An improvement proposal under the integrated logistics vision: a research-action approach in a public hospital policlinic

Fernando Moccellin 23 May 2005 (has links)
This paper seeks investigate, through a research-action, the integrated logistics application for solutions to improve a public hospital policlinics process. This application is oriented by a logistics excellence model, which are identified six basics elements to obtain the logistics performance of an organization: strategic orientation, process change, integration mechanisms, alliance management, information systems, performance measurement. Unfolding these six elements, concepts and techniques of the literature were sought to supply the needs of each element. The main concepts and techniques were: lean thinking, change management, process management, tools of process mapping and causes and effects diagram. The work shows the whole research-action development, since the actual situation mapping until the solution proposals, followed by the process change. It was verified that as much as the model and the associated techniques were a powerful tool for the policlinic environment analysis, as well for give direction to changes and for the future model proposition.

Evaluation of a implantation process of the lean thinking and its acting at value flow: a study of case / Avaliação de um processo de implantação de mentalidade enxuta e seu desempenho no fluxo de valor: um estudo de caso

Reinaldo Viveiros Carraro 14 May 2005 (has links)
It is globally recognized the group of advantages and differential competitive generated by the adoption of the work methodology developed by Toyota, and denominated, in the occident, Lean Thinking. The group of tools that composes this methodology is applied broadly and it has vast bibliography proving its effectiveness in the great organizations, especially in the automobile industry, however its applicability in small organizations, manufacturer or not, with continuous flows or intermittent it should be equally productive, although it is still more lacking of studies. The case study presented in this work focuses planning aspects, implementation, control and measure of the acting attributed to the Lean Thinking in an industry global leader in technology of control of movements. It possesses dozens of production cells in the studied unit, it operates at a market of great competitiveness, sazonalidade and of constant technological evolution, demanding a combination of abilities to have flexibility, speed, reliability, quality and good costs. It is made an evaluation of the program of implantation of the methodology Lean and their results, confronting them with some available studies in the world literature. The analysis of the methodology used by the company in the implantation of its program offers as a model proposal for implantations in similar environment.

South African automotive industry: globalisation, re-structuring and world-class manufacture.

Van der Horst, Frank January 2002 (has links)
Magister Commercii - MCom / Political and economic sanctions between 1970 and 1994 isolated the inward-oriented economy of South Africa from global trends. A variety of factors, such as a challenging new global competitive environment, production overcapacity, falling protectionist tariff barriers in a period of liberalisation, world-class manufacture and globalisation, are contributing to the reform of the economy and the automotive industry. The South African automotive industry therefore faces a major reform in trade policy. The South African government introduced the Motor Industry Development Plan (MIDP) in 1995, to create the necessary levels of competitiveness, promote world class manufacture practices, increase levels of investments and exports that would consequently lead to the successful reconstruction and development of this sector of the South African economy. Subsequent research has shown that the successful adoption of world-class manufacture (or lean production) processes in the South African automotive industry is necessary not only for survival, but also for increased competitiveness of the industry and the improved economic performance of automotive firms. However, complicated links exist between the adoption of world-class manufacture for improved levels of operational competitiveness. for firm-level success, on the one hand, and long-term sustainability of the industry, on the other hand. Combined firm level economic success and long-term sustainability of the industry depend on factors such as international trends, connectivity to global value chains, modern technological capabilities, lean production and enterprise systems, substantial investments, increased exports, world-wide quality standards, as well as customer satisfaction, human resource development, advanced education, skills development, worker participation, government policy and institutional support. This is borne out by a recent study of the auto component sector, utilising a lean , production 'market driver' toolkit. The study found that although component manufacturers significantly improved their operational competitiveness, they have not necessarily experienced improved economic performance levels. More important is connectedness and integration into global value chains, via intermediaries, mergers and acquisitions. The changing political economy of automotive value chains is also important in shaping fum-level operational success and industry sustainability. In this research paper, we review global automotive industry trends which influenced the introduction of the government's visionary MIDP. We then discuss their impact on the performance of the South African assembly and component sectors at industry and finn level. This leads to a series of recommendations for improved performance to world-class manufacture, world-wide quality standards and global competitiveness

