Where's my home? : a reading of Sandra Cisnero's The House on Mango Street

Veras, Adriane Ferreira January 2008 (has links)
This dissertation consists of a critical reading of the novel The House on Mango Street by Chicana author, Sandra Cisneros. The focus of my reading is on the narrator, Esperanza, and her quest for a home as emblematic of her need of self-assertion and the development of her identity. This study analyses identity issues of a culturally hybrid individual, and also several features of the narrative, such as the language, the desire that thrusts this same narrative, and gender issues. The use of the two languages, Spanish and English, is also a characteristic o this hybrid culture. The female representations are also analyzed in the romance. The female figures in the Mexican imaginary influence and mold the profile of the Mexican and Chicana women that are depicted in the novel. The novel can be considered as a representative of a literary Chicano discourse, in which we can follow Esperanza in her growth journey towards adulthood. The theoretical assumptions used in the analyses comprehend scholars who investigate identity issues, such as Stuart Hall and Homi Bhabha, gender, such as Cherríe Moraga and Gloria Anzaldúa, and the representation of women under the scope Octavio Paz’s studies of Mexican myths that portray female models.

Caissy, Sandra 20 April 2018 (has links)

Objectivity in Feminist Philosophy of Science

Ward, Laura Aline 30 December 2004 (has links)
Feminist philosophy of science has long been considered a fringe element of philosophy of science as a whole. A careful consideration of the treatment of the key concept of objectivity by such philosophical heavyweights as Thomas Kuhn and Karl Popper, followed by an analysis of the concept of objectivity with the work of such feminist philosophers of science as Donna Haraway, Lynn Hankinson Nelson, and Sandra Harding, reveals that feminist philosophers of science are not members of some fringe movement of philosophy of science, but rather are doing philosophical work which is both crucial and connected to the work of other, "mainstream" philosophers of science. / Master of Arts

Monteringsstation för verktygstavlor : Konstruktion och framtagning av monteringsinstruktion / Assembling station for tool boards : Construction and production of assembly instructions

Audo, Sandra, Eriksson, Pontus January 2018 (has links)
This thesis project has been carried out with Husmuttern AB as the requestor for the job. Husmuttern AB is a company in the start-up phase which works with developing module houses which are recyclable, disassemblable and standardized. The goal for the thesis project is to design an assembly station for mobile tool boards in a Husmuttern factory. There should also be instructions for the assembly station. The tool boards are used as storage for tools, safety equipment and more. The station must be usable for people without professional experience and regardless of language knowledge and background. The research questions are: * How should the instructions be designed so that a person regardless of language background can understand them? * What are the most important factors regarding ergonomics and protection against misassembly? The method used is based on the product development process described in Produktutveckling by Ulrich, K and Eppinger, S (2012), but adapted to the current project. To obtain a complete tool board one needs to place all hooks and other storage on the board and thereafter mount the boards to legs to make it mobile. To make sure that all hooks, nuts, etc. are placed correctly, installation templates are used to show where everything needs to be placed. A fixture is used for the legs, where one stands the legs, installs the boards in the correct order and uses screws to secure them. The instructions are in the shape of a Powerpoint presentation which is displayed on TV monitors in the factory. The instructions contain pictures and video showing every step of the assembly. There are also symbols, like for example arrows, pointing out important details which need to be observed. The instructions contain no current text, the only writing is numbers, which the workers are expected to understand. The project group has carried out tests with the workers in the factory. The tests have shown that the concept works. The installation templates combined with the instructions makes it easy for the workers to understand where everything needs to be placed. The fixture for the legs has not been tested with the workers in its final form, but the concept has been tested and is working satisfactorily.

Think we must: politiques féministes et construction des savoirs

Puig De La Bellacasa, Maria 09 December 2004 (has links)

Barbosa, Renata Jordani 29 May 2009 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-28T20:40:07Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Renata Jordani Barbosa.pdf: 1136816 bytes, checksum: 5597799f6e5b8ecbc1c9110deee31434 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-05-29 / Introduction: Resilience is a human potential, present in individuals in all cultures and in all times, it is part of an evolutionary process and can be promoted since the birth. Studies about resilience aim the comprehension of how children, teen-agers and adults are capable of surviving and overcome obstacles, despite living in poverty, domestic violence and other risky situations. In modern society changes are increasingly fast and deep, requiring constant efforts of adaptation and, therefore, making resilience a challenge of this new age. The current paper is relevant to psychology professional because intends to translate and validate a scale of resilience for children and teenagers, given that there are still no instrument validated specifically for these populations. Objective: Translate, adapt and validate to the Portuguese language and the Brazilian population the original version of the Resiliency Scales for Children & Adolescents (RSCA), by Sandra Prince-Embury (2007). Method: The assumptions of Hambleton e Patsula (1999) were utilized for the translation and trans-cultural adaptation of the scale. Data gathering for the research was made in three schools (two public and one private) located in different communities in the city of Sao Paulo The sample size was 1226 children and teen-agers from 9 to 18 year old, 51% of those female. Outcomes: In order to verify the factors that compound the sub-scales CO, CR e RA, the author used factorial analysis for principal components and Varimax rotation. Factorial charges equal or greater than 0.3 were assumed and the adequacy of factorial analysis was verified according to KMO coefficient and Bartlett sphere test. Alpha Cronbach scores found in the Brazilian version (CO = 0.83, CR = 0.90 e RA = 0.87) were considered satisfactory compared to the results related by Prince- Embury (2007), indicating good internal consistent of the tool. The alpha coefficients were considered relevantly lower that the original ones in only three factors (adaptability, comfort and tolerance). Several concepts defined in this paper are theoretically related to themselves, reason why the formation of some factors shows that the items are ambiguous. This ambiguity was reflected in the factorial analysis.
