Drama groups: Stigma challenging and well-being of individuals living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda / Dramagrupper: Stigma utmaning och välmående hos individer som lever med HIV/AIDS i Uganda.Andersson, Josefina January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this narrative study was to describe the role and potentials of drama groups for enhancing and maintaining well-being for female drama group members living with HIV in Uganda. Six semi-structured interviews were carried out and analyzed through a thematic analysis. The analysis was made within a theoretical framework based upon Sen's notion of the capability approach and social psychological theories of the self. The results showed that the activities carried out by the drama group empowered the women through increasing their access to important capabilities such as inclusion and self-respect. It further indicated that the women needed other forms of support before being able to benefit from these activities. However, some capabilities were still inaccessible to the women due to obstacles as poverty and harmful gender norms.

Three major novels of Miguel Angel Asturias : a study in fictional methodMartin, G. M. January 1970 (has links)
Despite the award of the Nobel Prize to Miguel Angel Asturias in 1967, he appears to have gone into decline with the rise of the nueva novela latinoamericana. Emir Rodrguez Monegal's influential but negative view in "Los dos Asturias" ignores several important points already raised by G.Yepes-Boscan's "Asturias, un pretexto del mito". Asturias' two major innovations are a functional incorporation of Latin American myth allied to audacious experimentation with language, and these are the acknowledged central features of the "new" novel. El Senor Presidente and Hombres de maz together prefigure all the varied manifestations of the nueva novela, an example of which is Asturias' own Mulata de tal.

A Capability Approach for the European UnionEiffe, Franz F. January 2008 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of this paper is to develop a new concept for the EU in order to define and measure poverty no longer on the basis of income1, but on so called capabilities to argue for a capability oriented social policy. The capability approach (CA) was originally developed by Nobel laureate Amartya Sen2 and can be interpreted as critique of the utilitarian tradition of standard economics. In Sen's view, mainstream economic analysis operates on a very narrow base and does not include central information about the human condition. The main points of Sen's critique shall be discussed by way of introduction in section one. In offering an alternative framework of economic evaluation, Sen is very much inspired by the work of Adam Smith (1723-1790) and tried to bring him back into the economic and social discussion. The connections between Smith and Sen and the main elements of the CA will be discussed in section two. (...) (author´s abstract) / Series: Working Papers / Institut für Sozialpolitik

INTEGRUOTAI MOKYKLOJE BESIMOKANČIŲ MOKINIŲ ADAPTACIJOS YPATUMAI / Learners‘ Adaptation Peculiarities of Studying at School IntegrallyBrazienė, Jolanta 07 September 2010 (has links)
Demokratizuojant Lietuvos Respublikos švietimo sistemą, Lietuvoje nuo 1991 metų įteisintas specialiųjų poreikių vaikų integruotas ugdymas. Vykstant pokyčiams Lietuvoje prasidėjo permainos, teikiant pedagoginę, socialinę, medicininę, teisinę pagalbą neįgaliems vaikams ir suaugusiems optimaliai integruojant juos į visuomenę.
Akcentuotina tai, jog SUP mokinių adaptacijos bendrojo lavinimo mokykloje problemos nėra išsamiai tyrinėtos. Be to, daugelyje tyrimų orientuojamasi ne į pačių neįgaliųjų savijautą mokykloje, pasitenkinimą savo bendraklasiais bei mokymosi procesu, o į pedagogų, tėvų ar bendraklasių nuomonę.
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Since 1990, democratizing the education system of the Republic of Lithuania, the integrated education of children with special needs has been validated. Lithuania began to change the course of change in the provision of educational, social, medical and legal assistance to disabled children and adults to optimize their integration into society.
It should be emphasized that SEN pupils’ adaptation problems in comprehensive school have not been thoroughly investigated. In addition, most researches focus not on the disabled pupil's feelings at school, satisfaction with their classmates and learning process. Mostly they focus on the opinion of teachers, parents or classmates. In other words, SEN pupils often ‚fall out‘ from the context of research, though exactly their feelings and conditions at school are the most important.
The object of the research: Learners‘with special needs adaptation in a comprehensive school.
Hypothesis: SEN pupils adapt in a comprehensive school more difficult than students without learning difficulties.
The aim: to analyse the adaptation features of 3 - 4 formers with special needs studying in a comprehensive school integrally.
The sample of the research: 25 SEN pupils and 25 control group pupils, studying in
classes 3 - 4.
At the first stage of the adaptation research of pupils with special needs studying at a comprehensive school integrally, SEN pupils expressed their thoughts, experiences and problems in their essays ‘Me and My School‘ . At the... [to full text]

