Mito, lenda e história em Matrinchã do Teles Pires : a construção do terreno ficcional /

Santos, Luzia Aparecida Oliva dos. January 2002 (has links)
Abstract: The analysis exercise concerning the novel Mantrinchã do Teles Pires tends to emerge the literary aspects which constitute in the thematic construction of the myth research, in the legend recreation of the prophet João Maria and in the re-reading of historical happenings. The reading course and the sense production go through the three main elements: the mythical, the legendary and the historical, analysing them to recognize, in its interior, the coherence in the aesthetic set of procedures that assure it the fiction character. The mythical aspect retakes, in a parody way, the plot of Exodus Book and manifests in the crossing of thousands of Brazilians who left their lands and tradition to go through their dream: the promised land. The prophet legend reconstructs from versions that extend in several spaces, from Sorocaba, São Paulo, passing by Contestado conflict and recreating itself in Eleutério, the main character of the book. A hiker who assumes the messianic character after his historical idol death, Getúlio Vargas, and doubles the first monk action in the lands of Mato Grosso. The historical factor presence in the narrative fixes itself in the rescue of Vargas Era and of national expansion projects which will trigger off the migratory movement to the North of the state of Mato Grosso. For the study development of these points in the structure composition we will use specific theories and bibliographies. Afterwards, we will consider the narrative basis to the narrator constitution, the main point of this research, which works as the catalyst element between the other categories like time, space, plot and characters. All these fragments are cemented on the fictional mosaic by subtle irony and by plurality of voices which give to the work a post-modern profile. / Mestre

Listening to birth : metallurgy, maternity, and vocality in the reproduction of the patriarchal state

Dokter, Anija (Rachel) January 2018 (has links)
Listening to Birth asserts that structures of power reproduce themselves by instituting particular modes of listening and sound production. Situating my research within feminist sound studies, I argue that meanings conjured around the audible, material bodies of women were carefully crafted by elites in antiquity, in order to construct gendered ideologies of kingship, civilisation, and nature. I examine these power dynamics as expressed in mythic and magical texts and iconographies, dating from the Bronze Age to later Roman antiquity. Throughout the thesis, I examine the development of symbolic systems and narrative tropes that linked mining and metallurgy with reproduction and vocality. My analysis emphasises how the invention of nature was accomplished, in part, through a metallurgical reclassification of the voices and sexualities of women as indiscrete phenomena: womb, mouth, and voice were elided with mining and smelting to form a unified semantic realm. I argue that this invention of ‘vulvar vocality’ reclassified female sounds as illicit, providing a plaform for the removal of women from the public sphere. I attempt to connect the gendered discourse found in myths and magical rituals to the political and economic domain of state-craft, to demonstrate the importance of hegemonic mythopoeic control of audible female reproduction for establishing ideologies of colonisation and extraction. I link analyses of texts and iconographies from the Bronze Age Mesopotamians, Hittites, Canaanites, Minoans, and Egyptians to later materials from the Iron Age Greeks, Israelites, and Romans—my goal is to demonstrate both the ubiquity and the continual reproduction of metallurgical ideology across the ancient world. I also present my preliminary research into the lasting impact that antique notions of vulvar vocality had on later state-craft. I begin to trace the preservation and elaboration of antique metallurgical literature by Byzantine and Islamic scholars, who in turn exerted strong influence on the Ottomans and late medieval and early modern Europeans. I outline future work to investigate the exponential rise of entrepreneurial metallurgy in late medieval and early modern Europe, arguing that this metallurgical discourse provided symbolic re-enforcement for the rapidly-accelerating mining and metal trade that formed the core of European colonial expansion. I suggest that vulvar vocality was central to early modern metallurgical, demonological, and colonial discourse, and that specific female vocalities and silences were purposefully crafted into the colonial project in order to forcibly redefine women, along with the lands and children stolen from them, as mere natural resources.

