Im Idealfall bilden die Kopenhagener Kriterien zusammen mit dem Art.-7-Verfahren EUV einen lückenlosen Schutzmechanismus der EU-Werte. Die Verfassungskrisen in Ungarn und Polen haben allerdings nicht nur die Schwächen des Art.-7-Verfahren aufgedeckt, sondern auch die Frage aufgeworfen, ob die gegenwärtige Anwendungsweise des Kopenhagener Mechanismus ausreichend ist.
Da das Beitrittsverfahren an sich Regierung-zentrisch ist, ist es offenkundig, dass dieses Verfahren nicht viel dazu beiträgt, die Bürger in den politischen Prozess ihres Landes einzubinden und die Zivilgesellschaft zu stärken. Es dauert eine gewisse Zeit, bis die konstitutionelle Grundwerte in die Herzen der Bürger eines neulich demokratisierten Landes gebracht werden. Die EU wurde allerdings dadurch unter Zeitdruck gesetzt, dass sie die Osterweiterung in einem relativ kurzen Zeitraum vollenden musste, um die Gunst der Stunde für ein vereintes Europa nutzen können.
Der aktuellen Zustand der EU entspricht dem echten Bund im Schmittschen Sinn. Die Substanz der Homogenität in einem echten Bund ist das Produkt des Zusammenspiels der Verfassungsordnung des Bundes und seiner Mitglieder. Daraus ergibt sich, dass mit jedem Beitritt eines neuen Mitgliedstaats die Verfassungsidentität der EU mit einer neuen Verfassungsidentität angereichert und wesentlich geändert wird. Wenn man die Eingriffskapazität der EU in die innerstaatlichen Verfassungsordnungen über die heutige Intensität hinaus noch verstärken will, darf man die politische Natur der Werte-Frage in einem echten Bund nicht außer Acht lassen.
Der Priorisierung der politischen Kriterien vor den wirtschaftlichen Kriterien, mit der die EU die Beitrittsverhandlungen durchgeführt hat, ist für Taiwans China-Politik ebenso wichtig. Eine entscheidende Aufgabe für Taiwan ist, klar zu machen, dass Taiwan politische Verhandlungen nur mit einem Ansprechpartner führen wird, der die gleichen politischen Werte einhält. / In the course of developing a general theory aiming at reversing and preventing the deterioration of political values in the European and East-Asian context, this study answered two sets of questions. First, on the empirical level, how reasonable and effective are the current pre-accession evaluations? Regarding the existing deterioration in the post-accession context, does it reflect any short coming in the way the EU implements the Copenhagen Criteria? Since Taiwan has not established such monitoring mechanism yet, what are the damages already done to Taiwan’s constitutional values?
Second, on the normative level, this study followed two very different approaches. On the one hand, it clarified where the limits of judicial solution to this problem are.
The fact that the sanction procedures prescribed in the current Art. 7 TEU take the form of collective actions revealed that what is at stake here is a shared value system.
On the other hand, this study took into account the interaction between law and politics. The accession of new member states, as well the sanction against member states which failed to respect the political values of the Union, are in essence political decisions of the European Union. Since Taiwan needs to set up political conditions for it negotiations with China, the task is highly political, too.
By identifying elements that caused or prevented the deterioration of political values, this study proposed suggestions for correcting and preventing deterioration by understanding its operation.
A protective mechanism for Taiwan’s political values can create a reverse “lock-in effect.” By enunciating stringent negotiation guidelines and a code of conduct for Taiwanese government that requires cautiousness and vigilance, this mechanism will place the cross-strait negotiations under a legal framework which ensures that any given Taiwanese government could not sacrifice Taiwan’s constitutional values in exchange for advancing its political agenda.

