Johansson, Anna, Nelldal Ahl, Anna January 2007 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the young caregivers thoughts of the elderly caretaker. A qualitative method was chosen when interviewing young caregivers in order to get an insight of how they perceive and speak of the elders. The main questions of the study are: How do the caregivers believe that the elders perceive their day-to-day life and situation? Is it possible to distinguish if the young caregiver’s thoughts about the elders affect their work with the elderly caretaker? Is it possible to notice any common factors that the young caregivers perceive as important in their work with the elderly caretaker? The criteria for inclusion in this study are caregivers aged 18 to 25, who are working with elderly at special accommodation. The theories chosen for this study are the salutogenetic perspective, the activity theory and the theory of gerotranscendence. From the outcome of the study the conclusion is that the interaction between the elder and the caregiver seem to be decisive for how the young caregiver think of the elders and their life situation. The caregivers in this study experience that activities give the elderly a meaningful life.

Lundh, Anna January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this study was to investigate whether or not nursing staff working in a care home notice and, if they do, how they interpret signs of gerotranscendence in the residents and how they approach the residents that exhibited those signs. The study was conducted with qualitative semi-structured interviews with nursing staff active in a Swedish care home.  The theoretical approach was hermeneutic and the study was conducted due to the author’s view that the current research on gerotranscendence is sparse. The conclusion of this study is that the nursing staff were able to notice some signs connected to gerotranscendence in the residents but not all. Notification and interpretation of the signs were varied and residents were approached differently by the nursing staff due to the nursing staff’s varying theoretical and working background.

Abstract: Considering demographic increasing number of very old people in Brazil, as well as the lack of qualitative studies with this age group, this work purposes to investigate clearheaded, capable of verbal communication nonagenarians' subjective reality. Through half-structured interviews, we investigated the perception that the oldest old have on their life stories, aging process, death and meaning of life, presence of well-being and the gerotranscendent process, considered a transition from a materialistic perspective into a more cosmic and transcendent view of life, accompanying the process of aging. The narratives of the 20 individuals were divided into 3 levels of Subjective Well-being. Data of this group revealed that, in very old age, heterogenous conditions of SWB can be found, and that greater SWB is related to psychological factors (such as viewing one's life as meaningful), affective factors (having significant persons to count on), and spiritual (being faithful and hopeful about finitude), as well as the health state and some social-demografic factors. Transcendent dimension was met in some individuals and positively associated to greater well-being, but didn't show association with the aging process. / Mestrado / Mestre em Gerontologia

Den upplevda ensamheten hos äldre : En studie om äldre hemtjänsttagare / The perceived loneliness in elderly : A study of elderly recipient of home care

Olesen, Frida, Lennartsson, Ingela January 2015 (has links)
The field of study is elderly home care recipient who live alone, where a study was made in how these recipients are influenced by the so-called perceived loneliness. The theoretical frameworks used in this study are social gerontology and gerotranscendence since the terminology used in the study occur in both theories, as well as we connect the theories to a social pedagogical perspective. The intention is to find a bridge between the mentioned theories. The aim of the study is to reveal and analyze loneliness as a social phenomenon for elderly recipient of home care in relation to social identity and various social ties. The first issue which the study tries to answer is how the elderly perceive to be home care recipient and a second issue is which social ties become visible and how does that affect the home care recipient´s feeling of loneliness. The final issue is how the home care recipient´s feeling of loneliness can be understood by social identity. The study has been done qualitatively with four semi-structured life-world interviews. The examined persons in the study were chosen by the criterion of that the persons should live alone and have daily home care. A second criterion was that they should be able to express themselves verbally. By the three terminologies of the study such as loneliness, social identity and social ties, an initial analysis is made of the empirical data. Furthermore, a second analysis is made with the gerotranscendence´s dimensions and its signification. The result shows that the elderly appreciate their visits by the home care staff and that it affects their perceived feeling of loneliness. The result also shows a relation between loneliness, social identity and social ties. The analysis of the empirical data by the gerotranscendence shows a positive perceived loneliness and not only negative loneliness.

Samordning av aktiviteter på äldreboenden och hur dessa motverkar ofrivillig ensamhet bland äldre brukare : En kvalitativ intervjustudie om enhetschefers upplevelser kring ofrivillig ensamhet bland brukare på äldreboenden / Coordination of activities in nursing homes and how these counteract involuntary loneliness among elderly users : A qualitative interview study on unit managers’ experiences of involuntary loneliness among users in nursing homes

Malmquist, Cajsa, Losiniecka, Roxana January 2022 (has links)
Background: The aim with this study is to explore how elderly care homes in Sweden plan activities in order to counteract the feeling of perceived involuntary loneliness for its elderly service users.  Method: The study is based on collected qualitative data that centers around eight semi-structured interviews with elderly care homes unit managers (SÄBO).  The result: The interviewees perceived involuntary loneliness differently depending on the elderly individual's perspective and the acceptance of their new life process. The range of activities are aimed to activate and socialize the elderly and implicitly counteract involuntary loneliness. The interviewees hint that it is often a matter of profound loneliness rooted in life’s final phase, identified as existential loneliness – a feeling of being separated from other people and the universe itself. Conclusion: The study indicates that there are multiple hues of loneliness such as feelings of existential loneliness, and the effects of the elderly’s changed life situation. The interviewees express a want for a counsellor for the elderly, with whom they can talk about life and death.  Keywords: elderly, elderly homes, involuntary loneliness, activities, gerotranscendence, ageism, person-centered care.

Franzén, Patrik January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of technical aids for people in Sweden aged 75 years or older and how it could affect healthy ageing using the help of occupational therapists. The study has a qualitative and inductive approach with theory and conceptual notions such as healthy ageing, quality of life and gerotranscendence. The data was collected through individual semi-structured interviews with six occupational therapists from different municipalities in the region of Skåne. The data was analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The results showed that occupational therapists perceive that technical aids can contribute to healthy ageing. Occupational therapists believe that it creates a greater degree of independence and a better quality of life by, for example, facilitating everyday activities and creating more freedom to manage themselves. The study shows that the target group of 75 years or older often uses technical aids of simpler types to primarily facilitate physical impairments. The conclusion is that technical aids can contribute to a healthy ageing and quality of life according to occupational therapists and as previous research shows. This means that it is possible for the elderly to experience the process of gerotranscendence where you are satisfied with your current situation as well as your past life. / <p>Betyg i Ladok, 2018-06-05.</p>
