Il presente progetto di ricerca muove dalle riflessioni sul ruolo e sulle caratteristiche che la formazione alla sicurezza ricopre oggi nei diversi contesti organizzativi ed istituzionali. L’importanza di educare e formare alla salute e alla sicurezza è riconosciuta sia a livello nazionale sia a livello europeo, come dimostrano i numerosi atti normativi italiani ed europei. Il progetto di ricerca si è posto l’obiettivo di analizzarne in maniera approfondita gli aspetti pedagogico-educativi della formazione alla sicurezza in famiglia, nella scuola e negli ambienti di lavoro, per giungere alla formulazione di indicazioni pedagogiche utili per formare alla sicurezza nelle diverse età della vita. / The present research project starts from reflections on the role and characteristics of safety training in the various organizational and institutional contexts. The importance of educating and training in health and safety is recognized both at national and at European level. The research project analyze the pedagogical-educational aspects of safety training in the family, in the school and in the workplace, to arrive at the formulation of pedagogical indications useful for training for safety in different ages of life

A dor é uma das principais causas de sofrimento humano, comprometendo a qualidade de vida das pessoas e refletindo no seu estado físico e psicossocial. Em crianças e adolescente com câncer a dor pode ser causada pela própria doença, pelo tratamento e pelos procedimentos, potencializada pelo medo, ansiedade e incerteza. Tendo em vista as múltiplas dimensões que envolvem a dor da criança e do adolescente com câncer e que a caracteriza como um fenômeno complexo, os objetivos do presente estudo são descrever as vivências dos profissionais de saúde no cuidado à criança e ao adolescente com câncer em situações de dor, durante o processo de hospitalização, e analisá-las buscando fundamentação em algumas idéias acerca da complexidade enfocadas por Edgar Morin. Nesta pesquisa, de natureza qualitativa, utilizou-se a entrevista como recurso de coleta de dados. Participaram do estudo 16 profissionais da equipe de saúde do setor de onco-hematologia pediátrica de um hospital-escola do município de Ribeirão Preto. Os dados empíricos indicam que os profissionais reconhecem a importância da avaliação da dor, mas sua operacionalização é percebida como um desafio. Apontam as limitações do uso de escalas e no manejo da dor destacam como primordial a abordagem farmacológica. Manifestam sentimentos de impotência, angústia e sofrimento com a situação de dor. Permitem também vislumbrar possibilidades apresentadas pelos próprios profissionais, tais como a composição de equipes fixas integradas em um trabalho interdisciplinar e o envolvimento da família no cuidado. Os resultados apontam ainda para a necessidade de distinguir os múltiplos enfoques dos profissionais e compor uma unidade de cuidado em que esses enfoques sejam articulados de forma a atender ao cuidado das múltiplas dimensões da dor em crianças e adolescentes com câncer. Para que essa unidade de cuidado seja viabilizada ressalta-se a necessidade de articulação de todos os profissionais envolvidos no atendimento às situações de dor da criança e do adolescente com câncer hospitalizado por meio de um projeto comum, construído conjuntamente. / Pain is one of the main causes of human suffering, affecting people’s quality of life and reflecting in their physical and psychosocial condition. In children and adolescents with cancer, pain can either be caused by the disease itself, by the treatment or by the procedures and is reinforced by fear, anxiety and uncertainty. In view of the multiple dimensions involved in pain of children and adolescents with cancer, which characterize it as a complex phenomenon, this study aims to describe the experiences of health professionals in care for children and adolescents with cancer in pain situations during the hospitalization process and analyze them on the basis of some of Edgar Morin’s ideas of complexity. This qualitative research used interviews as a data collection instrument. Study participants were 16 professionals from the pediatric blood cancer health team of a school hospital in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil. Empirical data point out that, although the professionals recognize the importance of pain evaluation, its operationalization is seen as a challenge. They point towards the limitations of using pain scales and highlight the basic importance of the pharmacological approach for pain coping. Participants show feelings of powerlessness, anguish and suffering in view of the pain situation of children and adolescents with cancer. They also disclose possibilities, such as the composition of fixed teams, integrated in an interdisciplinary service, and family involvement in care. Results also indicate the need to distinguish between multiple professional focuses and to establish a care unit that allows for the articulation of these focuses, so as to attend to the multiple pain dimensions of children and adolescents with cancer. With a view to the practicability of this care unit, we highlight the need for articulation between all professionals involved in care for pain situations in hospitalized children and adolescents with cancer, through a common and jointly constructed project.

