From the earliest times human uses technology and social relations to evolve. And in contemporary times, it is no different. Society is faced with major global and climatic challenges that impact the planet and all the life that inhabits it. In parallel, the feminization of the world and the technological and digital revolution brings great transformations in relations: it promotes an increasingly hyperconnected and collaborative society. At the confluence of these two global trends a new ecology urge. In this context, companies are understood as part of the ecosystem and allied in the plan to protect the planet. The purpose of this paper is to present the study in which it was sought to identify how the top female management perceives digital social networks and integrates them into strategies. It is assumed, therefore, that the contemporary network society demands a new management ability, in order to continue to create value in a sustainable way. The approach thinks of business strategy as part of a complex system, that new technologies change the living conditions, and digital social networks are part of this complex architecture. In addition, this approach aims to discuss the maturity required for the sustainability of business strategies, to identify the role of business management, and also how the feminine inserts in this context. For this purpose, a qualitative study of Multi-Case Analysis was carried out, using documentary analysis, preliminary analysis of networks and interviews with the top female management (among directors, presidents and chairman) of eight companies from different sectors (retail, technology, industry, communication), national and multinational companies operating in Brazil. It can be said that in today's vision of top female management, a transformational business leadership that considers technological change and a holistic vision of the future is necessary to outline strategies that will make the company perennial. And with this, it was concluded, based on this study, that, for the context of Brazil, the feminization of business management and a vision of new network ecology being transformed into a sustainable strategy.

An analysis of the economic circumstances of criminal practice in the State of Paraná: the case study in the Central, Feminine, and State Penitentiary, Piraquara.

In this research, the hypothesis that the criminals migration to illegal activities was in the hope of earning more than the risks of the activity was not rejected. The option for the practice of crime of economic nature is a rational and individual one, with or without the influence of others, in face of the perception of costs and benefits such as those made by individuals in relation to others decisions of economic nature. The offenders make individual decisions when the results of criminal action fulfill their interest well or better than the collective action. The relation crime-unemployment did not prove to be so strong in this research, since the majority of the respondents were working when the practice of crime happened. The association of criminality with low level of education was confirmed; the majority of respondents have got only Educação Fundamental (first to four grades), what suggests that high levels of education and better jobs (well payment) can restrict or to retrain the criminality. We observed that more audacious criminal practices besides high levels of organization and planning are essential requisites to these tasks. The principal crime realized were: robbery deal in drugs, fraud, armed-robbery, abduction and extortion that the majority were realized by white young men from the State of Paraná, member of a religious community and having a family. The choice of the type of crime to be realized and the victims, was determined in function of material interest and possible earnings. The main personal motivation to act illegally vis-à-vis to legal was: the induction of friends, the greediness, to maintain the vice, the inconsequence and the wish of adventure, the difficult of money and the idea of easy earnings. The main factors of failure were: the informer, the police's action and their own failure; though, the failure do not refer to the punishment, but to the economic gains not reached. The research revealed that for most of respondents the illegal activity results in some degree of success and for a significant number the economic return was the expected, what justify the great number of relapsing. Finally, for the majority of them the Justice System was considered as insufficient to impede the criminal activity.

Les têtes d’expression du peintre Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725-1805) / The expressive heads of Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725-1805)

Jackall, Yuriko 24 June 2014 (has links)
The thesis examines the painter Jean-Baptiste Greuze’s expressive heads. It argues that the artist, frequently described both as a « painter of nature » and a « painter of expression », found himself expected to reconcile the ephemeral and tangible characteristics expected of genre painting and portraits with the more temporal ones implied by the rendering of expression, a major element in the construction of narrative in academic painting and theory. In response to the inherent tension amongst the identities variously foisted upon him, Greuze concentrated increasingly upon the isolated the human face. Initially, he did this by consistently drawing attention to the protagonists in his multi-figural paintings; later, he went as far as to create small-scale painted depictions of individual heads. Greuze evidently sought to confer these latter works with an independent status and identity, reinforcing their material qualities through his choice of technique and support as well as through the replication and repetition of motifs from one painting to the next. As a result, his isolated heads become shorthand allusions that recall and engage overarching themes throughout his oeuvre. The artist’s female heads, one of the least understood and most denigrated aspects of his production, are of particular interest. The softer emotions that they evoke seem designed to appeal to the spectator’s imagination. Accordingly, it is here that Greuze's artistic experimentation within his head studies comes entirely to the fore. Finally, the thesis examines Greuze’s continuing influence into the early nineteenth century and argues for his role in the creation of a wide-reaching vogue for isolated heads and, on a more fundamental level, his lasting impact on shaping a changing discourse around the notion of expression.

