Ce document vise à analyser le récit de l'écrivain João Gilberto Noll, Hotel Atlâtico (1989), et son adaptation cinématographique (2009) créée par la réalisatrice Suzana Amaral. L'étude comparative tient compte de l'hypothèse que le processus de traduction est, premièrement, une interprétation. Ainsi, la traduction du texte littéraire à travers le langage visuel est, en fait, une lecture critique de la réalisatrice, la quelle présente sa compréhension pour le livre. C'est à partir de ces hypothèses qu'on examinera les deux textes. Pendant l'étude, on approchera les choix faits par Amaral dans son processus de traduction intersémiotique, avec l'hypothèse que la réalisatrice situe la production littéraire de Noll dans son ensemble, en radicalisant les éléments présents dans le texte verbal. De cette manière, elle rompe radicalement avec les conventions de structure filmique traditionnelle, en situant son texte dans la conception de "traduction créative", élaborée par Haroldo de Campos. Ainsi, Suzana Amaral présente son interprétation du livre à travers sa propre création - le film Hotel Atlântico. / O presente trabalho pretende analisar a narrativa Hotel Atlântico (1989), de João Gilberto Noll, e sua adaptação cinematográfica (2009) realizada pela cineasta Suzana Amaral. O estudo comparativo leva em consideração a premissa de que o processo tradutório é primeiramente interpretação. Portanto, a cineasta, ao "transcriar" o texto literário por meio da linguagem visual, o que faz é leitura crítica do texto verbal, apresentando seu entendimento para o livro. É a partir desses pressupostos que serão analisados os dois textos em estudo. Na investigação, serão abordadas as escolhas feitas pela cineasta no seu processo de tradução intersemiótica, tendo a hipótese de que a diretora, ao considerar a produção literária de Noll como um todo, radicaliza os elementos presentes no texto verbal, rompendo radicalmente com as convenções da estrutura fílmica tradicional, inserindo, assim, seu texto no que Haroldo de Campos denomina como "tradução criativa". Requirements for a zero-waste zone : Exercising zero-waste within an area, and an example of product design according to zero-waste / Krav för en zero-waste zon

Waste is a problem that is more relevant now, in the 21st century, than ever before. Waste management is becoming more crucial with more people moving into cities, which demands a fast lifestyle and leading to massive amounts of waste. Managing all the generated municipal solid waste is putting huge amounts of pressure on the infrastructure.  Zero-waste is a topic that has gained popularity as environmental issues have gained attention. The topic has only been around since the late 1990s and without an official governing body the meaning of the topic is diffuse.  The research objectives of this study are to clarify the topic of zero-waste in a way so that it could be exercised within a specified area, as well as bringing forth a concept on how a recycling station within the area could be designed, aligning with the ideas originating from the topic. To achieve these objectives, this study did a literary study on the topic and qualitative research to gain as much understanding over the state of the topic today.  Results from the research conducted during this study concluded that the topic of zero-waste is divided into three different areas, personal, municipal, and business. All areas having their challenges to overcome to achieve zero-waste according to the accepted definitions of the topic. The results derived from the literary study and the interviews concluded into 3 goals, aligning with the principles of zero- waste, specific for an organization or business that wants to define a set physical area as a zero-waste zone. Clarity of waste management, setting a standard of reuse and recycling and monitoring waste, and work towards prevention.  Also, a concept for a recycling station was developed aligning with ideas brought up on the topic to be placed within an area exercising zero-waste. / Avfall är ett problem som är mer relevant nu, på 2000-talet, än någonsin tidigare. Avfallshantering blir allt viktigare med fler människor som flyttar till städer som kräver en snabb livsstil och leder till enorma mängder avfall. Att hantera allt genererat kommunalt fast avfall sätter enorma belastningar på infrastrukturen.Zero-waste (översatt: Noll-avfall) är ett ämne som har blivit populärt eftersom miljöfrågor har fått uppmärksamhet. Ämnet har bara funnits sedan slutet av 1990-talet och utan ett officiellt styrande organ är innebörden av ämnet diffust.  