This study aims at introducing some of the highly expressive dimensions that constitute the universe of the Candomblé kitchen. It demonstrates how these dimensions make the kitchen, as well as its corresponding feeding processes/rituals, play out as central elements in the daily life of Candomblé houses. This study hypothesizes that the kitchen centralizes a significant amount of religious ideology and that the kitchen structures the relationships in the Candomblé house and practice. The kitchen is the place where incredibly sacred food and dishes are prepared. Just like a river, the Candomblé kitchen is a place of magic and transformation that crosses the entire religious community. It is a place where knowledge is articulated and shared, and is therefor a strategic space for the training for and formation of the “filhos de santo”.

Through the rapprochement between two Christian experiences displaced in space and time, Thessalonian Christianity and the Contestado Christianity Movement, the aim of this work is to reflect on the cultural development of processes that led to the radicalization of religious experiences. Pauline Thessalonians from the middle of the 1st century and the Southern- Brazilian Contestado Movement from the twentieth century make evident in their history both a theological and practical dispute that traverses the entire history of Christianity, namely, the eschatological reflows resulting from the assimilation of apocalyptic traditions. The documents for the two contexts will be read in sharp contrast to the way Benjamin, supported by the approaches of historians Ginzburg, Koselleck and Hartog regarding the understanding of the historical time flows. Considering the influences already identified in the framework of itinerant preachers in the eschatological messianism Contestado Movement and the need for dialogical approach to the ancient Christian community of Thessalonica, a more distant time and linked to the performance of the first monk João Maria, nineteenth century, was taken as the point beacon to the junction with the preaching and the pauline letter of First Thessalonians. The often severe preaching of the monk, the gathering of people around him, as well as the miracles attributed to him disturbed the social cohesion in the manner of Paul's preaching in the first century. As an extension of the analysis articulated to the design of "comparable" axes, under the anthropologist Marcel Detienne prism, stands out the fact that the unassisted practices, however autonomous, from communities, headed towards traditions confined within Christianity itself.

______________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This study aims at understanding the meaning of the experience of embodiment of the youth in the charismatic catholic movement, considering dance as a bodily practice that facilitates processes of social interaction and relationships with the sacred. It relies on field research of ethnographic inspiration, using the dense description of facts proposed by Geertz (1989). The data survey procedures were observation (registered in a field journal) and semi-standardized interviews. We chose the Agape Group of the Sacred Family Parish, in Vila Canaã, in the city of Goiânia - GO as it fit the criteria defined for the research goal. Results indicate that the meaning of embodiment for the youth in the group evince bodily practices of diverse natures and aim at the search for the sacred. Among the identified bodily practices, namely: meditative resting, glossolalia, freestyle dancing and choreographed dancing, dancing had a prominent role in the Agape activities. The relevance of dancing stems from two factors: (i) for expressing a bodily manifestation that fosters social interaction among the participants and (ii) for the clear relationship between sacred and profane in dancing. In this case, the efficacy and tradition present on the bodily practice are invested with body technique, with the aim of achieving transcendence, the mythical experience – from the perspective of the sacred, as well as an escape from daily life and embrace of socialization, joy and affection – connected to the profane aspects of the bodily practice. The conclusion is that embodiment on charismatic dance establishes social interaction in the search for the sacred.

_________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The present historiographical work aims at expressing the possible Jewish cultural appropriation related to myths, ideas and Oriental images. Having Dn 7 as a source text, I intend to track down the beasts’ framework, focusing mainly on the fourth animal, only described as being “exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass”. Analyzing these mysterious animal features, a parallel between the animal described in the supposed Alexander the Great trip to India, story narrated in the false letter attributed to Aristotle, and later inserted in the Alexander Romance. The animals’ descriptions made by the authors are very alike, and regarding the fascination that Alexander exerted upon the author of Dn, it is plausible to affirm that the animal described in the vision can be the Indian Rhinoceros, Odontotyrranus. It is worth emphasizing that even in a Judaism closed to cultural interchanges, the author of Dn ends up using prior pagan ideas, and Greek/Oriental images to culturally reaffirm himself and reject an imminent Hellenic influence over the religious Judaic customs.

This work has the objective of describing and explaining some relevant aspects about the society-nature relationship, as it is understood from the Vedic philosophy perspective and the biocentrical conception. This study also intends to show an organization with religious characteristics, self-identified as a follower of the Vedic principies: "the International Society for Kríshna Consciousness" (ISKCON). Suitable links were also established between the Vedic vision and some ecologist conceptions of our days about society-nature relationship. Here we find important similarities, specially dealing with the concept of the inner value of each living being. One of the applied methodologies for the research accomplishment is the reading of some essential books of the Vedic philosophy, emphasizing the ethic aspect and philosophical-religious principies. The western classical literature about this theme was employed as secondary information, giving more importance to the texts with a closer biocentrism vision and a critical position about the contemporary society. This work makes an empiric approach of the Hare Kríshna Movement (MHK), detaching some aspects of its daily practice, which reveals its own way to understand and deal with the natural world. Values and experiences from this context are recognized of an important part of the western ecology visions in the vedic philosophy which allow us to visualize alternative ways of perceiving life, organizing the society and above ali, reflecting upon the relationship between the human-being and nature / Mestrado / Mestre em Sociologia
