It is a master's research that is inserted in the Education, The aim of this study is to investigate the reality of young Kalunga from Cavalcante - GO, especially from the Engenho II and Vão do Moleque communities, their formative trajectories built by the traditions, the significant cultural elements And their life histories related to school education. It seeks to understand how these elements contribute to these agents building their identities of young people and Kalunga. The question that guides this study is: what are the meanings attributed by a group of young people belonging to two Kalunga communities in the municipality of Cavalcante-GO in relation to the memories and traditions bequeathed to them by sociability institutions, to the processes of integration or exclusion of the Particular aspects of their cultures to national and global culture? In order to develop this study, we have recourse mainly to the following authors: Halbwachs (2006), Fernandes (2008), Freyre (2006), Baiocchi (2013), Hall (2004, 2013, 2014 and 2016) and Marinho (2008). It is a qualitative research that uses dialectical analysis to understand that the actions, constructions and attributions of meanings carried out by young people are not isolated from the multiple processes of interaction that mark the experience and internalized learning And expressions by these young people. It was found that the meanings attributed by the young people of these communities to the elements that constitute the kalunga and quilombola are favorable and of great importance, since they are recognized as such, in relation to the memories and the traditions that the institutions of sociability transmit, To integrate their cultures with the particular aspects of national and global cultures, but it is still necessary to take advantage of young people's vision of future perspectives that involves formation outside the community, but with a strong desire to return to continue living in the community.

The main goals were: understanding the clothes and school uniform as a way of communication among young people, identify the students conceptions about the role of school uniform CTUR, as well as the uniform changes made by students. From a qualitative-quantitative approach, we use many sources for the research: Brazilian legislation, official CTUR documents, semi-structured interviews with employees and students, non-participant observation and photographic records. Through photographs and the interviews, and based on official documents regarding the school uniform of the institution, we present and discuss the terms used by the interviewees. Students proved to be aware of the primary functions of the school uniform, and also pointed out advantages and disadvantages in their use - quite current discussion on social networks and websites specialized in education. They attributed to uniform safety functions, identification, discipline, and no differentiation of social classes. As positive points of the uniform use indicated economy and practicality; and as negatives little emphasis on individuality and the possibility of stereotyping students. They presented themselves proud to be able to wear the uniform of a Federal College, but still showed some youth predicates - that lead to a transgressive behavior, needing bypass rules to build (and state) their own identities - appropriating and transforming uniform, is customizing it, either by changing it to provide comfort, is writing it with accessories. Thus, the use of practices such as changes sleeve cuts and shirt collar on the grounds of comfort were the most significant. Along with them, the identity marks were closely linked to fashion, such as: use of slipper and sandal - despite the express prohibition; shorter shorts and colors and materials not allowed; trousers of colors, patterns and materials also varied, confronted with what is permitted by the College; various accessories such as caps, earrings, necklaces, jackets and other items - leather bracelet, banners and turbans, piercing, nails and painted mouths - characteristic of specific groups - rock, hippie, rasta, movement of black consciousness and homoaffective. We note that, although there are rules to control by the School, that is not performed in a very tough way, leaving room for students to present themselves as young people in shaping their identities, enabling us to conclude that the school uniform - and the elements he engaged - are specific means of communication between young students CTUR. But that in this communication also becomes important for students to be identified as such, with a membership status desired by them.

Identidades políticas e políticas identitárias na Gália Merovíngia e Hispânia Visigoda / Political identities and identities politics in Merovingian Gaul and Visigothic Hispania

Silveira, Verônica da Costa 28 May 2015 (has links)
The research is a comparative study about the construction of identities as political strategies in the context of political polarization of Merovingian Gaul and Visigothic Hispania. Working with the analysis of diverse narrative genres as Historiae, Laws and Hagiographies the inquiry aims to indicate the deliberate plurality of the identity discourses in the Gens Francorum and the Gens Gothorum due to the complexity and diversity of political issues.