Missionaries' impact on the formation of modern art in Zimbabwe : a case study of Cyrene and Serima art worksZhou, Grace 11 1900 (has links)
Focusing on Cyrene and Serima art workshops under the tutelage of Paterson and Groeber, respectively, the study acknowledges the foundational importance of Christian art (from the late 1930s up to the 1960s) in the rise of prominent first generation artists in Zimbabwe such as Mukomberanwa, Ndandarika, Khumalo, Songo, Sambo and many others. It rejects perceptions of African modernism as inauthentic imitations of artistic innovations that originated with European art. While accepting that there was a deliberate fusion of traditional art into mission mainstream education to produce Christian art forms with a strong Africanised identity, the study reveals missionaries’ conservatism and restrictions on artistic freedom. It, therefore, locates the formation of modern art in Zimbabwe largely within a broader spectrum of Africans’ encounter with colonialism or western culture which induced artists to invent new artistic expressions reflecting their own emergent political and socio-economic circumstances. The novelty and outright rejection of missionary impact are, therefore, alien to the natural synthesis that informed artistic modernism in Zimbabwe. / Art History, Visual Arts and Musicology / M.A. (Art History)

Försvarsmakten har genomfört en HR-transformation enligt en modell som har fått stor spridning i såväl Sverige, som internationellt. Det finns likheter i hur andra organisationer har hanterat motsvarande förändringar, och det väcker frågor kring beslutsfattande i en organisatorisk kontext. Studien syftar till att få förståelse för beslutsprocessen inför Försvarsmaktens projekt HR-T, vilket gjorts genom att undersöka vilka faktorer som har påverkat processen och därmed det slutliga valet av alternativ. Studien är en kvalitativ dokument- och intervjustudie, där såväl interna som officiella projektdokument analyserats tillsammans med data från intervjuer av personer knutna till projektet. Våra slutsatser är att beslutsprocessen påverkats av faktorer och ett handlande enligt institutionell teori, en homogenisering orsakad av extern jämförelse samt nyttjandet av konsulter. / The Swedish Armed Forces have completed an HR transformation in accordance with a model that has spread worldwide as well as in Sweden. There are similarities regarding how organizations have handled these changes which also raise questions on organizational decision-making. The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of the decision-making process leading up to project HR transformation of the Swedish Armed Forces. This has been accomplished by researching factors that have affected the process and thereby the final choice of alternative. This study is a document- and interview-based qualitative study where data from both published and unpublished documents combined with data collected from interviews with respondents affiliated with the project, have been analyzed. Our conclusions are that the decision-making process has been affected by factors and actions in accordance with institutional theory, which is a conforming due to external comparison and the use of external consultants.

Développement d’aimant bas champ pour RMN Portable : Conception et construction / Development of portable low field NMR magnet : Design and constructionDang Phuc, Hung 29 January 2015 (has links)
Les travaux menés au cours de cette thèse porté sur le développement d’un aimant pour système de RMN portable. Une homogénéité élevée a été recherchée tout en maintenant le champ magnétique statique B0 aussi élevé que possible (100ppm, 0.12T). Les dimensions de l’aimant sont prédéfinies ainsi que celles de la zone d'intérêt fonction de la taille des aimants permanents utilisés. Ce type de système est dédié à la recherche biomédicale et agroalimentaire. Les travaux présentés ont consisté, à discuter dans un premier temps un certain nombre des paramètres des matériaux magnétiques essentiels à la construction d’aimants de RMN portables. Plus particulièrement le choix des aimants permanents, utilisant un matériau tels que le NdFeB a été justifié. Une combinaison entre portabilité, prix et sensibilité a abouti à la conception d’un prototype d’aimant portable pour appareil RMN à partir d’un système simple d’arrangement de 24 aimants permanents. Le champ magnétique et l'homogénéité de ce système ont été calculés et simulés à l’aide du logiciel Ansys puis les résultats obtenus ont été vérifiés avec le logiciel Radia. Une nouvelle méthode de shim pour augmenter l'homogénéité et corriger les imperfections du champ B0 a été aussi introduite. La position des aimants de shim a fait l’objet d’une optimisation avec le logiciel Radia. Sur la base de ces résultats, un prototype a été réalisé. Les résultats des mesures de champ magnétique et de l'homogénéité sont en bonne corrélation avec les résultats obtenus par simulation. Les erreurs de mesure ont été estimées et une précision suffisante a été atteinte compte tenu des tolérances