Smart Warehouses : A case study of organizational planning in unpredictable environments / Smart Warehouses : A case study of organizational planning in unpredictable environments

Meisingseth, Anna-Sara, Nilsson, Jacob January 2023 (has links)
Purpose – The study aimed to investigate long-term organizational planning in a smart warehouse environment with unpredictable demand to understand how these organizations are able to make sustainable decisions from a social and economic perspective.   Methodology – To fulfil the purpose of the study, a single case study was conducted which included six interviews and two observations at the case company. The interviews were conducted to increase the understanding of organizational planning in unpredictable environments whereas the observations were conducted to increase the understanding of smart warehouses. The empirical data was interpreted and analyzed through thematic data analysis and triangulation in order to identify patterns in the collected data.  Findings – Ten sustainable decisions were identified from theory and empirical data, of which five decisions regarding social sustainability and five decisions regarding economic sustainability. These decisions can be used as a guide for organizations operating in smart warehouses to promote sustainable long-term organizational planning.   Implications – The study’s theoretical contributions refer to an insight of how smart e-commerce warehouses are influenced by unpredictable demand and the impact on the daily operations. Furthermore, the study provides an increased understanding of RCSR systems.  The practical contributions refer to the ten sustainable decisions which can promote strategic decision-making for sustainable long-term organizational planning. Moreover, the study contributes to the insight of what competencies are needed within Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0 organizations and how to these competencies can be promoted.  Limitations – If a multiple-case study would have been conducted it is possible that further perspectives of the sustainable decisions would have been detected. It is also possible if more employees would have been participated in the interviews that other perspectives would have been achieved.

Utmaningar med AI i jordbruket : En Kvalitativ Intervjustudie Om Hur Svenska Jordbruksföretag Verksamma Inom Ai Arbetar Med Social Hållbarhet

Hägerström, Johan, Kardefelt, Edwin January 2022 (has links)
With the expanded use of artificial intelligence, the need to secure its use over a longer time horizon increases, which raises questions about ethical and social sustainability. Agriculture is one of the sectors where implementation already has taken off and is predicted to play an even bigger role in the future with promises to solve the challenges agriculture as a societal pillar is faced with. The increase in demand, uncertain production for farmers and climate changes can all be adressed through the use of artificial intelligence with solutions that guarantee more stable and predictable harvests in a more economical and ecologically friendly manner. This study aims to investigate how swedish companies working with AI relate to a unified framework based on the works of AISC and AI4People to see how they relate to the criteria for social sustainability and understand their challenges. Interviews are done with people active in the sector to examine their experiences with their work. This data is then analized in connection to each criteria posed by the framework in the light of existing litterature on the topic. The findings show that AI used in swedish agriculture today by large live up to the criteria posed by the framework and that many of the challenges for further transparency and objectivity are adressed through the new laws regarding AI proposed by the EU. If the proposal will become law it could lead to a more socially sustainable AI in swedish agriculture.

Hernandez, Natali, Maslesa, Lejla January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to create an understanding of Gröna Lund working for a sustainable amusement park from the social sustainability perspective with a focus on concerts. We also want to get visitors' perspectives on how they experience Gröna Lund at concerts from the social sustainability perspective. This study has a qualitative research strategy and contains twelve semi-structured interviews that deal with the area of concerts at Gröna Lund from the visitors' perspective. With the help of the interviews, we have been able to create a greater understanding of how visitors have experienced concerts from the social sustainability perspective. The theory this study will address is the sustainability development work Agenda 2030 practiced by the UN. The aspects of sustainability development are ecological, economic and social concepts. This study will focus on the social aspect of sustainability. The study indicates that Gröna Lund strives for a sustainable amusement park with a priority on the economic and ecological aspect. What Gröna Lund does based on the social aspect is to work with guest satisfaction, safety, security, experience and that their employees should generate diversity. The interview participants' experience at concerts at Gröna Lund indicates that the negative factors are more than the positive ones and affect their experience at the amusement park.

Social Investments: “It’s going slow, but it’s happening” : A study on the feasibility and future of Social Bonds and Social Outcome Contracts in Sweden

Lebsund, Emelie, Samuelsson, Fanny January 2022 (has links)
As we face increasingly complex problems of both a social and environmental nature, innovative and multifaceted solutions are required to create a sustainable future. Despite Sweden's leading position in terms of financial solutions to environmental issues, Sweden is behind most OECD economies in the development of a financial infrastructure for private investment for social and socio-economic projects. In our essay, we examine what the conditions are for social investments in Sweden. The purpose of our study is to investigate and analyze incentives, challenges, and opportunities for social investments in the Swedish capital market. In our approach, we investigated the institutional conditions for the implementation of social investments in a Swedish context, and the various areas of responsibility associated with social investments. In addition, we have analyzed how transaction costs and the organizational structure affect social investments in Sweden. It is also those four relationships that formed the basis of the study's analysis model, which have been used to analyze the empirical material. A qualitative method has been used to answer the purpose of the study. A total of ten semi-structured interviews were conducted with representatives from the Swedish financial industry and the public sector. The study shows that the demand for increased measurability and a more data-driven approach, as well as the possibility of a more well-diversified portfolio, constitute incentives to invest socially sustainable. The challenges identified essentially deal with risk management, control, and organizational structure. The fundamental possibility of social investment, in the form of social outcome contracts, is its potential to generate a win-win-win situation, where all parties benefit from the outcome. In addition, we also found opportunities linked to the organizational structure and control, as these could facilitate future implementation in a Swedish context. It is proposed that the development of the limited company form would serve as inspiration for a more organic development and adaptation to the Swedish market.