Not Out of the Blue: Sun Yat-sen and the ROC-PRC ParadoxThrowe, Jacob January 2011 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Rebecca Nedostup / Seeing as how the leadership of both the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China have claimed a sense of inheritance and legitimacy from the political philosophy of Sun Yat-sen, it seems a paradox how different the political situations are in their respective domains. It is the intent of this thesis to discern how prioritizing different elements of Sun Yat-sen's political theory resulted in divergent decisions made by the leaders of the Kuomintang and the Chinese Communist Party, which in turn help explain conditions found in the Republic of China on Taiwan and the People's Republic of China. / Thesis (BA) — Boston College, 2011. / Submitted to: Boston College. Inclusion and teaching Physical Education (PE) in Greece : PE teachers' understandings and practice of inclusion and Mosston's Spectrum of Teaching StylesKarageorgopoulou, Efstathia January 2016 (has links)
Inclusion in relation to special educational needs (SEN) has become an imperative in the educational policies of many countries. However, the implementation of inclusive practice is not straightforward and has been the focus of many studies. In Physical Education (PE), Mosston’s Spectrum of Teaching Styles is an integral component of many educational systems but has not been studied in relation to teachers’ understanding of inclusion and inclusive practice. Mosston’s Spectrum of Teaching styles has been promoted in Greece since 2006 and this study investigates the relationship between the beliefs and practices of specialist primary PE teachers in Greece in relation to inclusion and Mosston’s Spectrum of Teaching Styles. The study has a single-case research design with embedded units and was conducted in mainstream primary schools with 15 participant PE teachers. Data was collected using semi-structured observations of participants’ PE lessons followed by semi-structured interviews focusing on their understanding of inclusion, of inclusive practices and their knowledge and use of Mosston’s Spectrum of Teaching Styles. The findings suggest that some of the teachers’ beliefs about inclusion resonate with current understandings as reported in the literature whereas other teachers refer to older understandings of inclusion and disability. Very few teachers had a detailed knowledge of Mosston’s Spectrum of Teaching Styles but were found to use them to some extent during their lessons. While not commonly associated with inclusion, the teaching styles from Mosston’s Spectrum that were used did not prevent the use of inclusive practices by the teachers. This study relates Mosston’s Spectrum of Teaching Styles to a single dimension of inclusion and challenges the value it is accorded in Physical Education policy in Greece where inclusive practice is promoted by particular educational policies. The findings lead to suggestions for enhancement of both policy and practice in the context of Physical Education in Greece and more widely.

Tesis

Tesis

Development ethics, Sen's 'Idea of Justice' and the reproduction of injustice : reconceptualising injustice in the context of development policy in MexicoGarza Vazquez, Oscar Rodrigo January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation analyses the contribution that Amartya Sen’s idea of justice can make to inform development policies. Particularly, it examines to what extent Sen succeeds in presenting a useful theoretical framework for orienting political action towards justice-enhancing change. In The Idea of Justice (2009), Sen argues that ideal theories of justice which aim at identifying the nature of a perfectly just society—what he calls ‘transcendental’ theories—are not appropriate either for examining prevalent injustices or for rectifying them. Sen therefore proposes a ‘comparative framework’ of justice capable of providing useful practical guidance to advance justice or reduce injustice, a task for which ‘transcendental’ Rawlsian-like theories are redundant. This dissertation critically assesses these two claims advanced by Sen. Taking John Rawls’ Theory of Justice as an illustration, it argues that ideal theories are indeed essential, even if not sufficient, for the reduction of injustice. Therefore, it advances that it is necessary to complement ideal and nonideal approaches to justice. It then advocates for a ‘dual Rawlsian/Senian framework’. Yet this dissertation argues that, even if coupled with an ideal theory, Sen’s nonideal theory remains insufficient to orient injustice-reduction actions because it fails to take into account the overarching social nature of injustice and its perpetuation. In the light of this shortcoming, this dissertation stresses the need to conceptualise injustice as something different from simply the lack of justice and to understand it in a more dynamic and relational way. Ultimately, this implies further complementing a dual framework with a broader conceptualisation of injustice. The dissertation illustrates this argument with the social policy of Oportunidades in Mexico. It concludes that, in order to create a more just society, injustice-reduction policies need to go beyond the removal of capability-deprivations and address the ways in which injustice is reproduced through social interactions.
