Evoluční model s učením (LEM) pro optimalizační úlohy / Learnable Evolution Model for Optimization (LEM)

Grunt, Pavel January 2014 (has links)
My thesis is dealing with the Learnable Evolution Model (LEM), a new evolutionary method of optimization, which employs a classification algorithm. The optimization process is guided by a characteristics of differences between groups of high and low performance solutions in the population. In this thesis I introduce new variants of LEM using classification algorithm AdaBoost or SVM. The qualities of proposed LEM variants were validated in a series of experiments in static and dynamic enviroment. The results have shown that the metod has better results with smaller group sizes. When compared to the Estimation of Distribution Algorithm, the LEM variants achieve comparable or better values faster. However, the LEM variant which combined the AdaBoost approach with the SVM approach had the best overall performance.

Evoluční model s učením (LEM) pro optimalizační úlohy / Learnable Evolution Model for Optimization (LEM)

Weiss, Martin January 2011 (has links)
Numerical optimization of multimodal or otherwise nontrivial functions has stayed around the peak of the interest of many researchers for a long time. One of the promising methods that appeared is the hybrid approach of the Learnable Evolution Model that combines the well-established ways of artificial intelligence and machine learning with recently popular and efective methods of evolutionary programming. In this work, the method itself was reviewed with respect to what has been already implemented and tested and several possible new implementations of the method were proposed and some of them consequently implemented. The resulting program was then tested against a set of chosen nontrivial real-valued functions and its results were compared to those achieved with EDA algorithms.

Cognitive rationality and indeterminism in the contemporary detective novel, with special reference to the work of Umberto Eco, Carlo Emilio Gadda and Stanislaw Lem

Van der Linde, G. P. L. (Gerhardus Philippus Leonardus) 06 1900 (has links)
The study examines cognitive rationality as to()l for problemsolving within the context of a movement from determinism and monolithic universal Reason towards indeterminism and plurality. It is contended that theories of literature do not provide an adequate conceptual framework, and therefore, extensive use is made of pluralist fallibilism (Popper, Helmut Spinner) and chaos theory. The philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche is viewed as a decisive influence in the shift towards plurality and scepticism. In chapter 2, Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories, a novel by Agatha Christie and Gaston Leroux's Le mystere de Ia chambre jaune are discussed as examples of optimistic rationalism. Chapter 3 indicates that Eco's II nome della rosa emphasizes the conjectural nature of truth and objective knowledge, underpinned by a 'soft' rationalism which amounts to monopolistic pluralism. Chapter 4 analyses the defeat of cognitive rationality by the complex interaction of a multiplicity of independent causal series. The detectives' relationship with the feminine exemplifies the interpenetration of rationality and the instinctual, while the mystery of the feminine is a metaphor for impenetrable complexity. Chapter 5 shows that hypotheses concerning random complex systems remain inconclusive. However, as the trajectory of a complex system can be regulated, so reason can be viewed as the underlying regulative pattern (strange attractorl for an infinite proliferation of hypotheses. Thus, despite .shifting conceptions of rationality and order, all the detectives in the study accept objective truth as regulative principle and are involved in a search for objective knowledge / Afrikaans & Theory of Literature / D.Litt. et Phil. / The present work deals with a methodological proposal for mathematics teachers practicing, which came out from a testing made in the Math Teaching Lab (MTL), of the Universidade Aberta do Brasil (UAB), in Cametá, during tutorial supervised training classes, with students from mathematics distance course. MTL was created in 2013, yet a little explored at initial formation of math teachers, however. The main goal of this work is to present and orientate future teachers of math by the use of some didactic materials from MTL, its reproduction through alternatives materials (junk metal) as well. This research is focused on the Concepts Fields Theory of Vergnaud (1990), also claimed by Pais (2008 and 2011); Kamii (1992), who deals with mathlogic knowledge construction; Alves(2001) and Dohme (2011), who talks about the use of solid games; Yus (1998) and Gonçalves (2005 and 2011), who hold reflexive teachers formation and Lorenzato (2006), who claims about MTL. We also emphasize the research production construction (didactic book) elaborated from a solid game (balance form) of MTL/UAB/Cametá, PA. The students of UAB/2011 class were involved at the workshops. The research has qualitative approach on search-action form, because we developed field activities that began meeting the space of MTL, gathering to experimentation workshops using four solid games from MTL (geo-plain, fractional ruler, balance form and space figures). At the end of this research, interviews were made, in order to identify the comprehension of the college students as the concepts studies, contents and transversal themes by the manipulation of the games. For the second workshop, we built alternative materials from games used on the first one to be used at the period discipline regency and at future teachers practicing. The results of this teaching proposal point out the need of significant exploration of new trends for Mathematics Education during initial formation of math teachers. Among them we presented concrete games, as well as, exploration over other pedagogical spaces instead of a classroom. Here, we mentioned the use of MTL, and was possible to check during workshops, great interest of the students to develop their studies at this place, which makes us think about this place as an important contribution for math teaching, as college studies as basic education.

Tropes of Alterity in Soviet and Polish Science Fiction (1957-1992)

Tereshchenko, Serhii January 2023 (has links)
This dissertation examines Soviet and Polish science fiction from the 1960s to 1980s as a political genre that investigates power and society. The problem of alterity is central for this genre: it is ungovernable because it is incomprehensible. Science fiction of this kind explores the possibilities and impossibilities of living with the Other that can impact social organization dramatically and lethally while that Other cannot be impacted in return. Living peacefully with such alterity is the fundamental premise of pluralism as a principle of social organization, according to the conclusions of the study. The dissertation explores alterity in science fiction by Ivan Efremov (1908–1972), Arkady and Boris Strugatsky (1925–1991 and 1933–2012), Stanisław Lem (1921–2006), and Volodymyr Savchenko (1933–2005). My goal is to reveal in their works a transformative epistemological shift that had manifested itself through the tropes of alterity. Among these tropes the dissertation highlights aliens and alien civilizations, artificial intelligence, anisotropic universe, distant planets endowed with unique natural attributes, the more abstract unknown, and non-human elements running out-of-control within human species. I also examine specifically science-fictional notions such as the bull and progressor, which represent the intelligentsia’s relations with power and the masses. The analyzed literary worlds also represent their authors’ views of alternative societal organization, ruled by the powerful alterity such as a mega-computer or alien super-intelligence. Another important trope of alterity is based upon a simultaneous performance of contradictory competing logics that create an effect known as parallax: the reader may interpret the same characters and/or stories in multiple, mutually incompatible, ways. Beyond avoiding censorship, these tropes set the stage for the authors’ utopias, in which the Other appears as an impenetrable alterity that affects those who encounter it. For these writers, alterity serves as the tool for problematizing progress, as it was imagined after World War II by the majority of political elites under socialism and in the West. I suggest that their science fiction contributed, among many other factors, to the lexicon and the imaginary of a cohort of political dissidents and Communist Party functionaries alike who translated science-fictional themes into political science terms to shape Perestroika’s discourse. The dissertation, thus, establishes a historical connection between Soviet and Polish science fiction of the post-Stalin period and the ways in which democracy was discursively constructed in Russia, Ukraine, Poland, and other former socialist nations.
