FÃnons nos sistemas RVO4 e La1-xCexPO4 / Phonons in the RVO4 and La1-xCexPO4 systems

Clenilton Costa dos Santos 18 August 2006 (has links)
In this work we present a Raman investigation of RVO4 (where R = Sm, Ho, Yb and Lu) and La1-xCexPO4 (where x = 0,00, 0,04, 0,16, 0,22, 0,32 and 1,00) compounds. Polarized Raman scattering measurements were carried out in the RVO4 compounds to obtain a better description of the room temperature phonons than those previously reported in literature. We observe that the frequencies of most of phonons increase with increasing atomic number (Z) of R. This behavior results from the lattice contraction when R goes from La to Lu. On the other hand, due to their dimensions and shape, unpolarized Raman scattering was used to investigate the room temperature phonon spectra of La1-xCexPO4 compounds. No appreciable changes were observed, indicating that the LaPO4 lattice is not substantially modified by Ce doping. However, some extra or additional phonons were observed. The origin of these modes comes probably from the activation of infrared modes due to the breakdown of symmetry rules.

The universe of Samuel Beckett\'s late prose

Lívia Bueloni Gonçalves 02 October 2014 (has links)
This dissertation presents a reading of Samuel Beckett´s so-called second trilogy in prose comprising the works Company (1980), Ill Seen Ill Said (1981), and Worstward Ho (1983), with special focus on Company. These texts belong to the authors late prose, characterized by a mixture of genres and the intense questioning of both language and literary representation. While highlighting the specificities of this period, we argue that among all the experiments of the Beckettian narrator there is a mechanism that seeks for company within the very narrative a theme present in many of Becketts works, which is further stressed by the publication of Company. The need for company through the act of narrative, however, unfolds in an ambiguous and conflicted manner.

Analyse économique de la gestion des déchets ménagers au Vietnam : le cas des villes de Hanoi et d'Hochiminh / An economic analysis of household waste management in Vietnam : the case of Hanoï and Ho Chi Minh City

Nguyen, Thi Thuy Linh 07 November 2016 (has links)
This thesis provides an economic analysis of household waste management in Vietnam. Afterstudying the various stakeholders and their fields of competence at the national level, ittargets the urban areas of the country in particular in order to identify the nature of the wasteproduced and the regulation and financing conditions for its management. Furthermore, anassessment of household behavior vis-à-vis the improvement of household waste managementis proposed using a contingent evaluation. Starting from a survey carried out on 416households in the city of Hanoi and 444 households in Ho Chi Minh City, an estimation of thewillingness to pay (using the Heckman method) reveals that households are prepared to payabout 0.51 euros and 0.56 euros per month per household respectively to improve the qualityof service of household waste disposal. The results of this empirical study are also used topropose concrete recommendations aiming to ensure greater efficiency in household wastemanagement in Vietnam.

Visuella linjer i Parasite (2019) : En form- och semiotisk analys / Visual lines in Parasite (2019) : A form- and semiotic analysis

Davidsson, Sara January 2023 (has links)
This study examines the use of visual lines in the South Korean film Parasite (2019) and how they, together with the film’s mise-en-scène and composition, contribute to reinforce its social themes. A semiotic and form analasys is used, utilizing film theoretical concepts. The primary theory used is Pierre Bourdeu’s capital theory, as well as film studies concepts such as mise-en-scène and its subcategories, including setting, costume and makeup and lighting. Additionally, camera work and composition are emphasized. Four scenes featuring visual lines were selected and analyzed and semiotics signs in the scenes were interpreted both denotatively and connotatively. By connecting them to Pierre Bourdieu’s theories of cultural, social, and economic capital as well as habitus and fields, the results of the study demonstrate that the visual lines, along with the mise-en-scène and the visual composition of the scenes, contributes to reinforce social and economic divisions.

Additive higher representation theory

Klein, Florian January 2014 (has links)
This thesis is devoted to the study of higher representation theory as introduced in [Rou4]. As this theory is in its early days, it is essential to seek out modules that can rightfully be named building blocks and allow one to express as much of the structure of arbitrary modules as possible in their terms. We contribute towards this undertaking in the case of additive higher representation theory. Inspiration is drawn from Soergel bimodules which categorify the Hecke algebra. We introduce functorially cyclic modules as well as (strongly) universal cell modules. Examples include the minimal categorifications of [Rou4]. Properties of such modules are discussed and universal properties in terms of representable 2-functors are established. This leads to constructions and classifications in terms of split Frobenius objects, using a new variant of the Barr-Beck theorem for additive categories. Furthermore, we encounter a new class of modules so called coinvariant modules which arise from automorphism group actions. We also construct canonical cofiltrations and demonstrate why the Jordan-Hölder theory of [Rou4] does not readily generalise. Throughout, we comment on the succession [MaMi1]-[MaMi5] that tackles the same questions, however arrives at different conclusions. As applications, we first show that the 2-category of singular Soergel bimodules of [Wi2] arises naturally within the additive higher representation theory of Soergel bimodules. Second, we establish (weak) equivalences between certain associated universal cell modules together with a categorification of cell module homomorphisms of the Hecke algebra. Third, we show that singular Soergel bimodules constructed with a faithful representation categorify the Schur algebroid, generalising the main result of [Li]. Fourth given a group and a subgroup, we recover the additive monoidal category of representations of the subgroup from the corresponding category for the group without invoking Tannakian formalism.

