Characterization of an ancestral territory of the indigenous community of Macedonia was performed (Colombian Amazon located 57 km upstream from Leticia); through the cultural maps analysis obtained of ethnographic methodology based on social mapping and one analysis through intersubjective processes of consensus. As a result, georeferenced maps that generate an approximation of non-places that give access to shamanistic macro-space were obtained, which in turn is used to generate a local cultural revaluation that encourage glocalization processes in the context of globalization.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The traditional cartography aims to find points and sites themselves, often leaving aside other important elements to the location shown on the map. In this perspective, the cartography seems to be just a framework of point locations and places, strategic or not. The making of a map is typically linked to trained professionals for that which, in fact, is required when taken into account the scientific and the use of the techniques necessary for the accurate location. However, one must take into account that there are other ways of cartography that do not necessarily require location accuracy, but rather perception. The map, in addition to the location function is for social, anthropological, historical, biological or even geographic locations studies and also be the product of these studies. In this sense, create new methods and meanings to the cartography can lead to several problems found in the disciplinary field, it is necessary to open the doors to the outside, to the new. That´s what the construction of a new cartography need: insert new insights and perspectives about the forms of representation, without losing the essential character of a map of the location. Considering the strategic importance of the Itabaiana city for the state of Sergipe, we understand that a study involving the view that social groups have of the city is quite relevant. The work has as main objective to analyze the socioeconomic, cultural and environmental potential of Itabaiana from the social cartography produced by students of the campus of the Federal University of Sergipe in the municipality. Specific objectives were proposed: to identify UFS students views from socioeconomic, cultural and environmental Itabaiana city; interpret the social cartography produced by students; and present views of students on campus of the UFS in Itabaiana through social cartography in order to facilitate studies that emphasize the importance of social cartography to aid more effective public policies that take into account aspects often unnoticed by the look manager. It was found from the views of respondents that social cartography is a tool that enables reading of the perceptions of places, so as to contribute for the planning and better distribution and allocation of public resources, as well as it serves as a source of research for several areas of knowledge.

Social cartographies of internationalization of higher education in Canada:a study of exceptionalist tendencies and articulationsSuša, R. (Rene) 05 December 2016 (has links)
Abstract
This research project explores how notions of Canadian exceptionalism are being challenged and/or reproduced in responses of students of seven Canadian universities to a survey related to internationalization of higher education. The study analyses data from surveys (n=1451) completed by undergraduate students in different disciplines collected between 2013 and 2015. This data is part of a larger database of surveys that was developed within the Ethical Internationalization in Higher Education (EIHE) research project (2012–2016).
This research adopts a mixed-methods approach to the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data. A post-representational approach to the methodology of social cartography is used to map two facets of the data. These facets are the general discursive field in which various exceptionalist tendencies are being contested and/or reproduced, and the multiple dimensions of articulations of exceptionalist tendencies.
Canadian exceptionalism is in this research understood as a complex set of self-constitutive discursive practices, policies, self-perceptions and assumptions that simultaneously affirm and construct an imaginary of Canadian society and Canadian nationals as morally, ethically and culturally superior by exalting both the nationals’ and the nation-state’s inherent character as already good global citizens. Exceptionalism is used as an umbrella term that joins together several problematic aspects of unexamined ennobled narratives about the nation and national subjects. In this research the concept of exceptionalism is developed by drawing on multiple critiques of different aspects of liberal subjectivities.
The findings suggest that exceptionalist tendencies and articulations can be observed in the responses of both international and Canadian students. They also suggest that while critical thinking and engagement with diversity are valued highly by almost all students, the responses in the survey exhibit a high level of ambivalence in terms of how (and to what extent) critical thinking is deployed, while diversity is often constructed in commodified ways that seem to indicate a desire for consumption of the Other’s difference for personal and/or national benefit.

Previous issue date: 2018-03-28 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This present thesis according to cultural studies in their contemporary line of thought. The aim
of this study is implementing anti-racist politics from a critic and conceptual about
communicative process actualized by the Teatro Experimental do Negro (TEN). Created in
1944 from Rio de Janeiro city by Abdias Nascimento (1914-2011) the TEN is categorized as a
political-aesthetic and artistic organization that developed actions as a mechanism for valuing
Brazilian black culture and person. Our hypothesis is based by the idea that the TEN created
mechanisms for the black population to articulate and create means to be present in theatrical
stages, in academic productions, in the labor market, in social life, as well as to affirm their
racial identity; this makes us use the following question: what would be the body and black
corporeity, working from the TEN, if not a receptacle of subversion and transgression to the
situation of the black person in the theatrical and social scenario of the time? In this sense,
through social cartography and documentary analysis, we search to achieve one of the central
objectives of the work, which is to understand how the TEN initiatives, marked by
confrontation with the hegemonic aesthetics and valorization of culture, black and AfroBrazilian
identity, contributed to reorient socio-spatial trajectories in Brazil. In this way, we
study social cartography as a mechanism of speech of the subalternized person, socio-spatial
trajectories as a movement of exchange of affections and how these lines cross in the search
for an affected theory. We also reflect on the possibility of thinking about citizenship in
construction, as well as the social mediations made possible by theatrical art. We also bring to
the debate the discussion on racism and anti-racism from Abdias Nascimento’s exile; we also
considered the possibility and suggestion of an anti-racist agenda for the Brazilian black
population.
Experimental do Negro (TEN).

