The feasibility of Montessorian education in the primary school : an historico-educational expositionMartin, Clive James 11 1900 (has links)
Maria Montessori's work was initiated in 1898 as a result of her
becoming acutely aware of deficient children's learning patterns,
while working at the Psychiatric clinic of the University of
Rome. The principles which dominate the system, however, did not
·'"spring in full panoply from Montessori. Indeed, her inspiration
came largely from early and mid-nineteenth century writings of
two French physicians, Itard and Seguin, who were Also involved
in the teaching of deficient children. Extending on the ideas of
these two educator-physicians, as well as the ideas of Froebe!,
Montessori innovatively brought the child's senses into contact
with carefully selected didactic apparatus in a carefully
structured and ordered environment.
According to Montessori, the liberty of the child is a
prerequisite for self-education and forms the first major pillar
of her didactic theory, and thus becomes the focus of the first
chapter dealing with her didactic approach (chapter three) •
Montessori believed that the function of education was to assist
growth and if the individual child was given the liberty of
movement within a prepared environment, a sense of competence
would be achieved and the learning of the child would come about
almost spontaneously. The principles of individuality and the
training of the senses comprise the other two pillars, and form
the basis for chapter four and five respectively. The principle
of individuality is rooted in the belief that each child has a
uniqueness which cannot be ignored without irretrievable damage
to his personality.
The current educational situation in South Africa, reveals a
diversity of educational problems as a result of different ethnic
and cultural groups all being thrust into a common educational
system. The insidious pressures of conformity to a single
standard of education must of necessity lead to a compromise of
'"standards. The exposure of educational deficiencies inherent in
such a move is characterised by learning impediments and
deficiencies in the educational scenario. Research has therefore
been undertaken in an attempt to extract those aspects that could
provide meaningful pedagogic assistance to meet a present
educational need. / Educational Studies / D. Ed. (History of Education)

A strategy to facilitate transition from masters degree nursing studies to PhD/doctoral thesis proposal writingZvandasara, Lynette 06 1900 (has links)
Background: Challenges in thesis proposal writing have resulted in doctoral students
dropping from research studies resulting in the shortage of doctoral prepared nurses.
Impediments include lack of human and non-human resources. Benner’s theory of
novice to expert formed the basis for the development of the strategic intervention and
action plan to address the challenges and strengths experienced by master’s prepared
doctoral students during thesis proposal writing
Purpose: The purpose of this research was to develop a strategic intervention and
action plan that can be used to assist doctoral students to succeed in thesis proposal
writing.
Methods: An exploratory mixed-methods approach combining qualitative and
quantitative data collection and analysis in four phases was used. In Phase 1 qualitative
data from two open-ended questions were used to gather data, combined with literature
to develop a questionnaire for Phase 2. A questionnaire was developed from data
obtained from Phase 2 as well as a thorough literature review to develop the strategic
intervention and Action plan. In Phase 4 the strategic intervention and action plan was validated using the Delphi technique and experts acted as panellists for the validation.
Framework: Benner’s novice to expert theoretical framework was adopted for the study
because of the assumption that doctoral students need a change of perception and
assistance in order to develop critical thinking skills that will enhance the development
of research competencies. This framework was used because of its relevance to the
study.
Research Findings: Competence in doctoral thesis proposal writing is affected by
human resources as well as non-human resources. The identified strategic interventions
that were included in the action plan were: recruitment of competent supervisors,
training and mentoring of new supervisors, achieving of a realistic student/supervisor
ratio for supervision of students, timely allocation of supervisors, recruiting of subject
librarians and employment of adequate library support, provision of peer support
programmes, implementation of a student recruitment and selection plan, provision of
student support programmes to enhance research skills and competencies, binding
contracts to stipulate students responsibility, provision of adequate research resources,
and implementation of a bursary system among others.
Conclusion: The strategic intervention and action plan was developed using the input
of doctoral nursing students who were in the process of completing their thesis proposal
and a thorough literature review. The inclusion of the deans of nursing of universities
and universities of technology of South Africa (FUNDISA) will enhance the possibility for
the implementation of the strategic intervention and action plan which can contribute to
assisting the master’s prepared doctoral students to successfully transition from novice
students with little or no research knowledge to competent thesis proposal writers. / Health Studies / D. Litt. et Phil. (Health Studies)

Avaliação da qualidade higiênico-sanitária e nutritiva de bentôs comercializados no bairro da Liberdade, São Paulo / Evaluation of the hygienic-sanitary and nutritional quality of benthos marketed in Liberdade, São PauloAgnes Hanashiro 14 March 2002 (has links)
Food safety has become one of the biggest concerns to public health authorities, in view of the millions of victims of foodborne diseases world spread. Face to the social and economical changes in the societies, the public health risks are arising. As a reflex, the popularity of street food commerce exposes the consumers\' health to other threats. Bento is an ancient Japanese tradition of bringing ready-to-eat meals wherever you are, which surpassed the modem way of life and is still a convenience way to have a fast meal. But face to the trading features and composition its quality is doubtful. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the nutritional and microbiological qualities of bentos sold at the oriental district, in São Paulo. Sixty samples were purchased during spring and summer seasons from 17 points of sale and they were classified according to their epidemiological risk. The macronutrients were determined and the sanitary conditions were evaluated through the research of coliform organisms, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus and Salmonella spp. The samples composition ranged from raw fish to :full course meals. The nutritive value presented a large variation and the average proportions of macronutrients in relation to the total energy value was 16% of protein, 19% of lipids and 65% of carbohydrates. The portion energy value ranged from 136 to 885Cal. B. cereus posed the greatest percentage risk of contamination, among the pathogens. The hygienic conditions of the bentos were critical in 65% of the samples. No statistical difference was observed in the microbiological counts related to the sample collection season or its sort. In general, 73.3% of the samples were unsuitable for consumption and considering the time-temperature abuse such proportion can reach higher degrees. The consumption of bentos poses a potential health hazard, showing to be necessary greater investments in health education for every sector of the food chain, including the consumers, as an effective way of inhibiting the risks to public health.

”I heard that’s the thing here…” My Alcohol Diary.Söderlund, Tova January 2024 (has links)
Sydkoreansk populärkultur konsumeras i dag i hela världen. / South Korean popular culture has grown increasingly popular in the last few years. A rather unexplored genre within the newly defined south Korean genre “ontact” is the growing number of ”variety”-esque shows on YouTube. With the help of a doxic topoi analysis, this thesis explores the implications of the intercultural meeting between Lee Young Ji and Danish singer Christopher Lund Nissen on the show My Alcohol Diary. Four articles about the episode is also object of the study. This thesis uses Ruth Amossy's understanding of doxa and LuMing Mao's concept "rhetorical way-making". In the topic categories of language, age and hierarchy, and relationships, this thesis concludes that Christopher and Lee are made to represent their cultures even though their representation is hinged on the situation and their different backgrounds. The differences are played through personas which adds a layer of self-representation to the conversation. The relationship between the two is asymmetric in their cultural doxas.
