Le lieu, l’histoire, le sang : l’hispanité des musulmans d’Espagne dans les littératures arabe, espagnole et française (15ème – 17ème siècles) / Place, History and Blood lines : the Hispanic identity of Spanish Muslims in Arabic, Spanish and French Literature (15th – 17th centuries)

Picherot, Émilie 05 November 2009 (has links)
The Hispanic identity of Spanish Muslims is at the center of a recurring debate on the collective identity of Spaniards. By treating the political presence of the Muslims as a simple historical parenthesis which lasted for eight centuries, the Romancero excludes Spanish Muslims not only from the peninsula but also from Hispanic identity itself and heralds the final expulsion of the Moriscos in 1609. A different attitude was developed during the hundred years following 1492, as witnessed by the Hispano-Arabic and Aljamiada, but also sometimes the Castilian literature. The French Spanish-Moorish novel, a century later, redefines the character of the Spanish Muslim, which then becomes the basis for a fantasized Hispanic identity characterised by its contact with the Arab-Muslim world via the Mediterranean. The Moor of Granada becomes a literary model that provides Europe with a positive image of the Arab-Muslim world. Idealized, tolerant and generous, the Moro is no longer simply a Spaniard, but a pretext for reflecting on religious diversity and the link between a people and a place.

As representações temporais na obra de Juan Rulfo / The temporal representation in the work of Juan Rulfo

Oliveira, Paulo Ferraz de Camargo 25 August 2011 (has links)
In the 1950\'s, two little works by an unknown author till then came to light. In 1953, was published the short story book Llano en llamas and, two years later, the novel Pedro Páramo. It would be enough this small literary production to acclaim that writer, which would become a reference for an entire generation of Latin-American writers. Juan Rulfo was going to be considered in the coming decade literary scene, even though with some reservations, as the great predecessor of the so-called boom generation. Raising questions about this alleged fatherhood and relying on the analysis of these fictional literary works, compared to other Mexican literary classics concerning Mexican Revolution, one intended to articulate the relation between History and fiction. The approach conferred by Rulfo to the specificities belonging to his historicity unveils, to the sharp reader, History itself, not directly alluded, but foreseen as much as by the aesthetic chosen by the author as by the narrative contents of his narrations.

This essay comprehends Octavio Paz´s conception of Mexican modernity in his works between 1970 and 1988. This theme – the modernity – is crucial in his books, as well an important subject to be studied. For the elaboration of this concept, he considered the multiples models of modernization, especially European and North-American, as well, the perspectives of development reserved to Latin America and the proposals of democratization, keeping place at the Mexican debate in relation to political hegemony of PRI – Institutional Revolutionary Party. Paz´s books like Posdata (1970), El ogro filantrópico: historia y política (1971-1978) (1979), Tiempo Nublado (1983), El laberinto de la Soledad y posdata (1984) e México en la obra de Octavio Paz: el peregrino en su patria (Historia y política del México) (1987), revels themselves a reflection about the possible ways to achieve modernity, each of them situate remotely from economic development as established by the Mexican leading circles. Through Octavio´s works we intend to comprehend his intellectual trajectory, as well capture his concept of modernity and then to elaborate a map with his ideas about the modernization in Latin America / Este trabajo se plantea a comprender la idea de modernidad en los ensayos de Octavio Paz, entre los años de 1970 y 1988.

MOROCCAN WOMEN AND IMMIGRATION IN SPANISH NARRATIVE AND FILM (1995-2008)

Martín, Sandra Stickle 01 January 2010 (has links)
Spanish migration narratives and films present a series of conflicting forces: the assumptions of entitlement of both Western and Oriental patriarchal authority, the claims to autonomy and self determination by guardians of women’s rights, the confrontations between advocates of exclusion and hospitality in the host society, and the endeavor of immigrant communities to maintain traditions while they integrate into Spanish society. Taking into consideration current theories of space, mobility, feminism, and assimilation, I center my analysis on four significant moments of migration: the inundation of Western media in other countries that inspires individuals to find alternatives to poverty and oppression; the trauma of the physical and emotional separation from the land of origin; the trials of adjustments to an unknown and, at times, hostile culture; and the construction of a new community within a host society. The works give testimony to how contact with different cultures, religions, and languages has given way to a unique space between Western images and multicultural realities where power, identities, and destinies are negotiated. Exploring the patterns of displacement and gender roles, I point out how some authors align themselves with the power structures that stifle immigrants’ initiatives, while others choose to challenge the status quo. This space creates an opportunity for change propelled principally by the courage, agency, and mobility of female characters that weaken patriarchal domination in Muslim society and counter powerful Western ideologies. The resulting new culture imbued with personal values rekindles Hispanic-Moroccan historical links and opens the door to a revived multicultural, multilingual, multiethnic Spanish identity. I argue that the determination of the female characters is the key to the changes taking place in the twenty-first century Spanish society, which, according to Spanish migration narratives and films, could anticipate the dissolution of the Fortress Europe and the consolidation of integration. Establishing a dialogue between opposing forces, my analysis invites readers and viewers of the narrated process of immigration to consider their own personal positions on such a pressing issue.

Ramos, Luan Cardoso. January 2019 (has links)
This work has as objective to analyze the novel Apariciones (1996), of the mexican writer Margo Glantz, with the purpose of understand, at first, the writing procedures used by the writer, highlighting the metafiction and the intertextuality. Therefore, we will have the teoric support of the poetics of pleasure from the text prepared by Roland Barthes (1973), as well as from the studies by Tiphaine Samoyault (2001) about the intertextuality, among other authors, trying to demonstrate how Margo Glantz elaborates a (re)writing from the dialogue and the integration of texts, allusions to paintings and musics. Likewise, we will analyze the theme of erotism presente in the novel, investigating how the sacred erotismo approaches the profane, through the analysis of the parody recreation of the spiritual exercises of two nuns and, on the other hand, how the profane erotismo that caracterizes the love meetings of a couple approaches the sacred erotismo. Therefore, our analysis will be substantiated according to the theorizations of Georges Bataille (1957) and Octavio Paz (1994) about the erotism, and of Linda Hutcheon (1988) about the postmodernism and the parody / Mestre

Hijo de Ladrón, de Manuel Rojas: uma forma do Bildungsroman / Hijo de Ladrón by Manuel Rojas: a form of the Bildungsroman

Santos, Gildnéia Ramos Blohem 13 September 2013 (has links)
This work begins with the introduction to the author, to his literary importance as well as to his historical context, and it has the purpose of analyzing Hevia Anicetos pathway, who is the autodiegetic narrator in the novel Hijo de Ladrón by Manuel Rojas. The novel revolves around the problems and the experiences lived by the socially marginalized classes, and also around the social and economic conflicts experienced by the proletariat in Chile from the end of the 19th Century to the beginning of the 20th Century. We will observe the Classic Bildungsroman, which is a discursive gender originated in Germany in the midst of the dissemination of bourgeois ideas from the end of the 18th Century. Our purpose here is to observe how Rojas book, which is inserted in a context kept away by time, space and socio-economic circumstances of the Bildungsroman paradigm, maintains content and viewpoint affinities in relation to the classical gender in question.
