The relationship between individual variables and attitudes towards the personal use of computers

Waddell, Christopher Duncan 04 1900 (has links)
In current times, to function successfully in the work environment, the ability to use a computer is essential. The introduction of computers into organisations has often met with resistance. The reason for this resistance must be identified and overcome if businesses are to realise the productivity gains of full computer usage. On the basis of the abovementioned problem the objective of this study is to test the relationship between age, sex, locus of control and personality type and attitudes toward computer use. A theoretical investigation was carried out to gather information on the variables under study which was used to compare with the results of the empirical study. From this study of 68 white collar respondents from a financial institution it can, in general, be concluded that peoples' attitude toward the personal use of computers is positive and not affected by the individual variables tested. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M. Words and phrases used in written communication by eight personality types as measured by the Myers-Briggs type indicator : a contribution to the theory

Short, Elizabeth Anne January 2005 (has links)
Written communication is an integral part of any organisation regardless of size or the nature of its business. The writer chooses words that should be understood by the readers. However, these words have been chosen based on a variety of factors, one of which is personality type, and the writer's personality type may differ from that of the readers. The research question underpinning this study is - In what ways, if at all, do personality types (as determined by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and most frequently found in management positions), select and use different words and phrases when writing business communication? To investigate this question, the psychological type theory of Jung, the personality type theory of Briggs and Myers, and organisational communication theory are applied. The methodology used is descriptive research with the documents analysed using content analysis, employing NUD.IST Vivo in conjunction with manual assessment. The research findings confirm that each personality type does use different words, validating personality type theory and therefore, making a contribution to the expanding body of research in this field. The knowledge gained from this study has significance in areas related to organisations as well as education and communication theory.

The relationship between personality preference groupings and emotional intelligence

Baptista, Monica Regina Rodrigues 10 1900 (has links)
An exploratory study was undertaken to investigate the relationship between personality preference groupings, as described by Jung’s (1959) type theory, and emotional intelligence, as measured by Bar-On’s emotional intelligence quotient (Bar-On, 1997). The sample group consisted of 1 121 recruitment candidates for a South African investment bank. The sixteen personality types, as measured by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, were represented in the sample. The statistical analysis conducted for this study included comparison of means, correlation analysis and analysis of variance. The results indicated statistically significant relationships between the preferences of Extroversion, Judgement, their combined preference grouping and emotional intelligence. No statistically significant relationships were found between the preference groupings of Intuition and Thinking, Sensing and Thinking, Intuition and Feeling, and Sensing and Feeling. The preferred Feeling preference type consistently scored the lowest in terms of emotional intelligence scores. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M.A. (Industrial and Organisational Psychology

Lydén, Elina, Svensson, Tove January 2020 (has links)

Is there a relationship between personality type, stress and well-being?

Hanna, Jokimaa January 2020 (has links)
The working life gets more and more boundaryless, the line between private and working life is blurred out and at the same time the sick leave for stress increases. Can personality traits predict perceived stress and well-being? It could be applied to the workplace and contribute to a more healthy life style. Perceived stress scale is the most used questionnaire for stress, the well-being form shows excellent reliability and good validity. Within personality theories, the big five Inventory model (neuroticism, extraversion, openness, kindness and conscientiousness) represents the traits of personality. According to previous research, neuroticism been predicted as a stress factor. Four hypotheses were tested and the purpose of the study was to predict how different personality traits can affect well-being and the tendency to experience stress. The study involved 1545 participants between 18-71 years old in Sweden. Correlation analyzes and multiple regression analyzes were performed. The question is supported in the study, personality traits can predict perceived stress and well-being. There was a clear correlation between the variables stress and all personality dimensions.
