Eketorps veckningar : Hur arkeologi formar tid, rum och kön / The Folds of Eketorp : How Archaeology Shapes Time, Space and Gender

Engström, Elin January 2015 (has links)
This thesis examines the history of the cultural heritage site of Eketorp, a prehistoric ring-fort, on the island of Öland, Sweden. The archaeological excavations at Eketorp, which began in 1964, lasted for a decade and soon turned into one of the largest archaeological research projects in Sweden. The scale and the implementation of the excavations, as an interdisciplinary and international research project, fostered a whole generation of archaeologists and resulted in numerous research publications. After the excavations the archaeological site was transformed into a full-scale archaeological reconstruction by the Swedish National Heritage Board. Since the mid-1980s the site has been a popular tourist attraction and open-air museum. The history of the site itself connects to several academic fields, including archaeology, history of archaeology, cultural heritage and museum studies. Through Ludwig Fleck’s concept thought collective and Donna Haraway’s situated knowledge, which are used as analytical tools, the aim of this thesis is to explore how these different fields interacted throughout the history of Eketorp. Further, the analytical tools are used to highlight how these interactions have generated notions of time, space, and gender. The study takes an interdisciplinary approach with the history of Eketorp analysed in three analytical chapters, each of them with different chronological and empirical focus. First, Eketorp is explored as a contemporary museum space through ethnographic fieldwork. Second, archive material is used to analyse how the archaeological excavation and the following archaeological reconstruction were conducted during the 1960s and onwards. Third, scientific texts are used to analyse how interpretations of Eketorp as a prehistoric site has changed. The concluding chapter integrates the results of the three chapters in order to critically examine how notions of time, space and gender interconnect between these fields. Illustrated by a wide chronological and interdisciplinary approach, the central argument of the thesis is thus that the Eketorp thought collective and thought style, intimately connected to hierarchies in academic practice, were created, performed, and maintained through several scientific and heritage institutions.

Juneskär, Christoffer January 2016 (has links)
This bachelor’s thesis is about art & design and the way the tools used creating these impacts both the work process and the finished piece. To research this, works of art and design from three historic art & design movements and the world the creators of these lived in are analyzed. This research was then applied to the making of a motion graphic which interprets these works using modern tools. In the conclusion & discussion part of the thesis the studied impact is then discussed.

In contrast, feminist epistemology defends the production of situated knowledge, seeking a partial and critical positioning. In this thesis, I discuss knowledge about language produced under a feminist standpoint, assuming that knowledge is produced not only in the academy, but also by counter-hegemonic, minority, or minoritized groups. To this end, I analyze the texts of a group of feminist women on the internet, named Blogueiras Feministas, to identify the language conceptions that are at stake in their concerns, by studying their texts posted from October 2010 to October 2011, totaling 365 posts and 54 authors. The modern science paradigm, constituted from the XVI-XVII centuries on as the only legitimate form of producing knowledge, was based on the notion of scientific rationality, achieved by means of a strict set of methodological rules and epistemological principles, as well as on political and economic factors, in which the process of colonization played a fundamental role. In this thesis, I use the metaphor of vision to explain this paradigm, because modern science lies on this metaphor and on the idea of the specific ways in which the eye is directed toward the object to differ from other forms of knowledge production. Furthermore, modern science paradigm defends that, while anyone can see an object, only the trained scientist can interpret what is seen. I contrast this paradigm with the idea of an embodied, marked, partial, limited, non-transcendent, i.e. situated nature of vision. Hegemonic Linguistics was established as a science during the development of nation-states, the consolidation of science itself, and the emergence of the sociological subject. Based on dictionaries and introduction guides, which limit the field and are used in the education and training of new scientists, I explore Linguistics, passing through its legitimate areas and authors verifying, precisely, how the history of this discipline is presented, which language conceptions are emphasized in the official context and what kind of metalanguage is used. Finally, the analysis of language conceptions displayed in the texts of Blogueiras Feministas indicates that they see language from a discursive perspective and think about language practices from its effects and strategies for possible changes. The main effects identified by Blogueiras Feministas are the naturalization and essentialization of identities; among the strategies of resistance and change they emphasize the need of raising awareness about the inconsistencies of our speech, multiplying discourses and voices, using inclusive language and thinking about the possibilities of producing new meanings.

Retorik i reklam

Karlsson, Felicia January 2017 (has links)
In this Bachelor thesis I want to find out if Aristoteles rhetorical elements still is relevant in advertising on digital platforms. His element is Ethos, Pathos och Logos. Ethos is about the characters. For example, a person can convince with a smile. The person seem to be nice when she or he smile. Logos is information and arguments, both what is written in text and what pictures told us and also what the typography and colours communicate to us. In my investigation I use situated knowledge as a method. For situating I make some analysis of websites, I interviewing three persons and then ask if they were convinced of the websites and I read some text about rhetoric and visual communication. The reason why I use this method is because the advertising have to be accountable. With other words, the advertising have to be useful. It have to convince the consumers. In my survey I found out that Aristoteles rhetorical elements are used today and that they convince. A lot of information and pictures on the company's range and on characters when they smile, have fatigues or is with animals convince. The typography on a logotype to a foodstore have to be nicely and the text have to be legible. The right colour to a foodstore is green because is associates to the nature and some food is green. A lot of food come from the nature.

