Τεχνικές εξατομικευμένης αναζήτησης στον παγκόσμιο ιστό / Techniques of personalized search in world wide web

Στη διπλωματική μας παραθέτουμε ένα μεγάλο κομμάτι βιβλιογραφίας σχετικής με Τεχνικές Εξατομικευμένης Αναζήτησης στον Παγκόσμιο Ιστό. Επίσης περιγράφονται αναλυτικά οι εφαρμογές που κατασκευάστηκαν στην διπλωματική μας και οι τεχνολογίες που χρησιμοποιήθηκαν για την υλοποίησή τους. Συγκεκριμένα κατασκευάστηκε ένα σύστημα εξατομίκευσης, το οποίο καταγράφει την συμπεριφορά ενός χρήστη και στην συνέχεια του δίνει την δυνατότητα να εξατομικεύσει τα αποτελέσματα μιας μηχανής αναζήτησης(Google) με βάση την προηγούμενη συμπεριφορά του. Υλοποιήθηκαν τρεις διαφορετικοί αλγόριθμοι(ένας αλγόριθμος που βασίζεται στις ακμές του γράφου, ένας αλγόριθμος πρόσθεσης εικονικών κόμβων και ένας εκτεταμένος αλγόριθμος πρόσθεσης εικονικών κόμβων), οι οποίοι με βάση την προηγούμενη συμπεριφορά του χρήστη κατασκευάζουν ένα γράφημα συμπεριφοράς για αυτόν, το οποίο χρησιμοποιούν στη συνέχεια για να εξατομικεύσουν τα αποτελέσματα μιας ερώτησης. Οι αλγόριθμοι αυτοί καλούνται από το χρήστη μέσω του συστήματος εξατομίκευσης για μια ερώτηση και ταξινομούν τα αποτελέσματα της ερώτησης σύμφωνα με την νέα σειρά που υποδεικνύει το γράφημα συμπεριφοράς που έχει κατασκευαστεί για τον συγκεκριμένο χρήστη. Στη συνέχεια δίνονται αναλυτικά παραδείγματα λειτουργίας για κάθε αλγόριθμο, που αποδεικνύουν τους θεωρητικούς υπολογισμούς. Τέλος παρατίθενται βασικά κομμάτια του κώδικα που δημιουργήθηκε για την υλοποίηση του συστήματος εξατομίκευσης. / In our diplomatic we mention a big piece of bibliography relative with Techniques of Personalized Search in the World Wide Web. Also we describe analytically the applications that were manufactured in our diplomatic and the technologies that were used for their implementation. In particular, we construct a personalization system, which records the behaviour of user and then gives him the possibility of personalizing the results of a search engine (Google) with base his previous behaviour. They constructed three different algorithms(an algorithm that based on the edges of the graph, an algorithm that add virtual nodes and an extensive algorithm that add virtual nodes), which with base the previous behaviour of user construct a graph, which they use then in order to personalize the results of the query. These algorithms are called by the user via the personalization system for a query and they categorize the results of query according to the new order that indicates the graph of behaviour that has been constructed for the particular user. Then they are given analytic examples for each algorithm, which proves the theoretical calculations. Finally, they mentioned basic pieces of code that were created for the construction of the personalization system.

Konflikter på gång och cykelbana. : Ett skadepreventivt perspektiv. / Conflicts on pedestrian and bicyclepaths : an injury prevention perspective