portant à la fois sur les caractéristiques et sur la fabrication des aimants. Un autre aimant basé sur la configuration Mandhalas (Magnet Arrangement for Novel Discrete Halbach Layout) a fait l’objet d’une étude comparative, portant sur deux configurations utilisant des aimants de formes circulaires et de formes carrés, a été effectuée par simulation 2D (sur la base de trois critères : la masse, l'homogénéité et l'intensité du champ magnétique). Les Mandhalas fabriqués à partir d’aimants circulaires permettent d’avoir de meilleurs résultats (0.32T, 178ppm). D’autre part, la simulation 3D a été faite afin d’évaluer la totalité du système. A partir des résultats obtenus, un système de shim passif a été aussi utilisé dans ce cas et a permis l’augmentation de la zone d'homogénéité de manière significative. / This thesis focuses on the development of a magnet system for NMR applications with high homogeneity while maintaining the static magnetic field B0 as high as possible (100 ppm, 0.12T). Due to the application goals, the magnet dimensions are predefined as well as those of the region of interest according to the size of the used permanent magnets. Such system is dedicated to biomedical and agroalimentary applications. The goal of this research has been firstly, the discussion of parameters of magnetic materials which are essential to the construction of portable NMR magnets, and then the choice of the permanent magnet material the “NdFeB” that was explained. A compromise between the portability, price and the sensitivity has led to the design of a prototype of portable NMR magnet with a simple system of arrangement of 24 permanent magnets. The magnetic field and the homogeneity of the system were calculated and simulated by using ANSYS software and these results were correlated to those obtained by the Radia software. A new shim method has been used to increase the homogeneity and correct the field B0 imperfection. Based on these results, a prototype was realized. The results of the magnetic field strength and homogeneity obtained by measurements are in good correlation with the results obtained by simulation. Sufficient accuracy was reached to take into account and correct errors due to manufacturing tolerances of the magnets. Another magnet system based on Mandhalas configuration (Magnet Arrangement for Novel Discrete Halbach Layout) was studied. The comparison between two configurations made from circle and square magnets was performed by 2D simulation (using three criteria: mass, homogeneity and the magnetic field strength). The Mandhalas made from circle magnets give better results (0.32 T, 178 ppm). The 3D simulation was carried out to evaluate the total system. From these results, a passive shim system was also used in this case and the homogeneity significantly increases.

Multi-metallic aerogels have recently emerged as a novel and promising class of unsupported electrocatalyst materials due to their high catalytic activity and improved durability for various electrochemical reactions. Aerogels can be prepared by a spontaneous one-step gelation process, where the chemical co-reduction of metal precursors and the prompt formation of the nanochain-consisting hydrogels, as a preliminary stage for the preparation of aerogels take place. However, detailed knowledge about the homogeneity and chemical distribution of these three-dimensional Pd-Pt aerogels at the nano-scale as well as at the macro-scale is still unclear to date.
Therefore, we used a combination of spectroscopic and microscopic techniques to obtain a better insight into the structure and elemental distribution of the various Pd-rich Pd-Pt aerogels prepared by the spontaneous one-step gelation process. Synchrotron-based extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy and high-angle annular dark-field (HAADF) scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) in combination with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) were employed in this work to uncover the structural architecture and chemical composition of the various Pd-rich Pd-Pt aerogels over a broad length range. The Pd80Pt20, Pd60Pt40 and Pd50Pt50 aerogels showed heterogeneity in the chemical distribution of the Pt and Pd atoms inside the macroscopic nanochain-network. Features of monometallic clusters were not detected by EXAFS or STEM-EDX, indicating alloyed nanoparticles. However, the local chemical composition of the Pd-Pt alloys strongly varied along the nanochains and thus within a single aerogel. To determine the electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) of the Pd-Pt aerogels for applications in electrocatalysis, we used the electrochemical CO stripping method. Due to high porosity and extended network structure, the resulting values of the ECSA for the Pd-Pt aerogels were higher than that for a commercially available unsupported Pt black catalyst. We show that the Pd-Pt aerogels possess a high utilization of catalytically active centers for electrocatalytic applications based on the nanostructured bimetallic framework.
