Previous issue date: 2017-02-24 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) / This Master's Dissertation is structured around the following question: What the scientific articles published in the SciELO electronic library from 2001 to 2015 reveal when they address the hidden curriculum concept? As a general objective, the study intends to analyze the selected articles in order to verify if they attribute to the hidden curriculum a negative function, or if they also indicate the possibility that it serves the human emancipation. The adopted theoretical framework understands that there are implicit actions, positive or negative, in the relations between curriculum and power that aim to maintain order, contributing to the world vision of the ruling class to prevail. Such actions concern the hidden curriculum and contribute to the hegemony of the ruling class. This curriculum is composed of aspects that exist in school that collaborate tacitly to relevant social learning. Therefore, there is an intrinsic relationship between education and broader aspects of society. However, the hidden curriculum can also act in the sense of human emancipation. It is argued that, in addition to the reproduction of dominant interests, there are conflicts, contradictions and resistance in schools. It is necessary, therefore, to go beyond the reproductive role of the hidden curriculum so that the dialectical movement of reality is evidenced, contributing to social equality. In this sense, the research, of a bibliographic nature, has as corpus of analysis 22 articles published in 19 journals indexed in the SciELO database. Regarding the researched data, it is noteworthy that most of the publications focus on the area of Health. It is verified that most of them refers to Higher Education. Therefore, it is noticed that there is a shortage of articles related to Basic Education and, above all, to the area of Education. In addition, there are no publications of papers in journals specialized in curriculum. The most emphasized aspects in most texts about the approach to the hidden curriculum concept are: i) emphasis on its negative function; ii) its influence on the students' training process; iii) concern of researchers from the area of Health with the teaching of ethics and with the role of the professor; iv) association of the hidden curriculum concept with the disagreement between what is said and what is done; v) relationship between curriculum and economic aspects. The results and characteristics of the studies suggest the existence of a lack of definition of the concept of hidden curriculum, because there is a great dispersion in what is considered this curriculum in the analyzed articles. Most of the works are based on the complaint of the hidden curriculum. However, there are references to the possibility of using this concept for social transformation. It becomes substantial to redefine and resituate the concept of hidden curriculum. It is necessary to go beyond its negative function, using its positive potential for human emancipation, considering it in the dialectical perspective. It is argued, therefore, that the hidden curriculum means a possibility of emancipatory action in the school environment. There is a challenge for everyone involved in education. Consequently, there is much to build towards a fair, democratic and egalitarian education.

This work has the aim of studying, from the standpoint of the discourse analysis and the cognitive linguistics, a gender of letters, more speciffically letters from readers sent to a scientific divulgation magazine called Superinteressante. We have verified, in our analysis, that some of them presented subjective character, expressing sympathy for the subjects of the magazine, which includes also a sort of confessional feature. Some of them presented distinct discursive ideological structures connected to the common wisdom or to ancient cultural heritages. There were others distinguished by being authority letters, that is wrote by people who have knowledge about the treated subjects, who wanted to criticize in a positive or negative way the manner how the magazine dealt with the subject in focus.

Representações sociais e ideologia : o usuário de drogas segundo Correio do Povo e Zero HoraHartmann, Mariane Rigatti January 2013 (has links)
This research investigates how the print media, in Rio Grande do Sul, portrays drug users, trying to understand who this user is for the media and why it is shown in specific ways. Discusses the media and drug use based on the Theory of Social Representations (Moscovici, 1961). Seeks to identify and analyze what kind of social representations are produced by the media about the user and ideological issues that are crossed by this journalistic production, considering that the subject of drugs, such as crack use, for example, has gained prominence in the newspapers, television and internet. The methodology involved a content analysis, as presented by Bauer and Gaskell (2010), of the reports of two major newspapers in Rio Grande do Sul: Correio do Povo and Zero Hora. For the interpretation of the data the methodological framework of Depth Hermeneutics (Thompson, 2009) is used, which considers the socio-historical context which situates the phenomenon, and can also perform analysis of discourse and ideological aspects present in the social media phenomenon. The findings demonstrate the emphasis given by the media to damaging consequences not only to the user but to society as a whole, emphasizing the danger, the unproductive, insanity, irreversibility, individualism and heterogeneity as social representations linked to the user. Strategies such as the ideological legitimation, fragmentation, reification and dissimulation can be identified. The need for expanded studies of this reality that involves mental health is evident, beyond the need to pay attention to the media production.

Towards an understanding of the management contribution in post-92 universitiesMcintosh, Iain L. January 2016 (has links)
Over recent years there has been considerable debate about the purpose, value and expectations of higher education. The relationship between government and the higher education sector has become focussed on the efficiency and effectiveness of the sector and on the experience of students as customers. These notions are contested, and sit within a broader context that includes consumerism, marketization, globalisation, and public sectorreform more generally. In higher education, this debate has been polarised and sometimes characterised within institutions as “collegiate” versus “managerial”. These tensions are explored not simply as competing perspectives but as ciphers for competing ideologies. The study considered how academic managers have negotiated this terrain, and the contribution of management to the health of an institution. Qualitative interviews were carried out with senior academic managers in 12 post-92 UK universities, which were regarded as particularly susceptible to economic pressures affecting the public sector following the financial crash of 2008. Conceptual and practical issues relating to the use of interviews were addressed, and the limitations of the study explored. A number of broad themes were identified: management orientation, about how the organisation is run; institutional orientation, about institutionalpurpose and journey, past and future; orientation towards academic staff and students; and, student related performance measures. The inter-relations between themes, and the patterns in participant responses were examined. Management actions can affect institutional performance for good or ill, and the bounded nature of the relationship between academics and managers is acknowledged. In this context, advice is offered that may be of benefit to university academic managers balancing competing expectations in complex and challenging financial times.