Personne tragique-personnage tragique dans les écritures dramatiques contemporaines en France et en Grèce / Tragic person-tragic character in contemporary French and Greek dramaturgy

Bousiopoulou, Efthalia 26 October 2018 (has links)
Contemporary playwriting turns often towards the tragic Greek myth as source of inspiration. However, the concept of “the tragic” is far from being evident, sometimes understood in anexistential meaning, tightly attached to the German philosophical thought who has given it birth, sometimes in an esthetic meaning, as a result of its close relation to the genre of tragedy. Thepresent study examines the concept of tragic in contemporary plays of different origin: moreprecisely, we study twelve plays, French and Greek, that cover the second half of the twentiethcentury in the broadest sense, characterized by the use of the tragic myth or of tragic motifs. Ourapproach is based on two axes: on one hand we examine the notion of character, a fundamentalelement of a dramatic work, in his becoming tragic. In this way and according to the two phasesof what we call “the tragic movement”, the character, after passing from the identity to the alterityof self, he then “chooses” himself as a finite being, or, in other words, as a being “inscribed indeath”; finally, he arrives at the point of transcendence of his own finitude. On the other hand, weexamine the notion of the tragic person, namely the conception of the “real” human, as it isformulated on the basis of the tragic hero, by the reader/spectator. The meaning of the tragicperson lies in a passage from the ordinary world to a “new reality”, where the becoming of thehuman being and the openness to the Other dominates. In this context, the spectator experiencesthe catharsis that can be identified with the “tragic joy”.

Vývoj reprezentace Jiřího Kajínka v česképublicistice v roce 2010 / Representation of Jiri Kajinek in Czech print in 2010

Pošepná, Kateřina January 2012 (has links)
The main concern of the thesis is the ability of the media to construct the image of criminals and it is demonstrated on the case of Jiří Kajínek. Criminality is a special topic most of the population has no personal experience with, and, therefore, they have to rely completely on the information offered by media. Jiří Kajínek is the most famous czech prisoner and, in its practical part, the thesis tries to explore the way the publicistic titles presented his case to public in 2010. Most of the examined titles takes Kajínek's side and does not offer balanced information regarding the case. This partiality is reflected mainly in the way of signification associated with Kajínek, in the framing and in the form of particular articles. The thesis then observes the influence of the Kajínek movie on his media presentment and its development. It focuses at the amount of media space given as well as at the way of the representation itself. Differences in both aspects have been found in particular titles.

Goda journalister, eviga hjältar : En diskursanalys om nyhetsjournalistikens gestaltning av Kim Wall och Nils Horners eftermäle / Good journalists, eternal heroes : A discourse analysis of news journalisms portrayal of Kim Wall and Nils Horners posthumous reputation

Samuelsson, Julia, Pliscovaz, Julia January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor thesis was to examine how news journalism represented the two swedish journalists Kim Wall and Nils Horner, when describing their posthumous reputation after they were murdered during assignments. The research questions examined were: How does the journalism, in describing their posthumous reputations, portray the story of Kim Wall, and Nils Horner? What differences and similarities can be found in how they are portrayed as journalists, and as victims? We used Faircloughs critical discourse analysis (CDA) to find reoccurring discourses in the description of Horner and Wall. By examining the characteristics they were assigned and what conclusions the audience were offered to draw about their journalistic competence and about them as victims of murder, we found many similarities between Horner and Wall. They are both described as exceptionally competent. They are also portrayed as born with a “calling” towards the journalistic profession, and in both cases, they are ascribed with next to supernatural characteristics. As victims of murder we found them to be portrayed as idealistic, with some variations in relation to the description of the content of their character, and where the murder took place. Our study shows that the discourses we found contribute to the creation of heroic myths in the news journalisms description of them. They are elevated, and our conclusion is that by elevating their murdered colleagues as heroes, the news journalists are also elevating themselves and, in turn, the journalistic profession.

