Previous issue date: 2014-12-18 / Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo / The main objective of this thesis is the analysis of O Cheiro do Ralo (2002), the debut novel by the cartoonist Lourenço Mutarelli. The purpose is to understand the underground language in the hybrid structure within the form of the romance genre. We have made a discursive structural comparison between O Cheiro do Ralo and Rabelais's work, Gargantua (1985) and O terceiro livro dos fatos e ditos heróicos do bom Pantagruel (2006). We associate the marginal language represented by Mutarelli with the works of artists such as Renoir, Munch and Bosch, besides the musical art. All of them are understood as reading devices of the novel, and support the references or the appropriations made by the author in the process of framing the narrative. The contamination of these languages one each other is made by the voice of the implicit narrator. In addition, the selected theories of Bakhtin about plurilingualism and skaz support the research from the social discourse standpoint, and the critical work of Will Eisner (2010; 2013) sustains the entry of the author's voice through the current artwork, mainly, in the language of the graphic novel. It is the entrance of the language of comics, which allows the introduction of these artistic languages contained within the production of Mutarelli before his debut novel. The hypotheses assert that O Cheiro do Ralo is located at the threshold of the novel and the graphic novel, by transiting between the two genres without fixating on any of them. Whereas the underground language differs from the marginal language through certain artistic procedures, and through the recycling of other languages, such as the grotesque and the language of the streets. It is concluded that O Cheiro do Ralo stands as a mediating work of inclusion of the underground literature supported by the marginal one, which is, in turn, evidenced by the artistic imaginary. The cartoonist converges toward to the contemporary scripture in an original language that tells and shows as image and social voice in the Underground Literature / novela inaugural do cartunista Lourenço Mutarelli.

Todavia, não trataremos do underground como um todo e delimitamos nosso corpus aos filmes: War Is Menstrual Envy (1992); A Bitter Message of Hopeless Grief (1988); Dead Man II: Return of the Dead Man (1994); The Loneliest Little Boy in the World (2000) e Extase de Chair Brisée (2005). / The theme of this thesis is the extreme image in underground cinema. However, we shall not deal with the underground as a whole, for we are delimiting our corpus to the following movies: War Is Menstrual Envy (1992); A Bitter Message of Hopeless Grief (1988); Dead Man II: Return of the Dead Man (1994); The Loneliest Little Boy in the World (2000), and Extase de Chair Brisée (2005). We understand that our problem may be summarized with this question: how is the extreme present in underground cinema? Looking for an answer for this question, and pointing to which elements of this extreme image are lasting in these objects, we articulate our methodological proposal in three axes: escavation, as in Jusi Parikka (2012), to find the objects and information about them; Henri Bergson's (2006) intuitive method, seeking to outline the virtual and actual of the research; cartography as proposed by Suzana Kilpp (2015), and Massimo Canevacci (1997), forming two constellations where they the audiovisual aspects of our objects are analyzed. As a way to plunge theoretically in what we propose as extreme images, we approach the work of French theoretician, Georges Bataille (1929), and also of commentator authors such as Georges Didi-Huberman (2015), Benjamin Noys (2000), and Eliane Robert Moraes (2002). Our theoretical basis connected to audiovisual and cinema starts with the conception of audiovisual as a corporeal and visceral experience, as presented by Jusi Parikka (2012), Thomas Elsaesser (2010), Laura Wilson (2015), and Jack Sargeant (2015). For our final considerations, we are pointing towards a constitution of such extreme images in virtual disfiguration and beastlike potentials, which constitute, each one with its own particularities, an extreme image both in visual and audible aspects.