A Youth Vision of the City: The Socio-Spatial Lives and Exclusion of Street Girls in Bogota, ColombiaRitterbusch, Amy E 20 April 2011 (has links)
This dissertation documents the everyday lives and spaces of a population of youth typically constructed as out of place, and the broader urban context in which they are rendered as such. Thirty-three female and transgender street youth participated in the development of this youth-based participatory action research (YPAR) project utilizing geo-ethnographic methods, auto-photography, and archival research throughout a six-phase, eighteen-month research process in Bogotá, Colombia.
This dissertation details the participatory writing process that enabled the YPAR research team to destabilize dominant representations of both street girls and urban space and the participatory mapping process that enabled the development of a youth vision of the city through cartographic images. The maps display individual and aggregate spatial data indicating trends within and making comparisons between three subgroups of the research population according to nine spatial variables. These spatial data, coupled with photographic and ethnographic data, substantiate that street girls’ mobilities and activity spaces intersect with and are altered by state-sponsored urban renewal projects and paramilitary-led social cleansing killings, both efforts to clean up Bogotá by purging the city center of deviant populations and places.
Advancing an ethical approach to conducting research with excluded populations, this dissertation argues for the enactment of critical field praxis and care ethics within a YPAR framework to incorporate young people as principal research actors rather than merely voices represented in adultist academic discourse. Interjection of considerations of space, gender, and participation into the study of street youth produce new ways of envisioning the city and the role of young people in research. Instead of seeing the city from a panoptic view, Bogotá is revealed through the eyes of street youth who participated in the construction and feminist visualization of a new cartography and counter-map of the city grounded in embodied, situated praxis. This dissertation presents a socially responsible approach to conducting action-research with high-risk youth by documenting how street girls reclaim their right to the city on paper and in practice; through maps of their everyday exclusion in Bogotá followed by activism to fight against it.

[pt] A EDUCAÇÃO GEOGRÁFICA E SUAS POTENCIALIDADES NO COMBATE À INTOLERÂNCIA RELIGIOSA / [en] GEOGRAPHICAL EDUCATION AND ITS POTENTIAL IN COMBATING RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCEADRIANA BENAZZI 30 November 2021 (has links)
[en] The phenomenon of Intolerance is complex, lasting and presents itself in
different ways, including its religious manifestation. Therefore, given all these
difficulties, it needs to be debated in various sectors of society, including the school
environment. Thus, the present work addresses its discussion through Geographic
Education, highlighting language as an important element in such a situation.
Geographical thinking, a formative element of Geographic Education, is crucial for
understanding reality, and therefore allows the phenomenon in question to be
understood. Associated with geographical thinking, the cartographic language,
which is a language specific to Geography, can represent a valuable tool in the fight
against Intolerance. From this perspective, we see in Social Cartography a powerful
path that can contribute to the transformation of the scenario of Intolerance.

Previous issue date: 2006-12-27 / This report has as its objective the setting up of a social cartography, mapping and characterizing non-governmental organizations working with adolescents and young people (OSC) in the western districts of the city of Natal. Characteristics such as the profile, themes and principal activities, how the organizations fit into the public sector and their participation in social networks are observed. Thus common differences and similarities which serve as a means of indentification, take as reference the symbolic cartography of Boaventura of Sousa Santos. Since there are relatively few studies relating to civil society of Rio Grande do Norte and in particular, Natal, the starting point was the setting up of a database allowing for a general overview. Hence a panorama of the organizations could be observed: where they are located, when they were formed how they operate and their relationships with other sectors (the state, the market and civil society) in addition to basic facts and location. The principal lines of enquiry were a) the OSC which operate with the public comprising adolescents and young people and b) the OSC operating or having branches in four suburbs on the periphery of the western administrative region of the city (Felipe Camar?o, Bom Pastor, Cidade Nova and Guararapes). The present report has identified the impacts of ongoing social transformation caused by the process of globalization ,by the various currently contested political projects which are as follows: the project of neoliberal globalized capitalism(hegemonic)and the project of social emancipation (contra-hegemonic),how these are seen from the local viewpoint and how they influence the profiles and operation of the cartographic organizations. The area of the OSC is a heterogenous one with political, cultural and ideological strains, characterized by its infiltration, its local/global and multicultural dimensions. As civil organizations are fundamental in the processes of transformation within society, and following the idea of social emancipation referred to by Boaventura Santos, the enquiry classified the organizations according to the afore-mentioned characteristics, establishing eight types of associations. These different types and their respective characteristics were analysed from a related perspective using the mechanisms of symbolic cartography: scale, projection and symbolisation. The theoretical references underpinning this research arise from the debate on civil society which becomes redefined as a result of the dispute involving the two afore-mentioned political projects. These demand the theoretical application of the comprehension of heterogeneity in its diversity and complexity together with the idea of social emancipation. The main authors consulted were Boaventura de Sousa Santos, Antonio Gramsci, through the texts translated by Marco Aurelio Nogueira; Carlos Nelson Coutinho and Alberto Rivera ,who supported the construction of the types of associations identified by the local reality. Finally this research enabled an understanding of the current form of social action happening in the Space of the Four Neighbourhoods (Espa?o dos 4 Bairros) and how the distinct profiles analysed together with the ares of operation of the organizations define their emancipatory potencials within the following two poles: regulation/adaptation and emancipation/transformation / Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo realizar uma cartografia social com vistas a mapear e caracterizar as organiza??es da sociedade civil (OSC) que atuam com adolescentes e jovens da Regi?o Oeste da cidade de Natal, observando-se suas caracter?sticas quanto: ao perfil, temas, atividades principais, formas de inser??o no espa?o p?blico e participa??o em redes sociais, buscando identificar as diferen?as e semelhan?as que as singularizam e identificam.
