Habiter et consommer le logement social : une approche stratégique de l'habiter des classes populaires et moyennes sous contraintes de pouvoir d'achat / Living and consume social housing : a strategic approach to inhabit the working and middle classes under constraints of purchasing power

Parise, Fanny 02 February 2015 (has links)
In 2014, what is the "sense of living"? The evolution of French legislation creates a social housing commodification process already begun. "Large contractors" and housing professionals join forces to develop a new offer of social housing to intermediate middle class. The rise of the global middle class and the economic crisis produces differentiated patterns of consumption and housing demand considering new societal trends. The renewed interest since the 2000s for alternative housing (including cohousing) positions innovation in housing in a co-construction approach (builder, architect, sociologist). These context effects are part of a comprehensive approach to the diversity of the inhabitants of the middle class practices. The heterogeneity of this social group, through plural lifestyles, illustrates the deployment strategies and residential choices that reflect a singular relative to each other, a report to the specific world; whose "big contractors" is trying to grasp the meaning and complexity.

[en] EXCLUSION AND INCLUSION OF STUDENTS FROM THE POPULAR CLASSES IN UNIVERSITY: THE ROLE OF READING AND WRITING / [pt] INCLUSÃO E EXCLUSÃO DAS CAMADAS POPULARES NA UNIVERSIDADE: O PAPEL DA LEITURA E DA ESCRITA

ANDREA CRISTINA PAVAO BAYMA 27 October 2004 (has links)
[en] The starting point of this thesis is the debate that surrounds affirmative action policy concerning African descendants, and students coming from public schools, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. In the context of this debate, the role of written culture is considered within the project of becoming a university student. Steering clear of deficit ideology, this thesis aims at confronting the discussion about inequalities determined by the Brazilian educational system, specifically concerning the relationship between the popular classes and written culture. Interviews and participant observations were carried out in two universities, one of them public and the other private. A process of immersion in a low-income community was carried out, as well as investigation of three educational spaces engaged in movements of inclusion and permanence of these groups in the university: a community admission examinations preparation course and two projects developed in the universities, the objective of which is to minimize the specific difficulties regarding reading and writing presented by members of these groups. Working with the concept of reading and writing as social practice, the research points to the formative dimension of university, less as a result of specific pedagogic strategies than through socialization processes in a community of readers composed of literate teachers and a propitious environment. The university is shown to be an advantageous space for the acquisition of the habitus of these practices, their gestures and objects, which comprise a characteristic kind of sociability that, unfortunately, for various reasons, is not satisfactorily accomplished during elementary and secondary education.

Mazzonetto, Silvia Maria Leme do Prado Cascione 24 March 2009 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Silvia Maria Leme do Prado Cascione Mazzonetto.pdf: 1496448 bytes, checksum: 471e8c3eea7055690aadbcb644bbd1fc (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-03-24 / The main objective of this report research is to apprehend the strategies for literary capital acquisition to Letters students from lower classes under the sociological perspective of Pierre Bourdieu, to whom the lower classes are destined to the school failure, because the school transmits the dominant cultural capital which is scarce to them. Therefore, the subject of this study are 56 students from the 6th semester of a public college in São Paulo (Group 1) and 36 students in the same semester from a private college located in the city of Santos (Group 2). The specifics objectives are: 1) characterize the social economic and cultural profile in the last year; 2) raise the strategies of appropriation to the literary capital in the path before college and in the same schedule; 3) compare this student improvement and the number of abdication in his group; 4) verify how much the Letters course interferes in his cultural activities today. The main theoretical supports in the sociological area are Pierre Bourdieu, Bernard Lahire and Bernard Charlot. In the reading area, the main reference is Antonio Augusto Gomes Batista. We claim to investigate in which way (which reading and strategies) these students used to obtain in their academic life this elite cultural capital (literary and school), where we presume, they had a little or none contact: literature is the lecture that composes the curricular grade in this course, and we suppose that the student use some strategies to acquit this capital, but the acquisition of the literary capital is only superficial. This has been partially proved. For this, they realized a quantitative and qualitative data collect, making applied tests for both groups and interviews with two students from Group 1, beyond consulting the course secretary of the college to obtain how many students got off. The results show that Group 1 belongs to middle and lower classes and Group 2 to the lower classes. This report reveals that the ones that prefer public college suffers a super selection, before and during the course, and at this point they have more cultural capital than the group of private college.

The study present here is an investigation about citizenship. Initially our analysis is based on social-historical conceptual focus, since qe hare reflected on the origin and evolution of the citizenship on a perspective, as on the word as on the national ambit. Moreover, we present laconically some aspects of the city where we have performed the field work and afterwards we have analyzed the citizenship concept. Afterwards, our broach is consubstantiated on the analysis respecting the difficulties and possibilities of the citizenship existence, at the public and private space for the popular class families. For this, we have based on the declaration and the social conditions of six families who live in the peripherical district in the city of Presidente Pr. The present study has as a conductor thread the analysis about the relational ideology that is related to the popular culture and the material survival of the subjects on this research. Thus, the main hindrances to make citizenship exist on private sphere, is due to the dominant present of referred ideology along with the numberless privations of material sort, which we emphasize the ones that are encircled to the housing and the peripherical district. Concerning the possibilities to have citizenship, on the private space, it is related whit the feminine power, with the affective dimension and the matter of solidarity. However, the citizenship isn t performed in reason for the unilaterality of the feminine power; for the fact of the affective sphere contribute and reinforce asymmetrical in both married people and; only solidarith isn t enough to guarantee citizenship. Concerning the citizenship on the public space, the obstacles are infinitely bigger than the possibilities for its relation, as for the political culture of the favor (that has affinity with the relational ideology) as for the remarkable presence of the relational ideology, the oppression and exploration on the work space.