Justification for this topic is based on the perception that the primitive man, with his mythic thoughts, and the modern man, straight thoughts formulated, have the same collective ritual dimensional base. Ritual must be read as a group of actions defined by their symbolic importance to a specific society. The actions and symbols aren't freely chosen by individuals, they are imposed by an external source. For the primordial man, the source is the ceremonial priests. For the modern man, the source is the influence of mass media. Showing how media uses the archetypical and sacred aspect of the ritual, manipulating its core for their own needs and satisfaction: fascination, enchantment, infiltration and stereotyping. By the Cultural Semiotic prism, the thesis aspires to contribute to studies and cultural communication, aiming for the rescue of complexity in the means of communication. How primitive rituals formats still survive in modern media, albeit in a saturated way, is the question this study addresses. Adopted methodological procedure was a research of qualitative character, involving analysis and bibliographical survey. As the theorical board of references are the authors B. Cyrulink, D. Kamper, E. Morin, H. Pross, I. Bystrina, J. Hillman, K. Lorenz, M. Berman, M. S. Contrera, N. Baitello Jr., N. Sevcenko, V. Flusser, V. Romano e Z. Bauman. The conclusion is that, even if banalized and distorted, the principles of symbolic reorganization of the ritual still exert considerable influence in the media and in the mindset of the modern man / A pesquisa está dedicada ao estudo da aplicação de alguns elementos rituais pela mídia de massa, como tentativa de suprir o vazio existencial, proporcionado pelo surgimento da consciência no homem genérico.

Myth and respectability in Swedish and Dutch fascism, 1931-40

Kunkeler, Nathaniël David Benjamin January 2019 (has links)
The focus of this thesis is on the process of myth-making (mythopoeia) in the Dutch National Socialist Movement (NSB) and the Swedish National Socialist Workers' Party (NSAP), using a cultural pragmatic approach to analyse the practicalities and implementation of mythopoeia comparatively. A variety of fascist performances, scripted and unscripted, are considered as having mythopoeic potential, and understood as performative in character, i.e. constituting the thing they claimed to represent. Multiple parts of this mythopoeic process are analysed: the resources, organisation, and technologies required to implement it, and the nature of the process, the events, performances, in other words the actual implementation, and reception by audiences. Secondly, it uses respectability as a means of seeing how in a national context this process was limited, inhibited, or otherwise defined by the standards of the public and media, to which fascists ultimately tried to appeal, thus providing an external perspective on fascist activities to contextualise them. The thesis is divided into four chapters, which deal with the party apparatus, leader myth, political uniforms, and the role of aesthetics and spectacle respectively. Together these chapters explore the relationship between mythopoeia and respectability as refracted through party organisation and administration, as embodied by the 'charismatic' fascist Leader, in the day-to-day behaviour and appearance of the rank-and-file, and ultimately the holistic experience of fascist aesthetics, i.e. the fully scripted and organised spectacles of party congresses. Ultimately it is shown that the fascist movements of Sweden and the Netherlands were highly innovative organisations. Mythopoeia had a powerful mobilising capacity, which could make up for the diminutive financial power and low membership figures of fascist parties. Finally it appears that the relationship between myth and respectability was not a straightforward dialectical one, but multivalent, and highly dynamic.

Remise en cause du processus révolutionnaire et projet de renouveau dans l'oeuvre romanesque de Pepetela / Challenge of the revolutionary process and renewal project in the romantic work of Pepetela

Diallo, Oumar 24 June 2019 (has links)
As Aventuras de Ngunga, Muana Puó, A Geração da Utopia, O Desejo de Kianda et Parábola do Cágado Velho sont des romans qui mettent en lumière certaines interrogations sur l’identité angolaise / Affected by the death of the revolutionary utopia and the disappointment of the Angolan people, Pepetela’s work questions the Angolan identity: “a Angolanidade”. Through allegory, irony, humour, metonymy, parable and myth, Pepetela denounces the behaviour of the Angolan elite and reinstates certain cultural and ancestral African values long since wiped out by Portuguese colonialism. Pepetela’s work disseminates a strong critique of the post independence Angolan regime while seeking to establish links between tradition and modernity. Our work seeks to demonstrate this fictional reality, whilst giving an analysis of characters who are striving to match their ideology with the reality of the Angolan people. As Aventuras de Ngunga, Muana Puó, A Geração da Utopia, O Desejo de Kianda and Parábola do Cágado Velho are novels which bring into focus certain questions about Angolan identity.Key words: Pepeptela, Angola, revolution, utopia, identity, myth, ideology, tradition, modernity, post-independence.