Kroppen i film & animation

Helland, Emma, Almroos, Mimmie January 2017 (has links)
Nyckelord: Accountability, mimesis, situated kunskap, matter matters. / Abstract This is a work with focus on the body, the body in our reality and how it moves compared to how it looks and moves in animation and film. An examination which have been done, focusing on bigger companies and how they have used the body in their animations and films. It also compares these companies and how they used the body to create feelings, expressions and how they have used movement. This will lead to a design with the body in focus consisting of some animations and video clips. Words like matter matters (Barad. 2007) and mimesis (Olofsson. Olsson. Sörbom. u.å) to see what details that make a difference, importance and to mimic what the eye sees of the body in reality. With help of using analysing methods to review films to see what the creators used of the body to later on use it to advantage in our own design. With some help from methods that tries out and compare animations and filmed materials, putting them together, beside each other and on top on each other. How words have helped us to create what we have created and their meaning of it all. An ending part that discuss and summarize what the examination have come to and what the design turned into. What the research meant during the examination and what has been used and not been used. Keywords: Accountability, mimesis, situated knowledge, matter matters.

Hultin, Sofi, Lövberg, Hannah January 2020 (has links)
In this bachelor thesis, we’ve researched how a game’s narrative replayability is affected by a character’s reflection of the gameworld through the creation of a design - which focuses on the relationship between the world, the characters, and the player. By building a narrative with the help of existing narrative structures, we’ve provided ourselves with a testing ground where we can research our implementation of different methods to study the results. Through Donna J. Haraway’s theory about situated knowledge we’ve examined the narrative replayability from the perspective of the game world, the characters and the player. This has resulted in an understanding of a narrative’s replayability within games, and how perspective and context affect the story and how it’s situated. In our demo we create replayability by driving a false narrative that allows the player their own perspective depending on their own interpretation.

We don't need another 4000 neighbours : a critical design strategy that values the existing Hagalund

Friberg, Elin January 2015 (has links)
In August 2014 a development strategy for Hagalund, a million program area situated in Solna, was published. The strategy argues that a densification of the area would increase the local supply of services and cultural activities and that the existing needs of investment in the urban environment is dependent on the revenues that new housing would provide. The report proposes a densification of the area up to 1800 new apartments. The current housing stock is 2100 dwellings. I argue that the development strategy is not based on the needs of the existing Hagalund and its residents, but rather tries to meet the economic interests of property owners, the municipality and the imagined needs of a future population. In this diploma work I design an alternative participatory strategy to identify needs and potentials of an existing built environment and its social community, since I see a lot of potentials and qualitites, rather than problems, in Hagalund. I have chosen to value the situated knowledge of the current community by collecting opinions and reactions from people I have met during my thesis work and formulated them into an alternative future for Hagalund where the existing built environment and its social community are valued as key elements in a more socially sustainable future for Hagalund.

When the stone stopped moving, Counter-curation as site specific interaction design

Pedersen, Anna Navndrup January 2015 (has links)
Rural place is often overlooked in interaction design research. This thesis is centered around an analog interaction between humans and a 35 ton stone in a danish forest, on the rural island of Bornholm. With a methodological approach influenced by Donna Haraway's essay 'Situated Knowledges' the author approaches her site-specific topic both as a local, a tourist and a researcher. The thesis offers a close study of the interaction with the stone, and explains how this natural occurring interaction, has physically shaped the landscape around it, but also reveals the curation imposed upon rural place and and how this curation affects our sense of place. The researcher suggests that counter-curations can be used as a method for site-specific interaction designers, and exemplifies this by curating a natural site as well as a rural village site. The stone in the forest opens up for a project about the multiple identities of rural place and how theses are shaped in deep intertwining and tension between the past and present, human and nature.

Färg och minne i berättande bild

Thepparit, Tunyaporn January 2017 (has links)
With this Bachelor thesis, I want to enlighten if there are some connection between how we relate to colours in relations to separate places and how mush our previous experiences interfere with this relation. With the support of Donna Haraway´s works with the concept situated knowledge and with the concept diffraction of Karen Barad. In this Bachelor thesis, I use the concept diffraction as a tool in the design process. Colour is something as we see around us all the time in daily life. Therefor our memory connects colours together in a consciousness way and a unconsciousness way with a lot of different things as Places, Company Logos, food, different kind of Houses, Cars and Flowers among others. Because of my Bachelor thesis is about Pictures and colours, have I used a tool for analyses called Semiotic analyse, with this tool I got some support in the way of interpretation of colours and shapes in different Pictures. The conclusion is about how mush previous experience are going to affect the visual memory that is to say association between colours and separate places, a lot, little or almost nothing. The result is probably going to be some kind of influence.
