A dissertation submitted to the Faculty of Arts, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in Engiish. / This dissertation grapples With the activity of critical production. It answers not to an interpretation which would constitute the writer within the institutionalised category of effect and object of knowledge, but rather to an explosion, a proliferation of critical paths at the limit of the doxa: a veritable labyrinth. The terms of my title open up a methodological field within which I enact the play of associations, contiguities, relations among four texts: The Name of the Rose, lost. in the Funhouse, The Naked Lunch and 'The library of Babel'. The terms themselves disseminate across the text argument in citations, references, echoes. The labyrinth is used throughout as a trope which deconstructs its own performance within the text. Legends are myths, inscriptions on maps, legenda or "things for reading" (through an etymological supplement), "lesser libraries." Barthes cites the biblical words of the man possessed by demons: "My name is Legion for we are many" and demonstrates how the demonlacal plural brings with it fundamental changes in reading strategies. The notion of the demoniacal plural is used to problernatlse the debates around subjectivity. The belief in unitary, rational selfhood is debunked and the subject is Seen to be plural, irreducible, heterogenous. Subjectivity is further problernatlsed by demonstrating the slippage among the labyrinthine multiplicity of discursive positions occupied by readers: the monoloqlcal models of meaning developed from each reading position constantly shift. The discursive position recuperated and sanctioned by the Law or the institution is impossible to maintain as Subjects are seduced by language into confrontation with other positions through their continuous renarnings of each other. Subjectivity and discursive positioning form .their own labyrinthine intentionality. The argument then moves towards an exploration of the current calculation of the subject for the writer. (Distinctions between author and critic begin to collapse here since meaning is shown to be governed by neither). The reading\writing subject strolls in a vast labyrinth of text - a postmodern flaneur who frustrates the work of exegesis by enacting the play of the signifier. The line traced by this hypothetical traveller does not engender a definitive theoretical or discursive map of the domain but rather a contingent and highly provisional, backward turning path. The demoniacal plural is also used to problematise notions of an original and innovative critical voice which "speaks" the dissertation. The logic regulating the argument is the already-written, The dissertation plavs with each text (both critical texts and fictions) looking for a practice which reproduces them but in another place. My imagined (ideal?) reader wmtreat the argument as that Which. lt was not simply meant to be,will. follow.the argument and be seduced by it: an echoing. structure with dead ends, wrong turns, false entrances fictitious exits; misleading threads and deceptive lines, / AC 2018

中國大陸進行改革開放以來，已成為外資的主要投資地區，在上海證券交易所及深圳證券交易所掛牌的股票市值，近年來於世界交易所組織的排名有顯著的上升。而中國大陸在2010年3月31日推出的有價證券融資融券制度（又稱信用交易），雖然在先進的證券市場中，融資融券係成熟的交易制度，但在中國大陸推出後卻產生交易量極不活絡、無券可融、控管過嚴等問題。 本文嘗試著先行介紹融資融券交易的沿革、定義、美國及台灣管理的模式，進而剖析探討中國大陸融資融券交易的開戶條件、證券商資格標準、有價證券得為融資融券標準、保證金帳戶制度、擬籌設的證券金融公司制度、風險管理制度、賣空監管制度、融資融券之法律關係等，作為本文之主軸。 全文共分五章，除於第一章說明本文之研究動機與目的、研究範圍與內容外，分別介紹證券市場信用交易之概述、中國大陸信用交易法令規範、融資融券交易之法律行為及實務作業探討，作為第二章至第四章之內容，最後於第五章提出檢討及建議，俾作為中國大陸融資融券交易法制之研究。 / Using the comparative law approach and the economics ananysis of law approach, this thesis studied securities law of margin trading in Mainland China. The margin trading mechanism was established in the Article 142 Securities Act 2005, and began on 31st Jan. 2010. This thesis first studied the definition, history and structure of margin trading. Then, by deploying economic analysis of law approach, it studied the margin trading rules of U.S, Taiwan and Mainland China in a comparatively way. Material issues were researched in the thesis: cash account, margin account, initial margin requirements, minimum maintenance requirements, securities lending, securities financing corporations, segregation of customer’s securities, short sale regulations, and guarantees. Based on above, this thesis reviewed the margin trading rules in Mainland China through legal, administrative, and market aspects. Finally, we proposed reform suggestions of the margin trading rules in Mainland China.

Thus far, the novel Naked Lunch has not been discussed from the aspect of critical animal studies, nor has it been connected to the theories of Michel Foucault. This essay however, argues that these diverse fields could be connected through the use of the simians that are frequently employed in Naked Lunch. By analyzing the metaphorical role of the simian, the structure of the normalization process can be revealed. Therefore the simian’s metaphorical role becomes to reveal the different stages character goes through in that process and ultimately revealing its negative effects. They also prove to employ the role of abnormality which normalization wants to subtract from the human in order to render her docile. By applying the power mechanisms such as signals, the concept of panopticism and the theory of the docile body to specific passages where simians are highly prominent, the claim of this paper can be demonstrated. Besides Foucault, the theories of Robin Lydenberg are also used consistently throughout the essay due to her valuable observations such as the struggle between body and mind.