Patriarchy and Masculinity in Doris Lessing's The Fifth Child and in Ben in the World

Sundberg, Björn January 2011 (has links)
The English novelist, Doris Lessing elucidates the rigidity of a society, which is based upon patriarchy, in her novels, The Fifth Child and Ben in the World. This essay illustrates the causes and the effects of a patriarchal system in the light of feminist ideology supported by Freud’s theories about the acquisition of gender roles. The analysis in this essay of patriarchy and masculinity shows that the novels’ societies as a whole, as well as their criminal subcultures are upheld by people who hold prejudice against others, who do not fit in society’s normal structures, believe in authoritarian social systems and prefer rational solutions to decisions for reasons of conscience. Lessing depicts the complexity of the social relations between characters of different social classes and their relations to society’s institutions. Her unprejudiced penetration into the minds of society’s marginalized people and into the minds of those who represent the oppressive established society illuminates different sides of patriarchy. Lessing gives us to understand that it is extremely difficult, from a moral point of view, to distinguish the established society from its criminal subcultures or society’s oppressors from its victims. Society’s accepted gender roles in the patriarchal system are often ironically described in these novels, certainly with the aim of making us question normative manners, habits and attitudes.

A Sociolinguistic Comparison of the French and Anglo-Saxon Cultures : from codeswitched substantives to borrowings : the issue of grammatical gender / Comparaison sociolinguistique des cultures française et anglo-saxonne : des substantifs issus de l’alternance codique aux emprunts : la question du genre grammatical

Martin, Élodie 16 November 2017 (has links)
Grammatical gender attribution is quite a difficult notion to logically explain in French, due to the fact that it is, most of the time, arbitrary. This PhD thesis aims to theorise the grammatical gender allocated to codeswitched and borrowed substantives from English to French. Codeswitching and borrowing being generally considered as two distinct linguistic phenomena, since the former is an individual phenomenon, while the latter is a collective phenomenon, the second objective of this thesis is to demonstrate the existence of a codeswitching – borrowing continuum. Throughout three chapters, key concepts are firstly presented to lay the foundation of the thesis. Then, the main notions characterising codeswitching and borrowing are detailed – which naturally opposes these two linguistic devices – in order to eventually analyse them as a continuum, when hypothesising grammatical gender attribution. The last chapter devoted to case studies, and more precisely to the analysis of four different corpora, confirms the hypotheses exposed in the two previous chapters, and enables to classify them into five categories to explain grammatical gender attribution. These categories represent extralinguistic, interlinguistic, metalinguistic, both interlinguistic and metalinguistic, and grammatical reasons. Results on the percentages of feminine and masculine substantives, as well as the reasons explaining the grammatical gender allocated to codeswitched substantives, optional borrowings, and compulsory borrowings are displayed through graphs so that their interpretation is clearer, more objective, and more scientific. Additionally, the existence of a codeswitching – borrowing continuum is therefore demonstrated through the explanation of grammatical gender attribution, linking codeswitching with optional borrowing, as well as through the process of lexicalisation, in which codeswitching is the starting point of the chain, leading to optional borrowing. As for compulsory borrowing, connecting it with codeswitching is not that obvious considering that they do not share common features compared with optional borrowing.

[en] THE HOME AND ITS MASTERS: EDUCATION AT HOME AS A PRACTICE OF THE ELITES IN BRAZIL IN THE 19TH CENTURY / [pt] A CASA E OS SEUS MESTRES: A EDUCAÇÃO DOMÉSTICA COMO UMA PRÁTICA DAS ELITES NO BRASIL DE OITOCENTOS

MARIA CELI CHAVES VASCONCELOS 09 March 2004 (has links)
[en] Education at home was a significant educational practice held at the Brazilian Homes in the 18th Century, which, in some moments, represented the largest share of education imparted to the young and to the children, at that time and situation. Held over by masters, who assumed the position of teachers and tutors private, or even by members of the family or priests, it was a constant practice in education all over the Imperial period in Brazil, having as its model the education imparted to princes and the nobility, and as its main feature the European influence. The thesis proposes studying the characteristics of this practice and of the circumstances in which it happened at the House, as well as the relationships established among it, the private schools and the emerging state schools, in a daily life involving the different means of education conceived as methods to educate boys and girls in the 18th Century. The research is based on several kinds of documental sources, mainly from periodicals of the time, which show clearly how the educational practices held at Home were planned and how the masters, the agents and the ones in charge of the education of the children of the elite in Brazil of the Eighteen Hundreds were inscribed in the period.

Gnosticism, Transformation, and the Role of the Feminine in the Gnostic Mass of the Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica (E.G.C.)

