[en] EMPIRICAL STUDY TO PROPOSE GUIDELINES FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF BIM IN SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES IN BRAZIL / [pt] ESTUDO EMPÍRICO PARA PROPOSTA DE DIRETRIZES PARA IMPLANTAÇÃO DO BIM EM PEQUENAS E MÉDIAS EMPRESAS NO BRASIL

JOAO FELIPE LEMGRUBER COELHO 18 September 2017 (has links)
[en] Although the use of information technologies in construction is highly relevant for increasing productivity seeking sustainable development, the literature lacks clear guidelines for its implementation. The purpose of this study is to identify barriers and benefits to propose a set of guidelines for implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Brazil. The study protocol is qualitative and quantitative, containing the stages of systematic literature review, empirical studies, guidelines proposal, validation and conclusion. Evidence in the literature points to barriers in technologies, involving frequently cited software limitations and lack of interoperability. Lack of collaboration and different expectations between disciplines involved in the work flow were also identified. Above all, lack of knowledge, resistance to change, and team turnover affects the implementation of BIM. After comparing the observations from empirical studies and the literature, analyzing barriers and benefits, guidelines are proposed that involve process, technology, and people to guide the implementation of BIM. Finally a survey is used to validate the findings.

Integrate Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Sustainable Design at the Conceptual Stage of Building Projects

Jalaei, Farzad January 2015 (has links)
Lately the construction industry has become more interested in designing and constructing environmentally friendly buildings (e.g. sustainable buildings) that can provide both high performance and monetary savings. Analyzing various parameters during sustainable design such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and energy consumption, lighting simulation, green building rating system criteria and associated cost of building components at the conceptual design stage is very useful for designers needing to make decisions related to the selection of optimum design alternatives. Building Information Modeling (BIM) offers designers the ability to assess different design options and to select vital energy strategies and systems at the conceptual stage of proposed buildings. This thesis describes a methodology to implement sustainable design for proposed buildings at their conceptual stage. The proposed methodology is to be implemented through the design and development of a model that simplifies the process of designing sustainable buildings, evaluating their Environmental Impacts (EI), assessing their operational and embodied energy and listing their potential accumulated certification points in an integrated environment. Therefore, a Decision Support System (DSS) is developed by using Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) techniques to help design team decides and selects the best type of sustainable building components and design families for proposed projects based on three main criteria (i.e. Environmental, Economical factor «cost efficiency » and Social wellbeing) in an attempt to identify the influence of design variations on the sustainable performance of the whole building. The DSS outcomes are incorporated in an integrated model capable of guiding users when performing sustainable design for building projects. The proposed methodology contains five modules: 1) Database Management System (DBMS), 2) Energy and lighting analysis, 3) Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), 4) LEED and 5) Life Cycle Cost (LCC). To improve the workability of the proposed model, a use case of abovementioned modules are going to be created as plug-ins in BIM tool. The successful implementation of such a methodology represents a significant advancement in the ability to attain sustainable design of a building during the early stages, to evaluate its EI, and to list its potentially earned certification points and associated soft costs.

Oliver Faubel, Inmaculada 01 March 2016 (has links)
[EN] BIM is the process of creating and managing information of a construction product in a three dimensional computer model that incorporates data of all its life cycle. The Member States of the European Union have been recommended to use the BIM methodology in public funded projects since April 2016 by the Directive 2014/24/EU. Particularly, the Spanish Government has approved in 2015 the transposition of this Directive where a Commission has been created, under the auspice of the Ministerio de Fomento, for the implementation of BIM methodology in Spain from 2018. This fact implies a transformation for the building sector which has important implications for those people responsible for higher education in Engineering and Architecture: the BIM competences of the new graduates have to be ensured because of the requirements of the Directive for future professionals. Universities, then, must meet that requirement because the responsibility of the design of the degrees in our country relies on them. Moreover, they have to do it efficiently in a context of the global crisis whose effects are specially affecting the building sector. In addition, a hostile environment is around: today's valuation of this methodology is still poor, although it will be soon become compulsory by the legal requirements. After analyzing the state of the art in the building sector, in the profession of building engineer, in the legal framework related to it, in similar experiences that have occurred in other countries and taking into account the basis of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), a strategy for the integration of BIM in the curriculum of the Degree in Building Engineering is proposed. Mätetal inom Virtuell Design och Konstruktion / Measurement figures for Virtual Design and Construction.

