Injury Prediction in Elite Ice Hockey using Machine Learning / Riskanalys och Prediktion av Skador i Elitishockey med Maskininlärning

Staberg, Pontus, Häglund, Emil, Claesson, Jakob January 2018 (has links)
Sport clubs are always searching for innovative ways to improve performance and obtain a competitive edge. Sports analytics today is focused primarily on evaluating metrics thought to be directly tied to performance. Injuries indirectly decrease performance and cost substantially in terms of wasted salaries. Existing sports injury research mainly focuses on correlating one specific feature at a time to the risk of injury. This paper provides a multidimensional approach to non-contact injury prediction in Swedish professional ice hockey by applying machine learning on historical data. Several features are correlated simultaneously to injury probability. The project’s aim is to create an injury predicting algorithm which ranks the different features based on how they affect the risk of injury. The paper also discusses the business potential and strategy of a start-up aiming to provide a solution for predicting injury risk through statistical analysis.

Ahlbin, Oskar, Svensson, Marcus January 2020 (has links)
Sexton respondenter deltog i studien. / Abstract The purpose of the study is to investigate the dependence of associations on external organizations. At the same time highlight the sports associations' use of commercial activities and how it affects their finances. The study will also discuss the advantages and disadvantages that the surveyed associations see with the incorporation of sports associations, as the sports associations world is moving towards a more corporate-like approach. The study is rooted in the uncertain environment that is formed when commercialization and the non-profit ideal are set against each other within Swedish sports. Research agrees that sport needs to strike a balance between commercialization and the non-profit ideal. On the other hand, there is disagreement as to whether commercial revenue is about profit maximization or utility maximization. Resource Dependence Theory is used to explain how organizations reduce their dependence and uncertainties in the environment they operate in relation to external partners. The method applied is a mixture of quantitative and qualitative research, through a questionnaire containing questions in a mixture of survey and semi-structured interview questions. Sixteen respondents participated in the study. The study shows that elite sports associations find that collaboration with external organizations is something to strive for, but that it also creates a dependency on these external organizations. It also appears that the dependency is unchanged regardless of the form of association.

Michelin-Jamois, Millan 03 December 2014 (has links)
Competition in aerospace industry forces to follow a constant evolution of technologies linked to launching costs decreasing and reliability increasing. An improvement of payload protection systems is a way to achieve these conditions. The main issue of this PhD thesis is to verify the applicability of lyophobic heterogeneous systems (association of a nanoporous material and a non- wetting liquid) in vibrations damping for payload comfort. Intrusion of liquid in LH S requires a high mechanical energy in the form of p res sure. Depending on solid/liquid couple properties this energy can be partly dissipated. This dissipation, of the order of ten joules per gram of material, is far higher than classical systems (elastomeric ones, viscous dampers...) and shows a relative stability regarding to frequency variations. These properties explain their interest in vibrations damping applications. Although water is a very common liquid which is very studied in the research field of LHS, it can only be used in the 0 to 100˚C temperatures range (under atmospheric pressure). In order to broaden this temperatures range to -50˚C, electrolytes have been used. Adding electrolytes to water permits to decrease the liquid melting temperature. The study of electrolyte solutions has highlighted two different phenomena leading to intrusion and extrusion pressures increasing in LHS. In microporous materials (such as ZIF-8 studied here), a total exclusion phenomenon of ions from porous matrix can be observed. This effect leads to the appearance of an osmotic pressure term which explains high increasing of both intrusion and extrusion pressures. If ions can penetrate pores, intrusion and extrusion pressures increasing are smaller and have been explained by liquid surface properties changes. Mesoporous materials (such as MCM-41 studied here) seem to show this last behaviour whatever ion is. Increasing of LHS application range to high temperatures has been made using Galinstan, gallium, indium and tin alloy, which is non-toxic and stays liquid between approximately -20 and 1300˚C. This liquid, associated with chemically inert mesoporous glasses, permits to obtain reproducible energy dissipation cycles. Finally, a numerical study of a simplified LHS damper in a mechanical system has been done. The behaviours variety has brought to light the complexity of such a system which needs a very accurate design. If this condition is verified, LHS dampers can be very effective and adaptable thanks to the numerous solid/liquid couples which can be used.

La interferencia interlingüística en la producción oral de jóvenes suecos de ELH : "Después el perrito se comió un corvito" / Cross-linguistic influence in the oral production young Swedish of HL speakers

Moreno, Rosa January 2016 (has links)
This study investigates the ocurrence of interlangual influence in the oral production of young Swedish HL speakers of the Chilean variety of Spanish. The Study is guided by two research questions. The first question inquires into the sources language(s) influences in ILL (Swedish L2 vs. English L3). The second question focuses on the factors that determine the incidence of ILL. The data were elicited by means of a narrative task and an interview. A questionnarie was also used to gather sociolinguistic information from the participants. The results suggest that the Swedish L2 was the main source of influence in ILL against English L3, which did not play an important role. In addition to this, it was found that the occurrence of ILL was determined by various linguistic factor.