Att vistas på gång- och cykelbanor kan vara en situation som upplevs som otrygg av de oskyddade trafikanterna som delar på detta utrymme. Samexistens och hänsyn till medtrafikanter är av vikt för att minska konflikter och skador som uppstår i denna miljö. En anledning till konflikter mellan fotgängare och cyklister är den höga hastigheten som cyklister kan färdas i. Denna hastighet skapar otrygghet bland fotgängare samt hos de cyklister som färdas i ett långsammare tempo. Otryggheten, beteende hos de båda trafikantgrupperna samt hastigheten leder i vissa fall till konflikter med kollisioner och personskador som följd. Att separera gång- och cykeltrafiken minskar till viss del konflikterna mellan dessa två grupper, men konflikten mellan cyklister som färdas fort och de cyklister som färdas långsamt kvarstår samt att otryggheten till viss del kvarstår hos fotgängarna, speciellt i de fall separeringen enbart skett med färgmarkering. Andra orsaker till otrygghet och konflikter inom och mellan dessa grupper kan bland annat vara ljus och mörkerförhållanden, vägens underlag, tekniska fel på cykeln samt beteende hos trafikanterna. Fotgängare och cyklister drabbas hårt vid en olycka även med en annan oskyddad trafikant. Den upplevda känslan av otrygghet är större än den faktiska risken för att en olycka faktiskt skall inträffa. Kollisioner mellan fotgängare och cyklister på gång och cykelbanor är inget stort problem, statistiskt sett, men grundat på den upplevda oron och brist på trygghet i denna miljö får problemet större proportioner än det statistiska underlaget påvisar / Using the footpaths and cyclelanes may be a situation that is perceived as unsafe by the vulnerable road users who share this space. Coexisting and consideration for other road users is important to reduce conflicts and damages arising in this environment. One reason for conflicts between pedestrians and cyclists are the high speed at which cyclists can travel in. This speed creates insecurity among pedestrians and cyclists that chooses to move in a slower pace. Insecurity, behavior of the road user and the speed of the cyclist results in certain cases to conflicts with collisions and injuries as a result. Separating pedestrian and bicycletraffic decreases part of the conflicts between these two groups, but the conflict between cyclists who are traveling at high speed and the cyclists are traveling at a slow pace, persist and insecurity to some degree remains with the pedestrian, especially in cases separation occurred only with separation through a coloured centerline. Other causes of insecurity in a traffic environment and conflict within and between these groups may include how the roads are lit during the dark hours, darkness and sunflares, road surface, technical failure of the cycle and behavior of road users. Pedestrians and cyclists receive severe injuries even in an accident with another unprotected road user. The perceived sense of insecurity is greater than the actual risk of an accident actually occurring. Collisions of pedestrians and cyclists on footpaths and cyclelanes is rarely a problem, statistically, but based on the perceived fears, insecurity and lack of security in this environment, the problem may be of greater proportions than the statistical data reveals.

Urban congestion charging : road pricing as a traffic reduction measure / W. Heyns

Urban traffic congestion is recognised as a major problem by most people in world cities. However, the implementation of congestion reducing measures on a wide scale eludes most world cities suffering from traffic congestion, as many oppose the notion of road pricing and despite economists and transportation professionals having advocated its benefits for a number of decades. The effects of road pricing have attracted considerable attention from researchers examining its effects, as it is thought to hold the key in understanding and overcoming some inherent obstacles to implementation. Unfortunately, many of the attempts consider the effects in isolation and with hypothetical, idealised and analytical tools, sometimes loosing sight of the complexities of the problem. This research empirically investigates the effects of road pricing in London, and identifies factors, which may prove to sustain it as a traffic reduction instrument. The results indicate that an integrated approach has to be developed and implemented, based upon the recognition of local perceptions, concerns, aspirations and locally acceptable solutions, if the acceptance of road pricing is to be improved. The key to dealing with the effects of road pricing, is to encourage a concerted effort by various stakeholders developing strategies considering a range of differing initiatives, coordinating and managing them in the realm of the political-economic context in which they exist. / Thesis (M.Art. et Scien. Determining community attitudes and concerns with respect to the establishment of safer injection facilities in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside

Safer injection facilities (SIFs) provide a clean and supervised environment, thereby reducing health risks to drug users. Potential benefits include fewer overdoses, decreased rates of HIV, Hepatitis, and other blood-borne viruses, a reduction in open drug use, increased opportunities for health services and treatments, and cost savings to society. A pilot safer injection site is expected to open in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside in September 2003. This study assesses community attitudes and concerns with respect to SIFs. Focus groups with police officers, street nurses, and injection drug users in February and March 2003 revealed that they are supportive of the sites. Concerns related to the community impacts, external supports, administration, process, safety, and special populations (e.g. women, youth) were indicated. Special attention should be paid to the involvement of injection drug users in planning and programming, the inclusion of peer workers, the relationships between injection drug users, the wider population, and the police, and safety for marginalized populations. Recommendations to address concerns and ensure inclusive processes are provided.

