Ombyggnad av Spånga station : En väg för mer attraktiva resor / Reconstruction of Spånga station : Towards an more attractive journey

Bitén, Nicole, Ahmed, Faryal January 2015 (has links)
With an entirety of 6000 travelers per day Spånga station is one the most frequented stations. The commuter station underwent its latest reconstruction 2004 where only half the station was rebuilt. The adjustments made where not thorough, subsequently dividing the station into two parts from different time periods. This has caused problems with the station floor plans and architectural design. The current floor plans encourage queues and congestion at rush hour in several parts of the station. The cause for this is the placement of the stairs since their location results in the orientation of the building. The project conducted a study which revealed that the main problems arise during rush hour, which is 06: 00-08: 00 for departures to Stockholm Central Station and 16:00-18:00 for arrivals from Stockholm Central Station. The purpose of the project was to create floor plans that provided a more flexible flow pattern for all passengers. The stations exterior design would be formed more welcoming for the travelers. The project is based on answering the question: Is it possible to perform a reconstruction that eliminates the most prominent problems? The station would also be designed so that it became more welcoming to visitors and passersby. The main limitations of this project were the platform predetermined width. The work was also limited to the architectural restrictions of the reconstruction. The aim is to contribute floor plans that provide better arrangements by studies made during the project. Furthermore, the exterior design is meant provide an aesthetically cohesive building. AutoCAD was used to obtain primary drawings and Revit Architecture 2015 to finalize the draft documents. The station's exterior shape is linked together with a glass section that delivers more sunlight into the station. The station has been expanded with two larger waiting rooms providing a more spacious feeling. Draft documents show that the new floorplan has eliminated practically all the problem areas. All the faults with the station could not be abolished for various reasons but mainly due to the restrictions placed by the platforms size. The concept drawings for the new station show that there is a more distinct connection through the stations exterior. The glass section extends around the entire building which creates a link to the remaining parts of the station whilst providing an agreeable view for by-passers and travelers

The Dissolving Form : A new central station for Linkoping, Sweden / Den upplösande formen : En ny centralstation för Linköping, Sverige

Holmgren, Marcus January 2013 (has links)
The human brain is always searching for recognizable shapes, it is natural for us to always look for connections and try to get an overall sense of things and situations. But what if the form dissolves itself and instead creates a range between the more clear and intense to the blurred and defocused.By using an entanglement of lines that further out from the inner centre reduces its intensity, it will create an effect of a weak, unsettled edge that is hard to read. My project investigates this phenomena and how a mass of single components merge into a singular whole permeable structure that absorbs the program of the transit centre.By using the technique of this complex nested hierarchy of components will I create a variation of areas and nested pochés. These areas will work as the different climate zones that a transit station requires.

Elin, Sjödahl January 2022 (has links)
Along the northern coast of the Bothnian Gulf between Umeå and Luleå live 65 percent of northern Norrland's population, yet there is no coastal railway that connects these cities with each other. In 2010, Botniabanan was completed, partially a new coastal railway between the cities of Sundsvall and Umeå. This was the first railway construction in Norrland in 80 years. Now it's time again, 2018 started the first construction phase of the Norrbotniabanan from Umeå in direction towards the city of Luleå. When the railway is completed, the line will pass through places that have not previously had a railway connection, including the small town Robertsfors. Robertsfors, with its strategic location between Umeå and Skellefteå, has a unique opportunity to expand its local labor market and increase its population when the railway arrives and shortens the time distance to Umeå and Skellefteå. This essay addresses how Robertsfors may change and develop with the establishment of a train station inside Robertsfors' central town. The result is based on assumptions by politicians and officials in the municipality and addresses issues such as work commuting and what makes Robertsfors attractive. The results show that the establishment of the railway raises hopes for an increase in population and has much to do with the increased freedom of movement and proximity to a larger labor market. However, there are also major challenges such as investment opportunities and accessibility to labor resources. Changes in Skellefteå and Umeå with increased housing prices and a shortage of housing and building land also open up opportunities for Robertsfors municipality as people can be expected to apply for housing in Robertsfors but work in Umeå or Skellefteå and commute to work by train.