Forskningsmålen för denna studie är att klargöra ämnet zero-waste på ett sätt så att det kan utövas inom ett specifikt område, samt att ta fram ett koncept om hur en återvinningsstation inom området kan utformas i linje med idéer som kommer från ämnet. För att uppnå dessa mål gjorde denna studie en litterär studie om ämnet och kvalitativ forskning för att få så mycket förståelse för ämnets tillstånd idag.  Resultat från forskningen som genomfördes under denna studie drog slutsatsen att ämnet zero-waste är indelat i tre olika områden, personligt, kommunalt och företagande. Med alla områden som har sina egna utmaningar att övervinna för att uppnå nollavfall enligt de accepterade definitionerna av ämnet. Resultaten från litteraturstudien och intervjuerna avslutades också i tre mål, i linje med principerna om nollavfall, specifikt för en organisation eller ett företag som vill definiera ett visst fysiskt område som en zero-waste zon.  Mål 1: Ha ett tydligt sätt för både användare och servicearbetare på hur avfall hanteras.  Mål 2: Gör återanvändning och återvinning till standarden.  Mål 3: Övervaka aktivt avfallstillströmningen och vidta åtgärder för att minimera det.  Dessutom togs ett koncept fram för en återvinningsstation för att placeras inom ett område som utövar zero-waste utifrån de principer som tagits upp om ämnet.

O conceito imagem-tempo foi engendrado pelo filósofo francês para pensar o cinema moderno, que se perfaz num regime de imagens que rompe com a narratividade clássica, com a percepção baseada no esquema sensório-motor. Neste trabalho, no entanto, o conceito é pensado em relação à obra literária de João Gilberto Noll, que guarda forte relação com o cinema moderno e se nos apresenta em fragmentada tessitura imagética, tendendo ao esvaziamento discursivo. Assim, tendo como ponto de reflexão a obra de Noll, buscamos discutir como a imagem-tempo e o silêncio compõem a obra do escritor. Após apresentação e discussão do conceito de imagem-tempo e de silêncio, procedemos a uma leitura de pontos significativos da obra ficcional de Noll, ensaiando uma relação entre cinema, literatura e outras artes no que concerne basicamente à produção de imagens numa determinada forma narrativa, bem como às implicações dessas formas para o pensamento. After presentation and discussion of the concept of time-image and silence, we proceeded to a reading of significant points in the fictional works of Noll, rehearsing a relationship between cinema, literature and other arts in termsprimarily for the production of images in a particular narrative form and also the implications of these forms of thought. For reasons of economic strategy for the formation of a crop of significant production of the writer, his works directly considered in this work are Hotel Atlântico (1989) and O Quieto Animal da Esquina (1991). Thermodynamically consistent modeling and simulation of multiphase flows

Multiphase flow is a familiar phenomenon from daily life and occupies an important role in physics, engineering, and medicine. The understanding of multiphase flows relies largely on the theory of interfaces, which is not well understood in many cases. To date, the Navier-Stokes-Korteweg equations and the Cahn-Hilliard equation have represented two major branches of phase-field modeling. The Navier-Stokes-Korteweg equations describe a single component fluid material with multiple states of matter, e.g., water and water vapor; the Cahn-Hilliard type models describe multi-component materials with immiscible interfaces, e.g., air and water. In this dissertation, a unified multiphase fluid modeling framework is developed based on rigorous mathematical and thermodynamic principles. This framework does not assume any ad hoc modeling procedures and is capable of formulating meaningful new models with an arbitrary number of different types of interfaces. In addition to the modeling, novel numerical technologies are developed in this dissertation focusing on the Navier-Stokes-Korteweg equations. First, the notion of entropy variables is properly generalized to the functional setting, which results in an entropy-dissipative semi-discrete formulation. Second, a family of quadrature rules is developed