Integration and everyday life of Italian refugees exiled to Northern Bohemia in the First World War :a microhistorical look at the daily experience of Sannicoló in Jablonné v Podještědí

Sbroscia, Emilia January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of the thesis is to look at the reality of an Italian-speaking refugee during the First World War, when people were forced to evacuate the Trentino region and were moved within the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The thesis will look closely at the diary of an Italian-speaking refugee, starting with his evacuation from Trentino and continuing to his arrival and permanence in the northern Bohemian city of Jablonné v Podještědí. The paper will also explore the internal migration movements and efforts made by the Habsburg Empire, with special regard to the experiences of Italian- speaking refugees. The diary of the man known as Sannicoló will be used to give a microhistorical study and perspective of his move from Rovereto, Italy to the city of Jablonné v Podještědí. His reality as an Italian-speaking refugee and citizen of the Habsburg Empire will be briefly compared with what is generally known of the refugee situation within the Austro-Hungarian Empire and that of other Italian- speaking refugees, to determine the degree of success of his integration into the local population's community. Key Words: internal migration; Italian-speaking refugees; Austro-Hungarian Empire; First World War; microhistory; diary.

Människors förändrade flyttmotiv i Sverige under Coronapandemin / Peoples altered motives for internal migration during the Corona pandemic

Laurin, Ellen, Erika, Nilsson January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine and analyze the changing motives for moving during the COVID-19 pandemic. Two research questions were formulated to achieve this objective: What were the motives for moving among private individuals in Sweden during the pandemic? How have real estate agents in Skåne perceived changes in behavior among sellers and buyers during the same period? To address these questions, a qualitative method was employed, involving semi-structured interviews with real estate agents across various locations in Skåne. Additionally, a quantitative method was utilized through digital surveys administered to individuals nationwide. The findings of the study revealed that people's motives for moving were subject to consideration and had indeed changed during the pandemic. Real estate agents reported a more substantial shift in the reasons behind people's decisions to move compared to what was indicated by the survey results. The survey study indicated that the most significant change observed in moving patterns was that more young people chose to pursue studies during the pandemic, in contrast to previous years. Conversely, real estate agents believed that changes in residential and area-specific preferences, as well as financial gain, were the most prominent factors. Ultimately, the study demonstrated that the COVID-19 pandemic had various impacts on the housing market, and the perceptions of real estate agents did not entirely align with the survey results, this only indicates divergent impressions of the same market.

A Study of Migration Projection for Small Area Population

Huang Ting-Chi Unknown Date (has links)
The population projection is used to provide information for the policy planning of governments. In Taiwan, the Council for Economic Planning and Development is in charge of the official population projection and it release projection results every two years. Basically, three factors are considered in population projection: birth, death, and migration. Since the migration has little impacts in country-level projection, many countries (including Taiwan) assume the future migration is zero or close to zero, and the focus of projection is usually on the birth and death. However, for the projection of small area (such as county- or township-level), past studies found that the effect of migration cannot be ignored. But, partly due to the limitation of migration data, there are not many studies explore the migration patterns of counties or townships in Taiwan. In this study, we use the population records (births and deaths) and the population equation to derive the county-level records of internal migration in Taiwan. We use these data to explore the migration patterns of all counties in Taiwan, and then applying block bootstrap method to modify the county-level population projection. Note that, the block bootstrap is shown to be reliable in forecasting fertility (Tsao, 2012) and mortality (Jin, 2011) for small areas. In this study, we also use the Taipei City to demonstrate the population projection which includes the internal migration, and the result is promising.

Francisco Ribeiro da Silva 28 September 2015 (has links)
This dissertation addresses the role that the Roman Catholic Church has played in rebuilding senses to northeastern migrants in order to establish a new nomos with the consequent re-creation of a plausibility structure, considering the project ecclesial evangelization facing the challenges of migration put in place in Asa Branca neighborhood, whose analyzes are made based on the theories enshrined in the religious field, with the exponent Peter Berger. In this approach, consider how was the historical process of migration in Brazil and, concurrent with this, which led to the migration of the State of Maranhão populations toward Roraima between 1980 and 1985. A recorded priori that such effort of the Catholic community in that neighborhood generated a social movement of accommodation and at the same time challenged by the migrant group front to the adversities such as unemployment, poor housing conditions, public transportation, lack of childcare and health centers standing out there the role of women. In chapter 1 we make an approach to the migration process in Brazil and Roraima, with an emphasis on shifting Maranhão state people to this region to, in Chapter 2, we present the strategies of the Catholic Church in welcoming the migrant in Wing neighborhood white. In chapter 3 we characterize this church action against the challenge of establishing a plausibility structure for the migrant, who takes the land as their new "homeland".