Impact of BIM/LEAN on the interaction of construction project design teams

Herrera Valencia, Rodrigo Fernando 14 December 2020 (has links)
[EN] Design teams of construction projects are composed of different stakeholders; this fact could make the interactions difficult. BIM and Lean methodologies have a positive impact on construction projects. Besides, there is evidence of the combined implementation of BIM and Lean; however, it is not known the empirical relationship between Lean practices and BIM uses in the design phase. Also, there is not a deeper understanding of the social phenomena that are generated among design teams when BIM-Lean management methodologies are implemented. Therefore, the objective of this research is to understand the impact of Lean design management (LDM) practices, and BIM uses in the interaction of construction project design teams. The research method has two phases: (1) the creation of tools to assess the level of implementation of LDM practices and BIM uses and to understand the interactions in a design team; and (2) the relationship analyses between BIM, Lean, and interaction, based on empirical information from construction projects in the design phase. The results present a BIM uses assessment tool and an LDM practices questionnaire to measure the design management and a method to understand the different types of interaction in a design team. Based on data from 64 projects, a chi-square analysis revealed 33 empirical relationships between BIM uses and LDM practices; also, the application of BIM uses implies a greater application of LDM practices. The project that applies BIM-Lean management achieves many interactions among its design team; transparent, orderly, and standardized information flows; a collaborative, trust, and learning environment; and commitment management. All these interaction elements are not visible in the project, where BIM-lean management was not applied. / Herrera Valencia, RF. (2020). / Increasingly, public listed companies, also known as mixed capital companies, find themselves forced to seek alternatives to compete and remain updated to allow them to improve their internal processes and find ways to make the management and operation of their activities less costly and more agile, in order to improve the effectiveness in serving its customers and other stakeholders. In this sense, the present study was designed, from the Literature Review and Case Study method, to investigate the application of lean thinking to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of organizational processes related to activity of physical receiving of supplies and fiscal and tax analysis of invoices, in a mixed economy company in the Brazilian electricity sector, considering that it was facing difficulties to fit the governmental requirements arising from the introduction of the Electronic Invoice, especially by modifying the deadlines for cancellation of the said document after the issue, as well as under other legal, financial and contractual terms. In order to guide the implementation, a framework was built based mainly on models Lean Manufacturing and Lean Office, as well as absorbing elements from the approaches Six Sigma and Theory of Constraints. Finally, after implementation, we investigated the results achieved in order to confront them with the pre-intervention scenario and operational objectives of the area in order to verify that the legal deadlines for the completion of said activity could be met effectively, in a corporate scenario cost containment and reduction of staff.

The influence of lean thinking on discrete manufacturing organisational structure and behavior

De Vries, Herbert 02 1900 (has links)
In following a lean transformation specifically for discrete manufacturing, how and why will the organisational structure be affected? How will the employees deal with this profound change? Lean theory and literature propose that organisations should be restructured according to the value stream of the organisation; what does this imply and how can it be accomplished? The purpose of this study was to determine, from a new perspective, guidelines and theory that could indicate how and why organisational structures and behaviours might change with lean transformation. Two discrete manufacturing organisations in South Africa were purposively sampled for this purpose. A conceptual framework was used at the outset that indicated constructs for the independent lean variables and the dependent organisational structure and behaviour variables. Using a mixed methodology case study and quantitative multiple linear regression approach, hypotheses and propositions for the research were developed. Multiple linear regression was used to test the hypotheses, and case study methodology was applied to analyse and test the qualitative data. Findings confirmed the hypotheses and propositions that a flat structure consisting of business units that support manufacturing cells achieves effective lean transformations in discrete manufacturing organisations. The research revealed the components of an effective lean structure as open constructive leadership, an effective lean champions unit and business units that support linked manufacturing cells. These are led by cell leaders who cultivate supportive behaviours through cross-functional teamwork and through self-directed work teams who run manufacturing cells or flow support functions. / Business Management / D.B.L.
