Seven experiments were conducted to determine the relations methionine and cystine (M+C): digestible lysine (Lys) in feed quails (Coturnix coturnix). For the growth periods (one to seven, eight to 14 and 15 to 21 days old) quails were created in mixed batches, and fed a basal diet containing 0.76 g methionine + cystine, supplemented with five levels of DL-Methionine, corresponding to the relations M+C: digestible Lys 0.61, 0.66, 0.71, 0.76 and 0.81. For final periods (22 to 28 and 29 to 35 days old), quails were created in sexed lots, and received basal diet containing 0.63 g methionine + cystine, supplemented with five levels of DL-Methionine, the corresponding to the relations M+C: digestible Lys 0.68, 0.73, 0.78, 0.83 and 0.88. The experimental design was completely randomized with five treatments and eight replicates. In periods of one to seven and eight to 14 days of old was observed effect of the relations M+C: digestible Lys for all performance traits, except for viability of quails. During the period of 15 to 21 days, the growth relations M+C: digestible Lys influenced all traits, except the uniformity and viability of quail. There was no effect of the relations M+C: digestibles Lys in the period 22 to 28 days for male quails, however, for females observed effect on feed intake and weight gain. In the period 29 to 35 days for males, there was effect for feed intake, methionine and cystine intake, weight gain, carcass ether extract, thigh + drumstick yield, carcass crude protein and nitrogen balance. However, for female quails 29 to 35 days of old, there was no effect on any of the traits studied in the face of relations M+C: digestible Lys. The relations M+C: digestibles Lys which optimized the weight gain were 0.81, 0.75 and 0.77 for periods of one to seven, eight to 14 and 15 to 21 days of old, respectively, for quail both sexes. During periods 22 to 28 and 29 to 35 day old females quails are recommended relations of 0.79 and 0.68, respectively, and for males quails are recommended relations of 0.68 and 0 88 M+C: digestible Lys.

[en] IDEAL AND NON-IDEAL THEORIES OF ADJUDICATION / [pt] TEORIAS IDEAIS E TEORIAS NÃO-IDEAIS DA ADJUDICAÇÃOLUCAS FILARDI GRECCO 04 January 2018 (has links)
[en] Ideal theories and non-ideal theories of adjudication are a methodological distinction within normative theories of adjudication. The latter consider that the methodology of normative theories must be adequate to what we might expect from ordinary human beings. Legal formalist scholars such as Larry Alexander,
Cass Sunstein e Adrian Vermeule are associated with this methodology. The latter, in turn, believe that this is not a normatively relevant constraint. We can defend theories whose normative standards violate what we might expect from ordinary human beings. Dworkin s particularism is the chief exponent of this method. The central question is whether there is a genuine conflict between these two methods. To answer this question, I divide ideal theories into two strands: non-orienting ideal theory and orienting ideal theory. I argue that there is a methodological conflict only between non-ideals and the latter. Finally, I suggest that reflection on these issues is important to developing new normative projects, namely, ideal formalism and that such enterprise is intellectually valuable.

A teoria da justiça como equidade e as ações afirmativas / The theory of justice as fairness and affirmative actionsCarbone, Diego Cassiano Lorenzoni 06 March 2017 (has links)
John Rawls conceives society as a cooperation system. To govern this system, he developed
the theory of justice as fairness (JAF). His theory, from its emergence in the early 1970s to the
present, has been commonly associated with public policies called affirmative action (AFs).
Despite this association, there are two relevant situations that deserve analysis and lead us to
our research problem: Rawls never wrote directly about affirmative action, despite the large
extent of his work; and there are arguments supporting the incompatibility between the JAF
and the AFs. In view of that, this paper deals with the following problem: is there
incompatibility between the theory of justice as fairness and affirmative action? Our
hypotheses are: (i) that affirmative action is not provided for in the JAF and, in general,
cannot be simply derived from that theory; and (ii) that, despite this, there is no
incompatibility between the JAF and the AFs. The broader objective of this paper, besides the
specific objective of responding to the research problem, will be to demonstrate that there is
no room for simplistic associations between the JAF and the AFs, as there are relevant
arguments that must be faced by those who wish to study the subject - either to defend the
AFs or not - especially those arguments concerning Rawls's distinction between ideal theory
and non-ideal theory. In the first chapter, basic concepts will be presented for the general
understanding of the theory of justice as fairness. In the second chapter, after exposing the
concept and taxonomy of affirmative action, some of Rawls's arguments that found JAF's two
principles of justice will be analyzed in order to verify if such arguments present any
incompatibility with affirmative action. Next, an analysis of the validity of some objections
made by Robert Taylor in the paper Rawlsian Affirmative Action will be done, where Taylor
argues that certain categories of affirmative action are incompatible with the JAF in the
scenarios of ideal theory and non-ideal theory. Ultimately, conclusions will be drawn, in the
sense that: (i) affirmative action is not foreseen in the JAF and cannot be simply derived from
it; (ii) that the arguments of possible incompatibility analyzed here are invalid; and (iii) that,
apart from the existence of other arguments not studied here, such public policies are not
incompatible with the theory of justice as fairness.
Diante disso, o presente
No primeiro capítulo, serão apresentados conceitos
No segundo capítulo,