Knowledge about the homogeneity and chemical distribution of the bimetallic aerogels can help to further optimize their preparation by the spontaneous one-step gelation process and to tune their electrocatalytic reactivity.

Кретање екстремних температура ваздуха на подручју Војводине у периоду 1951-2000 / Kretanje ekstremnih temperatura vazduha na području Vojvodine u periodu 1951-2000 / Analysis of the extreme temperature characteristics in Vojvodina in the period 1951-2000Savić Stevan 01 June 2009 (has links)
<p>Тема докторске дисертације је анализа екстремених температура ваздуха на подручју Војводине (северни део Србије), која се простире на површини од 21.506 km2. У анализи су коришћене временске серије са десет метеоролошких станица за временски период од 1951. до 2000. године. Укупно је анализирано осам параметара екстремних температура, и то: средње максималне и минималне, апсолутне максималне и минималне и дани са екстремним температурама (ледени, мразни, летњи и тропски). Истовремено, у истраживање су укључене и временске серије распона средњих максимума и минимума, као и распон средњих апсолутних максимума и минимума. Током рада анализирани су годишњи, сезонски и месечни низови претходно наведених параметара екстрема. У циљу добијања неопходних резултата, коришћено је више метода, као што су: Александерсонов тест, проста линеарна регресија, t-тест, Мен-Кендалов тест, коефицијент корелације, кластер анализа, анализа ројева тачака, хистограм и вишеструка линеарна регресија. Резултати хомогености месечних и сезонских временских серија, који су добијени коришћењем Александерсоновог теста, представљају прве резултате за простор Војводине и показују да је 26% испитиваних низова нехомогено, од којих је 11% подешено, односно хомогенизовано. Анализе параметара екстремних температура ваздуха показују тенденције пораста у последњих педесет година XX века. Посматрајући годишње низове, јављају се позитивни трендови код свих параметара (осим за ледене и мразне дане, где су трендови опадајући), међутим, једино се за средње минималне температуре може потврдити да имају сигнификантан пораст током испитиваног периода. Истовремено, зимски и пролећни трендови имају највишу тенденцију пораста, док су са друге стране јесењи трендови генерално опадајући. Анализом распона максималних и минималних температура, увидело се да максималне температуре генерално имају нешто већи пораст од минималних, а карактеристике оваквих флуктуација делимично су објашњене корелационом анализом са другим климатским елементима, који могу имати утицај на екстреме. Резултати су показали да високу корелациону повезаност (углавном преко 0,7), односно утицај на екстремне температуре имају инсолација, облачност, падавине и релативна влажност ваздуха. Интересантно је напоменути, да у већини радова који анализирају распоне максималних и минималних температура у појединим регионима, на нивоу континента или глобалном нивоу, указују на негативне трендове распона екстрема, међутим на простору Војводине годишњи распони имају благи позитиван тренд. Коришћењем вишеструке линеарне регресије, уочено је да показатељи атмосферске циркулације, односно NAO и AO индекси, објашњавају прилично висок проценат варијанси средњих и апсолутних максималних и минималних температура, током зимског, пролећног и летњег периода. Истовремено, узрок рапиднијег тренда пораста екстрема током последње декаде XX века, указује како на промене у осцилацијама других климатских елемената, тако и на промене доминације, односно учесталости појаве одређених типова атмосферске циркулације. Резултати у докторској дисертацији показују да деведесете године представљају најтоплију декаду на простору Војводине у оквиру испитиваног периода, што је највероватније повезано и са високим позитивним вредностима NAO индекса током исте декаде, које имају утицај на пораст зимских и пролећних вредности екстремних температура.