“CAUSE THAT’S THE ONLY SKILLS IN SCHOOL YOU NEED” A QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS OF REVENGE GOALS IN POOR URBAN YOUTH

Jäggi, Lena Janina 13 December 2013 (has links)
Ample research shows that revenge goals are correlated with maladjustment and retaliation is an important factor driving youth violence. Still, in environments with limited institutionalized interventions revenge might be an indispensable tool to maintain social equilibrium. This qualitative secondary analysis of 50 (30 Boys) revenge scenarios from a larger longitudinal study (N=358 dyads of youth/maternal caregiver) expands existing one-dimensional knowledge of revenge from closed-answer vignettes to the rich real world experience of 10-16 year old youth from an urban community sample. Key findings showed significant qualitative differences in both cognition and emotions of revenge scenarios. Ten distinct patterns emerged and were discussed in relation to the revised model of Social Information Processing (SIP) by Lemerise and Arsenio (2000). Specifically, importance of reputation, retaliation as a public event, confidence in non-violent solutions, parental messages, and the influence of intense emotions were important themes. Gender differences and implications for prevention are discussed.

Ressentimento: (im)possibilidade de elaboração / Resentment: (Im)Possibilities of working through

This thesis is the result of the great interest awaken in me for resentment, always so present in the clinical practice, and of the need to extend my understanding of the theme. Bearing in mind the small prominence the theme has seen in the psychoanalytical field, I have made my way towards literature and philosophy and made use of them to build a wider frame. This paper aims at showing some ways our patients find to deal with the affective constellation called resentment, and point out that the possibility of a healthy outcome such as literary creation is not always open, but that through psychoanalytical work it is possible to remove the subject from the position of a victim and make him assume his position as a subject. I have worked with the hypothesis that resentment is the result of a narcissistic failure that happens at the encounter of a certain baby with a little favorable environment. From this encounter would result a frail self, ill prepared to face situations that are considered humiliating or highly offensive by this subject. This research results in the conception of resentment as a primary defense used every time the subject feels attacked in his narcissism, so frailly composed. Yet through repetition, resentment is used as a defense, even though it is a little appropriate defense and results in false gains / Esta dissertação é resultado do grande interesse em mim despertado pelo ressentimento, sempre tão presente na clínica, e da minha necessidade de ampliar minha compreensão sobre o tema.

La vengeance du consommateur insatisfait sur Internet et l'effet sur les attitudes des autres consommateurs / Dissatisfied consumer revenge on the internet and its effects on other consumers attitudes

Passos, Gisele 27 May 2013 (has links)
This doctoral research focuses on the phenomenon of dissatisfied consumers revenge on the Internet and the effect of this action on other consumers attitudes. Two qualitative studies and three experiments were performed. The results show that the dissatisfied consumer revenge on the Internet is widely approved and it adversely affects brand attitude. Individuals exposed to a revenge on the Web, show feelings of empathy and admiration for the avenger and his action. The good news for brands is that there are ways to counteract this effect.

A paz e o recurso à violência no Reino dos Francos: os mecanismos de resolução de conflito no período  merovíngio (séculos VI - VII) / Peace and the use of violence in the Kingdom of Francs: mechanisms of conflict resolution in the Merovingian period (centuries VI - VII)

Milton Mazetto Junior 07 April 2009 (has links)
The Master\'s dissertation entitled \"Peace and the use of violence in the Kingdom of Francs: mechanisms of conflict resolution in the Merovingian period (centuries VI - VII)\" has as its main object the question of the character of the forms of conflict resolution in the Merovingian period: public, result of the action of an authority concerned with the groups of that society. The fundament of that problem lies in the different interpretations, present in the historiography, of the role of the royal power in the conflict resolution. Some studies, related with the anthropology of law, outpoint that the royalty didn\'t has the means to control the disputes and the violence, whose were controlled by the feud. Other works, indicate that the Merovingian king was the sole responsible for the end of disputes, through the institution of law codes and the delegation of judiciary power to a body of functionaries. This distinction in the studies were caused by the distinct interpretations of, by one side, the meaning of the violence in the narrative of the \'Decem libri historiarum\' of Gregory of Tours, and, by another, the nature of thses sources, guided by the most recent researches in the field, and the investigation of the canons of the councils and the \'formulae Andecavenses\', to position himself critically within the discussion of the both conceptions of Merovingian royal power.