V klasické fyzice m·že být ustavena statická rovnováha v soustavě, která obsahuje extrémně nabité zdroje gravitačního a elektromagnetického pole. Udivujícím faktem je, že tato situace m·že nastat i pro černé díry v relativis- tické fyzice. Tato práce vyšetřuje speciální případ nekonečně dlouhé, extrémně nabité struny, zkoumá geometrii prostoročasu, elektrogeodetiky, vlastnosti zdroje a srovnává řešení se situací v klasické fyzice. Dále se zabýváme analogickou situací v dynamickém prostoročase s kosmologickou konstantou, a řešení porovnáváme s jeho statickou verzí. Nakonec zkoumáme periodické řešení Laplaceovy rovnice, které odpovídá nekonečně mnoha extremálním bodovým zdroj·m rozloženým v pravidelném rozestupu podél přímky. Vyšetřujeme vlastnosti elektrostatického potenciálu a ukazujeme, že v limitě velké vzdálenosti od osy tvořené zdroji pře- chází toto řešení v nabitou strunu. 1

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / O fenômeno do colapso gravitacional e a estrutura de estrelas relativísticas são de grande importância em astrofísica desde a formulação da relatividade geral. Alguns trabalhos mais recentes revelam avanços importantes em nosso entendimento da formação de estruturas como buracos negros e singularidades nuas e do comportamento de fluidos exóticos tais como matéria e energia escura, incluindo aqui os fluidos fantasmas. A complexidade do estudo do colapso gravitacional está relacionada à existência de poucas soluções analíticas disponíveis para este fim. Recentemente, soluções auto-similares das equações de campo de Einstein têm atraído grande atenção, não somente pela possibilidade de serem estudadas analiticamente, simplificando o problema, mas também por sua relevância em astrofísica. Neste trabalho, estudamos o colapso gravitacional do fluido anisotrópico com auto-similaridade do segundo e primeiro tipos em espaços-tempos (2 + 1)-dimensionais, com simetria circular. Impondo as equações de estado pr = 0 e pθ = ωρ, onde ρ determina a densidade de energia e pr, pθ as pressões nas direções radial e tangencial do fluido, mostramos que, para soluções com auto-similaridade do segundo tipo, há duas distintas famílias. Para uma delas, as únicas soluções são as que representam fluido de poeira. Todas as soluções para as equações de campo de Einstein são encontradas e suas propriedades locais e globais são estudadas em detalhes. Algumas delas podem ser interpretadas como um processo de colapso gravitacional, em que singularidades nuas e buracos negros são formados. Para a outra família de soluções, temos um modelo cosmológico, com expansão acelerada, que começa em uma singularidade inicial (t = 0), com todas as condições de energia satisfeitas. Nosso propósito foi investigar o papel da não-homogeneidade na aceleração do fluido. Na intenção de estudar as soluções com auto-similaridade do primeiro tipo, mostramos que existe uma solução que representa um processo de colapso gravitacional, resultando em uma estrutura final de buraco negro ou singularidade nua, que podem ser constituídos de um fluido bem comportado ou fantasma.

Background: A variety of microbial communities exist throughout the human and animal body. Genetics, environmental factors and long-term dietary habit contribute to shaping the composition of the gut microbiota. For this reason the study of the gut microbiota of a mammal exhibiting an extraordinary life span is of great importance. The naked mole-rat (Heterocephalus glaber) is a eusocial mammal known for its longevity and cancer resistance. Methods: Here we analyzed its gut microbiota by cultivating the bacteria under aerobic and anaerobic conditions and identifying their species by mass spectrometry. Results: Altogether, 29 species of microbes were identified, predominantly belonging to Firmicutes, and Bacteroidetes. The most frequent species were Bacillus megaterium (45.2 %), followed by Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron (19.4 %), Bacteroides ovatus, Staphylococcus sciuri and Paenibacillus spp., each with a frequency of 16.1 %. Conclusion: Overall, the gut of the naked mole-rat is colonized by diverse, but low numbers of cultivable microbes compared with humans and mice. The primary food plants of the rodents are rich in polyphenols and related compounds, possessing anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative as well as anti-cancer activity which may contribute to their exceptionally healthy life.

The research looks into the absorption of the nude subject, the gestures that communicate this absorption, and the domestic space as a stage for the presentation of these gestures. This work investigates a tension between the theatrical and the natural as represented by images.
