The spectacle and performance of bloggersTsao, Ya-Ling 27 September 2007 (has links)
The rise of the internet has aroused the rage of blog.Although blog is a kind of newly arisen personal communication medium, it has been in widespread use.Currently there are already more than 2,000,000 bloggers in Taiwan. However, we don¡¦t know much about them.
While blog is gradually considered a necessity by more and more people, at the same time, how do bloggers perform to express themselves in the spectacular and performative society? When bloggers notice that they are watched by strange audience, would it affect their performance on blogs? When bloggers face different kinds of audience with different interpersonal relationship, what would they do?
However, relevant studies in the past rarely discuss the ¡§performance¡¨and¡§be watched¡¨parts of bloggers together or even any deep research into the performance behavior of bloggers. Therefore, this research attempts to make a more detailed description and interpretation about how bloggers be watched and perform. The research questions are as follows:
First, how do bloggers feel when they¡§are watched¡¨by audience?
Second, do bloggers perform because they want to be watched? How do they
perform when they are watched?
Third, when facing different kinds of audience, how do bloggers make their
own audience segregation?
As a result, I adopt the qualitative research method to explore the experience of student bloggers by not only the using behavior but also the deeper meaning behind their performance. The data are collected via in-depth interview with over 4 male and 4 female graduate students between 20 to 30 years-old who own at least more than one personal journal blog. Besides, I analyzed the data with the structure of the interpersonal relationship such as love, friendship, family and stranger...etc. I tried to describe when bloggers face different kinds of audience, either close or alienated, how they would perform in their blogs. Let¡¦s wait and see how bloggers perform with their audience wonderfully!

The Performance and Spectacle on the Micro blog-- using ¡§Plurk¡¨ as A Field of StudyWu, Shou-Hong 08 August 2010 (has links)
Due to the rise of social networking, people spend more time on the Internet. They not only make friends and express their emotion in the real life, but also in the virtual world. In the stage of the Internet, which without limit in time and space, we can even perform so that other people can spectacle and join us. Hence, through the IT design functions which social network websites offer, how users can perform or spectacle easily on the social network websites, and what the meaning is about the action-dramas which users have performed.
A private blog-Plurk, which we also called micro blog, is using as a field of study. In this thesis, we use Ethnography survey to observe and interview the users. We use Coffman¡¦s Dramaturgical approach as the study framework, and divide it into five parts- Front Stage Style, Team Management, Role Play, Impressions Control and Intimate Relationship to analyze. In the data analysis, we compare IT function design and performing dramas. We will find out what the affordance the IT function can offer, and what the drama will perform. Finally, we will sort out the implications of the management and social capital.
From this thesis we can learn:
1. What kind of IT functions offer to users on Plurk?
2. Through these IT functions, what kind of action-dramas will perform?
3. What are the implications and meanings of all these action-dramas?
This thesis focus on the performing dramas and IT affordance because of the difference between IT function offer and design, the action-dramas will perform quite different, and the IT affordance will facilitate different key point. Therefore, from this thesis we hope that we can figure out some important functions and reasons that people is willing to stay longer on our website and some instructions for the website designers.

Interpreting the Organ Works of Hugo DistlerMcKinney, David LeRoy January 2006 (has links)
The document examines Hugo Distler’s organ solo works within the context of performance. Chapter One contains relevant biographical information primarily based on the work of Ursula Herrmann. Chapter Two discusses the cultural, academic, and career influences on Distler’s compositional output. Chapter Three has analyses of select organ works and a discussion as to how these relate to performance. Chapter Four provides information about the playing and physical execution of Distler’s music at the organ console, with much of the information coming from primary sources written by Distler himself. Distler was born out of wedlock in Nürnberg. His early childhood was fraught with bad experiences. Under the guardianship of his maternal grandparents, he attended a Gymnasium and a music academy. When he was later unable to complete his studies at the Leipzig Conservatory, his teachers provided him with excellent recommendations, and Distler became the new organist at St. Jakobi in Lübeck in 1931. In this new environment, he became famous as a church musician, organist, conductor, and composer - the par excellence of German music. His other positions were in academia in Stuttgart and Berlin, and he eventually became a full professor. Due to the repression by the Nazi party, constantly being overworked, and the impact of his early childhood upon his psyche, Distler committed suicide on All Saints Day, November 1, 1942. Distler became the first person to compose music for the organ in a modern style that was suited for the sound of the Baroque organ. His organ music is based on vocal techniques, experiments with rhythm, uses a variety of scales and modes, and is generally pentatonic. The ideology of clarity in Distler’s works is of utmost importance. It should be apparent that this dictates the performer’s choices regarding how to interpret them. Registration, tempi, and articulation are servants to the composition. Performers of his music need to remain cognizant of this.

