[pt] DESIGN DE SERVIÇOS, COMUNICAÇÃO E INOVAÇÃO SOCIAL: UM ESTUDO SOBRE SERVIÇOS DE ATENÇÃO PRIMÁRIA À SAÚDE / [en] DESIGN FOR SERVICES, COMMUNICATION AND SOCIAL INNOVATION: A STUDY ABOUT PRIMARY CARE HEALTH SERVICES

KARINE DE MELLO FREIRE 03 June 2019 (has links)
[en] This thesis investigates the design discipline contribution on primary care health services social innovation. To this end, the thesis has been divided in three stages: (1) desk research about design, service and service design disciplines; (2) participant observational research in Design in Practice research project at Lancaster University, where it was possible to identify the service designers approaches to create new services for British National Health System (NHS); (3) an action research to evaluate the potential of service design method by creating a new primary care health service for patients with type II diabetes, in the Brazilian context. This design project was conducted at Vila Gaucha Basic Health Unit, at Porto Alegre city, by using experience based design approach. At this stage, it was possible to make a service design intervention; to create a new primary care health service for patients with diabetes type II and to evaluate the results reached by this new service. The results shows that the design competence could contribute in different ways for the creation of new primary care health services: (1) by interpreting service value and meaning for different actors involved in its use; and (2) by translating this knowledge into a visual language understandable to all, allowing the co-creation of solution; (3) by configurating services concepts, it building a persuasive argument about how people should act in a certain situation; and (4) by including these people, whose behaviour needs to be affected, in the argument co-creation process, design makes more favourable the emergence of a social innovation. As a result of this investigation, this thesis proposes a method for designing services that focus on social innovation.

Exploring interaction design for counter-narration and agonistic co-design – Four experiments to increase understanding of, and facilitate, an established practice of grassroots activism

Palmér, Daniel January 2012 (has links)
This is a documentation of a programmatic design approach, moving through different levels of an established practice of grassroots activism. The text frames an open-ended, exploratory methodology, as four stages of investigation, trying to find possible ways to shape and increase understanding of, and facilitate a process, of co-designing a practice. It presents the experience of looking for opportunities for counter-narration, as contribution to an activist cause, and questioning the role, purpose and approach of a designer in a grassroots activist environment.

SHIFTING GENDER DYNAMICS IN MULTINATIONAL GHANAIAN MINE JOBS : Narratives on Organizational and Sociocultural Barriers

Kilu, Rufai January 2017 (has links)
Gender is one of the central organizing principles around which social and corporate innovation revolves. The multinational Ghanaian mining is dominated by men and masculinity cultures. To gain an adequate understanding of this phenomenon, it is prudent to explore its gendered nature. This thesis reflects consciously upon the pre-entry, organizational and sociocultural barriers affecting the effective participation of women in mine jobs. And beyond the barriers, it examines what changes have occurred, occasioning a shift in gender dynamics, leading to an increasing number of women participation in the industry? The current thesis adopts a case study method, deploying a mix of quantitative and qualitative approaches; administered questionnaires, conducted individual interviews, observations, archival documents, and focus group discussions with respondents in four mining companies and a mining and technology university in Ghana. The AMOS–based structural equation modeling approach was used to analyze the quantitative data, while thematic and discourse analysis was employed in analyzing the qualitative narratives of the respondents. Results of the thesis point to the social construction of gender in science, engineering and technology education as a pre-entry barrier. Also, a complex web of male-dominance, gender bias, role models and mentorship constraints, coupled with unfriendly family work policies were noted organizational barriers. In furtherance, common prejudices, perceptions and stereotyped notions of gender roles in the mines constituted noted sociocultural factors constraining effective participation of women in mine work. However beyond the pre-entry, organizational and sociocultural barriers, the current thesis intuits a phenomenon of a ‘women’s revolution’ in the mines, witnessing collective efforts from Women in Mining Ghana as well as the mine workers’ organizations and allied institutions adopting gender strategic measures, such as the ‘ore solidarity,’ gender mainstreaming in admission programmes as well as gender-driven mining initiatives aimed at re-engineering or striking a shift in gender dynamics in the mine jobs of Ghana. Consequently, the classic and continuous male-dominance in Ghanaian mines constitute a considerable concern for mine work organizational development, with practical implications for the mining industry, employment, and  labor relation practices as well as public policy in Ghana. Therefore, affirmative action is recommended for gender deconstruction and promotion of gender democracy. Indeed this move for inclusivity will engender poverty eradication work towards achieving organizational modernization, their global competitiveness and an assurance for gender-driven social innovative mining.

