Managing inclusive provision for pupils with speech and language disorders in Greek mainstream primary schoolsKarakosta, Efstathia January 2014 (has links)
There is a scarcity of research exploring the field of Speech and Language Disorders (SLD) in the Greek mainstream primary education context. Accordingly, the aim of this study was twofold: (i) to identify the nature and extent of speech, language and communication skills of Greek pupils with noticeably slow progress, and (ii) to examine the provision made for these pupils in Greek mainstream and inclusion classes. The study was in two phases. For the first phase, pupils whose speech and language development was below expectations were assessed using a battery of tests. Data analysis indicated no significant differences in the language profile and non-verbal reasoning ability of the pupils with SLD, General Learning Difficulties (GLD) and other Special Educational Needs (SEN). The data also gave an indication of SLD incidence in Greek mainstream primary classrooms. Phase two involved seven case studies. Together, these provided a rich profile of the speech/language and literacy functioning of the pupils identified with SLD, GLD and Specific Writing difficulties (SpWd) and the provision offered to them in Greek primary mainstream settings. The findings revealed that these pupils shared difficulties in the domains of speech/language and literacy, which impacted on their access to the curriculum and academic attainments. However, teaching practices were not differentiated according to the pupils’ specific needs or year group. Additionally, pupils’ difficulties in the above areas had a negative impact on their social participation and acceptance by peers. Overall, the study highlights the complex nature of SLD, and the similarities in the language profile and the non-verbal reasoning skills of the SLD and other SEN subgroups. This raised questions about whether SLD, as used in these schools, is a distinct area of difficulty or on a continuum with other areas of difficulties. In addition, the study raised questions regarding the assessment and identification of SLD in the Greek context, as well as the practical teaching of pupils who experience such difficulties.

Tėvų ir logopedų nuomonė apie logopedinės pagalbos teikimą vaikams, turintiems kalbėjimo ir kalbos sutrikimų / Attitude of Teachers and Speech Therapists towards Provision of Speech Assistance to Children with Language and Speech DisordersMickuvienė, Janina 17 July 2014 (has links)
1. Empirinis tyrimas rodo, kad logopedai vaikų kalbėjimo ir kalbos sutrikimams įveikti taiko tokius metodus:
• Tradicinius mokymo metodus - skaitymą, rašymą, pasakojimą, atpasakojimą ir pratybų sąsiuvinį;
• Aktyvius mokymo(si) metodus– darbą grupėmis ir vaikų pašnekesiai, dėlionės pagal seką, bendraamžių paramą;
• Siekiant pakeisti situaciją dirbant su vaikais taiko – bendrosios ir smulkiosios motorikos lavinimą, vizualizavimą, vaizdingą kalbą, vaikų patirties įtraukimą, vaizduotės skatinimą, pojūčių naudojimą, piešimą, muziką ir konstravimą.
3. Tėvų nuomone, jų vaikas... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The work carried out an analysis of documentsgoverningtheoretical special education and speech therapists’ work, speech therapy assistance methods and techniques, cooperation of speech therapists and parents.
The main conclusions of the empiric research:
1. Empiric research shows, that in order to overcome children‘s speech and language disorders speech therapists use the following methods:
• Traditional teaching methods–reading, writing, narration, a recital and exercise books;
• Active teaching (learning) methods – work groups and children‘s conversations, doing puzzles in the order, peer support;
• In order to change a situation use – general and fine motor training, visualization, evocative language, inclusion of children's experience, imaginative promotion, use of the senses, drawing, music and construction.
2. It appeared that speech therapists are most often faced with the difficulties at work like: small rooms, lack of working tools and also cooperation with colleagues and sharing experience.
3. Parents think, their child receives all the necessary assistance, basically, all the parents are satisfied with the quality of speech therapy classes, but they would prefer to have more classes.
4. Comparing parents’ and speech therapists approach, who else except speech therapists assist the children with speech and language disorders, a pattern was revealed that both, parents and speech therapists, usually take a passive means of communication, i.e. during meetings... [to full text]

