Utveckling av produktionslayout av monteringsavdelning på GARO AB / Development of the production layout of the assembly department at GARO AB

Huynh, Nhi January 2012 (has links)

EFFEKTIVISERING AV INTERN MATERIALHANTERING / MAKE INTERNAL MATERIAL HANDLING MORE EFFICIENT

Ishak, Martin, Andersson, Andreas January 2013 (has links)
Considering that the current technology is constantly improving, it becomes increasingly important to have an efficient logistics in a company to maintain profitability while achieving a competitive business. Efficient logistics may be accomplished by improving the internal materials handling. In this thesis the internal material handling of steel frames has been studied at a factory in Vaggeryd. The goal of this study is to investigate the problems that exist with the current production flow of products and provide suggestions on how it can be developed to reduce unnecessary handling and movement. The study has a deductive approach where the authors has been using literature studies parallel with empirical analyzes conducted at a company to achieve the purpose of the study. Documentation from the company and interviews with staff and observations form the basis for the data collection carried out. Based on this choice of method, the authors have identified possible problems in the internal material handling at the company and by using well known theories they have accomplished a result. The authors present the improvement proposals in two different ways. The first, specific suggestions, involving problems caused by different rates of operation times, poor communication between operations, poor designed production layout which leads to inefficient material handling of steel frames. These specific suggestions for improvement has led to the second, overall suggestions for improvement, which the authors presents a proposal for a new production layout. The overall improvement proposed by the authors is to switch to a hybrid solution in terms of production system. Merging operations such as painting, installation and packaging in terms of a line, turns out to make the internal materials handling more efficient. Finally, the study ends with a discussion of the results and the method used in this thesis.

Flödesanalys hos Anders Karhner AB

Gustafsson, Marcus, Ferm, Robert January 2006 (has links)
This report has been performed at Anders Krahner AB in Skillingaryd which is a part of Proton Group AB. Year 2005 Proton Group had a turnover of 920 smkr with 730 employees while Anders Krahners turnover was 160 smkr with 90 employees. Anders Krahners customers are mostly within the automobile industry. The aim of this report is to study the possibility to optimize the production flow for two articles in the existing premises. By studying the factors that have a negative impact on the throughput time give proposal of how this can overcome. The question is if this can be done in existing premises or if a new premise is required. The study has been made from raw material stock until the delivery of the end product to the customer. All the facts have been required from Anders Krahners MPS system and are based on one year’s basis. The average time for the processes and the stock has been calculated from this data. The planed times for the operations has also been collected from their MPS system. To gain an understanding for the production a layout flowchart has been made. Throughout analysis of these the total internal transport stretch has been calculated. It is shown in the result that the planed operation times equal the actual operation times quite well. This interpret that the operations works well out of a time perspective, but there is a lack of quality at the products. A thing that influences the throughput time negative is the time for raw material- and middle material stock. More reasons to the complex internal transport today are the lack of nearness between operations. A part of the operations that are made in the process in completing the articles are made external. These operations create some of the complicated internal logistics. To create the wanted nearness between the operations new layouts have been created in the existing premises. Some of the operations that are made external before have been suggested to be made in house. Due to this a greater control over the entire flow is received and higher product quality. The main difference between the suggested layout in the existing premises and a new one is considered to be small.

