Projektet Läskonster : En uppföljning av ett lässtimulerande projekt / The Project Arts in Reading : A Follow-up Study of a Reading Stimulating Project

Danielsson, Anna January 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to carry out a follow-up study of the reading stimulating project Arts in Reading. The project was in progress between the years 2007 to 2009 in Sweden and nearly 80 librarians from 57 public libraries participated. The aim of the project was to initiate new methods fot how to stimulate reading for children. The promoters of the project wanted to initiate the use of new art forms in the work for reading promotion, encourage more collaboration with new actors in the culture area, and co-operate more with the children. The aim of the present study is to investigate to which extent Arts in Reading really succeeded in establishing its goals, whether new methods were brought about, and how this work was done. Another aim is to find out how librarians in public libraries work to develop children's reading. The theoretical framework is based on Ragnhild Söderbergh's term inculturation, Elisabeth Björklund's research on how children acquire literacy, and Lev S. Vygotskij's sociocultural approach that analyses how the social context encourages children in their learning process. The method used in the study is qualitative interviews: six librarians that participated in the project were interviewed. The follow-up study suggests that the project Arts in Reading's purpose in many ways has been fulfilled. The results show that new methods have been brought about in Swedish public libraries and that the project inspired new ways for stimulating och developing children's reading. This study is a two years master's thesis in library and information science written at Uppsala university.

The Art of Talking about Books : Book Talk from a Rhetorical Perspective

Pettersson, Linn January 2015 (has links)
In this study the book talk is examined as a communicative act with a purpose to convince according to an under-lying intention to promote reading. I follow the book talk’s way from an idea of the book talker (and the library) to the reception of the audience, with the aim to understand how to talk about books in an engaging manner. More specifically, the rhetorical situation and the purpose of a book talk, the performance and the means to arouse and retain interest in the book talk as a speech and in the books themselves are examined and the impact of the book talk on the audience. The empirical material consists of observations of two different book talks (both directed to children) and interviews with the two different book talking librarians and a few of the children from the audiences to both book talks. The theoretical framework consists of rhetorical theories from both antique and modern times and I perform a rhetorical analysis of both book talks. As a complement to the rhetorical theories I use concepts from Readers’ Advisory such as ”book appeal” and ”reading appeal” to talk about what in the books themselves and in reading as an activity can be used as an argument. The results of the study show that in principle all children wanted to read one or more of the books presented in the book talk. To achieve this interest from the children the librarians know how to use the stories in the books and to draw on the arguments from the books themselves. This involves different appeal-elements from the books as plot summary, characters, genre, style and atmosphere. The book talking librarians also used different rhetorical techniques including evidentia, identification, pathos and ethos. Ethos especially in the form of the benevolence or goodwill the book talker shows the audience by including them in the book talk and trusting them to share what they think about the books. This study is a two years master’s thesis in Archive, Library and Museum studies.

A leitura e a formação do leitor no 1 e 2 ciclos de aprendizagem

Joana Dar'c Vitória da Silva 14 May 2010 (has links)

Espeiorin, Vânia Marta 17 March 2010 (has links)
Submitted by Marcelo Teixeira (mvteixeira@ucs.br) on 2014-05-30T17:46:15Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Vania Marta Espeiorin.pdf: 2365841 bytes, checksum: 4c58c660227c21b4290d582813449361 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2014-05-30T17:46:15Z (GMT). It is the specificity of the literary that catches the eye of the little ones. Despite its visible potential, the poetic text still travels the school fields in a very shy or somewhat inappropriate way. In face of that observation and with the general purpose of reflecting about the knowledge present in the poetry for children of a book that is part of the collection of the Programa Nacional Biblioteca da Escola PNBE/2008 (National Program for Libraries in School), this research thesis was born. From the problem-question "What possibilities of knowledge can poetry provide children with?" five poems from the book Lili inventa o mundo (2005), by Mario Quintana are analyzed. The reflections are shed at the light of theoretical authors from the field of education among which: Freire (1996), Vygotsky (1984, 1993, 2003) and Giles (1987); philosophy such as Paviani (1996) and Fullat (1994); and from literature such as Larrosa (2002), Paz (1982), Bordini (1986), and Candido (1995); and the analyses are based on the methodological and systematic orientation adopted by Candido (2008). The reflections developed by the research indicate that poetic word stimulates imagination during infancy and, as such it can offer the reader opportunities to be in the text, to invent and to figure out new knowledge. Images, rhythms, metaphors and other resources captivate the children, stimulating them not only to decode the words from the literary text, but to observe their context and utterances that suggest different interpretations and new ways of reading the world. Also, as a result of this investigation, which is related to the line of research in Education, Epistemology and Language, at the Masters´ Program in Education at the University of Caxias do Sul (UCS), comes out a proposal for poetry reading in the school field of action, aimed at students´ self-knowledge. The need to have poetic text in school is observed, especially in the first grades, worked by teachers who have been prepared for it, once the child has the right to have access to art and to be educated for esthetical fruition. There lies the justification and scientific relevance of this study, which will be available for teachers and other professionals who are interested in the theme and who worry about offering the child with new horizons and emancipating readings from the literary text. The study verifies that the poems in Lili inventa o mundo propose a reading that can be transforming and opportune for the curricular programs of any educational institution. They offer conditions to help the students constitute themselves as human beings with the capacity to develop their esthetical and critical sense in a constant growth and in their lives in a community. The texts written by Quintana in this work of the PNBE collection reveal the humanizing role of a contemporary poetry for children, which is able to contribute to form little readers. They demonstrate most of all that it is possible to educate with the help of poetic language and the knowledge it offers to a child.