Mongrel Geometries : Train Station in Torregaveta, a new INFRASTRUCTURAL plaza

Profeta, Daniele January 2011 (has links)
The thesis project wants to research the concept of Mongrel Geometries, the development of a spatial system that considering the processes of Form Finding as a design tool and their tight relationship with the model of efficiency and structural optimization, start questioning their problem/solving based procedure with the purpose of understanding which are the potentials of these methods to introduce within the built environment new atmospheric and programmatic qualities. / The intervention consists in the re-design of the Train Station and of the incorporated Bus Terminal, resolving the general connective tissue, and stimulating the public activity towards the sea side. The Terminal wants to be intended not only as a place of departure but also as an attractive place itself.

”VART ÄR VI PÅ VÄG?” / WHERE ARE WE GOING?

Grundmark, Anna January 2019 (has links)
In the middle of the nineteenth century, the train came to Sweden. It has been just over 150 years and a lot has happened. With the train and its station came more then just a means of transportation, it turned Sweden from a developing country into one of the most modern. In the small Swedish cities and on the countryside, the stations became a central node, a meeting point and a place to gather. The train passed through previously isolated areas where the stations became not only just that but also a window towards the rest of the world. This project is a study of the Swedish train station and a humble proposal on how to treat them, what to do with them and when to do it (now).

Displaying Stockholm Östra, An Adaptive Reuse Project of Transforming a Train Station into an Exhibition Space.

Israelsson, Victoria January 2023 (has links)
This thesis project is a case study of how to work with the built environment. It is a case study investigating the themes of renovation, transformation and adaptive reuse. By gathering historical research through archives, fieldwork on site and interviews I have developed one method of working with this existing building. This transformation project is a design proposal of an existing train station building that is threatened to be overturned and no longer serve its primary function as a train station. In this design proposal the existing train station will be transformed into an exhibition space for KTH.

A Train Station for Downtown Blacksburg, Virginia: An Analysis of Blacksburg's Urban Condition and the Insertion of a New Defining Landmark

Tsonas, Olivia Nicole 17 September 2010 (has links)
Downtown Blacksburg, Virginia, is defined by the presence of the townâ s original sixteen blocks, situated in a four x four square gridded arrangement. The edges of the downtown area are loosely bounded by unique natural and architectural markers and by rules for urban development that contribute to the architectural vernacular of the town. Public spaces are activated by the company of these markers, and sometimes by the repudiation of the urban rules, and thus a secondary reading of public occupation within the downtown sphere manifests itself. This thesis project attempts to identify and analyze the rules and characteristics of Blacksburgâ s urbanity and to project those rules into a new feature of the downtown foursquare grid. A train station that occupies the vicinity of the historic â Huckleberryâ rail line characterizes, defines, and augments the public regions of downtown Blacksburg. / Master of Architecture

A Gateway to the City

Baron, Peter Arthur 09 September 2015 (has links)
Through this thesis I explore how a train station can serve as the platform for an experience that is more profound than simply coming and going, and instead can provide a moment that allows travelers to appreciate the location that they are traveling to or from. A train station is almost uniquely positioned to serve as the first or last building any train traveler encounters in a city, serving as the gateway to the modern city. This presents an opportunity where the station itself will have a direct influence on a traveler's initial or final experience of the city. And so, I propose a station that, through its architecture and relationship to the site, provides the traveler a space where they can stop, look, and take in the view of the city from which they are about to depart or at which they are just now arriving. It allows those new to the city to get an understanding of the basic urban layout and its relationship to its surroundings. It becomes a destination in itself, that allows the local population to regain knowledge of their city and to reinterpret what they already know about their home. / Master of Architecture
