Rome, l'inscription des violences politiques dans la ville au cours des années de plomb : (1966-1982) / Rome, the inscription of the political violence in the city during the years of lead : (1966-1982)

Guzzo, Domenico 06 June 2017 (has links)
Following the new historiographical path focused on the urban dimension of the armed struggle, this research analyses the milieus and the forms of the political extremism in Rome after ‘68. By an interdisciplinary approach – which integrates the contribution of philosophy, of urban studies, of sociology, of urban geography, of political sciences – this study rebuilt the relation between urban territory and the implementation of a subversive violence, often lethal and terrorist, in the context of the national modernization activated by the “economic boom” (1958-1963) and of the “cold war” dynamics. A special attention is payed to the apprehension of the ideological and cultural evolutions - grown inside the “urban crisis” which affects the critical development of Rome in the post-war period – that transformed the biggest Italian metropolis in a perfect ecosystem for this extreme conflict, far beyond the only effects of the geopolitical  (European crisis of the Atlanticism) and socio-economic factors  (explosion of the social struggles claiming the fruition of goods and services created by for consumerist modernity). This study went back to the basic divisions of the structure, the society and the environment of Rome: the fundamental cleavages, appeared at the beginning of the republican time (1946), over which, after the “economic boom”, a process of radicalization (due to the growing of the social struggles in the fields of the local community, work, school and the University, generated by a brutal and unbalanced modernization of the town) is established. Our research, so showed that the various “experiments of antagonism” matured within this vast social protest, were used finally as incubators where part of the roman extremist militancy, resulting from the end of ’68 mobilization, was initiated with various subversive practices (in particular, the repertoires of the mass illegality and of the clandestine guerrilla). Considering of all these levels and these dimensions highlighted the characteristics of the political violence deployed in Rome after ’68, while allotting the right proportion to the “weight” of the capital of Italy in the national deployment of the “strategy of the tension” (1969-1974) and the “years of lead” (1975-1982). This research thus strives to reconstruct a comprehensive historical framework, putting of diachronic connection the facts and the dynamic of the metropolis (social economic, cultural, ideological, political and urban factors) with the State system based in Rome – characterized by the pressures of the “iron curtain”, the heavy after-effects of the fascist dictatorship and the civil war (1943-1945), the governmental frailty and the lack of national cohesion – along the years of modernization and of the entry in the age of abundance for Italy.

K analýze vojenského významu olomoucké pevnosti v období válek o rakouské dědictví a sedmileté války / Military Importance Analysis of the Olomouc fortress in the War of the Austrian Succession and the Seven Years' War

Borovský, Jiří January 2015 (has links)
Military Importance Analysis of the Olomouc fortress in the War of the Austrian Succession and the Seven Years' War Jiří Borovský Abstract The thesis focuses on a role played by the city of Olomouc during the War of Austrian Succession (1740-1748) and the Seven Years' War (1756-1763). Between 1741-1742, almost all Moravian territory became an operational space for armies of the Prussian king Friedrich II. The Prussians took the city of Olomouc, too, and made it their most important military and logistic base within the occupied territories. As soon as the War of Austrian Succession was over, the fortress of Olomouc was rebuilt fundamentally: It took a mere decade of an immense building activity and Olomouc became the most modern bastion fortification in the whole Danubian Monarchy. Shortly after the works had been finished in 1758, the Prussians invaded Moravia again in order to seize the city again. The author analyses both Prussian campaigns to Moravia. The thesis mainly deals with the conditions that involved both Austrian and Prussian parties at the beginning of the war. It draws comparison between both armies involved, and between the actual results of the wars, too. In particular, the author focuses on the comparison of the role of the fortress during the two conflicts as well as on the differences...

In its first part is given a brief overview of the history of post-Industrial Revolution urbanism, identifying the main urban typologies originating during this time and focusing especially on the Garden City typology from its English origin to its worldwide diffusion. From here, the study delves in the appropriation of this typology by brazilian designers (architects and engineers), articulated with economic, political, social and cultural analysis of this country in the first decades of the XXth Century. The third part analyses the universe of professional responsible for the creation of the city plan of Águas de São Pedro, urban engineer Jorge de Macedo Vieira, identifying his main influences and his productive evolution. Also, others professionals involved with this project are included. Finally, in the fourth part is done a comprehensive study of the adopted plan for the Watering town, along with its due empirical analysis, electing, from there, the elements that relate it to the Garden-City typology. This research therefore adds itself to others that study the use of the Garden-City urban typology in Brazil, contributing in this manner to extend knowledge about a school that participated actively in the history of brazilian urbanism.