Soziale Innovation – Beiträge aus der Innovationsforschung der Technischen Universität Chemnitz / Social Innovation – Treatises from the Innovation Research of the Technische Universität Chemnitz

09 June 2017 (has links) (PDF)
Social Innovation - It is regarded as an elixir of modern societies, but sparse named in social togetherness. Politicians and scholars see it as the key to new social practices, which is caused by citizens. However, the clarification contains some challenges. In this publication, which was developed at Technische Universität Chemnitz, we ask: Which paradigm is deposited? Can we comprehend the construct philosophically? How can process models of social innovation be visualized? Are there conditions of evaluation and controllability? Are non-profit organizations an incubator for social innovation? Thus, in the present volume we intend a holistic view of the described phenomenon for scientists, students and interested parties.

[en] DESIGN STRATEGIES ORIENTED TO SOCIAL INNOVATION WITH A FOCUS ON LOCAL DEVELOPMENT / [pt] ESTRATÉGIAS EM DESIGN ORIENTADAS PARA A INOVAÇÃO SOCIAL COM ENFOQUE NO DESENVOLVIMENTO LOCAL COM ENFOQUE NO DESENVOLVIMENTO LOCAL

JUCELIA SALETE GIACOMINI DA SILVA 15 May 2015 (has links)
[en] Facing the complexity of contemporary scenario and the tensions between global and local levels, effective and transformative design practices need to integrate not only material resources, but also include broader meanings, shape perceptions, thoughts, cultures, knowledge and resources that constitute and characterize a certain locality. This perspective gives place to the contribution of design in local segments starting from practices derived from the subjects’ point of view on their environment, with outlines defined from the interferences in environmental, sociopolitical, symbolic, and economic dimensions that coexist in the social locus. In order to investigate the main design strategies oriented to social innovation with a focus on local development, this research investigates the theories and practices developed in Brazilian design field, and discusses how these strategies have been implemented in the different contexts of economic-solidarity achievements. This study was conducted from theoretical and empirical research based on the content analysis method in order to map the strategies already used by Brazilian design research centers. The analysis was performed in three design research centers, including the different process of implanting and the main potentialities and barriers. The final result of this thesis consists on the elaboration of parameters for the project process, providing recommendations to the integration of design strategies oriented to social innovation and local development.

La théorisation des innovations au sein de la méta-organisation expérimentale et créative (MOEC) : étude de cas dans le champ de la santé / Theorizing innovations in a creative and experimental meta-organization : case study in the field of health

Jolly, Charlotte 15 December 2016 (has links)
For several years the health system experiencing significant changes, including how to "take care". The originality of the research is to analyze the theory of processes through the prism of social innovation in a favorable space to innovation, which is a specific organized form: the Meta-Organization Experimental and Creative (MOEC). The theorizing process is few studied and the research objectives are to enrich the literature of theoretical and empirical contributions. In this sense, this research work is to show the importance of theorizing in the institutionalization of innovation and the role of MOEC to initiate and support innovation. The research focuses on innovations developed by a plurality of actors from the field of health (health and medico-social), which gather in an open space (Shared space of public health), initiated by University Hospital of Nice. The research work is divided into four parts. The first part presents theoretical framework and links the three research subjects, "theorizing", "social innovation" and a "space for innovation : Meta-organization". They are well structured : how theorizing initiates and supports innovations in an experimental meta-organization and creative ? The second part presents the search field and the methodology used, including the epistemological choices. Given the research question, the focus is placed on three innovations developed by the EPSP : the project "Health sports seniors Saint-Roch" (4S), the "30 recommendations for retirements homes of the 21st century” and the “Center support social health (C3S)”. The third part presents the analysis of results from our different observations

Social Innovation Hubs Supporting Social Entrepreneurs: Strategically Adopting the SDGs towards Sustainability

