Dohled a ochrana osobních údajů / Surveillance and Personal Data Protection

Kohoutová, Jana January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the surveillance and private data protection. The first part brings into the focus the theoretical definition of surveillance and the areas in which it is applied. Important role in this thesis has also it's historical development. For example there will be introduced the historical resolution according to David Lyon to premodern, modern and postmodern surveillance, Michel Foucault's view on the surveillance of the state over it's citizens or society of control of Gilles Deleuze. The second part of this thesis will move to concepts as personal data and their protection. I will define what privacy and personal data means and what is it's value to each of us. This thesis will continue with current legal aspects not only in the Czech Republic but within whole European union. As the next important topic will follow the new regulation of European Union dealing with personal data, so called GDPR that comes into the force next year and it's possible benefits for contemporary situation. The result of this thesis is to provide the insight into the development of surveillance in the society and define it in the areas where it is implied but primarily find out to what extent is this surveillance entitled and where it's limits are. Another aim of this thesis is also to asses the...

Tryggheten på en svensk grundskola : En kvalitativ studie om den upplevda tryggheten på en grundskola i södra Sverige / The safety at a Swedish primary school : A qualitative study on the perceived safety at a primary school in southern Sweden

Kuneman, Bram, Andresen, Albin January 2021 (has links)
This study focuses on how students in ninth grade at a Sweden school experience the security of their high school. Which factors affect safety the most and whether there is any difference between how girls and boys view security. The study is qualitative with a hermeneutic approach and the empirical data was collected through semi-structured group interviews with a total of 10 students. To analyze our results, we have chosen to use Scheff's social bonds, Bourdieu's social capital and Foucault's analysis of panopticon. The results showed that the interviewees perceive the general security at their school as good, but that there are situations that are uncomfortable and groups that contribute to an unsafe environment. Furthermore, it turned out that a strong unity, good relations with staff and classmates as well as camera surveillance were seen as security-creating factors.

Vidění a moc. Porovnání konceptů Guye Deborda a Michela Foucaulta / Vision and Power. A comparison between the concepts of Guy Debord and Michael Foucault

Bučilová, Pavla January 2014 (has links)
This thesis aims to analyse the similarities and differences in Guy Debords' and Michel Foucaults' approaches to the relationship of vision and power. Its purpose is to show the power of visual discourse and define whether it is possible for society to resist or escape from this power. The thesis is methodologically based on the distincion of political and philosophical thoughts of both authors: according to Debord, society emerges from the power of the spectacle through the non-capitalist class order of society, alternatively, Foucault sees power relations as a set of practices that permeate the entire society and each one of us. These are practices which we are formed by and which we also form ouselves. Therefore, it is impossible for him to overcome or completely eliminate interconnection of power and vision from society. Based on this distinction, the thesis attempts to verify the assumption that Debord's inspiration by Marxism does not allow him to reflect the relationship of vision and power in its whole range in the context of non-capitalist order. Unlike Foucault's concept of surveillance, Debord's theory of spectacle is utopian.

Mapping out the impact of surveillance technology: research, professionals, and public opinion : A mixed methods approach

Karlsson, Kalle January 2022 (has links)
Combating crime is a complex task with cultural, political, and legal dimensions. In technologically advanced societies, surveillance technology can be used to aid law enforcement. A few examples of such tools are drones, cameras, and wiretaps to mention a few. As such tools become more commonplace, the need to address associated issues increase which relate to cultural, political, and legal dimensions and different stakeholders. Hence, the purpose of this thesis is to discern the impact of informatics research on surveillance technology and map out similarities and discrepancies between views of social media users, researchers, and professionals within law enforcement. The thesis impose a heuristic perspective and stem from both positivist and interpretivist tradition. The Panopticon metaphor and Panopticism are used as a theoretical lens, mainly to discuss and contextualize the findings. Data was from Twitter and Scopus by using scripts and by conducting an interview with law enforcement staff in Sweden. A total of 88 989 tweets and 4 874 research papers were retrieved. These were analyzed using topic modeling which assigned a dominant topic to each tweet and research paper. The interview was thematized using both the literature review and the topic modeling findings for guiding framework. The findings showed that there were seven topics found within the Scopus dataset and four topics within the Twitter dataset. It was found that privacy was one of the least mentioned aspects in all three datasets and that law enforcement personnel see it as closely related with efficiency. Military applications and usage were found in both research papers and tweets and law enforcement staff use a variety of ICT in their daily work. Based on the findings, it seems as though surveillance technology today can suitably be characterized as being bi-directional, both in the form of sousveillance and surveillance which relates to the Deleuzian perspectives on Panopticon. It was concluded that concrete implementations of surveillance technology attracted the most attention compared to more abstract themes such as ethics and privacy. But in all both datasets, specific ICT was addressed from a critical perspective. Similarly, law enforcement personnel viewed privacy and integrity from the organization’s perspective and highlighted rules and regulation. For future work, sentiment analysis is suggested to supplement topic modeling as well as imposing a longitudinal approach or adding additional social media sources.