Managing the development of a functional layout in the pharmaceutical industry

Högman, Fredrik January 2016 (has links)
Laws and regulations are controlling and have generated great impact on the pharmaceutical industry and putting high requirements on production to follow good manufacturing procedures. There is a high pressure on production to decrease the time-to-volume for new products implementations due to the long product development phases where the medicine product patent life only have 35-40% left when production can start. This have generated that production have applied a way of thinking when developing production lines that have a tendency of becoming a scale up over time where a new production line is added to the production plant to be able to produce the volume needed for customers. Astra Zeneca, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, predicts a future where they will need to handle more products launches parallel where the new product will be produced both in small and large volumes to new customers. In this thesis a single case study have been performed at where a new product is being implemented, the project Genuair at Astra Zeneca Sweden operations in Södertälje. This thesis have be executing with the overall aim of supporting the development of a new layout, a functional layout. The project Genuair is a project where a new product is introduced in a new way, by buying a patent. The project is in the beginning of building the first production line that have a continuous flow layout and there is already a plan to build a second production line to be able to produce the needed volume. The predicted future for the Genuair products is in line with the general predicted future within Astra Zeneca generating a need for higher volume flexibility and higher product-mix flexibility. This change will have an impact on the current Genuair production layout generating a decreasing of 45 % in volume output after analyzing the production line by building a simulation model. The current production layout is facing different limitations where long complex changeovers is the main reason for the decreasing in volume output. The current layout is also generating limitations where production is limited by equipment, vulnerable for shutdowns, laws and regulations and the need for fulfilling the capabilities of safety, health and environment, quality, deliverability and cost. A functional layout is presented that builds on achieving volume flexibility, product-mix flexibility and expansion flexibility. The introduction of a functional layout will generate challenges within the areas of laws and regulations, compliance, location of machines in different hygiene zones, traceability, material handling, the product-process matrix and the mind set within Astra Zeneca. The functional layout is analyzed by the development of a simulation model and compared to the current production layout and proven to handle the predicted future by primarily handling the changeovers in a different way that is the main limitation that follows by having a need for high volume flexibility and product-mix flexibility within the pharmaceutical industry. The functional layout will generate a higher degree of flexibility that will come to the expense of cost.

Utveckling av metoden kunddrivet inköp : Inkludering av egentillverkade artiklar / Development of the method customer driven purchasing : Including manufactured items

Andersson, Felicia, Folke, Amanda January 2016 (has links)
Purpose – The purpose of the study was to develop the CDP-method to include also manufacturing items. In order to help answering the purpose, three questions have been defined: Which data and analytical tools in the CDP-method affect manufactured items? Which tools should be added in the second phase in order to analyse manufactured items? Which additional data should be included in the first phase in order to include manufactured items? Method – The procedure for the study contain a literature study, case study and an analytical conceptual approach. In order to answer the first question, a case study was performed with interviews, observations and document studies at Kinnarps, Skillingaryd. The received data were interpret and analysed in relation to the theoretical framework that generated a result. In order to answer the second and third question, an analytical conceptual approach were conducted from previous theories that later was compiled in a model. Findings – Step one to four in the first phase and step seven and eight in the second phase of the CDP-method affect manufactured items. A model for included manufactured items has been created where analytical tools and data are presented that should be investigated. The tools that are introduced are based on theories within value stream mapping, material handling and a model for make-or-buy-decision. Based on these tools, it could be interpreted which data that should be created for manufactured items. Implications – It appears in this study that no new literature has been created but combinations of already existed theories are presented. The theory within the CDP- method could be changed from results that were founded when the CDP-method was applied at the case company. This is presented in the bachelor thesis seventh chapter. Companies that apply the CDM-method could increase the knowledge for customer driven manufacturing and improve the company internally. The method also assists when analysing both external and internal flows. Limitations – Today the CDP-method is relative new and not applied outside the context that it is designed for. One result of this is that the authors have not confirmed these literatures by other researcher. The focus has been to find theories to customer driven manufacturing within value stream mapping material handling and so on. It would have been desirable if additional literature studies could be performed in order to find appropriate development areas. Keywords – CDP-method, material handling, SWOT-analysis, supply chain, make- or-buy analysis, value stream mapping, production layout, total cost of ownership.

Fokusering av produktionslayouten på ett litet företag : En fallstudie på Svenska Maskinskyltfabriken / Focusing the production layout at a small company : A case study at Svenska Maskinskyltfabriken

Bahadori, Kazem, Almroth Berg, Gustav January 2020 (has links)
This thesis aims to find some arrangements to achieve a more logical flow throughout the production area of a small company, Svenska Maskinskyltfabriken (SMF-skylt). The flow through the factory has changed during the past years with new products in the assortment and other equipment available. Therefore, a need to develop the layout to adjust it to the current flow has arisen. This is partly to make the flow itself more efficient, but also to improve the manufacturing outputs which they are struggling with today. Since the case company is in an unstable economic situation and not able to imperil the revenue, the recommended changes must be divided into smaller steps, each economically affordable and building on the previous one. With a successive order, it will lower the barriers to commence the development process and eliminate long term stops in the manufacturing. According to existing theory, a focused factory with shorter transports and improved flow efficiency will benefit the manufacturing outputs, delivery precision and quality. To achieve the desired results several tools and methods have been used, for example “Learning to see”-map, correlation matrix, ABC-analysis and spagettidiagram. Using these tools, the number of transports between different stations have been mapped and shortened with focus on the most frequent ones. To analyze the results knowledge about lean production, production systems and sustainability have been vital. The work has been carried forward by scientific theories within this field, Operations Management. Although some of the theories used in this project have been adapted to the specific case, they form the scientific basis of the work. This scientific basis is then used to analyze both current state at SMFskylt, future suggested scenarios and the comparison between current state and future scenarios. All changes in the company’s layout is visualized in the report with clear maps, either if the change means a new door or another placement of the equipment. The result of these improvements is presented as numeric values in terms of reduced transport distance through the production area. By implementing these changes, the distance has been shortened by 21%, compared to today´s situation. Great emphasis should be put upon the improved flow which, through clearer patterns, helps the company to rectify its production system and at the same time take a step towards Lean production.

