De Kock, Helene January 2014 (has links)
The primary aim of this study in creative writing is research into an aspect of the writing process, namely the creation of spatial dynamics in a novel. This objective required the creation of an artefact. A novel titled Somersneeu was written in order to examine the very process of generating spatial dynamics in this novel in particular, as well as in the novel as such. Somersneeu was published by Human & Rousseau in 2010. Practice-based as well as practice-led research was fundamental to this study. An artistic creator registers intellectually whatever unfolds during the creative process and so new knowledge can simultaneously be created. The process of creating a work of art as well as the reflection thereon is fundamental to practice-led research. In other words, the creative process of an artefact like the novel Somersneeu is the source of a certain kind of knowledge that gradually emerges and can eventually be verbalised. Therefore a design concept for creating spatial dynamics may be articulated. It is a fact that a definite coherence exists between space and spatial dynamics. These two concepts are in reality inseparable and this cohesion is what is also being investigated in this study. Space actually consists of spatial dynamics since all the different facets of space, concrete as well as abstract, have definite and inseparable repercussions upon one another, causing a dynamic interaction among all facets of space. Apart from concrete or physical space, numerous abstractions of space take part in this interplay. These spatial abstractions are, for instance culture, identity, zeitgeist and the all-encompassing human psyche. The intense interplay among all the facets of space triggers spatial dynamics. This is the case in real life as well as in fiction. The above mentioned discussion of space and spatial dynamics is followed by an intense and heuristic view of the process of creating spatial dynamics. In order to create spatial dynamics in a novel, a novelist should have a strong sense of place. The essence of creating spatial dynamics in a novel consists mainly of the transformation of sense of place. The main aim of this study is then to present a design concept for the creation of spatial dynamics in a novel. This design concept may be used by other writers in order to create spatial dynamics in a novel. The novel Somersneeu as well as the questionnaire, reception documents and a list of publications of the writer are included as appendixes. / PhD (Afrikaans and Dutch), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014

Combrink, Anneretha January 2010 (has links)
Thesis (Ph.D. (Afrikaans and Dutch))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2011.

Several studies conducted since the beginning of the new millennium shows the importance of integrating internal practices with suppliers and external customers. Supply Chain Quality Management (SCQM) increases the adoption of practices previously directed towards company and product, highlighting the importance of integrating supply chain members, with the goal of continuous quality improvement of products, services or processes. Although there are numerous studies that emphasize practices of quality and integration simultaneously in the elaboration of their constructs, they do not investigate how these concepts relate to each other. And while there have been recent studies that quantify the relationship between integration and quality practices, none of them have evaluated the effect of integration with regard to mediating the relationship between quality and performance practices. Therefore, this research’s main research question deals with how the different levels of supply chain integration affect the performance results originated from the adoption of quality practices. In other to answer this question, this research will be based on practice-based-view (PBV) and adopt qualitative and quantitative methods. It will use a meta-analysis, a quantitative method to combine data from quality and performance practices. Survey results measured how these practices, moderated by different levels of integration, impact performance. Finally, it was identified via semistructured interviews how the adoption of different quality practices interferes at different levels of integration. The meta-analysis mapped 562 correlations in 38 articles covering 16.333 sample units. It shows the correlation between the adoption of quality practices and organizational performance to be 0.182 and 0.242 for organizational and operational performance, respectively. The results of a survey applied to quality and supply chain managers and leaders revel that integration has a significant moderating effect on the relationship between the adoption of quality practices and operational performance. In general, higher levels of integration present better performance results. In other words, when the company integrates only internally, performance results can lead to loss. The effect tends to decrease as the level of integration rises. A significant effect from the leader's experience was also identified. Finally, a total of 22 semi-structured interviews reveal that more often than expected, the integration of quality practices is developed by necessity, such as when a company needs to access its supply chain to solve a specific quality problem related to a product or a raw material, or when a company is required to disclose quality levels through certifications in order to be able to close contracts with key customers which will bring significant gains to the company’s performance. As integration advances, it has the potential to be assimilated into the company’s culture, thereby establishing an integrative routine from which partners are able to learn through daily exchange of information, in turn leading to new opportunities for continuous improvement. Finally, the research shows innovation to be a mediator factor in the relation and integration between quality practices and performance, which will be crucial to direct future research.