and applied to generate fully discrete schemes. The resulting schemes are featured with two main properties: they are provably dissipative in entropy and second-order accurate in time. In the presence of complex geometries and high-order differential terms, isogeometric analysis is invoked to provide accurate representations of computational geometries and robust numerical tools. A novel periodic transformation operator technology is also developed within the isogeometric context. It significantly simplifies the procedure of the strong imposition of periodic boundary conditions. These attributes make the proposed technologies an ideal candidate for credible numerical simulation of multiphase flows. A general-purpose parallel computing software, named PERIGEE, is developed in this work to provide an implementation framework for the above numerical methods. A comprehensive set of numerical examples has been studied to corroborate the aforementioned theories. Additionally, a variety of application examples have been investigated, culminating with the boiling simulation. Importantly, the boiling model overcomes several challenges for traditional boiling models, owing to its thermodynamically consistent nature. The numerical results indicate the promising potential of the proposed methodology for a wide range of multiphase flow problems. / text

Desse modo, o objetivo desta tese é compreender e interpretar os traços das socialidades em escrituras literárias, ou seja, acompanhar trajetórias de alteridades presentes nas relações que marcam a sociedade, a partir de textos literários. A hipótese apresentada é que os rastros da socialidades estão presentes nessas narrativas literárias contemporâneas. Diante de uma confluência de gêneros e formas literárias estão buscas por exprimir uma experiência social. Na faina incessante da literatura, está um dos caminhos para uma arqueologia dessa era de incertezas, como ao mesmo tempo é um suporte, ainda que efêmero diante de um mundo que ainda não aprendemos a olhar. A partir de uma visão arqueológica do saber, este trabalho põe em diálogo os saberes das ciências sociais e o da literatura visando compreender os movimentos da vida social ou as narrativas que exprimem os contornos dessas socialidades. Aproprio-me das abordagens sobre a arqueologia dos saberes, tão pertinentes a Michel Foucault, etnografia ficcional, as concepções de Michel Maffesoli sobre a socialidade contemporânea, e reflexões sobre narrativas e escrituras literárias para traçar as leituras sobre aspectos que marcam a vida social atual nos textos dos escritores brasileiros João Gilberto Noll (Porto Alegre-RS) e de Luiz Ruffato (Cataguases-MG). Sendo assim, numa possível "etnografia ficcional" busco evidenciar que esses textos literários trazem os embates da experiência social contemporânea, neles as muitas vozes de alteridades em contraponto se tornam presentes num entrecruzamento de temporalidades, nomadismos, nas marcas de uma "geografia rarefeita das cidades", numa fúria do corpo, nos esquecimentos da memória social nas arenas de alteridades que se configuram na sociedade atual. Desse modo, nas narrativas literárias da socialidade contemporânea estão "desmontes" distintos da escritura literária e neles olhares nômades, migrantes, deslocados, "desestabilizadores da forma e do olhar", escritas que talvez, acompanhem, perpassem os embates do vivido. / Abstract: Facing the uncertainties that contemporarily permeate the Social Sciences, our gaze upon the world steps on uncertain and unwarranted human soil. Daring to see through our own lenses, it is inevitable to question the conceptual and methodological tracks that guide us through this path. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to understand and interpret traces of socialities in literary writings. That is, starting from literary texts, to follow the trajectories of alterities present in social relations that mark society. The hypothesis presented here is that the traces of socialities are present in these contemporary literary narratives, and that under a confluence of literary genres and forms, there are quests to express particular social experiences. In the restless work of literature, lies one of the paths to an archeology of this era of uncertainty - a support, even tough ephemeral, in face of a world that we have not yet learned how to look upon. Through an archeological view