</p> / <p>Tema doktorske disertacije je analiza ekstremenih temperatura vazduha na području Vojvodine (severni deo Srbije), koja se prostire na površini od 21.506 km2. Istovremeno, u istraživanje su uključene i vremenske serije raspona srednjih maksimuma i minimuma, kao i raspon srednjih apsolutnih maksimuma i minimuma. Tokom rada analizirani su godišnji, sezonski i mesečni nizovi prethodno navedenih parametara ekstrema. U cilju dobijanja neophodnih rezultata, korišćeno je više metoda, kao što su: Aleksandersonov test, prosta linearna regresija, t-test, Men-Kendalov test, koeficijent korelacije, klaster analiza, analiza rojeva tačaka, histogram i višestruka linearna regresija. Rezultati homogenosti mesečnih i sezonskih vremenskih serija, koji su dobijeni korišćenjem Aleksandersonovog testa, predstavljaju prve rezultate za prostor Vojvodine i pokazuju da je 26% ispitivanih nizova nehomogeno, od kojih je 11% podešeno, odnosno homogenizovano. Analize parametara ekstremnih temperatura vazduha pokazuju tendencije porasta u poslednjih pedeset godina XX veka. Posmatrajući godišnje nizove, javljaju se pozitivni trendovi kod svih parametara (osim za ledene i mrazne dane, gde su trendovi opadajući), međutim, jedino se za srednje minimalne temperature može potvrditi da imaju signifikantan porast tokom ispitivanog perioda. Istovremeno, zimski i prolećni trendovi imaju najvišu tendenciju porasta, dok su sa druge strane jesenji trendovi generalno opadajući. Analizom raspona maksimalnih i minimalnih temperatura, uvidelo se da maksimalne temperature generalno imaju nešto veći porast od minimalnih, a karakteristike ovakvih fluktuacija delimično su objašnjene korelacionom analizom sa drugim klimatskim elementima, koji mogu imati uticaj na ekstreme. Rezultati su pokazali da visoku korelacionu povezanost (uglavnom preko 0,7), odnosno uticaj na ekstremne temperature imaju insolacija, oblačnost, padavine i relativna vlažnost vazduha. Interesantno je napomenuti, da u većini radova koji analiziraju raspone maksimalnih i minimalnih temperatura u pojedinim regionima, na nivou kontinenta ili globalnom nivou, ukazuju na negativne trendove raspona ekstrema, međutim na prostoru Vojvodine godišnji rasponi imaju blagi pozitivan trend. Korišćenjem višestruke linearne regresije, uočeno je da pokazatelji atmosferske cirkulacije, odnosno NAO i AO indeksi, objašnjavaju prilično visok procenat varijansi srednjih i apsolutnih maksimalnih i minimalnih temperatura, tokom zimskog, prolećnog i letnjeg perioda. Istovremeno, uzrok rapidnijeg trenda porasta ekstrema tokom poslednje dekade XX veka, ukazuje kako na promene u oscilacijama drugih klimatskih elemenata, tako i na promene dominacije, odnosno učestalosti pojave određenih tipova atmosferske cirkulacije. Rezultati u doktorskoj disertaciji pokazuju da devedesete godine predstavljaju najtopliju dekadu na prostoru Vojvodine u okviru ispitivanog perioda, što je najverovatnije povezano i sa visokim pozitivnim vrednostima NAO indeksa tokom iste dekade, koje imaju uticaj na porast zimskih i prolećnih vrednosti ekstremnih temperatura.</p> / <p>This doctoral thesis deals with extreme air temperatures in Vojvodina (northern part of Serbia), which covers the area of 21,506 km2. Data series at ten meteorological stations for the period 1951- 2000 were used in the analysis. The following eight parameters of extreme temperatures were analysed: mean maximum and minimum; absolute maximum and minimum; and extreme temperature days (freezing, frosty, summer and tropical). Concurrently, the temporal series of mean maximum and minimum range were included into the research, as well as the range of mean absolute maximum and minimum. Annual, seasonal and monthly ranges of the aforementioned extreme parameters were included in the analysis. Towards obtaining important results, several methods were employed, such as Alexandersson test, simple linear regression, T-test, Mann-Kendall test, cluster analysis, scatterplot, histogram and multiple linear regressions. The results of homogenous monthly and seasonal temporal series obtained by employing Alexandersson test, being the first of the kind for Vojvodina highlighted that there were 26% non-homogenous, out of which 11% adjusted, i.e. homogenised within the analysed series. The analyses of extreme air temperature parameters trends showed increase in the last fifty years of the 20th century. Observation of annual series indicated positive trends