This Master thesis presents a study of computer equipment support services providing company’s business processes, specifics of the ongoing communication between end-users and supporting engineers-consultants and presents review of some information systems designed to automate certain technical support activities. Core aim of this study is to alleviate the daily work of above mentioned consultants when supporting end-users to locate and resolve issues in owned computer equipment. This paper outlines requirements set for software which could be capable to support business processes of a company operating in a computer equipment maintenance industry, describes specially designed technical support system’s architecture as well as its programming and testing results. The presented prototype of an information system might be treated as new step in computer equipment support services enhancement. This prototype might serve as a core for knowledge management system development; it is suitable for use in businesses which are other than the IT equipment support business.

In this research work's we give an information about land's usage ranges in Marijampole's region for 2000-2005 years. In research project we also analyse land's user's using ranges tendencies and reasons. Marijampolė‘s vicinity territories of landed properties is changing, the reason – human‘s economy‘s proceeding and economical‘s subject variation. The number of private land holder‘s properties are growing, and the number of agricultural‘s comanies and others agricultural‘s corporations and their using land‘s territories are diminished. The reason – some of the corporation elimitates and the new ones ar enot into being. Number of Individual property‘s users also is not growing because retrieved or purchased the land they are subsumed into private‘s landed proprietor‘s group.

Žemės naudojimo tikrinimas atliekamas vykdant žemės naudojimo valstybinę kontrolę. Vykdant žemės naudojimo valstybinę kontrolę siekiama užtikrinti, kad žemė būtų naudojama nepažeidžiant Lietuvos Respublikos žemės įstatymo bei kitų įstatymų, susijusių su žemės naudojimo priežiūra, nustatytų reikalavimų. Bandant užtikrinti tinkamą žemės naudojimą susiduriama su įvairiomis problemomis. Tyrimas atliktas siekiant nustatyti problemas iškylančias vykdant žemės naudojimo valstybinę kontrolę Kauno apskrityje ir trukdančias efektyviam kontrolės vykdymui. Tyrimo objektu pasirinktas - žemės naudojimo kontrolės vykdymas Kauno apskrityje. Analizuotas žemės naudojimo valstybinės kontrolės vykdymas 2003 – 2006 m. Tyrimo metu išanalizuoti teisės aktai reglamentuojantys žemės naudojimą ir tvarkymą, taip pat reglamentuojantys valstybinės kontrolės vykdymą, Nacionalinės žemės tarnybos prie Žemės ūkio ministerijos ir Kauno apskrities viršininko administracijos Žemės tvarkymo departamento kontrolės vykdymo veiklos ataskaitos. Išanalizavus teisės aktus ir jų praktinį taikymą, taip pat žemės naudojimo valstybinės kontrolės vykdymo veiklos ataskaitas, nustatytos problemos kylančios vykdant žemės naudojimo valstybinę kontrolę Kauno apskrityje. Tyrimo metu panaudoti loginio mąstymo, literatūros šaltinių analizės, matematinės statistinės analizės, palyginimo ir ekspertinis metodai. Išsprendus tyrimo metu nustatytas problemas tikėtina, kad kontrolės vykdymas taptų rezultatyvesnis. / In order to assure state level control of land use, it is of key importance to assure land use without any breaches to the provisions of the law on Land of the Republic of Lithuania and other legislation related to supervision of land use. Attempts to assure proper use of land confront with various difficulties. The research has been made to determine the difficulties of state level control of land use in Kaunas County, which have significant impact on effective implementation of control procedures. The subject of research - state level control of land use in Kaunas County. The research analyzed land use control in 2003 – 2006 years. The research analyzed legislation governing execution of state level control of land use in addition to the reports on control procedures made by the National Land Service under the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Management Department of Kaunas County Governor’s Administration’s. Analysis of legislation and its practical application as well as reports on activities of state level control of land use revealed the problems arising in implementing state level control of land use in Kaunas County. Solving these problems is likely to make control procedures more effective.

