: A qualitive thesis about the portrayal of women and men in the Swedish court system

Persmo, Elin January 2019 (has links)
This sociological thesis has focus om men´s violence against women, both general and domestic. My aim is to examine how the Swedish court system portrays women as victims and men as offenders in cases with men´s violence against women. I also have a special focus on the perspective of the construction of gender. I executed the thesis by using two qualitive methods; thematic content analysis and observations. The empirical material consisted mainly of court case documents but also of the field notes I took during the observations of two court hearings. My theoretical framework consists of the gender system by Yvonne Hirdman (2003) which mainly describes the different societal positions of power men and women possess and what consequences it has. I’ve also used a victim discourse which examines how victims are expected to act, and react, in connection to be a victim of crime. The thesis showed that the court system in my material maintains stereotypical gender norms regarding the theory of the gender system. It showed considerations based on men´s superior positions and women´s subordinate positions according to the same system. It also showed that the female victims are expected to react according to what the court system see suitable; which in my analyzed cases meant a display of the correct feelings. If the correct feelings were not present, it could affect the outcome of the trial.

Våld i nära relationer : Sjuksköterskors beredskap och agerande vid mötet med våldsutsatta kvinnor / Intimate partner violence : Nurses‟ preparedness and interaction when encountering abused women

Löfgren, Katarina, Nilsson, Moa January 2013 (has links)
Background: Intimate partner violence involves physical, psychological and/or sexual violence. It is viewed as a major health problem that mainly affects women and has physical, psychological and social consequences. The health care system has a great responsibility in identifying and helping subjected women and in preventing intimate partner violence, yet many women feel that they do not get adequate support and help from the health care services. Aim: To illuminate factors affecting nurses‟ preparedness for and interaction with women who may be or are subjected to intimate partner violence. Method: General literature review with analysis and synthesis of ten research articles with both qualitative and quantitative data. Results: Factors were partly related to the nurse in person; attitudes and conceptions about the nurses‟ professional role, the nurses‟ feelings, and personal and professional experiences of intimate partner violence. Other factors were related to the nurses‟ environment and conditions; education and practical skills, environment and organization. Conclusion: Enhanced knowledge, experience and more open-minded and understanding attitudes among nurses could be determining for the quality of care of women subjected to intimate partner violence. Clinical significance: Education about intimate partner violence could be developed, attitudes discussed and guidelines implemented in a more explicit manner in healthcare.

Våldsutsatta kvinnors upplevelser av bemötande i vården : En litteraturöversikt / Abused women's experiences of treatment in healthcare : A literature review

Bredberg Neuman, Michelle, Lindberg Tingström, Andrea January 2021 (has links)
Background: Gender-based violence against women is a globally increasing and ongoing public health problem that poses a threat against women’s lives and safety. Both clinical and epidemiological studies suggest that intimate partner violence is associated with major negative health effects and is also listed as the most common reason for ill health amongst women. In general, the healthcare system plays a crucial role in the treatment of abused women as the given treatment will have a profound impact upon a woman's ability for rehabilitation to regain health. Aim:The purpose of this literature review was to research abused women's experiences of treatment in healthcare. Method:The authors completed a literature review with qualitative articles. Results:The result suggests that a majority of abused women experienced inadequate treatment by nurses in the healthcare system which led to a feeling of lack of control and autonomy. Overall, this suggests a negative relationship between healthcare professionals and patients; where female patients recall a general lack of knowledge amongst nurses concerning ‘intimate partner violence’. Nurses should, in the treatment of abused women, be understanding, supportive, empathic, trust-giving and non- judgmental. To support women in speaking about endured violence, it is essential for these patients to experience a safe environment where healthcare staff provide an adequate reception with satisfactory patient communication.  Conclusion:The result of the given litteratur review confirm that a majority of abused women experience inadequate treatment from nurses within the healthcare system. Overall, this was primarily due to the nurses’ general lack of knowledge about intimate partner violence and was observed by the abused women of the given treatment. In addition, abused women in the study recall nurses’ personal values and norms as a contributing factor that affected their professional work and patient treatment.

“We own this question together” : A qualitative study on how the strategic work in two municipalities in southern Sweden work with men’s violence against women.

Sjöö Idbrant, Adam, Skog, Matilda January 2020 (has links)
This study aims to explain and create an understanding on how two municipalities in southern Sweden work strategic with the question regarding men´s violence against women. The purpose is to answer three research questions that analyses the organisations and the cooperation within itself but also with other actors. The method that this study uses is qualitative because of the need of detailed answers and supports to answer the research question and fulfil the purpose of this study. The empirical material was collected through seven semi-structured interviews. The study is focused on improvement, what the organisations can do better and is outlined through organisational and cooperative theory. The study also outline the empirical material collected through a SWOT-analysis.   The result of the study suggests that knowledge and competence are solely important working with this question and should be broad represented throughout the organisation. Therefore are these factors some components that highlight the study. Also the cooperation within the organisation and external collaboration considered being of great importance. Lastly, the result gives an understanding on how important it is that decision-makers and people in position of power prioritize men´s violence against women and view it as a societal problem.