Meio quilo de gente! - produção do prazer de ver e construção da pessoa fetal mediada pela ultra-sonografia: um estudo etnográfico em clínicas de imagem na cidade do Rio de Janeiro / "Half a pint of humanity" - the production of the pleasure of seeing and the construction of fetal person mediated by ultra-sound imaging: an ethnographic study in imaging clinics in the city of Rio de Janeiro

The central focus of this thesis consists of seeking to understand a phenomenon which is presently taking place in the area of fetal ultrasound images. What began as a medical imaging technology, invented for diagnostic purposes, gradually became an object of consumption and leisure. In order to investigate this phenomenon, the theoretical investigation looks at how the modern mode of seeing and the observer were constructed, and in what way technologies of medical imaging impact the social construction of the body. Another theoretical aspect consists of the investigation, from a socio-historical point of view, of the production of pregnancy and of the fetus as medical subjects, and in what way the technology of ultra-sound applied to obstetrics is situated at the nexus of various processes: the process of constructing a new mode of seeing, of the reconfigurations of the body, of the medicalization of gestation and of the fetus, and, finally, of the construction of the fetus as a person before its birth. Anthropological studies carried out abroad, during the nineties, show that the phenomenon involving fetal images was inscribed in and delimited by the specific socio-cultural codes where the imaging was done. The lack of research in this area in the Brazilian context was the point of departure for an empirical investigation. An anthropological observation of obstetric ultra-sounds, with an ethnographic approach, was carried out in three private imaging clinics, during the course of 2003, in Rio de Janeiro, with the intention of understanding how this phenomenon took place, in what way it was produced and signified by those involved, and what were the ramifications of these practices, modeled by local cultural particularities. The field work showed that obstetric ultrasonography can be characterized as an interactive imaging technique, in contrast to other medical imaging techniques, a peculiarity which lends itself to the construction of various significations having as their origin gray and hazy fetal images. The production of the pleasure of seeing the fetus is the touchstone which links the useful to the pleasing, and the consumption of images is point of connection for various questions raised in the thesis. One can think of this situation as part of a panopticism which scans female and fetal bodies, at one and the same time normatizing them and constructing new subjects shaped by virtual corporalities.

Österberg, Elsa January 2023 (has links)
This bachelor’s thesis deals with how the spatiality of libraries can correlate with instances of disorderly user behaviors. The fact that public libraries are among the types that are most prone to disorder, while Kriminalvården’s (the Swedish correctional service’s) librarians rarely experience similar problematic behaviors, could be said to illustrate a balancing act between anarchy and a manic need for control; where the most ideal compromise is, is based both upon personal values and the situation at hand.   To compare different reasonings about the room and the users, public librarians’ perspectives on factors of architecture and design have been contrasted with how librarians within Kriminalvården view the matter. The study has mainly been carried out using qualitative semi-structured interviews as well as a supplementary questionnaire. Operationalized factors of spatial influence in the form of categorized opposites (accessible/inaccessible, comfortable/repellent, visible/obscured, enabling/forbidding), which were identified early on and have guided the investigation, are used both implicitly in the interview guides and the questionnaire as well as explicitly in reading for the thematic analysis.   The terms “ideal type”, “heterotopia”, and “panopticon/panopticism” are used theoretically to deepen the understanding of the essay’s collected data: their suitability emerges in the nuances of what libraries can/should be; what happens when you bring together multiple functions in one space; as well as how control through surveillance can be understood and applied in library spaces.   The results show several differences at the operational level, but also similarities in terms of the librarian’s approach and view on problematic factors. Public libraries often have many functions (that do not always interact harmoniously) and offer more freedom, which risks their orderliness, while Kriminalvårdens library operations (which consists almost exclusively of literature distribution) have more order – but at the expense of user´s freedom.    The study’s outcome can be used as a basis of knowledge for practical planning of library design, but also as a springboard for further research. The effect of spatiality on users can prove important for the orderliness, atmosphere, and security of a library: cultivating an awareness regarding these possibilities of influence can thus be considered of great interest.