Implementation och utvärdering av kommunikation mellan smartphone och in flight entertainment systems / Implementation and evaluation of communication between smartphone and in flight entertainment systems

In this thesis an implementation of an Android application is made. The application is able to run on both an Android based In Flight Entertainment system screen, as well as on an Android smartphone. When two instances of the application is run on different systems, the two application instances are able to communicate with each other via UDP or Bluetooth. The implementation of the communication is evaluated. For implementations demanding high goodput, UDP is better suited than Bluetooth which is consistent with results of previous studies. For implementations where response times are more important than goodput, Bluetooth is considered to still be a viable option. The results shows that the hardware performance of the system running the application greatly impacts the resulting goodput and response times of the communication. Hardware performance is therefore concluded to be the biggest hurdle to overcome when implementing demanding application communication between smarthphones and the In Flight Entertainment systems targeted in this study. / I detta examensarbete så skapas en Android applikation. Applikationen kan köras på både en Androidbaserad In Flight Entertainment skärm, samt en Android smartphone. När två instanser av applikationen körs på olika enheter så kan applikationerna kommunicera med varandra via UDP eller Bluetooth. Implementationen av kommunikationen utvärderas. För implementationer som kräver högre goodput så är UDP bättre lämpat att använda än Bluetooth, vilket är konsekvent med resultat från tidigare utförda studier. För implementationer där låg responstid är viktigare än hög goodput, så är Bluetooth dock inte ett uteslutet alternativ. Resultatet visar att hårdvaruprestandan hos den enhet som applikationen körs på har en stor påverkan på kommunikationens goodput och responstid. Utifrån detta så dras slutsatsen att påverkan från hårdvaruprestandan är den största begränsningen som behöver adresseras vid implementation av krävande applikationskommunikation mellan smarttelefoner och de In Flight Entertainemet system som använts i denna studie.

Il contesto contemporaneo pare attraversato da una grande sfida umana, che chiama in causa ognuno di noi ad interrogarsi circa il significato di educare nel tempo della pluralità. L’epoca attuale è caratterizzata dal fenomeno migratorio, dalla presenza stabile di cittadini di origine straniera residenti nel territorio italiano e da una globalizzazione della persona umana. È in questo contesto che il presente lavoro prende in esame, nel quadro della ricerca qualitativa qui condotta, le narrazioni di storie di vita di genitori di origine ghanese residenti nella provincia di Bergamo e Brescia al fine di problematizzare alcune categorie pedagogiche legate al ruolo genitoriale. Ne emerge uno spaccato interessante che mostra l’importanza per questi genitori di mantenere un legame con la terra di origine, la necessità di aprirsi al contesto in cui vivono e la sfida nel rapporto con i figli nati e/o cresciuti nel paese di residenza. La ricerca ha dimostrato come la pedagogia, accogliendo questi vissuti, sia in grado di promuovere riflessioni e spazi di interesse in cui le differenze reciproche sono occasione di crescita comune, nella molteplicità delle culture. / The contemporary context seems to be marked by a great human challenge which calls each of us into question about the meaning of educating in this time of plurality. The time we live in is characterized by the migration phenomenon , the stable presence of citizens of foreign origin living in the Italian territory and by a globalization of the human person. The present work has examined, within the framework of qualitative research and the current social context, the life stories of Ghanaian-born parents living in the province of Bergamo and Brescia. This was carried out in an attempt to problematize multiple pedagogical categories related to the parenting function. The result is an interesting cross- section that shows the importance for these parents to maintain a bond with the country of origin, the need to open up to the context in which they live, and the challenge found in the relationship with their children born and/or raised in their country of residence. The research has shown how pedagogy, by accepting these experiences, is able to promote reflections and spaces of interest in which mutual differences are an opportunity for common growth within the multiplicity of cultures.

Autism är en neuropsykiatrisk funktionsnedsättning som innebär att en person har ett annorlunda sätt att uppleva, förstå och tänka än många andra människor. Det handlar bland annat om svårighet inom ömsesidigt socialt samspel och kommunikation, att sortera och bearbeta sinnesintryck samt ett starkt begränsat mönster i beteendet. Det är vanligt att autistiska personer har specifika krav. De har behov av bättre visualisering av uppgift, tydliga instruktioner, påminnelser och med hjälp av de tekniska enheterna, kan dessa krav uppfyllas. Idag finns ett stort utbud av kognitiva hjälpmedel, produkter, lösningar och tjänster som kan underlätta vardagen för personer med nedsatt kognitiv förmåga. I den här studien studeras hur en surfplatta används av ungdomar med autism i sin skolmiljö. Deltagarna observerades och fick svara på frågor om sina upplevelser kring sin användning av surfplattan utifrån kriterierna användarvänlighet, design och effektivitet. / Autism is a neurodevelopment disorder that entails that an individual has a different way of perception, understanding and thinking than other people. The disorder gives a difficulty with social interaction and communication, difficulty to sort and process sensory input and gives a strong limited behavioural pattern. It’s common for individual on the autism spectrum to have specific demands for they need better visualization, clear instructions and punctual reminders. These specific demands can be met with technological devices. There is a large supply of cognitive aid, products, solutions and services that can help make everyday life easier for individuals with an impaired cognitive ability. This study examined how a high technological product – a tablet used in school environment by adolescence with autism. The participants evaluated their experiences around the use of the tablet. They also judged the tablets user-friendliness, design and effectivity as a support for personal growth.