Intervenção fonoaudiológica na narrativa oral de crianças com atraso no desenvolvimento da linguagem / Speech-language intervention in the oral narrative of children in late talking conditionGiulia Ganthous 10 May 2018 (has links)
Oral storytelling is a skill of great complexity as it requires preservation of linguistic and cognitive abilities. The performance in narrative task has been contributing to the identification of different clinical subgroups with language alterations, such as late talking condition. This population is characterized throughout language development by late onset or at a slow pace for new acquisitions. Narrative ability is described on children in late talking condition for shorter and less complex storytelling. However, few studies address the oral narrative of this specific population, and the influence of interventional programs. Thus, this study had the aim to compare the performance in task of oral narrative of children in late talking condition before and after being submitted to a speech-language intervention program. The participants were 10 children late talkers and 10 children with typical language development, matched for sex and chronological age. Each group consisted individuals of both sexes, with a chronological age between five and six years. Participants of both groups were evaluated before and after intervention at the macro and microstructural levels of the oral narrative using as an analytical tool: (a) narrative complexity index; (b) level of global narrative coherence; (c) construction analysis of the episodes; (d) productivity and (e) linguistic complexity of the narrative. After the evaluation, the late talkers were submitted to the speech-language intervention program of the narrative. The program was composed by three phases with distinct objectives: (a) structural elements of the narrative; (b) elaboration of the narrative; (c) storytelling independently. The program was organized in ten interventional sessions. The results allowed to conclude that late talkers showed improvement in their performance after intervention in the oral narrative in relation to those with typical development. It was observed a significant difference between the pre and post intervention performances for late talkers group in all macro and microstructural aspects (except total of C-Units). The performance of the group with typical language development was more discreet, no significant differences were found in challenges, resolution and coherence of the narrative and total words, total C-Units, mean length of utterances and complex C-Units.

Abordagem Terapêutica Miofuncional em Casos de Desvios Fonológico, Fonético e Fonético-Fonológico / Myofunctional Therapy Aprroach in Cases of Phonological, Phonetic and Phonetic/Phonological DisordersCosta, Patricia Pereira 01 March 2011 (has links)
The theme of this work is the application of myofunctional therapy in cases of phonetic, phonological and phonetic-phonological disorders. The central hypothesis of this study is that the adequacy of the stomatognathic system structures involved in the articulation of linguistic segments favor the adequacy of speech in cases of phonological, phonetic and phonetic-phonological disorders. Thus, this research aimed to determine the effects of the myofunctional therapy in cases of phonological, phonetic and phonetic-phonological, disorders. For this research, we selected subjects who were waiting in the queue service, of Service Speech Pathology, Federal University of Santa Maria, to provide speech and Orofacial the period March 2010 to August 2010. Inclusion criteria of this study were the presence of phonological, phonetic and phonetic-phonological, and sthomatognatic system disorders. It was considered as exclusion criteria the presence of malformations, genetic syndromes, suspected neurological disorders, cognitive or psychological disorders, hearing difficulties, diagnosis of language delay, speech therapy before, and malocclusion. To select the sample were performed the following procedures: medical history, assessment of the stomatognathic system, articulatory examination, otorrinological examination and hearing screening. Of 22 patients evaluated, six were in accordance with the selection criteria, two with phonological disorder, two with phonetic disorder, and two with phonetic-phonological disorder. With age between 6 and 13 years old. After the evaluations were carried out two therapys weekly, the exercises were for myofunctional adequacy of stomatognathic sistem alterations. Surveys every eight sessions of evaluating the evolution of the subjects on the stomatognathic system and speech. Based on the results of descriptive analysis was performed. After the myofunctional therapy, subjects who had phonological disorder and phonetic disorder had proper speech. One of the subjects who had phonetic-phonological disorder was not entirely proper speech. Regarding sound classes benefited, myofunctional after therapy, the appropriateness of the stomatognathic system, the liquid sounds were acquired, and fricative sounds were partially stabilized. It was concluded that the myofunctional therapy was efficient in cases of phonological, phonetic and phonetic-phonological disorders in the presence of sthomatic system disorders.