Randolph, Ellen P. 13 November 2014 (has links)
The Gnostic Mass of the Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica (E.G.C.) suggests a heterosexual gender binary in which the female Priestess seated on the altar as the sexual and fertile image of the divine feminine is directed by the male Priest’s activity, desire and speech. The apparent contradiction between the empowered individual and the polarized gender role was examined by comparing the ritual symbolism of the feminine with the interpretations of four Priestesses and three Priests (three pairs plus one). Findings suggest that the Priestess’ role in the Gnostic Mass is associated with channeling, receptivity, womb, cup, and fertility, while the Priest’s role is associated with enthusiasm, activity, phallus, lance, and virility. Despite this strong gender duality, the Priestesses asserted that their role was personally and spiritually empowering, and they maintained heterosexual and polarized gendered roles are necessary in a transformative ritual which ultimately reveals the godlike unified individual.

La quête d’individualisation du personnage féminin : les Jolies Choses de Virginies Despentes : amor, curiosidad, prozac y dudas de Lucía Etxebarria : surtout ne te retourne pas et Cette Fille-là de Maïssa Bey / The quest for the individuation of female character : les Jolies choses, Virginie Despentes : amour, Prozac et autres curiosités, Lucía Etxebarria : cette fille-là and Surtout ne te retourne pas, Maïssa Bey

Gambus, Aurélie 17 December 2009 (has links)
In our early 21th century, an increasingly number of writers gets a real enthusiasm for woman-related themes. More precisely, their purpose is to underline the identity quest of women in our society. This kind of literature uncovers a constant involvement of body and sexuality closely linked to society and to cultural schemes that society imposes - thus leading these authors to hold an innovative discourse about women. Our research aims to show how a literary discourse, drawing from actual sociocultural, feminist and psychoanalytic discourses, conceives the Woman issue and which representation of woman it can create. At the hands of this reflection about the Woman issue and her identity, the study focuses on three female authors’ novels, Virginie Despentes, a french writer, Lucia Extebarría, a spanish writer and Maïssa Bey, an algerian French-speaking writer. The woman being is portrayed in her relations with male violence but also with her own violence linked to her relation to body and sexuality, and through human struggles and a social and cultural alienation. The female character is lonely, confined to an identity in which she does not recognize herself anymore and that she rejects. The quest for self-knowledge and for self-recognition lets its longings emerge, in contradiction with their remit. In the end of each novel, woman’s individualization is imaged through a takeover of speech. Self-reconstruction can only be possible thanks to a control of speech about oneself and the individuation quest has to keep going

Acculturation and Sociocultural Influences as Predictors of Family Relationships and Body Image Dissatisfaction in African American, Hispanic American, and European American Women

Garcia-Rea, Elizabeth Ann 12 1900 (has links)
Ethnic differences in etiological factors linked to body image dissatisfaction and eating disorders were examined. In addition, the interaction of acculturation and body image dissatisfaction in influencing minority women's relationships with their parents was investigated. Participants consisted of 302 undergraduates from three ethnic groups: Caucasian, Hispanic American, and African American women who were administered self-report measures. Differences were not found between the groups in body image dissatisfaction. Low self-esteem, internalization of the thin ideal, and family emphasis on weight and appearance were all related to more body image dissatisfaction for each of these groups; however, differences in degree of endorsement were also noted between the ethnic groups on these factors. Based on the interaction findings (body image x acculturation) separation from one's mother was found in the area of attitudes and emotions for the Hispanic sample but not for the African American sample on any of the parent scales. Areas for future research and implications for diagnosis and treatment of minority populations are also discussed.

Femmes invisibles. Vivian Maier, Francesca Woodman / Invisible Women. The art of disappearing in the feminine photographic self-portrait. Vivian Maier, Francesca Woodman

Grébert, Marion 09 December 2019 (has links)
Drawing from the photographic self-portraits of Vivian Maier (1926-2009) and Francesca Woodman (1958-1981), this thesis argues that feminine figuration conveys an art of disappearing. Establishing that this art is, to a certain extent, at work across the iconography of the feminine, we are showing that it was brought to light within a specific context: the emancipation of women since the end of the 18th century, the invention of photography in the 19th century and the contemporary ecological crisis. Indeed, a poetic ecology emerges through the works of Vivian Maier and Francesca Woodman in particular, and the feminine photographic self-portrait as a whole, determined by the photographic technique and modern changes in women’s lives, where the destiny of feminine figuration in art history converges with the possible destiny of our species. From these self-portraits, this thesis offers to draw a new way of inhabiting the world in this historic moment of transition with regard to gender and nature.