The revenge porn will be analyzed starting by speeches that have been process in Brazilian judiciary, in especial civil lawsuit that find tutelar rights and obligations, experienced to inviduals envolved on these events. By this perspective, the revenge porn is taken as a committed, whereby close images shared on cyberpace, without the holder consent, in order to foist him constraints, humiliations and other violation the sphere of his personality. As appears from the events analyzed in the course of research, this practice arises due the end of relationship. Of affective and/or sexual order, general rule, focus in men and women relations. These perspectives, the revenge porn, take similarity with other events falling into a relational logical violence gender. As well as an project control of sexuality in various aspects. So, legal speeches about revenge porn will problematised these two perspectives. The ethnography documents - court lawsuits - was adopted as a perspective of analyzes, whereby makes possibile the access to these particular speech: The legal speeches, which is crossed by several circular speeches, on and off to court lawsuit.

Tragedy At Court: An Analysis Of The Relationship Between Jealousy, Honour, Revenge And Love In John Ford

Aydogdu, Merve 01 February 2013 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of this study is to demonstrate the destructive effects of infidelity in the old-aged husband-the young wife marriages which end up with tragedy. In John Ford&rsquo / s Love&rsquo / s Sacrifice (1633) and Lope de Vega&rsquo / s Punishment Without Revenge (1631), tragedy turns out to be the inevitable consequence of the plays since the motives of jealousy, honour, revenge and love converge and lead people to commit sinful crimes. Within this scope, the first chapter of the thesis is devoted to the historical information about the state of English and Spanish theatres together with the biographies of the playwrights. In the second chapter, the tripartite relationship between jealousy, revenge, and honour is dealt with based upon examples from the primary sources in a historical framework. The reasons and results of these themes are studied through the characters in the plays. The third chapter covers the theme of love, its history and its influence on characters. In this chapter, the nature of love between the characters and its consequences are examined. The conclusion asserts that the old-aged husband and the young wife create a mismatched union and accompanied with the motives of honour, jealousy and revenge, the institution of marriage breeds tragic consequences. The analysis of the above mentioned themes is based on a historical context and it is also concluded that although Love&rsquo / s Sacrifice (1633) and Punishment Without Revenge (1631) belong to the Renaissance age, both plays bear the influences of the Greco-Roman drama tradition. Thus, the similarities and differences between classical and Renaissance tragedy are demonstrated.

Nietzsche on the Future and Value

Ranta, John 31 July 2006 (has links)
This thesis addresses two interpretative questions concerning the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche. The first is to ascertain the primary objection that Nietzsche has to a morality that he describes as decadent. The conclusion reached is that Nietzsche’s objection to decadent morality is based on the harm it does to a class of “higher” individuals who have valuable work to perform in achieving a desirable future for humanity. The second question is to determine the manner in which Nietzsche’s own values are to be understood based on the skepticism he expresses concerning the objectivity of value. The conclusion reached is that Nietzsche’s values are objects of the same analysis he applies to human values generally. The values Nietzsche endorses, including the valuing of “higher” individuals, are to be understood as symptoms of a particular physiology and its relationship to living.

Bel-Imperia: The (Early) Modern Woman in Thomas Kyd’s Spanish Tragedy

Basso, Ann McCauley 01 March 2006 (has links)
At the heart of Thomas Kyd's revenge tragedy The Spanish Tragedy lies an arranged marriage around which all of the other action revolves. Bel-Imperia of Spain has been betrothed against her will to Prince Balthazar of Portugal, but she is no ordinary woman, and she has plans of her own. Bel-Imperia's unwillingness to participate in the arranged marriage is indicative of the rise of the companionate marriage; it represents a rejection of the arranged marriage that dominated upper class society in earlier years. This study seeks to throw light upon early modern attitudes towards marriage, focusing particularly on the arranged marriage, the companionate marriage, and the state marriage. Additionally, it examines the role of woman as peace-weaver, a practice that dates back as far as the Beowulf manuscript. Using historical as well as literary sources to delineate these forms, I apply this information to a study of the play itself, with an emphasis on its performative value. Since the proposed marriage dictates all of the action of the play, an analysis of the bartered bride, Bel-Imperia, is of particular importance. This essay examines her character in depth as well as her relationships with Andrea and Horatio, who love her; with Lorenzo, the King, and her father, who seek to exploit her; and with Hieronimo, who becomes her partner in revenge. Additionally, I contrast her with Isabella, one of only two other female characters in the play and conclude by delineating how my analysis would affect a performance of the play and by "directing" a hypothetical interpretation of The Spanish Tragedy.