Evaulation of business and management training for private businesses in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Phan, Anh T. January 2008 (has links)
The process of economic innovation in Vietnam since the late 1980s presented its human resources in the private sector with constant challenges in terms of continuous improvement for operating effectiveness and efficiency. The challenges have been met by substantial investment of resources in business and management training. Returns from this training, however, have not received due attention. The study sets out to examine the reality of acquiring and utilising business and management training in local private businesses in Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s economic centre. In doing so, the study is expected to provide a better understanding of the characteristics of business and management training in Vietnam, and how this human resources development activity assists private businesses in a transitional economy. Based on Kirkpatrick’s evaluation framework, findings of the study revealed not only different approaches to business and management training but also the limited effects of the training on the trainees and private companies. Knowledgemania, or training for the sake of pursuing knowledge, was still very prevalent among the group of ‘Oriental’ companies whilst a more practical approach towards training aimed at meeting explicit business objectives was adopted by companies exposed to Western management practices. The research revealed that among the factors facilitating or hindering learning transfer within the case study companies, the ability to manage the training process and cultural values were the most influential. The research study also introduced two refined frameworks for training evaluation, aimed at small family and larger private businesses respectively. These refined frameworks incorporate not only the spirit of simplicity and practicality of Kirkpatrick’s framework but also relevant contextual factors. These frameworks are, therefore, able to serve as evaluation tools to reveal both training outcomes and spot the opportunities to further improve management of training. The experience and process of developing the frameworks gained in this research may assist future researchers when undertaking training evaluation in other business contexts.

Behavioral factors influencing individual investors´ decision-making and performance. : A survey at the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange

Phuoc Luong, Le, Thi Thu Ha, Doan January 2011 (has links)
Although finance has been studied for thousands years, behavioral finance which considers the human behaviors in finance is a quite new area. Behavioral finance theories, which are based on the psychology, attempt to understand how emotions and cognitive errors influence individual investors’ behaviors (investors mentioned in this study are refered to individual investors). The main objective of this study is exploring the behavioral factors influencing individual investors’ decisions at the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange. Furthermore, the relations between these factors and investment performance are also examined. As there are limited studies about behavioral finance in Vietnam, this study is  expected to contribute significantly to the development of this field in Vietnam.  The study begins with the existing theories in behavioral  finance, based on which, hypotheses are proposed. Then, these hypotheses are tested  through the questionnaires distributed to individual investors at the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange. The collected data are analyzed by using SPSS and AMOS soft wares. Semi-structured interviews with some managers of the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange are conducted to have deeper understanding of these behaviors. The result shows that there are five behavioral factors affecting the investment decisions of individual investors at the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange: Herding, Market, Prospect, Overconfidence-gamble’s fallacy, and Anchoring-ability bias. Most of these factors have moderate impacts whereas Market factor has high influence.  This study also tries to find out the correlation between these behavioral factors and investment performance. Among the behavioral factors mentioned above, only three factors are found to influence the Investment Performance: Herding (including buying and selling; choice of trading stocks; volume of trading stocks; speed of herding), Prospect (including loss aversion, regret aversion, and mental accounting), and Heuristic (including overconfidence and gamble’s fallacy). The heuristic behaviors are found to have the highest positive impact on the investment performance while the herding behaviors are reported to influence positively the investment performance at the lower level. In contrast, the prospect behaviors give the negative impact on the investment performance.

The Tally Ho Shear Zone: implications for the tectonic evolution of the western margin of Stikinia, Southern Yukon Territory, Canada

Tizzard, Amy 06 March 2009 (has links)
The Tally Ho shear zone (THSZ) is a 40-kilometre long, northwest-striking assemblage of highly-deformed rocks outcropping along the western margin of Stikinia in southern Yukon. The location of the THSZ adjacent to the boundary between the oceanic Stikine Terrane and pericratonic Nisling Assemblage of the Yukon-Tanana Terrane provides an opportunity to examine the tectonic significance of a terrane-marginal high-strain structure. Detailed geological mapping along the THSZ and adjacent rocks indicates that the shear zone is a crustal-scale thrust fault that places deep-seated arc rocks of Stikinia up-section and to the east onto a package of upper crustal volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks of the Upper Triassic Lewes River Group. Timing of movement along the THSZ is constrained by U-Pb zircon age determinations of a deformed section of cumulate leucogabbro in the hangingwall of the shear zone (208 ± 4.3 Ma) and by a post-kinematic cross-cutting megacrystic granite intrusion (~173 Ma). Positive Nd values of Stikine magmatic rocks (+4.5 to +6.7) indicate magmas forming the oceanic terrane were formed with little to no input of continental crust until around the time of intrusion of a megacrystic granite unit in the mid-Jurassic (Nd -4.0). The THSZ is therefore interpreted to have formed in response to the thick-skinned collision and underpinning of the Nisling Assemblage beneath western Stikinia in the Early Jurassic resulting in the imbrication of the Stikine magmatic arc along the THSZ.