Design of a hexapod mount for a radio telescope

Thesis (MScEng (Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering))--University of Stellenbosch, 2011. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The world's astronomy community is working together to build the largest and most sensitive radio telescope in the world namely: the SKA (Square Kilometre Array). It will consist of approximately three thousand dishes which will each require accurate positioning. The Square Kilometer Array has a testbed called the Phased Experimental Demonstrator (PED) in Observatory, Cape Town. A hexapod positioning mechanism is required to position a 3.7 m radio telescope which forms part of an array of seven radio telescopes. This thesis details the design process of the hexapod system. The design consists of the mechanical design of the joints and linear actuators, a kinematic and dynamic model, a controller and a user interface. In order to verify the design for the PED hexapod a scaled prototype was designed, built and tested. The hexapod's repeatability as well as ability to track a path was tested using an inclinometer. The tests confirmed the design feasibility of the PED hexapod and also highlight issues that require care when constructing the full scale hexapod, such as the amount of play in the platform joints. The designed full scale hexapod will have an error angle less than 0.13°, a payload capacity of 45 kg, withstand wind speeds of 110 km/h and cost R160 000. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die wêreld se sterrekundige gemeenskap is besig om saam te werk om die grootste en mees sensitiewe radioteleskoop in die wêreld te bou, naamlik: die SKA (Square Kilometre Array). Dit sal uit ongeveer drie duisend skottels bestaan wat elkeen akkurate posisionering benodig. Die SKA het 'n toetssentrum, genaamd die “Phased Experimental Demonstrator” in Observatory, Kaapstad. 'n Sespoot posisionering meganisme word benodig om die 3.7 m radioteleskoop te posisioneer, wat deel vorm van 'n stelsel van sewe radioteleskope. Hierdie tesis beskryf die proses om die sespoot stelsel te ontwerp. LA CITTA' EDUCATIVA: UN'IDEA CHE SI TRASFORMA / The Educating City: a Transforming Idea.

La tesi esamina le principali rappresentazioni della città contemporanea ponendone in luce, tra risorse e contraddizioni, l’essenza “umana” e la rilevanza strategica in prospettiva pedagogica. Sulla scorta di una cornice teorica interdisciplinare la ricerca affronta, con un approccio critico-ermeneutico, lo studio del particolare costrutto della “Città Educativa”, proponendo un affondo su come esso si sia sviluppato in seno ad una rete internazionale (Associazione Internazionale delle Città Educative). Lo studio di caso di alcune città-membro della rete ha consentito di approfondire, nel rispetto delle peculiarità di ciascun contesto, alcuni aspetti caratteristici di ciascuna Città Educativa in esame: quali i valori impliciti della sua azione politico-educativa? Quali le esperienze maggiormente significative e generative? Quali gli attori strategici? Attraverso un approccio multi-metodo (analisi documentaria, interviste, osservazioni sul campo, analisi statistica del testo), ciascun caso è stato quindi esplorato guardando attraverso i diversi livelli del “sistema urbano”, al fine di restituirne uno sguardo complessivo e dinamico. Dagli studi è stato altresì possibile rilevare una trasversale crucialità del sistema familiare e delle relazioni intergenerazionali rispetto alla costruzione di processi urbani comunitari e partecipati. Alla luce tanto del quadro epistemologico-interpretativo, quanto dei risvolti empirici emersi, si propongono infine alcune possibili prospettive euristico-pedagogiche per una città educativa che guarda all’orizzonte pedagogico della comunità educante. / This work examines the main representations about contemporary city enlightening, between contradictions and possibilities, its “humane” feature and its educational relevance from a pedagogical point of view. Throughout an interdisciplinary theoretical framework and a critical-hermeneutic approach, the research deepens the peculiar concept of “Educating City”, in particular inside an international network (the International Association of Educating Cities). Across some case-studies about network city-members, conducted considering the peculiarities of each context, it was possible to answer some critical questions: which are, in each local educational policy, the implicit values? Which experiences are mostly generative and significant? Which are the strategic social actors? The multi-method approach adopted (documentary analysis, interviews, field observations, text statistics analysis) allowed to explore each case through the different levels of “urban system”, to give back a complex and dynamic perspective about it. Cases highlighted as well a transversal cruciality of familiar system and intergenerational relationships to promote urban processes of participation and community-building. Finally, in the light both of the epistemological-interpretative framework and of empirical evidences, several educational perspectives and proposals were individuated, coherently to an educating city which embodies the idea of educating community.
