Patienters upplevelse av att förlora en extremitet : En litteraturöversikt / Patients' experience of losing an extremity

Johansson, Lena, Spång, Maria January 2020 (has links)
In Sweden, amputations are usually performed as a result of reduced blood circulation. After amputation, phantom pain and other problems can occur, which can affect the quality of life. The purpose of this literature review is to describe patients' experience of the quality of life in daily life after having a lower extremity amputated. The literature review is a student essay at the bachelor's level where ten articles were reviewed. The results showed three main themes with associated sub-themes that describe patients' experience of the quality of life in daily life after amputation. The main themes that emerged were: Care before and after, quality of life and hope for the future. The results of the literature review showed that patients did not feel involved in the decisions and care after amputation. They also experienced that phantom pain affected the quality of life and that after amputation they experienced lost independence and that their self-image changed. Positive experiences after amputation were affected by whether patients accepted their new situation. Those who suffered from prolonged pain before amputation could see the procedure as a salvation to live a pain-free life. Nurses should work individually, meet patients' worlds of life and collaborate in teams to facilitate the opportunities to find quality of life and improve the possibility of recovery.

Confronting the Enemy Within: An In-Depth Study on Psychological Self-Handicapping among Collegiate Musicians

Flowers, Michelle C. 08 1900 (has links)
Self-handicapping is a psychological behavior people engage in to protect their self-image, project a desired image to others, and to augment feelings of success and achievement. Self-handicapping occurs when individuals have a positive but uncertain self-image about their competence in an arena of life fundamental to their self-identity. Musicians have been underrepresented in self-handicapping studies; yet the very competitive nature of their education and craft, the strong identification musicians have as musicians, and the frequent challenges during all phases of development to their abilities would suggest they are extremely vulnerable to developing self-handicaps. This dissertation discusses the theoretical components of self-handicapping, the personality traits typically exhibited by high self-handicappers, causes, types, and possible motivations for self-handicapping, short and long term effects of the behavior, and the implications these concepts have to the musician community. In addition, it contains the results of an extensive survey of musicians which examines self-handicapping tendencies, depression, imposter phenomenon, and self-esteem ratings to determine 1) if musicians self-handicap, 2) how the four constructs are related to each other within the musician population, 3) if other factors concerning musicians and self-handicapping are related, 4) areas for future research. Several significant relationships involving the four constructs tested, as well as a significant difference between the self-handicapping behaviors of professional and amateur players were found.

Andersson, Alva, Johansson, Olivia January 2020 (has links)
During the last decade there has been a major change in the labour market where the work has become more limitless and the number of entrepreneurs has increased. This study analyses how self-employed female accountant experience their personal identity and professional identity. Central questions are the individual experience of the personal- and professional identity, the connection between them and which importance self-employment has for the perceived personal identity. Previous research indicates that there are several separate studies about self-employed, accountant and identity but not in a combination with each other, which lays the foundation for the study's relevance. The theoretical starting points are Erving Goffman's stigma theory and the dramaturgical perspective as well as concepts about the boundless work and identity. The study is based on a qualitative research method in which five semi-structured interviews have been conducted. The results indicate that there is a connection between the personal identity and the professional identity. Besides, it emerged that the role of self-employed has importance for the perceived personal identity.

Proksch, Pavel January 2013 (has links)
The master thesis deals with the group of senior voters in the institutional care. Those factors might limit their interest in politics. Secondly, the retirement home environment plays very important role because it significantly influences self-conceptions of its clients. The study tries to find out the motives of seniors's electoral participation as well as their following political news across the media. Thesis is also concerned with the political agitation, campaign and discussions with politics, The aim of the thesis is also to describe the preparation, conduct and atmosphere during the elections in retirement home. Contesting narratives : constructions of the self and the nation in Zimbabwe polical auto/ Biography

Javangwe, Tasiyana Dzikai 11 1900 (has links)
This study is an interpretive analysis of Zimbabwean political auto/biographical narratives in contexts of changing culture, race, ethnicity and gender identity images of the self and nation. I used eclectic theories of postcolonialism to explore the fractured nature of both the processes of identity construction and narration, and the contradictions inherent in identity categories of nation and self. The problem of using autobiographical memory to recall the momentous events that formed the contradictory identities of self and nation in the creative imagination of the lives of Ian Smith, Maurice Nyagumbo, Abel Muzorewa, Joshua Nkomo, Doris Lessing, Fay Chung, Judith Garfield Todd, Tendai Westerhof and Lutanga Shaba have been highlighted. The study concluded that there are narrative and ideological disjunctures between experiencing life and narrating those experiences to create approximations of coherent identities of individual selves and those of the nation. The study argued that each of the stories analyzed in this study contributed a version of the multiple Zimbabwean narratives that no one story could ever tell without being contested by others. Thus the study explores how white Rhodesian auto/biographies depend on the imperial repertoire to construct varying, even contradicting, images of white identities and the Rhodesian nation, which are also contested by black nationalist life narratives. The narratives by women writers, both white and black, introduced further instabilities to the male authored narratives by moving beyond the conventional understanding of what is ‘political’ in political auto/biographies. The HIV and AIDS narratives by black women thrust into the public sphere personalized versions of self so that the political consequence of their inclusion was not only to image Zimbabwe as a diseased society, but one desperately in need of political solutions to confront the different pathologies inherited from colonialism and which also have continued in the post-independence period.

Unknown Date (has links)
Anthony Giddens’ theory indicating reflexivity and modernity which pose separation of time and space and disembedding as two main characters considered the forces triggering the change between traditional and modern society sets the frame of this thesis. Compared to paper-based traditional diary, on-line diary exiting on internet characterized by pesudonymity virtuality and interactivity provides a much more open construction of self-identity. The result of this study discovered that the secrecy and author right are uncontrollable, moreover, the response of on-line-diary-readers enhance, meanwhile worry the willingness of on-line-diary-keeping, as a result, the self-construction work of on-line diary is not as open as it promises.