Frege on Ideal Language, Multiple Analyses, and IdentityHashemi Shahroudi, Olya January 2016 (has links)
Abstract
My thesis is partly historical and partly critical. First, I will lay down a brief overview of Frege’s semantics and ontology based on his major works such as Begriffsschrift, “On Sense and Reference”, “On Concept and Object”, “Thought” and so on. The goal of this part of my research is to get a clear picture of Frege’s system and see what features of it are arbitrary and in those cases what other options exist. Next, I will use the secondary literature to find out how other scholars have interpreted Frege. I intend to use some modern logical tools such as lambda calculus in order to analyze Frege’s views more perspicuously. Then I will draw my conclusions about his ontology and semantics.
Frege seems to have believed that we approach the world via thought, but have no access to thought except via language. Hence, his enquiry into the nature of the world was conducted via enquiries into the nature of language. However, he knew that natural language sometimes muddles thought, so he tried to create an artificial formula language that would be able to capture the logical structure of the world itself as it is reflected in thought, better than any natural language. I will discuss the importance and the role of an ideal language in science, and will try to determine from Frege's scattered remarks what characteristics he thinks such a language must have. I will then consider Frege's own formalized language, as first presented in the 1879 Begriffsschrift and as further developed in his later writings. I will then discuss Frege’s semantics, focussing mainly on his theory of multiple analyses and his notion of thought and conceptual content. Finally, I will provide a detailed study of Frege’s theories of identity, in Begriffsschrift and “On Sense and Reference”, that were critical in the development of his semantics and ontology.

Flit och ärlighet : Att praktisera nykterhetsrörelsens ideal i vardagenLindberg, Karl January 2020 (has links)
Ideals express how we want to behave towards our fellow humans and play an important part in shaping our lives and societies. Popular movements, like the temperance movement, helped create the modern Swedish society, by instilling certain ideals in their members. This thesis is an investigation of the ideals adhered to by Olga Gentz and Thorild Dahlgren, a Swedish couple that were active in the temperance movement at the beginning of the 20:th century. An analysis of the letters Olga and Thorild exchanged shows that they strived to be natural, modest, considerate, honest, prudent, diligent and dutyful. Many of the ideals that Olga and Thorild practiced in their everyday life have been identified by prior research as characteric of the temperance movement. One exception is that Olga and Thorild stress the imporance of honesty.

Investigation Into the Mitigation of the Effects of Uncertain Optical Degradation on an Interplanetary Solar Sail Mission Using a Single Model UpdateSmiroldo, Jordan 01 December 2013 (has links) (PDF)
The renewed academic interest in using solar sails as a source of spacecraft propulsion has been accompanied by a recent fervor of investigations into non-ideal and off-nominal sail performance considerations. One of the most influential considerations, uncertain optical degradation, has been shown to present significant trajectory design difficulties. This paper investigates the potential of using a mid-course degradation model update to mitigate the risk of missing the target destination in a sample 300 day Earth-Venus trajectory. Using a range of potential degradation profiles, it is shown that correcting in the first half of the mission is highly likely to result in a trajectory that arrives sufficiently close to Venus at the end of the mission timeframe. Depending on the exact extent of the uncertainty, the data suggests that the latest a correction should take place ranges from 150 to 240 days into the mission. The influence of two different parameters, the extent and rate of degradation, are compared to show that the former of the two is more impactful on correcting timing than the latter.