for all parameters (except for freezing and frosty days, when the trends decreased). However, only mean minimal temperatures confirmed significant increase in the analysed period. Concurrently, winter and spring trends showed the highest increase, whereas autumn trend showed general decrease. In the course of the analysis of maximum and minimum temperature ranges, it was perceived that maximum temperatures generally showed higher increase compared to minimum, whereas the fluctuation features were partially explained by correlation analysis with other climatic elements, which might have influenced extremes. The results approved that high correlation coefficient (mainly above 0.7), i.e. the impact on extremes was perceived with insolation, cloudiness, precipitation and relative air humidity. Interestingly enough, most of the papers researching the series of maximum and minimum temperatures in certain regions, either continental or global, indicate negative trends in ranges of extremes. On the other hand, in Vojvodina the annual ranges show a moderately positive trend. The multiple linear regression technique brought to the perception that atmospheric circulation indicators, i.e. NAO and AO indices, explained the distinctly high percentage of variances in mean and absolute maximum and minimum temperatures during winter, spring and summer period. Concurrently, the cause of rapid increase in extremes during the 1990s indicated both the changes in oscillations of other climatic elements and changes in domination, i.e. frequency of certain types of atmospheric circulation. The results obtained for the doctoral dissertation indicated that the 1990s were the warmest decade in Vojvodina for the analysed period. Most probably, it was associated with high positive values of NAO index for the period, which affected winter and spring values of extreme temperatures.</p>

To determine the electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) of the Pd-Pt aerogels for applications in electrocatalysis, we used the electrochemical CO stripping method. Due to high porosity and extended network structure, the resulting values of the ECSA for the Pd-Pt aerogels were higher than that for a commercially available unsupported Pt black catalyst. We show that the Pd-Pt aerogels possess a high utilization of catalytically active centers for electrocatalytic applications based on the nanostructured bimetallic framework.
Knowledge about the homogeneity and chemical distribution of the bimetallic aerogels can help to further optimize their preparation by the spontaneous one-step gelation process and to tune their electrocatalytic reactivity.

Modèles de Markov à variables latentes : matrice de transition non-homogène et reformulation hiérarchiqueLemyre, Gabriel 01 1900 (has links)
Ce mémoire s’intéresse aux modèles de Markov à variables latentes, une famille de modèles dans laquelle une chaîne de Markov latente régit le comportement d’un processus stochastique observable à travers duquel transparaît une version bruitée de la chaîne cachée. Pouvant être vus comme une généralisation naturelle des modèles de mélange, ces processus stochastiques bivariés ont entre autres démontré leur faculté à capter les dynamiques variables de maintes séries chronologiques et, plus spécifiquement en finance, à reproduire la plupart des faits stylisés des rendements financiers. Nous nous intéressons en particulier aux chaînes de Markov à temps discret et à espace d’états fini, avec l’objectif d’étudier l’apport de leurs reformulations hiérarchiques et de la relaxation de l’hypothèse d’homogénéité de la matrice de transition à la qualité de l’ajustement aux données et des prévisions, ainsi qu’à la reproduction des faits stylisés. Nous présentons à cet effet deux structures hiérarchiques, la première permettant une nouvelle interprétation des relations entre les états de la chaîne, et la seconde permettant de surcroît une plus grande parcimonie dans la paramétrisation de la matrice de transition. Nous nous intéressons de plus à trois extensions non-homogènes, dont deux dépendent de variables observables et une dépend d’une autre variable latente.