Improving Material Flows By Production Layout Conversion : A case study within the automotive industry / Förbättring av materialflöden genom konvertering av produktionslayout

Holmdahl, Björn January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate how material flows can be more efficient through the conversion from a functional-layout to a cellular-layout. The study wants to clarify how the production layout conversion can be used by organizations who are currently utilizing the functional production layout to become more efficient. For organizations to invest time and money, they must comprehend how the investment decreases waste, and the important aspects for their decision. To fulfill the purpose two research questions (RQ) are formed, these are: RQ1: What factors impact the decision between functional and cellular layout? RQ2: How can the material flows become more efficient through the conversion from a functional-layout to a cellular-layout? To answer the research questions, a case study was conducted at an organization within the automotive industry. Moreover, the method first used was a preliminary investigation to get a broader understanding of the research area. When the field of study was established, the data collection was accomplished by interviews, observations, and document studies. Moreover, a literature review was done to build a theoretical foundation and to answer one of the research questions. The case company is an organization producing in a high-cost country currently using the functional production layout. The findings of the study suggest what is impacting the decision when converting from a functional production layout to a cellular production layout, it is especially four dimensions that must be taken into consideration, these are: type of production system, production flow, product variation and volume. Further on, the case study suggests that the conversion from a functional to a cellular production layout can reduce the travel distance for the product family by 38.8 %, reduce the lead time by 24.2 % and reduce the amount of forklift lifts needed for the product family by 66.7 % at the case company. Moreover, the implications highlight and elaborate on the benefits of a production layout conversion for increasing the efficiency of material flows within a producing organization which utilizes the functional production layout. It sheds further light on how advantageous it may be to an organization when it comes to align with lean manufacturing concepts. The study offers organizations with a functional production layout an understanding of what they need to consider when and if they intend to move from a functional to a cellular production layout, thus the study gives evidence confirming the difference between the two different layouts regarding efficiency. The limitation of the study is results of the material flows improvements, since the results might be greater at the case company in comparison to other organizations using functional production layout. The study only conducts one case study, which means that the results are not necessarily generalizable. Therefore, it could be necessary to replicate the study in other organizations and contexts to see if the same results can be reached.

Gruvman, Joakim, Andersson, Johan January 2019 (has links)
Background: The business world is in constant change, which means that businesses must be able to adapt to these changes and constantly improve. The research field on how businesses should achieve a smart material supply is small, which emphasizes the importance of studying how a company can change its production layout to improve its internal logistics. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to increase the understanding of the production layout's importance for the material supply and the human aspect in production-related change work. Method: The study has used an abductive, exploratory approach to answer the purpose and the research questions. This means that studies of theories were done in parallel with studies of the empirical material at the case company PEPAB Produktionspartner AB. Theories from the literature and the empirical data have been analyzed and discussed in order to draw conclusions. Findings: The results are a description of the current internal material flow of four representative components and a description of employees´ attitude to change. By mapping the material flow, logistics flow factors and human related factors have been discovered.  Theoretical contribution: When changing the production starting from the logistic factors waiting, unnecessary inventory, unnecessary manufacturing, defects, unnecessary transportations and improperly designed production layout a better logistical flow and better material supply can be achieved. Combining this with a well-planned preparatory work with related training can make a successful change.  Practical contribution: This study contributes practically with a new production layout that enables a better logistical flow. It also emphasizes the importance of a well-thought-out and wellplanned preparatory work to maintain the staff´s sense of participation.