Nilsson Ebers, Rasmus January 2019 (has links)
The background of this study is that the measurement figures are an important part of projects which use VDC, Virtual Design and Construction, as a method for the project. How companies choose to work with the measurement figures and which resources they have available differ. This study is carried out on behalf of Tyréns, which is a company that is at the beginning of using this method in selected projects. Together with this study, they want to bring forth a method to show the project organization and the client how they work with VDC. This study is, therefore, an initial study to examine a suitable way to work with measurement figures and is accomplished by answering the questions: • Which measurement figures are relevant to measure, concerning to BIM, to achieve the customer's and the project's goals? • How can these measurements be presented to the project participants in an educational way? The study has been conducted at Tyrén's office in Stockholm together with staff from Tyrén's own BIM department. The material in this study has been produced through an interview with Jakob Berggren, who is the Head of the Department, and through two workshops where participants were allowed to discuss an appropriate approach in common. This material has been analyzed together with previous studies to finally present two measurement figures and how these can be presented. Based on the results of the study, it was found that clear BIM-related goals are currently lacking, which is essential for measuring figures to be useful in the project. Despite this, the participants in the study considered that the number of collisions in a BIM model and the time saved thanks to automatic processes are considered as appropriate metrics, to begin with. The initial work should then be to build up a history of these two metrics to set appropriate goals and get the customer and project management to understand the benefits of BIM. By understanding the benefits of BIM, the expectation is that BIM-related goals will be formulated earlier in projects. Furthermore, the metrics should be presented, according to the participants of the study, on the project's project page which is SharePoint, developed by Microsoft. The presentation of the metrics is most suitable in the form of a dashboard. The visual design is of great importance to give the project participants a clear and concrete picture of the metrics without being misled. Finally, an appropriate proposal for the design of this dashboard is presented at the end of the report and taking into account the appropriate guidelines that emerged during the study.

SPEGLAR SVERIGES LÅGA GRAD AV DIGITAL UTVECKLING INOM BYGGSEKTORN ANVÄNDANDET AV BIM I PROJEKTERINGSSKEDET? : EN UNDERSÖKNING OM DAGENS ANVÄNDNING AV BIM I PROJEKTERINGSSKEDET / DOES SWEDEN´S LOW DEGREE OF DIGITAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR REFLECT THE USE OF BIM IN THE DESIGN PHASE? : A STUDY ON TODAY'S USE OF BIM IN THE DESIGN PHASE

Curan, Selma, Hansen, Jesper January 2021 (has links)
Purpose: There are clear benefits with BIM in the design phase, but also barriers and challenges that limit the implementation of BIM in the design phase. At present, there are no requirements for BIM in Sweden, which differs from several international countries. The aim of the report is to examine the current use of BIM in the design phase in Sweden. The report is executed in hope of contributing to an increased BIM integration in the design phase and contribute with increased knowledge about how the development of BIM can increase. Method: The research method in this study is a survey. To achieve the aim of the report and answer the research questions, data are collected via a questionnaire that is covered by both quantitative and qualitative questionnaire questions in combination with a literature study. The questionnaire has been sent out to architects, designers and constructors at various engineering- and architectural companies in Sweden. Findings: Today's use of BIM in the design phase is assumed to be high and most of the participants in the survey are aware of the benefits of BIM and how it can make the workflow in the design phase more effective. Factors that prevent the implementation of BIM are assumed to go hand in hand with factors that contribute to an increased use of BIM and thus need to be considered for the use of BIM to increase. Implications: Sweden's low degree of digital development in the construction sector does not reflect the current use of BIM in the design phase at architectural- and engineering companies in Sweden. Common uses that architect- and engineering companies apply with BIM are collision controls, information management and visualization. By increasing knowledge and informing customers about the benefits of BIM, the use of BIM is assumed to increase. A further recommendation that assumes increased use of BIM is a requirement for BIM in public construction in Sweden. Limitations: The report is limited to examining the use of BIM in the design phase and only examines architectural- and engineering companies in Sweden. The respondents consist of architects, designers and constructors. The results are representative for the report but cannot be applied to all architectural- and engineering companies in Sweden as the selection method is not generalizable.

