Religiösa normer i ett sekulariserat samhälle : Islam i Sverige

Fernholm, Erika, Izadian, Pedram January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this essay is to show how individuals with Muslim belief see their own life situations in the Swedish society. Another aim is to illustrate how these individuals reason about their life according to family, religion, honor, control and personal responsibility. In the chapter regarding previous research factors such as "Islam in Sweden" and islamophobia are illustrated to be able to further understand the informants situation and point of view in the Swedish society. The empirical material of the study has been collected by qualitative interviews with in total thirteen individuals who are active in, and frequently visit Muslim communities. The material has been collected via group-interviews. Since this study aims to illuminate the individuals own opinions, sections such as method and theory have been deeply rooted in the phenomenological perspective. The results show that informants felt excluded and that the Swedish community often misunderstod Islam as a religion. The results also indicate the obvious oppositions between "Muslim values" and Swedish secularized values. The study also confirms that these types of situations are when the informants felt the most questioned.

Ibrahim, Birhat January 2022 (has links)

Waltherová, Zuzana January 2008 (has links)
Sweden is traditionally one of the European countries with the highest number of asylum seekers. The Migration Board is the authority responsible for investigation of asylum cases. Moreover it is responsible for taking care of refugees while they await their decision. The refugees come in contact also with other actors within the Swedish society. Considering the refugees’ difficult situation, it is important that they are received in a dignified manner and met with kind treatment. Is our society good at doing so? This is the object of investigation in this study. It answers the following questions: i) What do refugees need in order to cope with all the difficulties related to being a refugee? ii) In the refugees’ own opinion, what kind of help and support does the Swedish society offer them? iii) In the refugees’ opinion, what effect do the society’s actions have? The study makes use of a theory about the refugee crisis with its development through losses in different categories. In order to answer the research questions eight asylum seekers, living in a camp in Sweden, were interviewed. The result of analyses showed that the participants’ opinions about the Swedish society were generally positive despite having mostly bad experiences with the clerks at the Migration Board. The Swedes acted, in the refugees’ opinion, as kind people, willing to help. They seemed to sympathize with refugees and understand their situation. The result of the study agrees with former research and theories about the refugee crisis. Swedish lessons were the most effective aid from the society. The residence permit was the most desired help which the refugees wanted to have from the Swedish society.

Understanding the Situation of Afro-Swedes : Inclusion and Distance of a Minority Group in Sweden

Ehrenstråhle, Ulrika January 2016 (has links)
Earlier research have portrayed Afro-Swedes’ situation in mostly negative terms and have often concentrated on just one or a few spheres of society. Success stories are overridden by examples of discrimination. This research aim to contribute to a broader picture and asks how the situation of Afro-Swedes as a minority group in the Swedish society could be understood. This qualitative desk study uses the framework from Hans-Ingvar Roth’s book Mångkulturalismens utmaningar (2005) [Challenges of Multiculturalism], to answer this questions. This research shows that Afro-Swedes experience positive and/or negative distance and/or inclusion within twelve identified spheres of society. Sometimes both positive and negative inclusion/distance is present even in the same sphere. The analysis of this research suggests that Afro-Swedes as a minority is rather distanced than included in the Swedish society, no matter if it is voluntary or not. This research do not neglect the discrimination or racism that many Afro-Swedes witness about, however, it supplements the more often negative picture presented. It does so by showing a more complex image where positive – as well as negative – elements of Afro-Swedes’ situation can be found in the Swedish society.