Jansson, Amanda, Kavey, Ardalan January 2022 (has links)
For many centuries, zoos have been used to satisfy human curiosity but have recently become a center for conservation, education, research and recreation. A lot of studies on zoos have covered the ecological in the sustainability work and very few in the social aspect that includes the ethical aspect. Organizations today have a great influence on society and influence the development of society. Today, consumers have also become increasingly aware and engaged in the issue of sustainability and thus place higher demands on companies when it comes to their responsibility towards society. This essay aims to study how Parken Zoo in Eskilstuna works with social sustainability and how it is perceived by their visitors. To fulfill the purpose and answer our questions, the study is based on a mix-method that consists of semi-structured interviews with two important participants with a decision-making role at the park, the CEO and the communicator. In parallel with this, a survey was published in selected Facebook groups to reach the visitors' perception of the social sustainability work at the park. The theories that this study will address include sustainable development focusing on the social aspect and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). In the results section, the students give the result a context by reminding the reader how the purpose, the question at issue and method are related to the result that has been collected.

Managing Diversity in Organizations: The Implementation of Strategies, Practices and Measurements to Enhance Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Workforces : A Qualitative Case Study of Diversity Management in Organizations Operating in Sweden

Axelsson, Emma Louise January 2022 (has links)
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) has received increasing attention among organizations and in research as the world becomes increasingly globalized and internationalized. However, there is still limited research on how diversity management is performed in organizations and a neglected focus on social sustainability linked to DEI, which underlines the need to further study implemented practices to promote DEI in organizations. Thus, the aim of this study is to broaden the knowledge of how diversity management is performed in organizations. The research questions are (1) What strategies and practices are implemented by diversity and HR managers to integrate DEI in organizations? and (2) How are the results of DEI strategies and practices measured in organizations?  A case study of DEI as a phenomenon was conducted to explore the strategies, practices, and measurements used in organizations to increase DEI in the recruitment, retention, and promotion of employees. A qualitative research method based on semi-structured interviews was used to examine DEI from the perspective of diversity and HR managers in nine organizations. The theoretical framework was based on practice theory.  The empirical findings show that organizations use various strategies and practices to integrate DEI in the recruitment, retention, and promotion of employees. Organizations focus mainly on gender and ethnicity in the context of DEI and the most common practices are awareness training on DEI, bias, harassment, and discrimination. Furthermore, the findings show that most organizations do not use DEI measurements or targets systematically, making it difficult to measure the progress and outcomes of DEI practices. Moreover, there is a need for specific targets covering DEI parameters besides gender and ethnicity, to include other minorities and discriminated groups. This thus requires structured efforts to create measurement tools for DEI practices to facilitate the monitoring and evaluation of progress and outcomes of DEI practices.

Urbana studierum : länken mellan två campusnoder / Urban study rooms : The link between two campus nodes

Videhult Lagerstedt, Vilma, Ottosson, Emma January 2022 (has links)
The school year 2021/2022 Malmö was appointed as the Student City of TheYear, with the motivation; “It is a city to live, and thrive in, both before, duringand after their studies and the students are seen as an obvious part of the city’sdevelopment” (SFS, 2021). Simultaneously the City of Malmö along with Malmöuniversity wants to further the development of the student city Malmö, and thequestions as to what this change and improvement could look like arises. Here, asactive students and residents of the city, our work comes in as an important link inthis issue. The intent of this bachelor’s thesis is to achieve both involvement and establishmentof the student in the urban context, where urban study environments can createa liveliness and connection outside the halls of the university. We do this byinvestigating how an implementation of Urban studyrooms could create theopportunities for students to become part of Malmö’s urban context.Through an explorative approach, we build our theoretical application through thecollection of empirical data, previous research and theories together with our ownexperiences of the student city of Malmö. The intent of applying an exploratorycourse of action is to generate more knowledge on a topic that has not previouslybeen defined or explored. In order to create a more distinct perception of the city and relevant areas for ourwork, it requires that a great part of the undertaking is based on empirical analyses, this provides a deeper understanding of the city, its uses and significant connectionsbetween student and city. The empirical collection is based on three phases of areaanalysis with a supplementary survey. As a basis for understanding the city’s futurevisions around the student city of Malmö, we have also studied Malmö’s overviewplan and Campus plan Malmö university 2040.The defined designation of what an Urban Studyroom is and further can become isbased on the two main keywords on which the concept is developed upon. Manyof the characteristics associated with today’s study rooms are implemented in aninnovative way in novel contexts. Our project will suggest an implementation of thementioned Urban studyrooms being relocated out into the city, creating an urbanhub for learning. A place that creates opportunities for the students to become apart of Malmö’s urban context. Throughout the project, we define what an Urbanstudyroom is, with support in theories about successful urban spaces, campusdesign and the surrounding environment’s impact on people and learning. The thesis proposal presents a design proposal for Urban studyrooms, whichcan provide a foundation for Malmö university and the City of Malmö for furtherdevelopment of Malmö as a city for students.