Franz Baermann Steiner - Précurseur du postcolonialisme / Franz Baermann Steiner – Precursor of Post-Colonialism

Parkhurst-Atger, Isabella 11 December 2010 (has links)
Franz Baermann Steiner [1909-1952], an exile from Prague, was a German poeta doctus who taught anthropology at the Oxford Institute after the Second World War. In his oeuvre, comprising more than 9500 aphorisms, over 300 poems and also anthropological writings, he sketches a critique of eurocentrism, colonial imperialism and epistemic violence, thus anticipating postcolonial theory. The first part of our thesis analyses how an assimilated Jew from Prague developed a discourse that takes up notions developed in the writings of Aimé Césaire and Edward Said. It therefore offers a complete analysis of his background in the Habsburg Empire from a post-colonial point of view, and an evaluation of the linguistic and social politics in Bohemia and Prague during the first Czech Republic. The study focuses, on the one hand, on the hybrid and liminal character of his milieu [i.e. German Jews in Prague] as well as the decisive discursive impact of cultural Zionism and, on the other hand, on his exile in England and the influence of British Social Anthropology. These are, from our point of view, the key elements of the post-colonial discourse emerging in Steiner’s writings. Taking his aphorisms as a starting point, our study then follows up the post-colonial thought in the entire oeuvre of the poet and anthropologist, underlining the various links between poetry, religion and science which are so characteristic of his original writings. The concept of liminality is present in all his writings on a methodological level [a liminal discursive positioning within the Western academic structures and an observant position in his poetry] and it also dominates the choice of themes [slavery, taboo, Shaman poet and exile]. Although Steiner never completely abandoned the essentialist vision of culture, the notion of hybridity is an essential factor of his identity, enriching his writings immensely [e.g. problem of cultural translatability, hybrid ethnopoetics and a new hybrid Robinson figure].

Yasmina Khadra, Andreu Martín et Giorgio Todde : la méditerranée se colore de noir ou le renouvellement du roman policier / Yasmina Khadra, Andreu Martín and Giorgio Todde : mediterranean hard boiled or renewing the detective novel

Canu, Claudia 30 April 2011 (has links)
This doctorial dissertation encompasses a comparative study of three contemporary authors: Andreu Martín, Yasmina Khadra and Giorgio Todde. Although the three writers differ in their nationality, language and writing style, they have all selected the detective novel and more particularly hardboiled fiction as their genre of choice. The body of this study focuses on the works created between 1980 and 2010. Through the analysis of these novels several revealing commonalities and differences have been discovered about a possible “Mediterranean culture”. Whether it be Spain, Algeria or Italy, the Mediterranean emerges then not only as a shared geographical space, but also as a meeting point between these diverse cultures. The principal objectives of this study are to place the specific tools and aspects of the detective novel within the theoretical domain of “modernity”, and an analysis of the significant articulations made by these three authors such as: their use of History, their representation of “the individual” versus “the collective”, and the relationship between History, myth, and truth in their novels. The particularities of all three novelists and the insertion of their literary production within the specific geographical environment of their country of origin constitute the focal point and principal axis of research of this dissertation. However, an open perspective has lead to the analysis of various concepts which particularly develop an understanding of that focal point. Among them the Mediterranean as a geographical, historical and cultural space shared by many; the concept of insularity as a double condition, as in a condition that is at the same time geographical and emotional; and the concept of a “Mediterranean hardboiled” fiction have revealed themselves as the most significant.