Koverberg, Wilma, Widmark, Moa January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this study is to examine how the problem of ‘men's violence against women’ is represented and defined within the framework of parliamentary work in Sweden. With a poststructural approach the method of choice is a discourse analysis, in particular Carol Bacchi´s approach ’What´s the problem represented to be?’. The fundamental idea of this method is that the suggested solution to a problem indicates what one thinks needs to change, and thereby what the ‘problem’ is. In accordance with this method, we have analyzed eleven political documents (motions) which underlie further legalization and decision making, authoredbetween 2017-2022. All the selected political documents include solutions to the problem of men’s violence against women, domestic violence and/or honor related violence. Previous research has shown that the political debate has a significant impact on how a phenomenon is understood. Therefore, each epoch has a certain way of representing and defining a problem. In this study, four problem representations were identified: ‘lack of support’, ‘the legal system’,‘lack of knowledge’ and ‘social norms’. Together these themes represent how contemporary society comprehends the problem of men's violence against women. Acknowledging this is ofimportance because the problem representation provides a framework of action – for society, as well as the individual.

Kindstrand, Emelie, Bramme, Sara January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to investigate how therapists and volunteers find that men who exposed women to violence in close relationships describe and explain their experiences as violence practitioners and how these men describes violence in relation to their image of masculinity. Furthermore, the purpose is to investigate how respondents are affected by the stories of men. The study is based on five qualitative interviews, where an interview guide is used to structure the data collection. The results are analyzed based on three different themes; men's ways of describing and telling about violence, men's image of masculinity and how respondents were influenced by men's stories. Theories that have been used in this study is theories of mirror self, the normalization process of violence for men and cognitive dissonance. The result of this study suggests that men use narrative strategies to mitigate and explain their violence in close relationships. Respondents experience feelings like powerlessness and frustration in conversations with men who do not want to take responsibility for their actions.

Coronapandemins mörka sida : En kvalitativ studie av socialsekreterares upplevelser av hur coronapandemin kan påverka våld mot barn / A qualitative study of social workers’ experience regarding how Covid-19 pandemic can affect violence against children

Dulfo, Krizzylita Rose, Björk, Emma January 2021 (has links)
The aim of the study was to find out social workers' experiences of how the corona pandemic contributed to domestic violence, as well as how they worked against it under the prevailing circumstances. It was a qualitative study with a semi-structured interview as a data collection method. Eight social secretaries were interviewed, and the collected data was analyzed through a thematic analysis. The theoretical frameworks applied in the analysis in this study were intersectionality and systems theory. Results showed that reports of concern had increased since the outbreak of the corona pandemic with a clarity that the reports had been violence related. Results also showed that the implementation of assessments and investigations carried out by the social services was limited due to restrictions. With a systematic theoretical framework, it could be concluded that the corona pandemic was a highly relevant contributing factor to family-related violence.

”Du får skylla dig själv!” : - en netnografisk studie om informellt hjälpsökande på internet vid våld i nära relation / “You have yourself to blame!” : - a netnographic study on informal helpseeking on the internet in intimate partner violence

Peereboom, Mikaela, Barrdahl, Maja January 2023 (has links)
Intimate partner violence is one of the most common forms of violence againstwomen and is a widespread social problem that affects women among allsocioeconomic, religious and cultural groups. It is the social services responsibilityto meet these women and to especially consider the well-being of women who havebeen exposed to violence or abuse by a partner. Research within the field shows thatthere are several reasons why it may be difficult for abused women to break therelationship with the abuser. One reason is the feelings of guilt and shame thatcommonly submerge in an abusive relationship. Research suggests that women whohave been victims to domestic abuse may need informal support before they seekfurther support from professionals. How this first uncovering of the violence isreceived may be crucial to the woman's further actions and reasoning about hersituation. In today's society we live a big part of our lives online where we interactwith each other on a daily basis. Several people turn to digital platforms to receiveadvice and support for their real issues when they may feel like they can't turn topeople around them in real life. These digital platforms have been seen gettingincreasingly used by survivors of intimate partner violence to share theirexperiences as well as seek support and advice. This study is a netnographic study about women exposed to intimate partnerviolence and their help seeking behaviors on the Swedish online forums Flashbackand Familjeliv. The aim of this study is to explore the responses these women getwhen they seek support and advice about their situation online. The results of thisstudy shows that women who seek support online receive a wide range of responseswhere we could identify stigmatizing as well as destigmatizing elements. Thestigmatizing responses consisted mainly of victim blaming where the woman wastold she had herself to blame whereas the destigmatizing responses consisted ofemotional support and practical advice.

Ivansson, Alva, Svanström, Moa January 2024 (has links)