of knowledge, this work puts in dialogue the knowledges of social sciences and literature, aiming to understand the movements of social life or the narratives that express the outlines of these socialities. I base myself in the approaches of the archeology of knowledge, so dear to Michel Foucault, fictional ethnography, the Michel Maffesoli's conceptions about contemporary sociality, and the reflections on narratives and literary writings, in order to outline the readings about aspects that marks the today's social life in the texts of the brazilian writers João Gilberto Noll (Porto Alegre-RS) and Luiz Ruffato (Cataguases-MG). Therefore, in a possible "fictional ethnography", I try to show that these literary texts raise the struggles of contemporary social experience. Through them, the multiple voices of counterpoint alterities become present in a crossing of temporalities, nomadisms, in the marks of a "thin geography of the cities", in a rage of the body, in the oblivion of the social memory in the arenas of alterities that emerge in present society. Therefore, in the literary narratives of the contemporary sociality are distinct "dismounts" of the literary writing, filled with nomad, migrant, dislodged viewpoints. Implementering av NollCO2-certifiering : En fallstudie av en nybyggnation för att identifiera hur netto-noll balans kan uppnås / Implementaion of NollCO2-certification : A case study of a new construction to identify how net-zero balance can be reached

This project aims to examine the demands of the new NollCO2-certification from a practicalpoint of view and to identify what it would mean for a real estate company to certify newconstructions according to NollCO2. Through investigation of a case-study object, a newbuilding at ICA Fastigheter, both climate impact and possible climate compensation measuresare analyzed in order to investigate how net-zero balance can be reached by 2045. By executing life cycle assessments and sensitivity analyses, both performed using MicrosoftExcel, the carbon footprint of the case-study building is evaluated within the NollCO2-certification framework. The project examines climate compensation measures related to bothenergy efficiency measures, and grid delivered renewable electricity. In the investigation,climate compensation measures are put in relation to both the NollCO2-framwork and ongoingsustainability work at ICA Fastigheter. The results show that there are many possibilities to decrease a building’s carbon footprint. Thegreatest decrease is retrieved by choosing materials with less carbon emissions such as greenconcrete or fiberglass insulation. In comparison to the case-study building’s original 512 tonsCO2eq, effective energy usage supplied from a green energy source can reduce the climateimpact further to approximately 415 tons CO2eq. To reach net-zero balance, offsite energyproduction can be installed. A solar park would need to produce 505 – 657 MWh which woulddemand approximately 15 000 - 20 000 square meters and cost 3.8 – 4.7 million Swedishcrowns. If ICA Fastigheter instead chooses to invest in wind power, the energy productionneeded would be 486 – 634 MWh, approximately 3% of the total production of an averagewindmill in Sweden. By investing in efficiency measures in existing buildings net-zero balancewould be reached with the expected expenses being a minimum of 7.6 million Swedish crowns. When analyzing the result of this case-study it is evident that an implementation of the NollCO2-certification is possible for ICA Fastigheter. However as of now, there are too many estimatesfor the result to be reliable. When taking ICA Fastigheter’s current long-term plans into accountit is evident that the most suitable climate compensation measure is to develop their energyefficiency projects in existing buildings. Efforts to increase energy efficiency in the real estateportfolio currently has a functioning workflow but must be improved to work as a sufficientclimate compensation measure when the number of new constructions aiming for the NollCO2-certification increases.

Poems of nature or local color in their own country will hold their interest when material from more distant points seems dull and uninteresting. Through my teaching I have become interested in the poetry of the Southwest and have enjoyed reading the poetry and knowing the poets through personal interview or correspondence.