A multidão diante do herói na Ilíada / The crowd before the heroes in the Iliad

Oliveira, Gustavo Junqueira Duarte 16 April 2010 (has links)
In the Iliad, the crowd plays a fundamental role in the construction of the poem. It helps to set the story in an epic war stage, besides being necessary to define the poems key figures: the heroes. A discussion of the function of the crowd, mass, mob or collectivity was presented, regarding a poem in which the main focus lays in another element. It was necessary, at first, to establish the aspects that characterize the crowd, and to present the manner in which the crowd ensures that the hero is portrayed in an epic fashion. First, a discussion regarding the sources was proposed. The matter of orality in the Homeric poems and its implication to the study of History, with special emphasis to tradition was discussed. The validity of the use of such poems to the study of History was questioned. The proposed solution is to consider the texts as vehicles of a tradition that has historical validity for transmitting ideal values. From this notion the characteristics of the collectivity, mass or crowd was studied, starting from the idea of quantity as the most basic and necessary element for the very existence of such phenomena. The next important notion is the anonymity, which reigns among the men in the crowd. To be a part of a mob or a crowd, the participants cannot be named in the moments of reunion. Otherwise they do not work as a collectivity, but as individuals. The crowd is understood as a unity of body, action, opinion and humor. Finally, regardless of the main focus of the poem, the hero can be defined as opposed to the crowd. The hero is the character that is separated from the collectivity, being named and noticed for having individual action. Besides, the great deeds that ensure the heroes prestige must be performed in public, therefore needing an observing crowd which acts as audience and judge. The conclusion is that the crowd sets the stage, defines the hero and acts as fiscal, being an essential element to the understanding of the Iliad.

Apart we pray? The struggle of South Africa's Reformed churches to unite a divided nation

Hesselmans, Marthe 11 August 2016 (has links)
This dissertation analyzes the prolonged transition of South Africa’s Reformed churches from bastions of apartheid towards protagonists of racial reconciliation. At the center is the unification process of the Dutch Reformed Church (DRC) and the Uniting Reformed Church of Southern Africa. The two institutions are rooted in the same tradition, with broadly similar doctrines, yet they worship separately in the old racial categories of apartheid. This is not for lack of effort. After 1994, the DRC shifted from proclaiming divine divisions between races, nations and ethnicities to urging inclusivity in the name of Jesus Christ. The limited success so far to integrate the long divided churches reveals an intricate story of religious actors trying to reframe identities and adjust normative frameworks. The story mirrors South Africa’s greater struggle to transcend its past. Part I of this dissertation considers the nationalist civil religion with which the churches bolstered segregation, and its legacy in contemporary South Africa. By drawing comparisons with other religious-nationalist movements, the study shows the impact of religion in sustaining ethnic conflicts with its everyday structures of separation. Through a qualitative study of South Africa’s Reformed churches, Part II investigates what happens with such structures after a conflict dissipates. To what extent have the churches been able to untangle their attachments to particular ethnic and racial identities? An assessment of their unity discourse and its implementation among five communities in the Free State and Western Cape displays a complex role of religious ideas and practices in deepening and mitigating social divisions. At stake here are recently adopted beliefs in inclusivity along with the pressure to adapt to a rapidly pluralizing religious landscape in which the churches’ authority is no longer a given. They have to cooperate across the color line if they wish to retain relevance in society. This study thus highlights dynamics of principles and pragmatism, and of reconciliation and justice. Where historically white congregations are gradually coming to terms with the need to partner with their black neighbors, the latter now prioritize economic equality over reconciliation. This has not made the churches’ search for unity any easier. / 2017-08-11T00:00:00Z

Identités subies, identités intégrées : les Grecs dans les sociétés européennes du nord-ouest (Angleterre, Etats bourguignons, France et leurs marges) : début XVè - fin XVIè siècles / Suffered Identities, Embedded Identities : the Greeks in North-western European Societies (England, Burgundian States, France) : early fifteenth - End sixteenth centuries

Couderc, Mathieu 30 June 2018 (has links)
The aim of this work is about studying mechanisms of identities' creation. Indeed, The Greeks are people who were leaded to leave Greece because of political (the rise of the Turks), economics (some are merchant) or religious reasons (some became Catholics since the council of Florence in 1439). For these reasons, the Greeks came first to Italy. Few of them decided to follow their path to Northern Europe, towards England, Burgundian States and France. Of course, they were only a handful of them, but we tried to understand who were they and what was their purpose. First we determined what were their number their qualities, their activities and their intentions. Secondly, we tried to evaluate the Greeks as strangers or as members diasporic groups like the historiography traditionally qualify the m. We brought to light that the Greeks couldn't be understood as rigid societies which were never changing: sometimes they were received as strangers and excluded from western societies sometimes not. A Greek could change during his life : he could be a poor and foreigner migrant during a certain period an then become a rich merchant integrated to a western society few years later. The third part of our work was to understand t meaning of the word 'Greek' which is often applied in documents: did the word 'Greek' get the same meaning in England in France, during the early fifteenth century or the end of the sixteenth century? Of course, not. We explained the documentation built a stereotypical speech about the Greeks, about what they were supposed to be, to eat, to wear, to spear or to pray . This is the Greek Identities' Laboratory.

