Co-Teaching: Loss of professional space from the perspective of special education and general education teachers

Yates, Cordelia Azumi 01 January 2018 (has links) (PDF)
This study investigated the perspectives of special and general education teachers on the loss of their professional space because of the co-teaching program. This was accomplished through the qualitative methods of data collection and analysis, by in-depth semi-structured face-to-face interviews that were recorded using an electronic device and note taking. The interviews were conducted individually with six high school teachers from public schools, of which four were special education teachers and two were general education teachers. These interviews revealed that teachers defined professional space as personal identity and felt that the loss of their professional space emotionally impacted them. The interviews further revealed the lack of acceptance of the program by the teachers, who felt that administrative support was insufficient. Also, the findings revealed that the special education teachers felt marginalized and disrespected by the students in the co-taught classroom. This was largely because of the visual impact of the small space allocated to them in the co-taught general education classroom; while the general education teachers felt inconvenienced and pressurized into making space for the SPED teachers. The study concludes that school leaders, program developers, and policymakers should consider the perspectives of co-teachers and include them in the decision-making process before program implementation, thereby fostering teacher acceptance and program effectiveness, that would ultimately benefit the students. The key suggestions of this study are the need for the school district to hire new teachers, specifically for the co-taught program, and to provide training for both school leaders and the teachers.

Nehlin, Ida, Johansson, Mikaela January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate how social workers within LSS relate to her professional space in the writing practice. The method we used to collect data was through qualitative semi structured interviews. Our study found that when there are no clear guidelines for writing an investigation text, the responsibility falls on the individual social worker. The social worker has the ability to customize the language so that a user with low reading comprehension understands, but they choose not to because they are hindered by a strong idea from the organization that a representative of a authority should write correctly and professionally, which becomes a form of power.

An exploratory study conducted on digital spaces specified in the HRM of the french public territorial sector

Peng, Hongxia 30 October 2014 (has links)
Professional digital social networks, defined as interstitial professional digital spaces (IPDS) in this research, arouse, because of their emergent and ambivalent characteristics, empirical and academic questions. From an exploratory study conducted with an inductive and qualitative approach about the IPDS specified in the human resources management of the French public territorial sector, this research suggests, firstly, a systemic conceptualization in analysis of the IPDS’s functionaries, and second, an analysis of its management functionalities in the development of new HRM practices in this sector. Based on the autopoietic system theory of Niklas Luhmann (1928-1998), this research proposes a theoretical framework for analysis whereas the IPDS is a system with self-maintenance and a self-renewal process through communications between individuals who are both contributors and consumers, assembled by digital tools in interstitial spaces. The results stemming from the observation data show that, for HR professionals, IPDS are above all complementary professional tool with different features which can be illustrated as a public garden for broadening the mind, a window for observation, a mirror for self-examination, and a transmission belt for articulating HRM and IS. This work ends with reflection on the IPDS’s potentialities in a development of HR practices in the public territorial sector.

Fabrication de la ville contemporaine : processus et acteurs : le cas de l'agglomération bordelaise / The making of the contemporary city : process and actors : the case of the Bordeaux agglomeration

Godier, Patrice 04 December 2009 (has links)
In a context where urban problems forms of public action and systems of actors drastically change the ways to build the city these last decades, we must understand the logics of action that influence the dynamics of spatial and territorial changes. The analysis model is developed from the point of view of the urban sociology and is based on three important intercative processes. A strategic framing process whose reference system gives the standart in terms of a base of shared representations. A complicated organizational process (networking), involving ressources and persons whose actions and interventions need to be coordonated and controlled within a specifical technical, legal and organisatinal system (urban contracting owner). A process, of a precise, material and spatial translation aiming the concrete realization, on privileged territories of operations which on the basis of the initial intentions and within the framework of a space of specific activities, combine economic, political and symbolic objectives. The concept of urban project is the expression of the chaining of these three processes. Starting from a jointly defined issue on the scale of the city of agglomeration, it generates during a given time period a collective activity, mobilizes and recruits in each stage of all levels of responsabilities a plurality of actors around a serie of urban and architectural operations. The agglomeration of Bordeaux and its transformation over the period 1995-2006 is used as reference base.