Performing KnitsHeinesen, Sofie Frederikke Sølvhøj January 2022 (has links)
The broader intention of this work is to investigate knitted textiles as interactive pieces, where changeable qualities embedded in the knit design are activated through movement. The main objective is to provide a novel perspective of the role and perception of knitted materials in a performative context. Presenting a shift from previously seen static knitted material to incorporating knit design to create knitted pieces that have the opportunity to enhance and take part. Due to the moving body being an activator of the changeability embedded in the knitted textile design, the work has a strong connection to related fields such as contemporary dance and performance. The work is carried out through practice-based research, where experimentation both in terms of technical development of knit design and their performative possibilities are used to obtain knowledge. The interrelation between knit, changeability, performativity and movement are researched through a series of experiments. The result of this work provides a variety of knitted pieces, each with their unique properties in regards to changeability and performativity, as well as a film of a performance where one can experience the knitted pieces and their properties during movement.

The psychological well being of learners affected by HIV/AIDS / Tsihoane Maria TenyaneTenyane, Tsihoane Maria January 2006 (has links)
The aims of this research were to investigate the condition of the psychological well being of learners affected or orphaned by HIV/AIDS; investigate the way in which these learners perform at schools, investigate the nature and extent of social support these learners get from their families, community and society; investigate the condition of the physical well being of these learners; and make recommendations for their psychosocial support in order to enhance and strengthen their psychological well being. Findings from the literature review revealed that when HIV infected parents fall ill and die as a result of AIDS, usually a child or adolescent's life also often falls apart. This is an indication that with HIV and AIDS effects, the hardships hit well before children and adolescents are orphaned. This is to say, first a parent or breadwinner becomes ill with HIV or AIDS, and is unable to work. Then the entire family feels the economic impact - for example, children especially girls, must often drop out of school to go to work so that they can provide food for the family, care for their ill parents and look after their siblings. Such a phenomenon leads to the following psycho social problems in the lives of these children and adolescents: experience of grief and bereavement among children and adolescents affected by HIV/AIDS; introduction of major social change which may involve moving from a middle or upper -class urban home to a poor rural relative's home. It may involve separation from siblings, which is often done arbitrarily when orphaned children are divided among relatives without due considerations of their needs; increase in new labour responsibilities and instances of labour and work responsibility being given to children as young as five. Responsibilities and work in the household also include domestic chores, subsistence agriculture and provision of care giving to very
young, old and ill members of the household. Work outside of the home
may involve a variety of formal and informal labour, including farm work
and begging for food and supplies in both community and beyond; a phenomenon of irregular school attendance and absconding from school; suffering from malnutrition and may not have access to available health services; vulnerability to HIV infection. Their risk for infection arises from the early onset of sexual activity, commercial sex and sexual abuse, all of which may me precipitated by economic need, peer pressure, lack of supervision, exploitation and rape; likelihood that as the ratio of the dependent children increases as a result of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, so will the chances of children being lured into trafficking and sexual exploitation; and manifestations of negative emotional responses such as fear, anger, depression, anxiety, feelings of dependency and so on.
Findings from the empirical research revealed that learners who formed the population sample of this research are unhappy and sad to see their family members, that is, their parents and breadwinners, being ill, and as a result their health is also psycho socially affected; they do not have and cannot afford school uniform and there are no people or relatives who can help them with money to buy school uniform; and their mental health is not in good condition and that they had been ill, suffering from stress in the last six months. Recommendations with psycho-educational implications were made in the last chapter. / Thesis (M.Ed.)--North-West University, Vaal Triangle Campus, 2006.