Bhalerao, Akash, Louwerse, Sjaak, Quarmyne, Michael Tei, Ritchie, Dan January 2019 (has links)
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a well-known and comprehensive framework for sustainable development. However due to the overlapping and interrelated nature of the goals, action towards one goal can positively or negatively contribute to another.Social innovation hubs including Impact Hub and Centre for Social Innovation use the SDGs to support social entrepreneurs to have a positive impact. Document analysis and interviews with 15 practitioners from these hubs informed the research on how the organizations perceive and contribute to sustainability, how they integrate the SDGs, and the challenges and benefits with using the SDGs. Based on that, this research has developed five recommendations for social innovation hubs to: 1) Define Sustainability; 2) Enhance Visioning; 3) Design co-creative programs; 4) Define Impact;and 5) Communicate Impact. While other elements of the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development (FSSD) could be used to complement the SDGs, the Sustainability Principles (SPs) of the FSSD are recommended as a definition for sustainability.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Fernanda Cardoso Romão Freitas.pdf: 1820518 bytes, checksum: 8cb9d6a91d28616f499df295b084c5ab (MD5) Previous issue date: 2018-09-06 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The Social Impact Business (NIS) is growing in different parts of the world and Social Innovation (IS) emerges as an alternative to create innovative solutions in an inclusive way. There is evidence that Social Innovation can become important to economic and social growth. Such is due to the fact that we are experiencing transformative challenges such as Longevity Revolution, which is occurring in Brazil and in different parts of the world and requires innovative initiatives to meet new needs resulting from this transformation. In the literature review, there were identified some gaps in the field, such as: few empirical studies about Social Impact Business and Social Innovation and inexistence of studies on NIS and IS for the challenge of longevity increase. Then, from this gap and knowing that in the near future a big part of the population will be elder, we come to the question of this research: How can Social Impact Business and Social Innovation propose solutions to overcome the challenge of increasing longevity? The proposal of this research is to illustrate how Social Impact Business and Social Innovations can bring solutions to this challenge. The methodological procedures followed a qualitative and exploratory approach with interviews to obtain of evidence source. The process of data analysis was done with the help of ATLAS.ti software, based on coding technique. The results of this research show that the main challenge of the Longevity Revolution is prejudice. Other fifteen challenges were evidenced in this research. The greatest contribution in social outcome by the companies participating in this research is the possibility of social existence. This social result contributes strongly to two of the four pillars of Active Aging, which are important elements in response to the Longevity Revolution / Os Negócios de Impacto Social (NIS) estão em crescimento em diferentes partes do globo e a Inovação Social (IS) surge como uma alternativa para criar soluções inovadoras de forma inclusiva.

Agostini, Manuela Rösing 04 May 2017 (has links)

In an international scenario characterized by social inequalities, rising poverty rates and market dissymmetry, an increasing number of researchers have investigated different theories that seek to reconcile management practices and search for innovative solutions to social transformation. According to this perspective, this thesis aims to understand the process of social innovation and the factors that influence social innovation initiatives in contexts of institutional voids. Thus, social innovation is understood as the development of new solutions that generate an impact in solving social problems, involving actors and stakeholders in promoting a change in social relations, transforming local realities. Institutional voids occur when institutional arrangements do not allow the full functioning of the market leading to innumerable social inequalities, either through the absence, weakness or non-fulfillment of the role that is expected from the institutions that form the social context. In order to investigate social innovation initiatives in contexts of institutional voids, this thesis followed six methodological steps, the first one inspired in an exploratory case in an indigenous community that produces organic coffee in southern Mexico. The second step is a literature review with the identification of preliminary research proposals that were investigated in two other case studies in Brazil, one in the south and the other in the north of the country. With these cases, it was possible to reformulate the preliminary propositions, generating a document with seven proposals validated by researchers that integrate research groups in social innovation. This thesis followed the interpretative paradigm, with a qualitative research approach. Among the main results, there is the strong relationship between social innovation and the institutional context in which it is inserted, leading to the first theoretical contribution of this thesis: the presence of institutional voids intensifies social inequalities in contexts of socioeconomic vulnerability and social innovations can act to fill or soften these voids. This thesis still advances in theory by including the perspective that institutional voids originate not only from the State, market and non-profit organizations, as addressed in literature, but also from science and community rules and cultures. It was also identified that voids can also occur in contexts with a developed market and with a high concentration of institutions. Moreover, institutional voids are filled by multiple actors who have different and complementary goals and can act together in social transformation. However, for this transformation to be effective, the values, norms and culture of the actors involved must be respected through a shared negotiation of collective ideals. Another highlight is the identification of five systems to analyze the context in which social innovation initiatives are inserted: political, financial, economic, education/work, and cultural. The last theoretical contribution that this thesis presents refers to the possibility of a hybrid formation of institutions to fill institutional voids, being composed by the local communities and by dominant institutions in the institutional scenario.

In a scenario where economic inequality, damage to the environment and social exclusion are accentuated, groups of people have been working to change the reality around them in search of more sustainable ways of living. Such groups carry out activities that promote social innovations and represent possible alternatives to the dominant logic of production, consumption and conviviality. In the scope of strategic design, these groups of people are understood as creative ecosystems, in which several actors interact and produce innovative actions with transforming potential. In Porto Alegre, we identified creative ecosystems that carry out processes and practices of social innovation in terms of managing their initiatives, production, resistance and social interaction. These are: collaborative houses, collective production spaces, urban occupations and shared housing. Although there are specific characteristics of each, they have convergent values and purposes that point to a more just, egalitarian, democratic and resilient society. In this sense, they are initiatives that collaborate to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals listed by the United Nations in 2015. The intention of this research is to explore, from a strategic design perspective, the integration of such creative ecosystems so that, with this connection, strengthen themselves and be able to configure themselves as a viable alternative to the dominant logic of the ways of being and doing, especially in the city of Porto Alegre. To do this, we mapped and analyzed its activities so that it was possible to propose, from concepts derived from Manzini and Morin, a design coalition through strategic dialogues and collaborative encounters. This research therefore seeks to contribute to the discussions about design for social innovation and sustainability in a Brazilian context.