Nous analysons pour ces modèles la qualité de l’ajustement aux données et des prévisions sur la série des log-rendements du S&P 500 et du taux de change Canada-États-Unis (CADUSD). Nous illustrons de plus la capacité des modèles à reproduire les faits stylisés, et présentons une interprétation des paramètres estimés pour les modèles hiérarchiques et non-homogènes. Les résultats obtenus semblent en général confirmer l’apport potentiel de structures hiérarchiques et des modèles non-homogènes. Ces résultats semblent en particulier suggérer que l’incorporation de dynamiques non-homogènes aux modèles hiérarchiques permette de reproduire plus fidèlement les faits stylisés—même la lente décroissance de l’autocorrélation des rendements centrés en valeur absolue et au carré—et d’améliorer la qualité des prévisions obtenues, tout en conservant la possibilité d’interpréter les paramètres estimés. / This master’s thesis is centered on the Hidden Markov Models, a family of models in which an unobserved Markov chain dictactes the behaviour of an observable stochastic process through which a noisy version of the latent chain is observed. These bivariate stochastic processes that can be seen as a natural generalization of mixture models have shown their ability to capture the varying dynamics of many time series and, more specifically in finance, to reproduce the stylized facts of financial returns. In particular, we are interested in discrete-time Markov chains with finite state spaces, with the objective of studying the contribution of their hierarchical formulations and the relaxation of the homogeneity hypothesis for the transition matrix to the quality of the fit and predictions, as well as the capacity to reproduce the stylized facts. We therefore present two hierarchical structures, the first allowing for new interpretations of the relationships between states of the chain, and the second allowing for a more parsimonious parameterization of the transition matrix. We also present three non-homogeneous models, two of which have transition probabilities dependent on observed explanatory variables, and the third in which the probabilities depend on another latent variable.
We first analyze the goodness of fit and the predictive power of our models on the series of log returns of the S&P 500 and the exchange rate between canadian and american currencies (CADUSD). We also illustrate their capacity to reproduce the stylized facts, and present interpretations of the estimated parameters for the hierarchical and non-homogeneous models. In general, our results seem to confirm the contribution of hierarchical and non-homogeneous models to these measures of performance. In particular, these results seem to suggest that the incorporation of non-homogeneous dynamics to a hierarchical structure may allow for a more faithful reproduction of the stylized facts—even the slow decay of the autocorrelation functions of squared and absolute returns—and better predictive power, while still allowing for the interpretation of the estimated parameters.

<p>In this thesis local methods are made available as a tool to study the<br />unary parts of clones (or, equivalently, the weak Krasner algebras). Using the<br />language of model theory and Galois connections we develop a link between<br />homomorphism-homogeneous relational structures and local methods, via the<br />notion of endolocality. The theoretical results that are obtained are used to develop<br />a systematic theory for the classification of homomorphism-homogeneous<br />relational structures.</p> / <p>U ovoj tezi su razvijene lokalne metode koje se mogu koristiti za izu-<br />ˇcavanje unarnih delova klonova (ili, ekvivalentno, slabih Krasnerovih algebri).<br />Koriˇs´cenjem jezika teorije modela i Galoovih veza uspostavljen je odnos izmedu<br />homomorfizam-homogenih relacionih struktura i lokalnih metoda, preko pojma<br />endolokalnosti.