Mazot-Oudin, Antoine 05 1900 (has links)
Abstract Donald Trump’s unforeseen victory in the U.S’s 2016 presidential campaign. The unexpected Brexit in the U.K. the same year. The disappearance of the two governing political parties in France at the 2017 elections. The electoral success of a third party, the Coalition Avenir Québec, during the provincial elections in 2018 in Quebec. On both sides of the Atlantic, unpredicted electoral results and a large reshuffling of partisan scenes are upsetting political, media and academic analyses. These phenomena are sometimes summed up as part of the “rise of populism”. Some works single out the “people” and their habit of being seduced, sometimes of being fooled, by “populist” leaders. The (jumbled) causes – built through statistical explications – are usually found with the “losers of the globalization”, the popular social classes or with ordinary people of rural regions. The observation of a political world turned upside down by the more dominated margins of society is usually brought up with the paradox of poor people voting against their supposed interests. In France, these reflections are part of the larger debate concerning the voting habits of the popular classes in the context of the slow demise of the right-left divide as the main political reference. On the contrary, in Quebec, the partisan sphere is seen as being more and more polarized around this divide, as the question of sovereignty loses its significance. At the same time, the notion of popular social classes is not as centrally used by analysts in Quebec. Comparing these two cases allows this research to shed – a qualitative – light on the popular classes’ relations to politics and political sides in France and in Quebec. This work is based on an ethnographic fieldwork in two lower class campgrounds in Pas-de-Calais (in France) and in the south of the “ region of Québec ”. It is a study, from the bottom-up and in a comparative perspective, of the representations and political attitudes of seasonal campers in a leisurely context. My analysis is based on around fifty interviews and a set of ethnographic observation made during two summer seasons in two campgrounds and in other spaces of leisure. In my analysis of the research participants, ordinary representations of the political parties and of the social significance of voting underlines a suspicious distance from the political realm that is common to socially comparable groups. Voting habits appear to give ambiguous political information that is often difficult to interpret. Far from the erudite patterns of understanding the political game, my work emphasizes common secular tools used by popular classes in France and in Quebec. When such tools, like the use of clues or of rumors for instance, are observed on site, they illustrate the plurality of the participants’ understanding of and relationship to the political. The political attitudes of the popular classes are very loosely connected to the issues of the political realm and are usually rooted in personal experiences. They thus need to be studied in a larger perspective. These relationships to the political are better understood when they are connected to the participants’ relationship to the State and to their own mobilization of identities which allows them to situate themselves socially. My work therefore underscores the divergences and effects of diverse social and spatial trajectories on the social representations and world visions that the popular social classes muster in these two distinct national spaces. My work consequently aims at shedding a different light on the reshuffling of the partisan scenes in France and in Quebec by orienting the debate towards the ordinary relationships of the popular classes to the political. This thesis points at a political sociology of popular classes in Quebec. It also takes a stand in the debates on the shift to the right of these lower classes and on the “rise of populism” in France and in Quebec. This stand is rooted in a methodological contribution to the ethnography of the political.

The case of a community radio in Senegal

Diagne, Yacine 19 May 2014 (has links)
Aspiring to “give a voice” to the poor people of Pikine, a suburb of the Senegalese capital, “Local Debate” is an interactive political programme of the community radio Air’Jeunes, created in the late nineties at the initiative of youth associations in the Dakar region with support from a major Canadian NGO. This thesis explores the use of this programme by local citizens in three main areas where activists and proponents of participatory democracy are committed to developing citizen action mechanisms, aiming to correct the defects and shortcomings under the democratic ideal of representative government: the role of citizens in the production system of local public goods, symbolic relationships between elected leaders and electors, and the public space for debate on public policies and the actions of representatives. Based on an ethnographic field study conducted in three phases between 2006 and 2011 in the radio production studio and the show’s listening sites, it appears that, even if the programme has enabled forms of contestation of local authority to be voiced publicly without mediation, the realisation of the original project faced an unfavourable local context marked by the lack of resources given to local officials to exercise their newly decentralised powers and a local political journalism polarised around two dominant forms, leaving little room for debate: the antagonistic journalism of big private groups and small informal press, and the legitimising journalism of the public service group. Despite their militant commitment to the project, radio staff and hosts whose social origins and educational backgrounds distance them from the forms of consumption of information goods and activities of Pikine’s inhabitants, as well as the dynamic activities of informal neighbourhood associations in the suburbs of Dakar, have gradually yielded to forces of attraction exercised by mainstream private radios, influencing their vision of their professional future and, in turn, their journalistic practice .