Activités invisibles et compétitions dans la ville africaine contemporaine : migration chinoise et reconfiguration économique à Dakar / Invisible activities and competitions in the contemporary african city : chinese migration and reconfiguration economic in Dakar

Gueye, Cina 10 May 2016 (has links)
Our thesis is particularly interested in the impact of economic modes inscriptions of Chinese entrepreneurs on the of internal balances recomposition of the invisible job market, incarnated by economic actors accumulating the differences to the majority standards in an urban environment characterized by the struggle of the different actors involved in the appropriation of land and resources offered by the city. Our goal is to realize competition regimes, cooperation, fights for space and resources offered by the city, distancing logic between actors working on competing segments. In this perspective, we opted for a multi-site approach involving various urban competition actors: Senegalese street traders, shoemakers, to appreciate the different postures of the actor’s invisible economy facing to the recomposition of the internal balance of their business segments. The emphasis on the reconfiguration of the invisible job market induced by the co-presence in this type of ethnographical research examines the domination reports, resistors, but also adaptations that punctuate the actors in the urban area where is building new trade arrangements between tension and compromise.

Are You Staying? : A Study of In-movers to Northern Sweden and the Factors Influencing Migration and Duration of Stay

Andersson, Erika January 2017 (has links)
The distribution of the population has multiple implications on regional development and planning. In-migration is frequently seen as the only possible solution in order to rejuvenate the population and stimulate regional development in sparsely populated regions. A population increase results in greater tax revenues, meaning that local authorities can plan for their inhabitants and expenditures in a more sufficient way. In addition, certain professionals are needed in order to support essential local services such as schools and hospitals. Place marketing with the intention of attracting in-movers has become increasingly popular, especially for rural, sparsely populated Swedish municipalities. Still, the outcome from place marketing efforts are dubious and in addition, migration has a temporal aspect and individual migration propensity usually fluctuates over time. This begs the question – how long do in-movers stay? Is there potential for long lasting development in sparsely populated regions connected to in-movers or is it temporary? This study focuses on the duration of time until an in-mover re-migrates from Region 8 in northern Sweden and which socioeconomic and demographic factors that influences the out- migration. This is studied by applying an event history method with discrete-time logistic regressions. The study follows individuals in working age that moved to any of nine specified municipalities in Västerbotten and Norrbotten County, sometime between 2000 and 2011. Questions posed for the study is: i) On average, how long did people who moved to Region 8 between the years 2000-2011 stay in the region? ii) What are the socioeconomic and demographic factors that influence the out-migration from the region? iii) Do the influencing factors differ between women and men? The results show that the time perspective matters as the risk of moving out was highest in the initial years and that it declines with time. 30 % of the sampled in-movers had moved out again within the time of observation, and on average the in-movers stayed for nine years. The regression results indicated that the factors that had the greatest influence on the out- migration was unemployment, being between 20-26 years old, high education, having and unemployed partner, and having children below school age. Women had a slightly lower likelihood of moving out compared to men, and the most prominent influential factor to outmigration that varied between women and men was unemployment.

The main objective of this research is to evaluate the impact of the characteristics of the labour market upon the interdepartmental migration decision across the Peruvian territory, considering regional labour income as the main characteristic. Therefore, three measures of the income indicator are used. The analysis is developed through the binomial Logit econometric model to estimate the relationship between the characteristics of the labour market and the migratory status of individuals at working age. The study concludes that, in presence of a higher level of income from work in the destination territory, in the three presentations, this indicator acts as a population attraction factor. On the other hand, that presence in the origin territory took represents a population retention factor. / Trabajo de investigación