Model rodinného domu v programu Revit / The model of a family house in Revit

Soukup, Štěpán January 2020 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on processing and data collecting for the use of creating functional 3D informating model that we call BIM (Building Information Modelling) which is getting more and more attention throughout building industry and it is used by all of the participants in the industry from designers and architects to those who are dealing with building installations. This process is slowly getting into legislations of many countries including Czechia. The thesis is divided into two parts where one of them is describing the Building Information Modeling in general and the other part is describing the work which is behind the colleting good data which is needed when making the 3D documentation in Revit software which is wildly used for designing building constructions. Practical part of the land surveyor´s work is devided here into two parts where one of them is dedicated to collecting data by laser scanning process, GNSS and measuring by total station and levelling machine. Second part focuses on the description of the data processing in order to make 3D model. The example of the output production data is the BIM 3D model of the family house in selected level of detail and besides that we also have the visualization of both interior and exterior and 2D simplified building documentations.

Impact of BIM/LEAN on the interaction of construction project design teams

Herrera Valencia, Rodrigo Fernando 14 December 2020 (has links)
The concept of smart cities points out the future cities, which will incorporate IoT and digitalization for facilitating the communication among people, their devices, government services, and various facilities that can provide enough services for the enormous population in the future cities. To achieve the goal of having the ideal smart cities, it is necessary to go digital and plan for having virtual imagination for every component in the cities, including the construction facilities. BIM method as a means of having a virtual vision of each element of the construction project glows in mind as one sort of assistance to reach this target. This thesis investigates the impact of BIM on the quality of communication in the future smart cities based on the literature review of the three smartest cities including Singapore, London, and Manchester.:Table of Contents List of Figures IV List of Tables V List of Abbreviations VI 1 Introduction 1 1.1 Problem Statement 1 1.2 Aim of the Study 3 1.3 Research Question 4 1.4 Methodology 4 1.5 Structure of Work 5 2 Research Methodology 6 2.1 Introduction 6 2.2 Overview of Common Research Methods 6 2.2.1 Inductive Method 6 2.2.2 Deductive Method 7 2.2.3 Inductive vs. Deductive Method 8 2.2.4 Quantitative Research 8 2.2.5 Qualitative Research 9 2.2.6 Tools for Data Collection 10 2.3 Research Scheme of This Thesis 16 3 Literature Review and Historical Background 19 3.1 Introduction to BIM 19 3.2 BIM Definition 20 3.2.1 National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) 20 3.2.2 Autodesk 22 3.2.3 Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) 22 3.3 BIM Levels 24 3.4 Application of BIM 25 3.4.1 Advantages of BIM 27 3.4.2 Disadvantages of BIM 29 3.5 History of employing BIM in construction projects 30 3.5.1 Before the year 2000 30 3.5.2 After the year 2000 31 3.6 Communication in construction projects 32 3.6.1 Communication, Combination of Factors 32 3.6.2 Communication Disorders in Construction Projects 33 3.7 BIM and Project Management 35 3.7.1 BIM vs. PMBOK 36 3.8 Smart Cities 36 3.8.1 Communication in smart city projects 37 3.8.2 Project Management in Smart Cities 39 3.9 Literature Review or Relevant previous studies 40 4 Case- Study 44 4.1 Singapore 44 4.1.1 BIM Use in Singapore 45 4.1.2 ITS Projects in Singapore 49 4.1.3 Intelligent Productivity and Safety System (IPASS) 50 4.1.4 Addressing Communication Challenges by BIM in the projects in Singapore 50 4.2 London, United Kingdom (UK) 52 4.2.1 Smart Projects in London (UK) 53 4.2.2 BIM Use in UK 55 4.2.3 Addressing Communication Challenges by BIM in the projects in UK 56 5 Conclusion 61 5.1 Summary of results 61 5.1.1 Findings of the Questions 62 5.2 Further Research Recommendation 63 Bibliography VIII