The present work aims to investigate, in the light of a theoretical spectrum coming from the areas of Applied Linguistics and Social Sciences, the relations between the representations of the English language, the identities, the imagined communities and the investment given by learners from a group of the basic English course of PRONATEC to the acquisition of the English language. The methodology used to answer the research questions was the narrative research, which guarantees, given its emic perspective, that the participants have a voice to express in their narratives their own experiences and opinions. Episodic interviews with three participants, as well as class observation in different stages of the course, accompanied by field notes, were used as instruments to generate data. The main representations of the English language observed in the participants’ narratives were the ones that see it as the language of the job market and the tourism, and that bring along with them the utilitarian bias of the language, representing it as a key to open doors that lead to a range of information and culture, and professional opportunities. It was also noticed that the learners’ identities are multiple and in continuous conflict, and that they determine when and how each one of them can express themselves. The learners’ imagined communities are mainly groups of tourism professionals who have job opportunities due to their English skills, international travelers, and even mothers who dedicate their time to their children’s educational progress. We concluded that the learners’ representations, identities and imagined communities are built through the dialog of the discourses present in the different contexts in which they take part, and that they are always permeated by relations of power, which may encourage or inhibit their investment in learning a new language.

Bnei anussim: uma experiência de judaísmo na periferia paulistana / Bnei anussim: a expereience of judaism in the outskirts of São Paulo

Gutierrez, Carlos Andrade Rivas 16 September 2011 (has links)
The aim of this study is the analysis of a new agents entry at the judaic field and his relations inside this field and with the city. An ex-priest from Assemblies of God and others starts to identify himself as bnei anussim, in other words, descendents of jews who were forced to convert to christianity during the Inquisition. They try to be recognized by jewish authorities, but the attempt fails. After that, they created their own synagogue Beith Israel, at Sao Mateus neighborhood, a poor suburb area in Sao Paulo. There, they practice Orthodox Judaism, according to their own way of perception. The empiric universe consists in the anussims synagogue, jewish religious authorities, religious specialists of the religious field of Sao Mateus and habitants of the neighborhood. The methodology consisted in the analysis of the interaction between the agents and their discursive productions. Besides, the ethnographic research was used to gather qualitative data. The dynamic among the jewish practices and the neighborhoods logic is essential to comprehend the religious phenomenon, because these two factors are understood in terms of a dialectical relationship.

Ferrovia e memória: estudo sobre o trabalho e a categoria dos antigos ferroviários da Vila Industrial de Campinas / Railway and Memory: study about work and category of workers from Vila Industrial, Campinas - São Paulo

Zambello, Marco Henrique 25 November 2005 (has links)
The theme of the dissertation is the memory associated to the work relationships, to the life manners and the trajectory of the old railmen\'s category of the Industrial Villa of Campinas, recovered by means of interviews, sources writings and iconography of public files, of unions and of railmen´s association. Appalachia Revisited: New Perspectives on Place, Tradition, and Progress

Schumann, William, Fletcher, Rebecca Adkins 25 October 2017 (has links)
Known for its dramatic beauty and valuable natural resources, Appalachia has undergone significant technological, economic, political, and environmental changes in recent decades. Home to distinctive traditions and a rich cultural heritage, the area is also plagued by poverty, insufficient healthcare and education, drug addiction, and ecological devastation. This complex and controversial region has been examined by generations of scholars, activists, and civil servants―all offering an array of perspectives on Appalachia and its people. In this innovative volume, editors William Schumann and Rebecca Adkins Fletcher assemble both scholars and nonprofit practitioners to examine how Appalachia is perceived both within and beyond its borders. Together, they investigate the region's transformation and analyze how it is currently approached as a topic of academic inquiry. Arguing that interdisciplinary and comparative place-based studies increasingly matter, the contributors investigate numerous topics, including race and gender, environmental transformation, university-community collaborations, cyber identities, fracking, contemporary activist strategies, and analyze Appalachia in the context of local-to-global change. A pathbreaking study analyzing continuity and change in the region through a global framework, Appalachia Revisited is essential reading for scholars and students as well as for policymakers, community and charitable organizers, and those involved in community development. / https://dc.etsu.edu/etsu_books/1152/thumbnail.jpg
