Isolamento e caracterização de Pasteurella multocida provenientes de animais de companhia / Isolation and characterization of Pasteurella multocida from pets

Thaís Sebastiana Porfida Ferreira 23 September 2011 (has links)
Pasteurella multocida is the causative agent of many diseases of economic importance in veterinary medicine and has been described as an agent a high zoonotic potential. In Brazil, contrary to what is observed in the international literature, information about the frequency of this agent in animals such as dogs, cats and rabbits are nonexistent. This study proposes isolate strains of Pasteurella multocida from dogs, cats and rabbits, evaluate the frequency of this agent in these animal species, characterize the isolates according to the capsular type, and genes encoding virulence factors through the reaction polymerase chain, evaluate the antimicrobial resistance profiles of isolates and characterize the samples by PFGE. We examined 640 animals, 191 cats, 309 dogs and 140 rabbits. Among the animals examined were positive 8.1% for the isolation of P. multocida, and 10.4% of cats, dogs 0.9% and 20.7% of the rabbits studied. Among the 93 selected strains 22.5% were susceptible to all drugs tested, 77.4% of strains were resistant to at least one drug were used and 5.3% showed resistance to three or more drugs. Through PFGE were observed 39 pulsotipos discriminatory index equal to 0.97. All genes encoding virulence factors were detected in at least one isolated, none of which was present in 100% of the strains evaluated.

Effects of a Trained Therapy Dog in Child-Centered Play Therapy on Children's Biobehavioral Measures of Anxiety

Athy, Annette L. 05 1900 (has links)
This study was concerned with reducing children's anticipatory anxiety when entering mental health services for the first time. The purpose of this study was to determine whether combining two effective modalities, play therapy and animal-assisted therapy, would be effective in decreasing children's biobehavioral measurements of anxiety. Specifically, this study examined the effects of the presence of a trained therapy dog during one individual 30-minute play therapy session. The experimental group consisted of 26 children who received one individual 30-minute play therapy session with the presence of a trained therapy dog. The comparison group consisted of 25 children who received one individual 30-minute play therapy session without the presence of a trained therapy dog. The SenseWear® PRO 2 armband monitor measured children's biobehavioral measurements such as galvanic skin response, temperature, and activity level (BodyMedia, Inc., Pittsburgh , PA , www.bodymedia.com). The Tanita 6102 Cardio® digital heart rate monitor measured children's pre-treatment and post-treatment heart rates (Tanita Corporation of America, Inc., Arlington Heights , IL , www.tanita.com). Five hypotheses were tested using repeated measures ANOVA with mixed factors and eta squared. All five hypotheses in this study were retained based on statistical significance at the .05 level. The combination of child-centered play therapy (CCPT) and animal-assisted therapy was shown to have little practical significance in decreasing children's first 5-minute biobehavioral measurements, middle 5-minute biobehavioral measurements, last 5-minute biobehavioral measurements as measured by the SenseWear Pro 2 armband monitor. The combination of CCPT and animal-assisted therapy was shown to have little practical significance in decreasing children's pre-treatment and post-treatment heart rate. The results of the two factor repeated measures analysis of variance with mixed factors were not statistically significant. Although, research has shown that play therapy is an effective modality in reducing children's anxiety over time, children's anticipatory anxiety was increased in the first 30-minutes of play therapy with or without the presence of a trained therapy dog. Anticipatory anxiety may have been due to the children experiencing a novel and unfamiliar situation, entering the play therapy room with a stranger, the non-structured environment of the play therapy room, or a first interaction with the armband monitor.

Crematorio de Mascotas “Patitas del Recuerdo”

Arriaga Velasquez, Renzo Jonathan, Brito Angulo, Andrea Cristina, De La Cruz Vasquez, Angie Elizabeth, Farroñay Blanco, Jordany, Morales Bocanegra, Liz Caroll 17 February 2020 (has links)
Currently, pets have become another member of the family and their death is painful but inevitable. There is an increase in families seeking to perpetuate through cremation, the memory of the being that gave them unconditional love. In Lima Metropolitana, approximately 60% of households (1.37 million) have some pets at home, dogs with 74% and cats 39%. Due to the growth of real estate, these families and their pets live in apartments or housing complexes and it is not allowed to bury their pets in the gardens. The goal of our project is to create a comprehensive pet cremation service that provides logistical and emotional support to families during this farewell process that is so sensitive to them. This comprehensive service includes moving family members from their homes to the wake and vice versa, a comfortable place while waiting for the custom-designed urn with their pet's ashes, cremation certificate, support groups and visits to pet shelter. For the start-up of the project, an initial investment of S / 253,741.00 is necessary, with a financing of 40% with bank loan and 60% with contribution from shareholders, where it is estimated that the capital recovery period will be one year approximately. Therefore, we conclude that, according to the study carried out, the Patitas del Recuerdo project is economically viable.

Ramos Lao, Adrian Benito, Rivas Ibañez, Herbert Alexis, Torres Iriarte, María Margarita Martina 21 July 2020 (has links)
The following research and business plan evaluates the feasibility and viability of a pet products ecommerce initially aimed at owners who live in Lima Moderna districts and fall into a high SES. This proposal seeks to serve a market niche within the other pet products category focused on orthopedic injuries prevention. The business idea validation was carried out through a quantitative and qualitative research. The primary source consisted of 98 surveys, interviews and observation done on social media which confirmed the business plan viability. Rampet's value proposition is to be the only pet products brand that helps prevent orthopedic injuries and provide independence to pets. Products are handmade and made of pine wood. They have care and protection as their rational benefits. Furthermore, their economic benefit is to avoid additional expenses in surgical procedures or long-term treatments. As to emotional benefits, pet owners perceive the emotional relief of avoiding anguish due to a possible "member of the family" orthopedic disease. Finally, within the financial analysis and based on the proposed sales projection, it is expected to capture 10% of the target market in the first year by developing a marketing plan focused on brand positioning. Obtaining a positive ROI in an optimistic and conservative scenario makes Rampet a highly profitable brand. / Trabajo de investigación

Agapito Almeyda, Ronald Roger, Alvarez Chung, Angélica Beatriz, Carrasco Quinto, Rogelio, Villegas Salguero, Eduardo Benito, Arteaga Orrillos, Carlos Valentín 05 November 2018 (has links)
The main objective of this research work is to evaluate the desirability, feasibility and opportunity of the proposal of a business plan for the sale of BARF (biologically appropriate raw food) for domestic dogs. Our proposal is based on the existence of a growing demand for healthy food for pets, which is aligned with the tendency to seek new alternatives for healthy eating for the people themselves and their environment. It is fundamentally sought to reduce the risk of diseases and have a long life for pets. In addition, in recent years there has been a continuous increase in spending on pet care and the number of pets per household, both trends have created the concept of doglovers. Based on these premises, an economic analysis was carried out to estimate the viability of this business plan, which was consistent with the reality of the target market, generating profit margins and being sustainable over time. / Trabajo de investigación
