Our research holds the African-brazilianness as the main theme and takes as its object of investigation the African-brazilian Children's book named as Os Reizinhos de Congo (2007a), whose author is Edimilson de Almeida Pereira and the illustration is made by Graça Lima. We were theoretically supported by the Aesthetics of Reception, proposed by Iser (1996- 1999), with specificity for the Theory of Aesthetic Effect, in order to apprehend the reading process in this work. Based on this support, we aimed at understanding how this literary work, in its aesthetic and cultural aspects, is characterized as an African-brazilian juvenile literary work. The choice of a research object, which could meet our needs, required readings of other literary works. Thus, we used as reference the titles that have been distributed by the National Program of Library in School (Programa Nacional Biblioteca da Escola – PNBE) concerning about our studied topic. However, we did not find among the works of PNBE one that could meet our expectations, so, other readings were taken until we get to this referenced work. As criteria for analyzing the book, we decided to understand the textual arrangement and infer the aesthetic experience based on our reading decision-making. Thus, the reading was effective some elements of Iser’s theory were proposed to show such process of reading. The results indicated that the studied literature presents enough elements to be characterized as an African-brazilian work as well as its textual arrangement displays literariness. Due to these results, we propose an initial classification for the works that fit the perspective of children's literature with an African-brazilian theme, such as Os Reizinhos de Congo.

Costa, Nelzir Martins 13 March 2013 (has links)
The objective of the research was to analyse how the Law 10.639/2003 is being applied in the textbooks Portuguese language for secondary school, distributed by the National Textbook Program (PNLD). The analysis focused on the observation of the insertion of African-Brazilian and African literatures across the syllabus, aiming to verify a wide scope of materials, were analysed textbooks used in High Schools in the four largest cities that host the Regional Training Directors and Management of the State of Tocantins: Palmas, Araguaína, Porto Nacional and Gurupi. This study required a revival: in the formation of Brazilian society, as well as ethnic-racial relations that permeate this diversity; the systematic education and the laws governing it, checking the guidelines for working with ethnical and racial issues and proposed education aimed at equal rights, besides the approach of literature as a necessary element of human education, considering the importance of the production of African – Brazilian and African literatures for the affirmation of black identity and as a symbol of the independence from European standards in the Portuguese – speaking African countries. What we found is that, despite the expiracion of 10 (ten) years from the approval of Law 10.639/2003 , the Portuguese Language textbooks for high schools still find it difficult to present such content. Denoting that its approach is presented in a superficial and restricted form in most collections analysed. Which requires considerations by area teachers, authores, publishers, and Ministry of Education trough PNLD.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation consists of theanalysisof gender, ethnicity and class representation in its relationship with the urban space in the novelsPonciáVicêncio, by ConceiçãoEvaristo, andAs mulheres de Tijucopapo, by MarileneFelinto. Both authors are acclaimed Afro-Brazilian writers, due to their narratives centered in the daily life of Afro-Brazilian men and women. In their narratives, the stereotypes built by canonical literature on the black woman, being visible in them the spreading of a discourse opposed to the established, unveiling and resignifying the body and the sexuality, as well as the violence, family relationships and social exclusion of Afro-Brazilians.To achieve thisreflection, an interdisciplinary approach was needed, with some concepts provided by Gender Studies, Sociology, History and Geography. The hypothesis guiding this reading is that there is a spacial dimension on gendered andethnicrelationships, well established, which turns explicitthe inequalities between men and womenas well as the territorial and social differences in the relationship between the genders. It is possible to identify Afro-Brazilian's spatiality in the novels here analyzed, enabling the reading of significance on the collective representation and unveilingrelationships centered on hierarchy and exclusion.

Such texts increasingly affirm themselves in the scenery of the Brazilian literary canon, when they turn to the way of the fights that impel the black population to seek for their personal affirmation and for the guarantee of their rights as citizens. Under this angle we´ll analyze here the works A cor da ternura (1998), by Geni Guimarães and Ponciá Vicêncio (2003), by Conceição Evaristo, in a comparative study of the protagonist´s discourses in what concerns the issues of identity, presented through a plot of memoirs in which the life experiences exposed by them suggest actions of combat against and resistance to racial prejudice and oppression on the part of the dominant society. In this work we use as theoretical basis the studies made by Anna Freud (1976); Halbwachs (1990); Bergson (1999); Landowski (2002); Giddens (2002); Bauman (2005); Seligmann-Silva (2005); Hall (2006/2013); Fanon (2008); (2010); Castells (2010) and Candau (2012), among others.