[en] THE SKY IS THE LIMIT, BUT IT IS INDISPENSABLE TO KEEP FEET ON THE GROUND: A (RE)CREATION OF ACTION STANDARDS IN A HIGHLY REGULATED ENVIRONMENT / [pt] O CÉU É O LIMITE! MAS É IMPERATIVO MANTER OS PÉS NO CHÃO: A (RE)CRIAÇÃO DOS PADRÕES DE AÇÃO EM AMBIENTE ALTAMENTE REGULAMENTADO

NICÁSSIA FELICIANA NOVÔA 18 December 2017 (has links)
Nesse contexto, o céu é o limite para criatividade dos atores / [en] How are action patterns (re) created in a highly regulated environment? This study aims to present theoretical propositions about how more people experience adaptive routines in a highly regulated environment, but the patterns of action are recomposed and legitimized from the repertoire of practices. Due to its effective role in organizing and its generative power to produce new patterns of action over time (PENTLAND and HAEREM, 2015), routines were applied as units of analysis to understand the constituent elements of the adaptive routine in the social context PENTLAND et al., 2011) of a highly regulated organization, besides allowing the analysis of how the process of (re) creation of action patterns occurs on the basis of Practice-Based Studies (FELDMAN and ORLIKOWSKI, 2011). The regulation was analyzed by addressing the dimensions presented in the work of Pentland (1995), focusing on the organizational structure, culture, technology, coordination and processes, applied to the constructivist model of Orlikowski (2000), which contributed to the construction of the macro view of different Contexts present in the social practices analyzed in the organization. After constructing the macro view of the highly regulated environment context, the Dionysiou and Tsoukas (2013) symbolic interactional generative system model was applied, which provided an understanding of how patterns of action in practice are created, shared, maintained and Altered collectively, by means of collective interaction cycles from the paper-making mechanism of Mead (1934). Thus, through the method of the symbolic interactionist case study, field research was divided into two stages. In the first stage of data collection, a direct observation was performed, which occurred from August 22 to October 14, 2016, generating primary data of the in loco practices, evidenced by field notes, and secondary data Document analysis of the company s internal policies, normative documents, multiple quality management system documents such as work instructions, forms from different sectors and information on IT technologies and systems to carry out company procedures. The second stage of data collection took place through the interviews with 24 people, to capture the actors perception of their practices. The data were systematized by the content analysis (BARDIN, 2011) with the aid of the ATLAS.ti system. The results of the study presented three different ways in which patterns of action may vary in a highly regulated environment, thus maintaining that the type of agencement (GHERARDI, 2016), in other words, the type of connections established in the relationship between agents, agency, (Management Style, Functional Area Type, Accountability, Team Integration, Experience, Cognitive, Motivation, Engagement) Of Personal Resources, Affective Engagement, and Network Amplitude) that all of these aspects together affect the variation of action patterns. Another relevant aspect is the greater the need to include individuals from different groups (other areas and different hierarchical levels) in the collective consensual validation process, the greater the need for interaction cycles for the alignment of actions and, thus, increases The complexity of this process, in addition to reducing its dynamics and fluidity for the adaptation of the actors actions in the face of the uncertainties of the context. Finally, the study proposes weightings for the literature of organizational routines in social practice, exploring the adaptive routines in a highly regulated environment that induce (re) recomposition of action patterns from the repertoire of practices. In this context, the sky is the limit for the creativity of actors to (re) create their action patterns, but it is imperative to keep your feet on the ground revering the mantle of regulation.

Andersson, Klara January 2019 (has links)
This thesis is based on my own experiences of dancing Halling, a type of folk dance. Halling is commonly referred to as a male or masculine dance. This has been entangled in the problems I have had with the dance, as I have felt uncomfortable performing all the movements to their full extent. Therefore, I have researched my experiences of this dance through a practical study with a focus on specific movements that I have struggled with. Combining the findings of my practical study with theories about feminism, gender and masculinity has shown me that, while my problem is complex, it is nevertheless possible to structure into two parts of my own understanding. The first part concerns the movement that make up the dance. Through my research I was able to deal with some of the problems that I had with specific movements, and this led me to the conclusion that the movements of Halling in themselves do not have to be problematic in a gendered way. The second part concerns Halling within its context, and the way that its representation and the expectations surrounding it affect me and my dancing. The study has also shown me that being a pedagogical role model is a very complex situation where it is not only important for me to be aware of the choices I make but also the person I am in the teaching situation. /
