H. K. H. Tepåse och andra souvenirer : Dokumentation av en samling minnesföremål från kronprinsessparets bröllop år 2010 / Her Royal Highnesses the Tea Bag and Other Souvenirs : A documentation of a collection of memorabilia from the Crown Princess Couple's Wedding in 2010

Krumlinde, Johanna January 2011 (has links)
This thesis is a report of the practical aspects and the problems of classification and documentation of a collection of memorabilias from the Crown Princess Couple's Wedding in Stockholm 2010. The collection contains 38 objects collected by Nordiska museet [The Nordic Museum], Sweden's largest museum of cultural history. Nordiska museet has a total collection of over 1,5 million items collected since 1873. My ambition in this thesis has been to describe my work with the classification and documentation of these new objects and their context. One of the main problems was how to combine the modern objects with the old existing collection within the two classification systems used at the museum. Four case studies were made toillustratethe different types ofproblems that occurred and the solutions found.I have also highlightedthe importance of being coherent when working with documentation and some of the consequences of classification.

”Vi verkar lite under radarn.” : Museibibliotekets delade roller - en undersökning av tre museibibliotek / “We’re flying somewhat under the radar.” : The Divided Roles of Museum Libraries – a Study of Three Museum Libraries.

Söderström, Jonatan, Jacobson, Hanna January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to present a clearer picture of the divided roles of museum libraries, to see how they balance working with two separate target groups, the public and the museum staff, and to analyze how this affects the work of the librarians. The research on museum libraries has been sparse during the past 20 years, and this essay aims to fill a gap in the research field. Our primary method of data-collection is qualitative, semi structured, interviews with staff at three museum libraries at Upplandsmuseet, Nordiska Museet and Konstbiblioteket. Additional data was collected by analyzing regulatory documents for each library. The collected data is analyzed using concepts from organizational theory, mainly organizational identity as formulated by Alvesson. The results are presented thematically in accordance with the main points brought forward by the interviewees.   Our interviews show that the primary function of the museum library is to support the museum. The libraries also aim to serve the public but are only able to do this to a limited degree. The role of the libraries is not formulated in any regulatory documents but according to the interviewees, this is not a current issue. Regarding organizational identity, the study shows that the libraries are all connected to the overarching identity of the museum. However, while the library at Upplandsmuseet is strongly connected to the museum's identity, the libraries at Nordiska museets and Konstbiblioteketare somewhat detached from the respective organizations. This could result in a weaker identity for the library. Finally, the librarians from all three libraries express a wish to reach an even broader target group outside the museum. Due to a lack of resources however, both in terms of budget and staff, this is deemed impossible at the present. This is a two years master's thesis in Library and information science.

Nordvall, Maria January 2017 (has links)
This essay examines the represention of sami drums (goavdát) at museums in Sweden. I performed a case study of two exhibitions at different museums, focusing especially on one drum in each. The museums consisted of Nordiska museet in Stockholm and Ájtte – Swedish mountain and sami museum in Jokkmokk. The purpose was to examine them from a viewpoint based on the perception of a both historical and ongoing situation of colonialism of the sami people. The motivation to study museums derives from the idea that museum possesses an ability to create value. In combination with the exhibition I also studied the original function of the drums and interpreted the images on them. The investigation showed diffrent problematic issues in the exhibitions: Ájtte has a deficiency of space which complicates a dialog between the drum and the visitor. Nordiska museet creates a conception of the drums as reduced to a central object in a colonial process without any concerns of the native use. This results in an urge to either establish new exhibitions or updated the ones that already exist since the museums are part of creating a picture of sami identity for the public and therefore - creates value.

Ansvaret för kulturarvet : Studier i det kulturhistoriska museiväsendets formering med särskild inriktning på Nordiska museets etablering 1872−1919 / The Public responsibility for cultural heritage : A study in the formation of cultural history museums in Sweden, with a focus on the establishment of the Nordic Museum 1872-1919

Hillström, Magdalena January 2006 (has links)
This thesis traces and analyses important changes in cultural heritage and museum politics during the 19th century. It tells two overlapping narratives. One is about the museum founder Artur Hazelius and the creation and expansion of The Nordic Museum (Nordiska museet). The other concerns the indecisive construction of meaning and organisational forms for state responsibility for the cultural heritage. The latter story begins in 1810 and the former in 1872. The 19th century is commonly described as the breakthrough for a new era, a time when the cultural heritage became a matter of the state and a part of state promoted nationalism. This thesis instead sheds light on the uncertainties, hesitations and conflicts involved in the construction of national cultural heritage politics and practices. It emphasises the alternatives to state administration that were launched and the crucial role played by associations and voluntary organisation in the preservation of the cultural heritage. It observes the significance of histories and of counter-histories in the controversies over the ownership of and responsibility for the cultural heritage. The way different political positions grow out of conflicting stories of institutional origin is considered. The thesis also focuses on the gradual emergence of a museum profession and its implications for the development of the Nordic Museum and for museum politics in general.

A Century of Swedish Gustavian Style : Art History, Cultural Heritage and Neoclassical Revivals from the 1890s to the 1990s

Mårdh, Hedvig January 2017 (has links)
This is a study of the intersection between art historical theory and practice, and cultural heritage, where the revivals and mediations of the neoclassical Gustavian style have been used as a platform for further exploration. In relation to this, the use and changing meanings of the concepts authenticity and style have been examined. The research has a historiographical and multidisciplinary character, drawing on the fields of art history, critical heritage studies and design history. The study shows how the Gustavian style has been routinely used when Swedish culture has been staged, nationally and internationally, but also when shaping ideas of the ideal home and good taste. The focus is placed on three periods – the 1890s, the 1930s-40s and the 1990s – during which the Gustavian style was defined, revived and mediated in different modes of representation such as textbooks, exhibitions, period furniture and historically informed performances. In the study we meet the actors, human and non-human, that have contributed to the resilient position of the Gustavian style in the public consciousness and in a commercial context. The Gustavian style, perhaps like no other, has been systematically embraced by the official heritage institutions in Sweden, including the academic discipline of art history, which has been an important influence on the way the past has been presented, valued, categorised, preserved and re-used. The author argues that the style has been able to maintain its relevance due to its ability to embody many different prevailing aspects across the 20th century, for example tradition and modernity, nationalism and internationalism, but also the past, present and visions of retro-utopia.