This dissertation aims to make a comparative analysis of five literature textbooks used in Brazilian high schools. The objective is to investigate the reasons and consequences for the almost absence of literature by black voices that articulates their experiences about their own social conditions and racism in Brazilian society. What is generally observed is the suppressing of ethno-racial issues from the contents of these textbooks. That silence is shown in several ways being relevant the strategic method of omission of literary texts by Afro-Brazilian writers who are considered canons in the model of historically traditional literary works of Machado de Assis, Cruz e Sousa and Lima Barreto. Furthermore, there is also a tendency to covey race relation issues from literature in which black people are portrayed in negative stereotypes. The body of the present study focuses on six textbooks approved for use in Brazilian literature classrooms according to the Programa Nacional do Livro para o Ensino Médio (National Book Program for High School Education), which is responsible for the free distribution of textbooks/didactic materials to Brazilian public schools under the Department of Education. This distribution was made through the assessment of auditor’s report from PNLEM catalog /2006. With the intent to acknowledge the complexities that are present in these textbooks, the theoretical and methodological concept of this research was of interdisciplinary nature. The knowledge was driven from the following areas: literary studies, Brazilian race-relation studies, sociology and history. In this way, there is a belief that the reflections of this dissertation can contribute to future research in terms of analysis and the production of literary material for education. Also, for a methodological perspective that includes Afro-Brazilian literary texts and develops discussion on race relations in Brazil, taking into account the most recent studies on the theme.

____________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / In recent years, academic research and studies have shown that Afro-Brazilian women are marginalized figures in canonical Brazilian literature. As fictional characters they rarely occupy the role of main protagonists or even supporting figures, and when they are represented they tend to be stereotyped in a inferior, negative position. As readers, researchers and writers Afro-Brazilian females form part of an ever restricted group, which gradually has increased its participation in the Brazilian literary field. Faced with the prospect of invisibility and negative stereotyping, black women are organizing themselves with the objective of creating representations more faithful in the literary discourse and, as a consequence, in the collective Brazilian imaginary, fostered also by literary discourse. In this study I exemplify the stereotypical representations of black female protagonists in Brazilian canonical literature, adopting the concept of Afro-Brazilian literature proposed by Eduardo de Assis Duarte as a foundation for the proposal created by the writers of the Cadernos Negros (Black Notebooks). A survey is conducted of the most frequently discussed topics by these writers, and finally I present an analysis of a selection of short stories of a specific edition of Cadernos Negros: the best stories, published in 1998, the commemorative edition marking twenty years of existence since publication.

__________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The purpose of this thesis is to lend visibility to Black female protagonism in nineteenth century slave-holding Brazil and, present in our times in literary narrative. We analyze the work of meta-fiction, Um defeito de cor (A defect of color), a novel by Ana Maria Gonçalves published in 2006, which establishes a dialogue between fiction and history. Examining questions related to literature, history, race, gender and the African diaspora, we seek to demonstrate the importance of works of art by Brazilians of African descent, ethnographically committed to the issue of contemporary race relations. Following the example of Um defeito de cor, this paper was written with a view to a re-reading of aspects of official Brazilian history, from the viewpoint not only of an historian dedicated to questions of hegemony, but also of a critic of the historiography of Brazilian literature. It is the female and Black vision that releases new forces and gives ressonance to the voice of the underling in a traditionally conservative context. It is an opportunity to create a new discourse, constituting a new history written by the “ex-centric” of our country and critical of the prevailing intellectual status quo, but also characterizing a narrative which is inseparable from life and reality.

This paper's goal is to investigate how the childhood representation of black children happens in the afro-Brazilian novels, Ponciá Vicêncio (2003) and Becos da Memória (2006) both by Conceição Evaristo. Our investigative view came from the presupposition that black children rarely appear at Brazilian literature, clearly occupying a peripheral place at the literary tradition. However, it's been found that these children gain visibility and a plausible/legitimate representation and authorized in the contemporary-afro-Brazilian literary works at Conceição Evaristo's novels. By its political character we consider that these stories appear as attempts at self-representation of the childhood by these black writers, in a way that the political and aesthetic project of the current literature comes to meet those ideals perfectly. The black children narrated in Conceição Evaristo's afro-Brazilian literature are made as historical actors capable of reacting, engendering tensions and raising conflicts for escape moments, as a way of resistance against the oppressions lived by them. Therefore, the goal is to examine the figuration of the childhood's social space in these novels, highlighting the way that the author uses the memory's aesthetization to put the black child on stage and present the childish, that without losing sight the childhood here discussed comes from the premise of a historical, cultural building susceptible to social variations.

In this case there is the need to effectively implement it in schools and, more specifically, teachers need to deal with the theme in a cross-cutting way. Believing that a teaching practice that addresses racial and ethnic diversity is important from early childhood education, this work aims to discuss the use of african-Brazilian literature in early childhood education, promoting actions that make them accessible to children knowledge about the history of black people, their participation in the formation of the Brazilian people and the importance of respecting the ethnic and racial diversity. Therefore, we conducted a field research with teachers of a municipal day care center in the city of Campina Grande - PB. Our aim was to observe the practice of teachers in relation to ethnic and racial themes and the use of africanBrazilian literature in the classroom. After these observations, we conducted guideline moments and subsequently we produced a primer to leave in the institution as collateral for teaching in this area. Our study is a qualitative research, as it is a field, bibliographic and documental research. To support our research, we make use of studies carried out by FREIRE (2009), Gomes (2012), HALL (2006), SEVERINO (2007), Santos (2011), ZILBERMAN (2008) among others. We finished our work reiterating the importance of the use of african-Brazilian literature in early childhood education because, through it, the teacher can provide students access to knowledge regarding the ethnic and racial diversity and, thus, contribute to identity formation and criticism of children.
