The global nature of today's business environment, coupled with technological advances, compels managers to work with an increasingly diverse workforce worldwide. Participants were 10 frontline management staff (middle and executive managers) with the required employee engagement skills involved in the decision-making process of a Nigerian bank. The conceptual framework for this study was rational choice theory, also called rational action theory or choice theory. Participants responded to 8 open-ended semistructured interview questions. The data collection process included validating and triangulating information gathered via member checking and review of archival business documents and peer-reviewed journals. Thematic analysis was used to analyze data from the study. Five key themes emerged from data analysis: recruitment, retention, and improvement of diverse talents; education and integration of employees with a divergent institutional heritage; engagement and leveraging of diverse stakeholders; business innovation, and productivity; and decision-making, and profitability. The implications of this study for social change include employee diversity management and strategic practices that contribute to effective decision-making process in the organization to improve socio-economic development of stakeholders (customers, board of directors, employees, policymakers and business contractors) and promote cohesion within bank staff and stakeholders resulting to improved business relationship and tolerance in society.

The United States and Israel : A study of attitude of the past five United State presidents toward Israel and the Middle East conflict

Sirmanshahi, Aida January 2020 (has links)
Throughout the past eighty years, the United States and Israel have had a close relationship. This study aims to understand and define patterns of behavior from presidents of the United States in their relation with Israel. The understanding of national interest and underlying pat- terns of the United States policies is what inspired the approach of the study, leading to the subject of defining a pattern in behavior. This study examines the relationship between Israel and the United States, focusing on one of the two actors, the United States, by looking at The United States presidencies following the end of the Cold War. By applying rational choice theory to secondary literature on the United State presidents George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Don- ald J. Trump, the results presented that pattern has been present for many years. All presi- dents have taken their own approach on maintaining the social, military, economical, and po- litical relationship, however one president has deprived from the given pattern of putting the countries best interest at the core. Meaning that a deprivation of national interest has taken place. Leading to going against national interest in the region.

Tomma ord och övergivna löften : En redogörelse om de rödgrönas miljö-och klimatpolitiska löften och genomförande

Bark, Tor January 2022 (has links)
Election promises and their fulfillment are subjects that have been studied quiete extensively within the academics, this thesis seeks to investigate how the promises given by the red-green block in Sweden during the mandate periods of 2014-2018 and 2018-2022 have or have not been fulfilled. The theoretical basis used in this thesis is that of Rational choice with Gunnar Sjöbloms three arenas that parties engage in and that of the responsible party model. In this study the method used is a theory consuming one, this type of method uses multiple theories on the same case and investigates how well each of them can explain the phenomena. The promises were taken from each of the parties manifestos from each mandate period and following this some were left out since they could not be fulfilled with national level policies. The results of the study showed that mandate period 1 followed previous results and studies quite well whilst mandate period 2 results differed from previous results. A number of factors could help explain this vast difference and with these variables accounted for the results became more in line with previous studies results. The study showed that for the most part parties do keep most of their promises to some degree but how these studies also must be conducted on a case by case basis to achieve the best results.

Mohammed, Samer January 2022 (has links)
The efforts of organized crime prevention in Sweden have significantly increased throughout the years and simultaneously has crime. With the joint efforts of the Swedish government, the police authority and other law enforcement agencies, several crime prevention methods have been utilized and applied such as the thirtyfour-point program. However, the root of the societal issues must also be addressed on a more profound level which requires making local decisions. The following study reveals and discusses the possibility to assess national human efforts and decisions as well as local procedures for the managing of organized delinquency and gang criminality. Legal actions in terms of methods such as Hot Spots, COP, POP, Pulling Levers, the Spergel-method and interventions to prevent upcoming criminality through home visit programs at early stages, are all proven to be effective approaches to combat criminality in today’s society. The Swedish crime prevention project “Sluta Skjut” is equivalent to the American “Group Violence Intervention” which are both assembling all diverse effective legal actions based on rational choices in one preemptive strategy. Establishments of partnerships between the police authority and other law enforcement as well as to implement suitable strategies and rightly divide resources are fundamental in organized crime prevention efforts.

Centerpartiet  fallet med mitten : En rationalistisk motivanalys av Centerpartiets vägval iregeringsfrågan 2018 och 2022

Saletti, Veronika January 2023 (has links)
The Center Party’s election results in 2022 was a great loss in comparison to the previous election. A distinguishing difference was the Center Party’s attitude to and choice of coalition partner where they 2018 proclaimed the Social Democrats to one of its main contenders along with the Sweden Democrats for to in the coming election express a will to partake in the same government as the Social Democrats, even though many party members and voters indicated that it wasn’t something they would prefer. This study therefore aims to explain the change in attitude by investigating underlying motives based on Gunnar Sjöblom’s rational theory about parties as strategic actors acting on three arenas: the internal arena, the electoral arena and the parliamentary arena. The arenas have different objectives and the motives are predefined based on these arenas to consist of reaching party cohesion, vote maximization and parliamentary power. Motive analysis is the method which is used to analyze the empirical material which is then analyzed in relation to the arena theories. The result shows that in similarity with previous research, a single motive cannot itself explain a party’s behaviour, however the motive indicators together with the party’s actions that the parliamentary arena’s motive showed to weigh heavier than the other motives.

The European Union position towards Israel-Palestine : Changes in position after October 7th, 2023

Ringby, Ellinor January 2023 (has links)
Since 1948 when Israel was created there have been many conflicts in the Middle East, specifically between Israel and Palestine, both claiming rights over territory. To reach peace and security, the EU has supported the two state solution. There have been many published studies on the EU's position before the commencement of the Israeli-Hamas conflict on October 7th, 2023. This study investigates how, if at all, the EU's position has changed between October 7th and January 1st, 2024, as well as how divided the EU is over the conflict's position. This was accomplished through the use of a qualitative desk study and approaches such as process tracing and text analysis. The thesis uses rational choice as a theoretical framework to follow the process of decision making, political alliances and moral dilemmas. The study argues that there has been a change in position. The EU shows more support for Israel and continues to treat Palestine as a threat to Western security. However, this is not only a consequence of the conflict, but could also be explained by the political changes in Europe. In the end, the support for the two-state solution remains as this continues to benefit EUs own security. This continues to position the EU as a rational actor, as well as it prioritizes its strategic relationship with Israel.
