Folkbibliotekariens erfarenhet av den läsfrämjande metoden läsande förebilder / Public librarians experiences of working with the reading promoting method reading role models

Lippelt, Hilda, Pernling, Moa January 2023 (has links)
To highlight the public librarian's own experience of working with reading role models as a type of reading promotion method is relevant when you to get a deeper understanding of the type of impact that the method has on children's and young adults reading. Insight into this can form a basis for evaluating the working method from a professional perspective and increase awareness of the method's relevance. It is a qualitative interview study whose results are collected from four interviews with public librarians active in collaborations with reading role models. To interpret the results the study uses two different theories; Bourdieu's theory of cultural reproduction and Bandura's social learning theory. Among other things, it emerge that reading role models is a method with strong trust and there was a perception that adults in children's everyday life are important reading role models. A reading role model is above all someone with whom the child wants to identify. Girls were considered to have better conditions to see themselves as readers, whereas one opinion was that the target group boys should be prioritized in the work to promote reading. However, emphasis was placed on the fact that girls must not be forgotten.

Boys and literacy: Disengaging from reading

Ell, Barbara Ann 01 January 2006 (has links)
This quantitative study investigates the disparity that exists between girls and boys and how changes can be implemented to keep boys from disengaging from reading. It examines the reading materials that are available to increase boys' interest in reading and discusses ways in which teachers can develop programs and parents can take action to change boys reading habits. The study employed teacher surveys and student surveys from sixth grade boys in three San Bernardino middle schools.

We shouldn’t fight but cooperate” : A case study of collaboration within reading promotional work directed to children and youth

Ahlén, Oskar January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this master’s thesis is to examine how collaboration is represented in guiding documents and practice concerning reading promotional work towards children and youth within Sandviken’s cultural center’s public library and the house of literature. This is examined through a case study of the public library’s and the house of literature’s activities for children and youth, with a focus on how collaboration affects the organizations work towards these target groups. The empirical material consists of legal texts from national, regional and municipal levels, documents, and guidelines for the two organizations, as well as qualitative interviews with librarians and activity developers within the library and house of literature’s practices. The empirical material is analyzed with the use of Kajsa Lindberg’s organizational definition of collaboration and focuses on how collaboration is perceived, motivated, what unifying objects that exist between different professions and which promoting and inhibitory aspects that can be identified. The analysis shows that motives behind collaboration often involve different categories of motives at once and that they synergize with one another. Librarians and developers experience collaboration as more fruitful when sprung from practice rather than from directives stated in documents. However, the result from this thesis indicates that the documents have a valuable function in putting collaboration on the agenda within public libraries and making decisions to establish and invest in such activities more legitimate. The results further indicate that the organizations within the case have promoting prerequisites that are specific for their local context such as engaged politicians and a strong local cultural tradition, but that the benefits that can be identified in some measures can be achieved elsewhere using the prerequisites at hand. This is a two years master’s thesis in Library and Information science.

Läsfrämjande insatser för socialt utsatta barn : Ett foucauldianskt perspektiv

Wiktorin, Lena January 2016 (has links)
This master’s thesis focuses on educational discourse as it appears in texts about reading promotion interventions directed towards children in public care and children in families with long-term financial assistance. Three case studies of interventions are presented: Skolfam, Paired Reading and Letterbox Club Sweden. The aim of the thesis is to investigate how the interventions are related to the Foucauldian concepts of governmentality, pastoral power, normalization and technologies of the self. The method used is based on the ideas and concepts of Michel Foucault, who deals with the different modes by which we as human beings perform our subjectivity in relation to discourses and institutions. The case studies analyse how reading and math activities are directed towards socially vulnerable children for the prevention of adverse outcomes and social exclusion in adulthood. The relationship between social problems and literacy are of central importance to the analysis. The results of the analysis reveal that the interventions are linked to liberal governmentality. The reading promotion activities are expected to change the children’s reading behavior and attitudes toward education. It is hoped that the interventions will achieve a self-regulating capacity among the children, in order to make them improve their school achievements. The underlying ambition is to form and shape subjects to become independent, democratic citizens who are capable of maintaining a life without long-termed social assistance.  The interventions are especially focused on supporting the foster parents to best meet the needs of the children in accordance with liberal governmentality. This is a two years master’s thesis in Archive, Library and Museum studies.

”En del av biblioteket är just berättelsen" : Barnbibliotekariers läsfrämjande aktiviteter / "Part of the library is the story" : Childrens' Librarians reading promoting activities

Zeijlon, Izabelle, Friberg, Molly January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how children's librarians at public librarieswork to promote reading towards children between the ages of 8-12 and to see if theirreading promotion only consists of printed fiction. The research questions for the thesisare the following: • How do the children's librarian conduct their reading promotion work? • How do children's librarians use different kinds of media in the readingpromotion work? • Which methods do children's librarians use in the reading promotion work? The purpose has been achieved and the research questions has been answered throughresearch interviews with children's librarians who work at public libraries. To analyzethe responses from the interviews, we have used a theory about different approachestowards reading and Jofrid Karner Smidt's theory of the librarian as a mediator ofliterature. The conclusions of the thesis are that there are great similarities in how thechildren’s librarians we have interviewed work with reading promotion and what kindof reading-promoting methods they use.

Alves, Karina Feltes 13 September 2016 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2016-11-22T12:42:04Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Karina Feltes Alves.pdf: 2915936 bytes, checksum: 6e459c9e8bc3446c0ff9eff794ae2210 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2016-11-22T12:42:04Z (GMT). The activities of the sequence, which constitute the empirical research, were planned under the methodological assumptions of Cosson (2014), regarding the elaboration of expanded sequence, and the American methodology of teaching reading strategies, proposed by Harvey e Goudvis (2007). In addition, the theoretical foundation of this study is constituted by the concepts of literature, as "human beings’ right", promulgated by Candido (1972, 1995), experience, as an element presented in reading activity, conferred by Larrosa (2002), and the concepts of mediation and interaction as fundamental to cognitive development and to the learning process, supported by Vigotski (1996, 2009). This study is an action research, conducted in 2015, with students of a first year class of a technical course integrated to High School, of a public institution, in Farroupilha-RS. The study results, constructed from questionnaires and written tasks performed during the implementation of the teaching proposal created by the researcher, indicate to advances in the development of reading skills of the investigated students, indicating correlations between the characteristics of independent readers and the strategies they use. The analysis evidences how the students, from the teacher’s mediation and the interaction with others, experienced the text and appropriated the reading strategies. It is noticed that the individuals investigated conceived the literary text as a tool that provides an opportunity of human knowledge and alternatives for personal liberation, contributing to the development of their reading competence.

Reading is not only a practical teacher of Portuguese, it must be held in all disciplines whose specific knowledge can be scientifically constructed by the teacher as a mediator in the process of teaching and learning through reading.
