Superconformal indices, dualities and integrabilityGahramanov, Ilmar 29 July 2016 (has links)
In this thesis we discuss exact, non-perturbative results achieved using superconformal index technique in supersymmetric gauge theories with four supercharges (which is N = 1 supersymmetry in four dimensions and N = 2 supersymmetry in three). We use the superconformal index technique to test several duality conjectures for supersymmetric gauge theories. We perform tests of three-dimensional mirror symmetry and Seiberg-like dualities. The purpose of this thesis is to present recent progress in non-perturbative supersymmetric gauge theories in relation to mathematical physics. In particular, we discuss some interesting integral identities satisfied by basic and elliptic hypergeometric functions and their relation to supersymmetric dualities in three and four dimensions. Methods of exact computations in supersymmetric theories are also applicable to integrable statistical models, which we discuss in the last chapter of the thesis.

Films from Russian director Andrei Tarkovski often present mirors in various situations. One of his films is even named "The mirror". The reflection process starts from a simple mirror up to many levels of abstraction and transformation. Beyond mirrors as mere objects, or simple metaphors, the tarkovskian concept of "construction-machine" of cinema (i.e. the cinematographe) is described. Additionnal theoretical elements of my work are based on Andrei Tarkovskies films and many writings; they will coincide with the film theory of French philosopher Gilles Deleuze. Another part of this work deals with the staged version of "Hoffmanniana" (script by Tarkovski, the film was was never shot) tha I directed: The poetic scenario is seen through Andrei Tarkovskies other films, considered as "film material2 and analysed in terms of visual and musical elements.

Dom Sebastião antes do sebastianismo: pensamento político português humanista no De Regis Institutione et Disciplina de Jeronimo Osório / Dom Sebastião before of the Sebastianismo: political thought portuguese humanist in De Regis Institutione et Disciplina de Jeronimo OsórioSantos, Yona dos 03 March 2009 (has links)
Based in a work written in 1572, the De Regis Institutione et Disciplina, and in a historic and politic context that is decisive to the Avis Dynasty, we refer here to the second period of the 16th century. This works objective is to plan the humanist political thought of Jeronimo Osório. By the purpose that the historic facts will not be just an illustration, but a meeting with political ideas, first of all we will discuss about how Osório thought about some point that determined the reign of Dom Sebastião, as for example, the battle in Alcácer Quibir, the need of the kings marriage and his education, which the priest Gonçalvez da Câmara was responsible. Secondly, we will plan his political though, talking about themes like the kings function and the best governing form and the actions of the kings adulators. In the pedagogy and political relation, we will plan the Christian princes model, concerning the princes mirror, by subjects which were necessary to the kings education.

Previous issue date: 2015-03-13 / Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian / In this work, we will start from the imitation theories of the nineteenth-century French
sociologist Gabriel Tarde, and the revision of these theories by the Italian philosopher
Maurizio Lazzarato. These authors will allow us to think the contemporary processes of
subjectivity, in which appears a specific dynamic between imitation and invention on
individual life and that, in turn, go hand in hand with neoliberal capitalism dynamics and its
incessant deterritorializations. Today, contemporary individuals quickly mobilize their
imitations and inventions, their opinions replicate on a large scale and they are driven by the
belief in the possibility of interfering, divert, sculpting, modeling and even reverse the
direction of their own lives. Imitation and invention can be seen as tools of social
construction. Furthermore, in the case of virality and contagion of ideas through social
networking on the Internet or analog networks of consumption and influence, a bestial force
of imitation is set up that seeks a global spread, a force whose power is extra-individual and
allows us to consider subjects beyond self-contained units. To think this theme, we will
establish our research in dialogue with other authors and examples from contemporary art to
internet examples and, between chapters of the work, we will propose small textual shortcircuits
that break the linearity of reasoning. These short-circuits can, in some cases,
challenge the conventions of academic text, but they are mainly an experiment on the
relationship between invention and imitation in the creation of my own voice / Neste trabalho, partimos das teorias da imitação do sociólogo francês do século XIX Gabriel
linearidade do raciocínio.

Within the framework of the research on inertial confinement fusion, the “Commissariat à l’énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives” has studied and implemented an absolute calibrated time-Resolved broadband soft x-Ray spectrometer, called “Diagnostic de Mesure du rayonnement X”. This diagnostic, composed of 20 measurement channels, measures the emitted radiant power from a laser created plasma in the range from 50 eV to 20 keV. We have developed additional measurement channels to obtain redundancy and an improvement in measurement accuracy. The principle of these new channels is based on an original concept to obtain spectral bounded flat-Responses. Two channels have been developed for the 2 – 4 keV and 4 – 6 keV spectral ranges, using aperiodic multilayer mirrors made at the “Laboratoire Charles Fabry” with Cr/Sc and Ni/W/SiC/W layers respectively. These mirrors were characterized at synchrotron radiation facilities and integrated into the spectrometer. The two new channels were used during laser-Plasma experimental campaigns at the OMEGA laser facility in Rochester (USA). This allowed us to determine directly the radiant power with only one measurement within a certain spectral band, and with a better precision when compared with using standard channels. The results, in good agreement with the standard measurement channels, allowed us to validate the use of aperiodic multilayer mirrors for X-Ray broadband spectrometry.