The Influence Of Design Considerations Of Metro Stations In The Context Of City Identity: The Case Of Ankaray And Ankara MetroGunes, Serkan 01 April 2007 (has links) (PDF)
The theoretical structure of the study is composed of understanding the life cycle of metro system classified in three evolutionary phases. These process definitions respectively start with demand related to metro, continue with the acceptance of metro as the preferential alternative by inhabitants and end with the subway that embedded as an important reason that build city identity. Phases will be studied through its motives and will be analyzed
through physical design considerations. The reason of the prevision is stemmed from the hypothetical approach which is stated as the influences of the design considerations of metro utilities are highly related on its life cycle and in forming local identity. The test of the hypothesis will be handled in two
methods. The first will be a survey study which will include checklist to portraiture demand and course of the system in first two stages. At the preliminary stage, the topics of underground, underground use and the history of railway and urban railway network in world and Turkey are discussed to get a better and more comprehensive understanding of metro.
Next method is designed to cross-examine design considerations and local identity by value judgment analysis for the last stage. In this phase, validity of the hypothesis will be audited by correspondence analysis. Value judgments
depended assertion and expression of values which reached by
correspondence analysis and Bertin Graphs, are accepted as the determinations that addresses the relationship between physical structure and local identity. The evaluation of the metro&rsquo / s physical qualifications during its life cycle, which can be noted under several headings and the relationship
between the physical aspects and those of the local characteristics, are proposed to be put forth as contributions by this thesis.

Subsurface radioactive gas transport and release studies using the UTEX modelLowrey, Justin David 15 October 2013 (has links)
Underground nuclear explosions (UNEs) produce anthropogenic isotopes that provide the only definitive means by which to determine whether a nuclear explosion has taken place. Verification of a suspected test under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) includes both on-site and atmospheric sampling of specific noble gas radioisotopes for analysis of origin. It is well-established that the processes of subsurface transport can affect the rate at which such gases will reach the surface. However, the relative abundance of anthropogenic isotopes reaching the surface following transport is currently assumed to rely solely on their direct fission yield, decay rate, and their production from precursor decay, making no account for the influence of transport processes on isotopic ratios. The Underground Transport of Environmental Xenon (UTEX) model has been developed to examine the possible effects of subsurface transport on radioxenon isotopic ratios as well as to consider a number of on-site inspection-related applications. In this work, background on the UTEX model's development, evolution and vetting is presented. This is followed by the characterization and analysis of a number of applications of the model for consideration of CTBT-relevant scenarios. Specifically, the UTEX model's capability to analyze CTBT on-site inspection concept of operations is demonstrated. This is accomplished through an examination of generalized UNE source terms, geological stratigraphy, UNE impact on local geology, natural soil-gas radionuclide backgrounds, atmospheric infiltration, and sampling methodology. It is shown that the processes driving noble gas transport through geological media can significantly skew the ratios of key radioxenon isotopes that are used to help verify whether or not a well-contained underground test has taken place. This result emphasizes the need for a broader understanding of radionuclide signatures used for CTBT verification purposes and the mechanisms that can alter them. / text

L’allégorie comme discours politique dans Underground d'Emir KusturicaBouchnak, Abdelhamid 06 1900 (has links)
Our research is in three parts. The first is a definition of the allegory in general,
in the visual arts and in film. The second part analyzes the allegorical
dimension of Kusturica film Underground. After having mentioned the main
characteristics of Kusturica’s cinema, I will examine the ways in which the
director has used the allegory in his film : officially, the allegory was presented
as a means to denounce the war in the the Balkans, but we will try to see if
there weren’t another reason of the director’s choice of this figure. In the third
part, we will discuss the debate that the film started and the political views of
the director. / Memoire creation

In France, in alternative or underground circles characterized bypostmodern fandoms such as geek and otaku cultures, a new form of practice emerged these years defined by the French word rôleplay. It is neither role playing game nor theatre, but a way to exchange with other roleplayers, wearing a costume, in a dedicated area. This work is the result of ethnography in those milieu, and aims to give an account of this practice as much as to analyze the issues of rôleplay. This polyphonic essay links questions as identity (individual or collective) and performativity, through, notably, the work of Deleuze, Agamben and Butler.
The splitted up form with several voices taking part recovers the carnivalschaos, central pattern in this analysis.