Previous issue date: 2015-04-30 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This thesis was formulated around oodles of issues that have been the subject of research in speech therapy clinic structure which were gathered in a challenge to unravel: what are the epistemological and praxis conditions to empower the symptomatology and the speech diagnostic and thus reinvent its method of treatment? To care about these questions, it was decided to return to Demosthenes and establish the formalization of different logical, ethical and rhetorical functions that were assumed in overcoming its history of his stuttering, the invention of his healing and discursive strategies applied on public speaking. Define the specific characteristics of the position occupied by Demosthenes as stuttering, as a clinician and after as a speaker, represents a strategy for research on the place of capture of the speech therapist, the subject and the social in the field of speech and language. The construction of the clinical case had as support the version told by Plutarch and the speech by Demosthenes: Prayer of the Crown (BC), which enshrines the last as the great orator of antiquity. It was necessary to return to Demosthenes because it represented the possibility of making visible the mechanisms of their treatment method for the emergence of the speech therapy clinic as we know it today, in which it follows the practical experience and the limits of clinical strategy. After followed in the case of Demosthenes and in the history of the main movements of similarities and differences of speech therapy clinic to medical clinic, to the psychological and to the psychoanalytic clinic, we proposed a model of understanding of the subject articulation and language in determining speech therapy symptoms. With this subsidy, we made up an integrative way to meet the different requirements necessary to rethink the diagnostic and the speech therapy clinic intervention in relation to other clinical cases described in the literature. To verify etiological hypotheses, diagnostic and therapeutic, was used as the basis of linguistic reasons the structural analysis of language developed by Saussure, improved by Jakobson and inserted in the design of language acquisition proposed by De Lemos, and still the theory of the subject in Lacan. Finally, we discuss the process of autonomy of the symptoms language model, and we indicate the possible directions of reinvention of diagnostic reasoning and clinical method on the relationship between subject and language / Esta tese foi formulada em torno a uma série de questões que têm sido objeto de investigação da estrutura clínica fonoaudiológica, reunidas em uma espécie de desafio a desvendar: quais são as condições epistemológicas e práxicas para autonomizar a semiologia e a diagnóstica fonoaudiológica e, consequentemente, reinventar o seu método de tratamento?

Objectives:. To analyze the association of cases of head and neck cancer and the outcome of speech rehabilitation of people with cancer of the larynx. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional, quantitative study through survey data from medical records of patients with head and neck cancer, treated from 1989 to 2015, at Hospital de Base, São José do Rio Preto / SP, from three dimensions: socio-demographic, clinical and speech rehabilitation. The first study analyzed the correlation for cancers and variables (gender, place of origin, age and education). The second study was analyzed by univariate and multivariate techniques. Qualitative data were associated by applying the Chi-Square test. The multivariate approach through the multiple correspondence analysis enabling relations between the most important variables in the study. Results: In the first study: 52.7% were male with median age of 56 years; higher prevalence from 41 years (82.2%); 64.3% were from other cities in the state of São Paulo. Tumor predominantly affecting structures of the head and neck; presented in 53.2% of the cases. In the second study, according to the speech rehabilitation, 75.49% had alterations in the neuro-vegetative system, developed speech and voice (64.22%); of these, 22.55% esophageal voice; 21.57%) development of written communication and gestural; schooling was significantly associated with the outcome of Speech Therapy (P <0.001). The gestural communication was more frequent in patients with no schooling, improvement of dysphagia in patients with primary education, improvement of dysphagia / dysphonia and voice with electrolarynx in patients with secondary education. Most of patients with T2 and T4 tumor stage improved dysphagia and dysphonia; T1 showed improvement of dysphonia and T3 had esophageal speech development. Patients treated with chemotherapy or radiation therapy, smoker or non-smoker / drinker, with primary education and T1 stage developed esophageal voice and had dysphagia / dysphonia improved. Patients who have developed voice with electrolarynx worked in commerce or in the service sectors, age group 20-59 years with high school, nodes, metastasis and stage T4. The gestural/ writing and gestural development occurred more frequently in patients who had smoking and drinking habits and stage T3. Those who showed improvement of dysphonia had association with cordectomy (60 years or older) were working in the agricultural sector or other, with no schooling or had higher education and T2 stage. Conclusion: The optimization and diversification and positive results with new therapeutic procedures used in the treatment of these patients have showed challenges to the Speech Therapists, above all, encouraging them to intervene in areas that traditionally the effectiveness of their actions was not known to be recognized as well as evaluated.

"Avaliação da voz e inteligibilidade da fala de surdos antes e depois da terapia fonoaudiológica com recurso computadorizado" / Evaluation of voice and speech intelligibility of deaf individuals before and after speech therapy utilizing computerized resources.Lopes, Daniele Cristina Jeronymo 15 September 2004 (has links)
Hearing is fundamental for the acquisition and development of speech. Nowadays, even with improved assistance to deaf people using sign language, many of them seek oral language. OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the changes in the voice and speech of deaf people after application of a therapy procedure with the support of visual feedback. METHODS: 18 deaf individuals, aged between 12 and 17, took part in this study consisting of 16 speech therapy sessions using visual support. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: The values of fundamental frequency and phonation times were found to be close to expected values for individuals with normal hearing as well as improved speech intelligibility and pitch control. These findings showed that the work with deaf people should encompass the vocal element as it provides an improvement in voice and speech.