Les Eschés amoureux en vers / Fictionalizing knowledge at the end of the XIVth century. Les Eschés amoureux in verseMussou, Amandine 23 June 2012 (has links)
The Eschés amoureux, a thirty thousand verse allegorical poem written circa 1370-1380, comes as a response to the Romance of the Rose, notably playing the initial plot on a chessboard. The text can be read in two incomplete manuscripts and is still mostly unedited. It was quickly outshone by its prose commentary, Le Livre des eschez amoureux moralisés, written by Évrart de Conty, King Charles V’s personal physician. The fact that the Eschés amoureux was recently attributed to this very same author pushes the initial poem to the rank of a work that requires (self-)commentaries; the outline of this self exegesis is to be found in one of the verse manuscripts, which comes with latin marginal glosses of major and auctorial importance. The Eschés amoureux connects a narrative project to the transmission of knowledge, inserting within the poem two translations of auctoritates, the ovidian Remedia amoris and the De regimine principum by Giles of Rome. It provides a peculiar fictionalization of knowledge, often setting aside the authoritative part of the discourse and keeping it for a forthcoming commentary. The present dissertation intends to analyze the ways knowledge was conveyed through narrative at the end of the XIVth century; it considers the models involved for this specific text, the miscellaneous items brought together in one single fiction and the part played by the commentary.

The arithmetic geometry of mirror symmetry and the conifold transitionYang, Wenzhe January 2018 (has links)
The central theme of this thesis is the application of mirror symmetry to the study of the arithmetic geometry of Calabi-Yau threefolds. It formulates a conjecture about the properties of the limit mixed Hodge structure at the large complex structure limit of an arbitrary mirror threefold, which is supported by a two-parameter example of a self-mirror Calabi-Yau threefold. It further studies the connections between this conjecture with Voevodsky's mixed motives. This thesis also studies the connections between the conifold transition and Beilinson's conjecture on the values of the L-functions at integral points. It carefully studies the arithmetic geometry of the conifold in the mirror family of the quintic Calabi-Yau threefold and its L-function, which is shown to provide a very interesting example to Beilinson's conjecture.

La notion d’adab chez Ibn Qutayba : étude générique et éclairage comparatiste / The Work of Ibn Qutayba and the concept of Adab : a Generic Study and Comparatist PerspectiveGuellati, Amel 30 January 2010 (has links)
The objectives of this thesis were twofold : the first was to restore to the work of Ibn Qutayba its overall coherence ; with this primary objective in view, it was necessary to elucidate its literary context : adab literature. The analysis is conducted firstly in terms of the author-function both in the 'Uyûn al-Akhbâr and in texts similar to it, and secondly in terms of the rhetorical function wich allies it with the Medieval exempla collections of the Western tradition. Drawing on rhetorical and stylistic analysis of the Prologue of the 'Uyûn al-Akhbâr, as well as on a transversal reading of the introductions to the three primary adab works : the Adab al-Kâtib, the 'Uyûn al-Akhbâr and the Ma'ârif of Ibn Qutayba, it was possible to confront the original with critical interpretations of the work. Annotated translations of the introductions to two of these three sister works (the 'Uyûn al-Akhbâr and the Ma'ârif) accompany this study.

Sistema de apoio a reablilitação neuromotora: modelo de acompanhamento remoto para a terapia do espelho / Support system for neuromotor rehabilitation: remote monitoring model for mirror therapyRodolfo Dias Correia 23 September 2015 (has links)
The mirror therapy technique used in the treatment of patients in neurological rehabilitation has shown good results in a relatively low cost. In this therapy, a mirror is placed along the median sagittal plane of the patient between the two limbs, higher or lower, in order to transmit visual stimuli to the brain to induce the illusion of the limbs are moving synchronously. Considering the simplicity, the results obtained and the low cost of mirror therapy in this work we explore resources available on mobile devices like tablet and smartphones to propose a remote monitoring model based on recording and sharing videos of mirror therapy sessions considering two types of users: therapists and patients. The model is presented as a prototype of a remote monitoring system of patients that use mirror therapy in their rehabilitation. Experts evaluated that the system presents great potential to aid in the rehabilitation of the upper limbs and may be used by any patient due to its ease of use. Among the future work made possible by the current version of the system are the patients tests verifying the implications of the system in the therapy.