S-factor measurement of the 2H(α,γ)6Li reaction at energies relevant for Big-Bang nucleosynthesisAnders, Michael 23 April 2014 (has links) (PDF)
For about 20 years now, observations of 6Li in several old metal-poor stars inside the halo of our galaxy have been reported, which are largely independent of the stars’ metallicity, and which point to a possible primordial origin. The observations exceed the predictions of the Standard Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis model by a factor of 500. In the relevant energy range, no directly measured S-factors were available yet for the main production reaction 2H(α,γ)6Li, while different theoretical estimations have an uncertainty of up to two orders of magnitude. The very small cross section in the picobarn range has been measured with a deuterium gas target at the LUNA acceler- ator (Laboratory for Underground Nuclear Astrophysics), located deep underground inside Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso in Italy. A beam-induced, neutron-caused background in the γ-detector occurred which had to be analyzed carefully and sub- tracted in an appropriate way, to finally infer the weak signal of the reaction. For this purpose, a method to parameterize the Compton background has been developed. The results are a contribution to the discussion about the accuracy of the recent 6Li observations, and to the question if it is necessary to include new physics into the Standard Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis model.

Exprmntl. A History of the Knokke / Brussels International Experimental Film Festival (1949-1974)García Bardón, Xavier 01 December 2017 (has links)
EXPRMNTL was probably the most important event ever devoted to experimental cinema. Designed and organized by Jacques Ledoux and the Royal Belgian Film Archives, the festival of Knokke / Brussels, which only had five editions (1949, 1958, 1963, 1967, 1974) now enjoys a mythical status. This unique and unclassifiable initiative was more than just a film festival: a meeting point for avant-garde culture and contemporary thinking, an event placed under the sign of the unexpected, desire and protest, including that of the festival itself. In short: an event so consistent with its object that it was in itself an experience. This research traces the history of the five editions of the festival. It is based on the hitherto unexplored archives of the event, the reports published in the press at the time and many interviews with protagonists and witnesses.

Study of Production Drifts Stability and Assessment of Reinforcement Requirements at LKAB Konsuln Test-Mine Levels 436 and 486 Using Geologic Structures Data, and Modelling Software – Dips and Unwedge: a Part of dp1 Project (Mine Layout and Technology) of the Sustainable Underground Mining (Sum) ProjectOlufe, Oludare Joseph January 2021 (has links)
Study of Production Drifts Stability and Assessment of Reinforcement Requirements at LKAB Konsuln Test-Mine Levels 436 and 486 Using Geologic Structures Data, and Modelling Software - Dips and Unwedge: a Part of dp1 Project (Mine Layout and Technology) of the Sustainable Underground Mining (Sum) Project Oludare Joseph Olufe Global population has been on exponential increase over the past half century. The population explosion is driving massive urbanization and infrastructure developments across the globe, which result in huge demand for metals, especially steel. The trend is forecasted to continue to rise steeply in for the next two decades. This is putting enormous strain on metals mining, especially because new surface economic deposits are rare to come by. Therefore, mining is steadily going deeper in many of the mining destinations across the world. Mining at great depths present unique challenges, particularly regarding stability of excavations at depths. Rock falls, rock burst, excavation collapse are common occurrences associated with deep mining. In regions with high seismicity potentials the frequency and consequences could be very high. Over the past decade ground instability has become a significant challenge confronting mining at LKAB deep mines. There had been incidents that resulted in long term closure of sections of the mines, with resultant adverse economic impacts. More undesirable is loss of live of personnel. The study was conducted at the Konsuln test mine levels 436 and 486, aimed to investigate the impacts of geologic structures on excavations instability at depths, at the Kiruna iron ore mines, on one hand. And on the other hand, evaluate the influence of geologic structures on ground reinforcements at the mine. Structural data were collected and analysed using Dips program to define orientation of major structures. The results were used for wedge analysis and excavations stability modelling using Unwedge program. Important rock mechanical parameters were defined based on data provided, and others based on literatures. A design factor of safety of 1.5 was used. Results from the study established that structures have significant impact on excavations instability at the Konsuln mine. 100% of the production drifts studied has minimum of four wedges formed in its perimeters. Out of this approximately 37% has factor of safety lower than 1.5. Evaluation of reinforcements (shotcrete and rock bolts) implemented in the mine found that approximately 15% of the total wedges formed in the production drifts has factor of safety less that 1.5 after both shotcrete and rock bolt reinforcements had been implement. Also, approximately 5% of the total wedges has apex height longer the rock bolt length. It was therefore concluded that structurally induced instability is a major contributor to excavations instability at the Kiruna mine. The study approach presented a new methodology to understand and provide robust solution to ground instability problem at the mine.