Women’s Careers: Challenges and Opportunities in the Swedish Energy Industry / Kvinnors karriärer: Möjligheter och utmaningar i den svenska energibranschen

Francke, Elsa, Kakavandy, Hanna January 2022 (has links)
Practices to promote gender equality and equal opportunities for men and women have become an important part of many organizations' agenda. However, women are still experiencing challenges in career advancement to a larger extent than men. This is due to structural, cultural and societal factors and other types of discrimination against women. This thesis aims to explore the experienced challenges and opportunities for career advancement by women in the Swedish energy industry, a male dominated industry. Although Sweden is a leading country regarding gender equality, women are still paid less and are exposed to discrimination and subordination. The energy industry has made efforts to improve gender equality, focusing on wage and gender distribution, but there is still more to be done to achieve equal opportunities for men and women. This thesis combines qualitative and quantitative methods and presents empirical data on women’s experiences of career and its challenges and opportunities. The empirical data is based on a survey with female respondents that are members of an organization that promotes gender equality within the energy industry. The findings indicate that the women experience both structural and cultural discrimination in their organizations, where they often are subordinated to men. Furthermore, results also indicate that men empower other men in career advancement in the organizations. Moreover, the current gender order together with gender structures create challenges for women in their careers in male dominated industries. However, there are situations where the respondents describe how they benefit from their gender minority situation, indicating opportunities for career advancement.

Employment requirements in public procurement : Can shared value be created? / Sysselsättningskrav i offentlig upphandling : Kan delat värde skapas?

Larsson, Hanna, Stålhult, Josefine January 2017 (has links)
Social sustainability is one of the three dimensions that make up sustainable development. The social dimension has for long been seen as the weakest and has often been ignored in favour of the economic and ecological dimension. The importance of the social dimension is getting more recognition both by the private and the public sector and as a result of external pressures, companies have started to work with their social responsibility to strengthen their competitiveness on the market. From this way of working, the concept of creating shared value has been introduced by professor Michael E. Porter and lecturer Mark R. Kramer who suggests that companies can create economic value by creating societal value and thereby create shared value. They argue that companies can, by addressing a social issue and using their power, create shared values in our society. Employment requirements in public procurement is one way of addressing the social sustainability in the society and together with the prevailing construction boom and the shortage of manpower, companies must look for new places to recruit. Hence, the purpose of this descriptive research is to contribute with knowledge on how employment requirements are used in Sweden and study the development of the concept creating shared value. Additionally, it is investigated if employment requirements in public procurements can be used to create shared value. Two examples of varied character serve the basis of the empirics. The theory of creating shared value originates, as mentioned earlier, from creating social value and thereby creating economic value which, in turn, creates shared value. The study shows that, even though Porter and Kramer’s theory of creating shared value might not be fully applicable in public procurement, employment requirements can be a way of creating shared value in the society. Through collaboration between the private and the public sector, social issues such as unemployment, can be addressed and mitigated.

Could collective housing be a solution for the housing crisis and the social isolation?

Bergman, Hanna January 2019 (has links)
his study is exploring whether collective housing could mean a solution to the housing crisis and if this form of housing at the same time could achieve social sustainability. It is of interest to achieve social sustainability in order to decrease social isolation and mental illness that spreads mainly among young people in Sweden (Eckerdal, C. et al., 2018). This is examined by looking at the social benefits that can be found by charing home with others that is not your direct family and see if this form of housing could be seen as an attractive housing alternative of people in different socio-economic groups. The results are based on interviews and scientific articles that together concludes that this way of housing may not be an over all solution for the housing crisis in Sweden but may contribute to some positive change in both the housing market and in the inhabitants mental health, which the results of this text indicates. The way people live has a big impact on their possibilities to create a sustainable social life and it is important for humans to feel safe (Alfredsson, B., 1979). Humans way of socialise is directly related to their social connection which is why an unsafe living situation could have negative consequences on humans social life and mental health (Satici, S. A et al., 2015). This way of living could become more and more popular with inhabitant in need of a home (Törnqvist, M.,2019) and an increased wish from people to become a part of a community as a result of the urbanisation and an individualism (Vestbro D., 2010).