A Ritual in Perspective: An Ethnographic Analysis of a Lakota Sundance At Hoosier National ForestHardy, Gabor 01 May 2012 (has links)
AN ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION OF Gabor Hardy, for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Speech Communication, presented on 8 March, 2012, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale TITLE: A RITUAL IN PERSPECTIVE: AN ETHNOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS OF A LAKOTA SUNDANCE AT HOOSIER NATIONAL FOREST MAJOR PROFESSOR: Dr. Jonathan Gray Using ethnographic methods, interviews, observations, and participation of and in indigenous rituals, I discuss the ways in which Western and American Indian notions of spirit, human beings and their place in the world, and the practice of spirituality differ in action, thought, and word. Since the time of the Renaissance the supremacy of "rational" or "reasonable" modes of thinking has influenced the modern world. Many American Indian writers, shamans, and Sundance chiefs believe that an understanding of their approach to the Divine may never be apprehended without some sort of actual experience. This indigenous perspective differs in substantial ways from hegemonic, Christian and Western linear modes of thinking. I draw on my attendance at numerous Sundance rituals, readings by American Indian spiritual leaders, and ethnographic work done at the Salt Creek Sundance ritual to articulate and streamline major differences and similarities that exist in both approaches. Through participation and dialogue, a distinct indigenous spiritual approach emerges that is difficult to reconcile with traditional Christian and Eurocentric world views. As I hope to demonstrate, the appearance and performance of American Indian ritual serve to not only challenge Western colonial perspectives, but also to empower indigenous approaches to spirit. In order to cultivate a more tolerant approach to the diversity and various modes of spiritual expression, a change in consciousness is needed, not necessarily for the American Indian worldview, but from the current ethnocentric worldview of the US Government which holds this form of government as the highest accomplishment of any nation thus far. This dissertation offers an approach that probes the relationship between an earth based religion and a monotheistic religion. Finally, I present a vision that allows for an understanding and/or appreciation of a spiritual approach which remains alien to Western approaches and conceptualizations of spirit. Key words: rational mind, symbolic meaning, ritual, myths, sacred, ideology, truth, indigenous worlds, cosmology, spirituality, reason, ethnography, Sundance, performance, and Native American.

The Effects of Environmental Values and Political Ideology on Public Support for Renewable Energy Policy in Ottawa, CanadaFobissie Blese, Elsie 03 August 2018 (has links)
Abstract / Resumé
The Ontario provincial government faces the challenge of getting public support in the implementation of its RE policy. This thesis aims at investigating the effects of environmental values and political ideology on public support for renewable energy policy in Ottawa, Canada. Data was collected through open-ended interviews with fifty respondents in and around Ottawa, transcribed, coded and analysed using the NVivo software. Results indicate that environmental values and political ideology affect public support for renewable energy policy, but economic factors also play a role. The provincial government can think of ways to reduce the cost of electricity, invest on education and the creation of awareness on the benefits of renewable energy and the different initiatives that are offered by the RE policy to increase public support. Public ownership of RE projects and more democratic policy-making could also increase public support.

Salvador

Previous issue date: 2016 / The text presented here intends to present a critical diagnosis of the conditions of possibility of the insurgency of life forms in capitalism. In this way, we have evoked throughout the text the relation between capitalism, rationalities and ideology, in order to understand how the forms of domination and exploitation are organized by condensing themselves into the forms of life. The diagnosis, besides composing the objective of this work, is also the method used to achieve it. We’ve tried, throughout the text, to reconstruct the contingencies of capitalism (in its dimension of political economy), of rationalities and ideologies. It was not, however, a question of the reconstruction of the ways of life of the capitalism in the various phases presented here. Instead, from the hegemonic conformations of these concepts, the goal is to present how, at the macro political level, these influence on the dispositions and tendencies of the forms of sociability. The central hypothesis presented here, however, is that such provisions are imbricated in the management of motilities. Underlying the diagnostic work, a complementary diagnosis was necessary: the administration of the affections. With this, in the first part of the text, composed by the first three chapters, one perceives an effort of the forms of rationality in offering an ideal of happiness. However, by evoking psychoanalysis as a critical and analytical tool of this work, fear and anguish arise as affections with a strong power to influence the tendencies and dispositions of life forms. The literature also offered the idea of an affection that does not participate in the management circuit: the helplessness. Before this the questioning about the figures that are placed outside the forms of lives became necessary. The concept of "unworthy life" then emerged as an analytical category. Thus, in the last part of the work the relations between the affective circuits, the forms of life and the "unworthy life" were discussed. The psychoanalytic notion of jouissance was very important for this, since all the final analysis is based on the idea of the passage from a society that regulates through the prohibition to a society that regulates through the incentive. Finally, we tried to answer the question that entitles this text: "who is worth living in capitalism?".