Esta é uma tese que salienta a qualidade literária desses dois romances sob a proposta de uma leitura baseada em categorias, desenvolvidas por vários teóricos, como o grotesco, o nojo, a abjeção, o estranho e o sublime. Para atingir este objetivo, levo em conta a crise da beleza e reviso tal conceito segundo a perspectiva de filósofos da Antiga Grécia, a Idade Média, o Iluminismo e século XX. Trata-se de uma proposta de estudo poiético que, a partir do nojento, torna visível a importância do sentido fisionômico na percepção corporal que facilita aos espectadores a experimentação de emoções diante de obras de arte: o “simples” prazer corporal que pode se tornar prazer reflexivo, estético. Com este processo da experiência estética (aisthesis, poiesis, katharsis) através da poiética escatológica, redimensiono o feio nestes romances de Palahniuk e de Noll, na obra de arte, apresentando-o como uma categoria estética que vai além de ser simplesmente o oposto do belo, e se erige como o pináculo de outro cânone. / It is a thesis that highlights the literary quality of the two novels mentioned above. This is to be done through a proposal of reading, based on categories worked by some theoreticians, such as the grotesque, disgust, abjection, the uncanny and the sublime. To achieve this goal, I focus on the crisis of beauty, studying this concept from the perspective of Ancient Greek philosophers, the Middle Ages, the Enlightenment and 20th Century. Furthermore, this deals with a proposal of poetics study that, from the “disgust” perspective, emphasizes the importance of physiognomic sense in the bodily perception, which facilitates spectators to experience emotions about the artwork: the "simple" bodily pleasure becomes “reflective” and “aesthetic” pleasure. Within this process of aesthetic experience (aisthesis, poiesis, katharsis), and through the eschatological poietics, I point out (or address) the ugly of these novels of Palahniuk and Noll, as well as the artwork, presenting it as an aesthetic category that ends to be simply the opposite of beauty and emerges as the pinnacle of another canon. / Es una tesis que resalta la calidad literaria de estas dos novelas, a partir de la propuesta de una lectura basada en categorías, trabajadas por varios teóricos, como lo grotesco, el asco, la abyección, lo siniestro y lo sublime. Para lograr este objetivo, tengo en cuenta la crisis de la belleza y reviso este concepto desde la perspectiva de filósofos de la Antigua Grecia, la Edad Media, la Ilustración y el siglo XX. Se trata de una propuesta de estudio poiético que, a partir de lo asqueroso, destaca la importancia del sentido fisionómico en la percepción corporal que facilita a los espectadores la experimentación de emociones frente a la obra de arte: el “simple” placer corporal que se convierte en placer reflexivo, estético. Con este proceso de experiencia estética (aisthesis, poiesis, katharsis), a través de la poiética escatológica, redimensiono lo feo en estas novelas de Palahniuk y de Noll, en la obra de arte, presentándolo como una categoría estética que deja de ser simplemente lo opuesto a lo bello y se erige como el pináculo de otro canon.

CURRIE, 1987; RUBENSTEIN, 1994; CALABRESE, 1999, p.84-90) em contos publicados nos livros Great Dream of Heaven (2002), do autor norte-americano Sam Shepard, e Mínimos, múltiplos, comuns (2003), do escritor brasileiro João Gilberto Noll. Com base em teorias associadas ao pós-modernismo (HASSAN, 1987; McHALE, 1987; JAMESON, 1991; VATTIMO, 2007), analisamos os procedimentos artístico-formais mobilizados pelos escritores como, por exemplo, usos criativos de processos paratáticos, indeterminações narrativas, desordens espaçotemporais e dissociações de imagens e ideias. As análises empreendidas orientam-se no sentido de demonstrar como as narrativas atípicas de Noll e Shepard instalam e subvertem expectativas e convenções do gênero conto. Além disso, esse estudo objetiva não apenas refletir sobre uma possível emergência do conto pós-moderno, mas também examinar como as estratégias narrativas mobilizadas pelos autores sugerem a fragmentação e a multiplicação de identidades (cf. HALL, 1987, 1992; BAUMAN, 2004) do sujeito ficcional no âmbito da contemporaneidade. / This dissertation presents a study of narrative techniques such as indeterminacy (cf. ECO, 1969; HASSAN, 1987) and fragmentation (cf. CURRIE, 1987; RUBENSTEIN, 1994; CALABRESE, 1999, p.84-90) in short stories published in the books Great Dream of Heaven (2002), by the American author Sam Shepard, and Mínimos, múltiplos, comuns (2003), by the Brazilian writer João Gilberto Noll. Based on theories on postmodernism (HASSAN, 1987; McHALE, 1987; JAMESON, 1991; VATTIMO, 2007), this work analyzes artistic and formal procedures employed by the authors such as, for instance, their creative use of paratatic processes, narrative indeterminacies, space-time disorders, and dissociations of images and ideas. These analyses aim at showing how the atypical narratives of Noll and Shepard both use and subvert expectancies and conventions of the short story as a genre. Besides, the objective of the present study is not only to reflect upon a possible emergence of postmodern short story, but also to examine how the narrative strategies deployed by the authors suggest fragmentation and multiplication of identities (cf. HALL, 1987, 1992; BAUMAN, 2004) of the fictional subject in the contemporary world.
