O trabalho propõe, a partir do romance Lucíola, uma análise da imagem da mulher construída por José de Alencar, do arsenal simbólico utilizado nesta construção e da maneira como a representação do feminino neste romance reflete a moral da época. O objetivo é abordar o antagonismo presente na obra buscando mostrar como ele se faz presente não apenas na estrutura da narrativa, como na própria heroína: ser bifronte, ao mesmo tempo virgem e bacante. Ao mesmo tempo, procuraremos analisar em que medida a construção da personagem reflete uma ambição mimética e documentadora, ainda que indireta, do presente histórico. Mostraremos que o paradigma de feminilidade construído por Alencar nesta obra reflete a busca por certo progressismo sem, no entanto, colocar em cheque os valores básicos da moral e da família, acompanhando o ritmo de nossa modernização conservadora. / The aim of this study is to analyze the representation of woman in the novel Lucíola, by José de Alencar, paying attention on its symbolic elements and verifying how the image of women built by Alencar is this work reflects the moral of its time. The main idea is to focus on the antagonism presented in the novel searching how it is part not only of the narrative structure but also of the constructed hero: a duplicated being, at the same time a virgin and a courtesan. At the same time, the study intend to analyze to what extend the building of the character reflects a mimetic or a documentary ambition, even if indirect, of the historical moment. In the end, we will show that the paradigm of femininity built by Alencar in this work reflects the search of some sort of progressivism, although it doesnt call into question the basic values of moral and family, keeping pace with our conservative modernization.

Apresentamos, nesta dissertação, a correspondência reunida do escritor e político José Martiniano de Alencar (1829-1877) em uma proposta de edição anotada. Trata-se do estudo e da organização de 279 cartas, acompanhadas de notas e de 61 fac-símiles de documentos conservados em diferentes instituições brasileiras (Academia Brasileira de Letras, Biblioteca Nacional, Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa e Museu Imperial). Para melhor análise das missivas, objetivando abarcar por diferentes ângulos a trajetória biográfica da personalidade em questão, propomos a divisão do epistolário alencariano (ativo e passivo) em quatro categorias: cartas pessoais, jornalísticas, literárias e políticas. / We present here the correspondence gathered of the writer and politician José Martiniano de Alencar (1829-1877) in an annotated edition. It is a study and organization of 279 letters, accompanied by notes, and of 61 facsimiles of documents, stored in various Brazilian institutions (the Brazilian Academy of Letters, the National Library, the House of Rui Barbosa Foundation, and the Imperial Museum). For a better analysis of the letters, in order to cover various angles of the biography of the person in question, we have chosen to divide his correspondence (active and passive) into four categories of letters: personal, journalistic, literary, and political.

A presente dissertação trabalha a relação textual que se estabelece entre as descrições de cenários e Lúcia, protagonista do romance Lucíola, de José de Alencar. A hipótese é de que a relação não só existe, mas se articula com um todo que envolve o narrador, a personagem descrita e os espaços público e privado. Além disso, como essas articulações revelam uma série de questões presentes no tempo histórico de Alencar, como a emergência da modernidade em conflito com preceitos tradicionais. A partir da leitura atenta de alguns espaços do romance (a festa da Glória, primeiros encontros na casa da cortesã, a chácara de Sá, os espaços públicos do Rio de Janeiro e a casa de campo da cortesã) procuramos entender o desenvolvimento da personagem Lúcia e os motivos que levaram à sua mudança para o campo nos capítulos finais. / The dissertation presented here works with the textual relation that is established between the descriptions of the scenery and Lúcia, the main character in the novel Lucíola, by José de Alencar. The hypothesis is that the connection not only exists, but also links a whole that involves the narrator, the depicted character and public and private spaces. Besides, these links reveal a wide variety of topics displayed in the historical time that lived Alencar, as the eagerness to reach modernity battling against the traditional precept. Reading attentively some of the novel\'s ambiances (Gloria\'s festivity, the first meetings at the courtesan\'s house, the country house of Sá, the open spaces in Rio de Janeiro and the courtesan\'s house in the field) we try to understand the development of Lucia\'s character and the motives behind her decision to move to the countryside in the final chapters.

Esta dissertação tem por finalidade discutir o início da regulamentação da atividade literária no Brasil a partir dos contratos de Alencar e de outros romancistas com o editor Garnier, considerando o incipiente mercado editorial do século XIX. Além disso, valorizar os prólogos, como importantes no desenvolvimento de um debate acerca do romance nacional, com ênfase em Benção Paterna prefácio de Alencar ao romance Sonhos douro (1872), por meio do qual é possível perceber a consolidação desse gênero e o estatuto que o autor queria elevar o ofício de romancista. Por fim, apresentamos uma leitura do Projeto de Lei de Direitos Autorais, de 1875, de autoria de José de Alencar, formalizando uma busca do escritor pelo reconhecimento da atividade literária e afirmação da obra como propriedade passível de se auferir lucros, mas sem perder o seu valor estético. O objetivo, portanto, da nossa pesquisa é mostrar como o escritor militou a favor da profissionalização do escritor brasileiro, considerando o mercado editorial, os prólogos e o projeto de lei. / The following dissertation is regarding a discussion about how the regulation of some literature trade activities started in Brazil, after contracts made between novelists, included the principal romancer Alencar with the publisher Garnier. Also, taking as a mainly consideration to this research, the incipient publishing market back in 19th century. Moreover, it\'s important to make the prologues as values motivation to develop and persuade this discussion involving the national books of romance, emphasizing in a specific literary and important one called \"Bênção Paterna\" from Alencar, who wanted to bring up his consolidation with this genre and to statute of his romancer craft. Ultimately, to present a good view of The Copyright Law project written in 1875 by José de Alencar, which formalized his literary search for recognition and affirmation in the literature industry, deriving profits without losing its aesthetic values. Our research objective, it was to show how a writer militated his achieves in the last century, establishing a recognition to all Brazilian romancer authors as a profession in the publishing market, with the base of prologues and support of Law Bills.