Work related neck pain amongst university administrative staff

<p>This study aimed at identifying the factors contributing towards work related neck pain amongst university administrative staff, its impact on everyday life activities and in turn its prevalence. A quantitative descriptive cross sectional study design was used amongst the administrative staff at the University of The Western Cape, South Africa. Data collection was carried out with the help of a questionnaire which was administered by the researcher in person. Data was analysed with both descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS and SAS for windows. Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis was done. The results of this study revealed a very high prevalence of work related neck pain amongst university administrative staff. </p>

Les usagers de cannabis et la prise de risque sur la route

La consommation de cannabis et la conduite sous l’influence du cannabis sont des préoccupations grandissantes dans la société d’aujourd’hui. Le but de la présente étude est d’examiner plus en profondeur la relation entre la fréquence de consommation de cannabis chez les jeunes adultes et la prise de risque sur la route. Les participants (n=48) sont tous des hommes âgés de 18 à 26 ans. Ils ont complété une batterie de questionnaires ainsi qu’une tâche sur simulateur de conduite. Les résultats indiquent que la fréquence de consommation de cannabis est associée positivement avec la prise de risque auto rapportée et suggèrent une tendance positive avec les comportements risqués observés lors de la simulation de conduite en laboratoire. Lorsque les différents groupes de consommateurs sont comparés, ceux qui font un usage quotidien ou multihebdomadaire de cannabis semblent prendre plus de risques au volant que ceux qui consomment une fois semaine et moins ou encore une fois par mois et moins. De plus, il semble que plus les individus consomment fréquemment de la marijuana, plus ils ont tendance à adopter des attitudes permissives en lien avec la conduite sous l’influence de cannabis. Les implications quant à l’intervention sont discutées. / Cannabis use and driving under the influence of cannabis have become a growing concern in today’s society. The aim of the present study was to further examine the relationship between the use frequency of cannabis among young adults and on-road risk taking. Participants (n=48) were all men aged between 18 and 26 years old who were asked to complete questionnaires and to perform in a simulation task. Results indicate that the use frequency of cannabis is positively associated with self-report of risky driving and suggest a trend with observed risk taking behaviour during the simulation. When comparing the different cannabis users, participants who consumed daily or multiple times a week seem to take more risk on the road than those who use cannabis once a week or less and less than monthly. Moreover, it seems that marijuana users who consume more frequently have a tendency of adopting more permissive attitudes toward smoking cannabis and taking the wheel. Implications for interventions are discussed.

The purpose of this Master’s thesis is to study how well the online catalogue of The Music Library of Sweden works when ordinary users are searching for sheet music. The issues studied are: Why do the users fail to find the sheet music they are looking for? Do the users take advantage of the possibilities that the classification codes of the SAB system offer? If not, why? The source material of the study is 144 comments from a user questionnaire about the online catalogue and, in addition, the search log for one day (513 queries). The comments were sorted into seven groups depending on the type of information need, for example searches for certain instrumentation or genres and problems with spelling. Each analysis ends with suggestions for improvements of the catalogue and its instructions. The thesis show, according to the Zipf’s principle of least effort, that sheet music searching in the online catalogue is demanding too much effort and knowledge of the users. Searching with SAB classification codes is too complicated which may be the explanation why only 2 percent of the queries in the log are code searches. In 51 of the 76 cases where users failed to find sheet music the queries would have succeeded if the patrons had used classification codes. The SAB system is thus not used as often as it deserves. The variety and amount of failed queries in the material show that sheet music is difficult to search, for several reasons, for example the complex construction of uniform titles of musical works and that the searchable vocabulary of the online catalogue often differ from the users’ own.