Objetiva problematizar a noção de público com a qual se opera no campo da produção cultural. Para além do público como demanda a ser atendida, um alvo a ser atingido. Opera na perspectiva de que público é uma construção social. Público é criado, inventado, produzido. A relação que subjaz à esta perspectiva é a de teatro e processos de subjetivação. Como um programa de formação de platéia, desenvolvida por uma instituição cultural de caráter público, governamental, pode instaurar práticas sociais vitalizadoras? A indagação conduz a pesquisa empírica, realizada ao longo da vigência do projeto. Perpassa o diálogo com a sociologia de Pierre Bourdieu, com ênfase na compreensão do aprendizado pelo corpo. A compreensão de subjetividade como processo social, como eminentemente gestada no social, vem de Deleuze-Guattari. Aponta para uma compreensão de público no âmbito da produção. Uma compreensão que atribui ao público o papel de artista, criador de novas demandas, agente social da permanente invenção da vida.

De Janvier à avril 1857 José de Alencar a publié le roman "O Guarani" sur les pages du journal Diario do Rio de Janeiro, et il est devenu son plus grand blockbuster. Après cela, le travail qui est né au bas des pages de journaux seraient assemblés sous forme de livre, transformé en opéra, a traversé le vingtième siècle avec différentes versions du film et est arrivé à la XXI siècle avec plus d'une version à BD. Cette recherche permettra de vérifier, à partir de la version du journal, les éléments de ce roman qu’ont été incorporés dans la composition de l'œuvre par l'auteur, et comment ces éléments ont été assimilés ou éliminés lorsque transposée à d'autres types de médias. Pour atteindre ces objectifs, la recherche sera basée sur le travail de Marie-Ève ​​Thérenty sur les relations entre littérature et le journalisme au XIXe siècle, spécialement sur la tension dialectique entre la presse et de la littérature. La recherche sera basée également sur le support théorique des auteurs comme Antonio Cândido, Marlyse Meyer, Umberto Eco, Roger Chartier et Frédéric Barbier, pour obtenir le concept de l'intermédialité travers te travaux d'auteurs comme Alfonso De Toro et d'autres liées à ce domaine de recherche . À la fin des travaux, il est prévu de montrer que la transposition du roman qui est né dans les pages de journaux à différents supports pendant deux siècles peut caractériser O Guarani comme le premier produit avec un potentiel multimédiatique de l'histoire culturelle brésilienne. / From January to April 1857 José de Alencar has published the novel “O Guarani” at the pages of Rio de Janeiro Diary, a daily newspaper, and it became his biggest blockbuster. After that, the work that was born at the bottom of the newspaper pages would be assembled in a book form, transformed into opera, crossed the twentieth century with various film versions and arrived to the XXI century with more than one version in HQ. This research will check, from the newspaper version, which elements of that novel were incorporated in the composition of the work by the author, and how these elements were assimilated or eliminated when transposed to other kinds of media. To achieve these goals, the research will be based on the work of Marie-Ève Thérenty about the relations between literature and journalism in the nineteenth century, specially focused on the dialectical tension between press and literature. The research will be based also on the theoretical support of authors like Antônio Cândido, Marlyse Meyer, Umberto Eco, Roger Chartier and Fréderic Barbier, to get the intermediality concept through te work of authors like Alfonso De Toro and others related to this field of research. At the end of the work, it is expected to show that the transposition from the novel that was born at the newspaper pages to different supports during two centuries may characterize O Guarani like the first product with multimediatic potential of Brazilian cultural history.

Ao longo desta dissertação, submeterei as três obras indianistas de José de Alencar O guarani, Iracema e Ubirajara a uma leitura ossianizada, em que tentarei enxergar a presença de idéias e estilos hauridos dos Poemas de Ossian, pretensamente traduzidos por James Macpherson, na Escócia do século XVIII. Esta abordagem se concentrará, de um lado, na linguagem e na sensibilidade que se atribuía, de acordo com os preceitos do nacionalismo, aos povos primitivos. De outro lado, também se analisará a maneira como se interpreta o destino de indígenas e celtas em face de mudanças sociais, políticas e econômicas trazidas ou pela modernização capitalista ou pelo sistema colonial. / Throughout this dissertation, the indianist works of José de Alencar (The Guarany, Iracema, and Ubirajara) are given an ossianic reading: I seek to reveal in those writings the presence of the ideas and styles of the Poems of Ossian, translated by the eighteenth-century highlander, James Macpherson. Our reading will focus, on the one hand, on the language and the sensibility attributed (often from a nationalistic standpoint) to primitive peoples. On the other hand, I will analyze Macphersons and Alencars expectations regarding the fate of such peoples, as they face the social, political and economic upheavals brought about by colonial rule or the economic development of modern western societies.