La Havane, 1878/1921 / Reinventing everyday life. Daily social practices and urban space. Havana, 1878/1921

Gracia, Frédéric 09 January 2016 (has links)
By analysing the interactions between daily social practices and urban space in Havana between 1878 and 1921, this thesis demonstrates how new ways of moving through the city emerged and spread both socially and racially, thus contributing to reinventing everyday life, that is to say reorganising its inhabitants' daily experience of the city and updating the way they socialised. The development of public transport in Havana and the working class's growing use of it began between 1878 and 1895 and boomed after 1898, which fostered a renewal of daily social practices of urban space and allowed the people of Havana to enter the age of mass urban transport. This precocious, swift, therefore atypical process was also remarkable because of its repercussions on two of the structuring forms of convivance. Already before the Independence, government's treatment of social outcasts started to dislocate, precisely at a time when protest against colonial order was spreading and social control was becoming a crucial issue for the authorities. Over the period under study in this thesis, the reinvention of daily social practices led to redefining the residential geography of Havana: it made possible a wider diffusion of the working class throughout the city, which hampered and challenged the republican capital's project of the elite. By “emptying out history's pockets” and studying numerous unpublished or little valued archives, this thesis, which involved constituting a georeferenced database and a body of cartographic material, offers a different insight into one of the turning points in the history of Havana and Cuba through an alternative analysis of the conventional chronology and a complexification of historical framework.

De Lourenço Marques à Maputo : genèse et formation d'une ville / From Lourenço Marques to Maputo : genesis and shaping of a town

Vales, Teodoro Cândido 17 June 2014 (has links)
This thesis is based on a historical approach. It addresses the process whereby the capital city of Mozambique was shaped and transformed, and analyses the links that appeared during the 19th and 20th centuries between economic change, institutional transformations and the evolution of urban morphology. The location of Lourenço Marques is peripheral in Mozambique. The city is close to the Union of South Africa, and was originally a trading outpost. It later became a feitoria, small town, then a coastal city. The creation of road and, later, of rail networks with the Transvaal in the 19th century meant that Lourenço Marques became the maritime gateway for South African mining products, which explains the city's economic development. During the period in which the city was shaped, its extensions were managed through plans drawn up by engineers and army officials, and, later, by architects who came from Lisbon. It is at this point in time that the city became the capital of the Province of Mozambique. Like many other colonial cities, Lourenço Marques was subject to a wide range of planning experiments (street patterns, subdivisions, zoning) designed in various European countries, including Portugal. During the entire colonial period, Portuguese engineers and architects somehow managed to contain the growth of this European town, by restricting African people's access to it. The fact that a quarter was created near the city centre for the “indigenous population” reflects the fact that colonizers wanted racial separation. When Mozambique became independent in 1975, the Portuguese exodus took place and the city was opened up to African people. This sudden decision generated mass immigration from the countryside and initiated the rapid demographic growth of Lourenço Marques, whose name then became Maputo. The authorities of Mozambique came up with many town planning documents (which were never approved), and found it increasingly difficult to manage the development process – many informal quarters appeared (subdivisions and shanty towns) – and to generate economic activities that would give permanent jobs to the new population.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Gisele.pdf: 3200209 bytes, checksum: 97713e77f4623fdd4605278ee0dd1e09 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-11-29 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This thesis aims at the analysis of the urban transformations and the revitalization of spaces in Florianopolis, from the case of urban intervention performed in the construction of the Beira- Mar Continental avenue, in the Estreito neighborhood, and its project was developed in the late 1960s and the works started in 2004. From testimonies of residents of the neighborhood, gathered by the Oral History methodology, reports published in newspapers, official documents, photographs and maps, the narrative comes to understanding the healing process and realize the sociability built in this space. In order to present the city as a tourism product, its administration attracts a large mass of population, with no control, however, over its growth and the impact on the infrastructure, resulting in a fragmented urban fabric. The process of gentrification that occurs through the construction of the avenue by the sea on the mainland, due to a series of discourses of revitalization of the area and real estate development, tourism and trade. Projects involving the creation of a port, new roads to the island as the metro area, and public-private investments generate a growing distortion of the reality and the needs of the communities living there. Expectations and possibilities that collide and clash daily in search of a desire to modernize or to remain as a residential corner of the neighborhood. These are issues addressed throughout the text from a town from below and also connected with the place where it operates / Esta dissertação tem como objetivo analisar as transformações urbanas e a revitalização de espaços em Florianópolis, a partir do caso da intervenção urbana realizada na construção da avenida Beira-Mar Continental, no bairro Estreito, tendo seu projeto sido elaborado no final da década de 1960 e as obras iniciadas em 2004.

As tramas e o poder: Jaboticabal 1895-1936 praça, igreja e uma outra história / Urban fabric and the power within: Jaboticabal 1895-1936 central square, church and yet another narrative

Valéria Eugênia Garcia 24 September 2008 (has links)
This dissertation deals with power relations materialization into public spaces. It investigates the changes in Jaboticabals urban landscape after the instatement of the Republican Regime (1889-1930), which gradually altered the focus of political actions from rural to urban environment. The rise of the urban way of living triggered transformations on the power structures with direct consequences for the city idea, as artifact and as locus for symbolic messages. This circumstance of pressing changes paradoxically permitted a number of resistances. On the local sphere it meant de installment of several disputes for the citys central locations, in regard of its property, management, use and meanings. The direct implications refer to the downtowns hierarchy of buildings, with emphasis on the square and church, along with their renovation processes. In this sense, the town council is the dissemination agent of national projects, and the central square, our study object, the instrument to deliver the necessary messages to configure this new order based on the ideology of constructing the brazilian nation. This discussion, however, is another facet of city government deals that in addition to the mentioned symbolic values must be understood in a situation of concrete demands for infrastructure inherent to an urban expansion condition. Also, the accession of capitalist places the region in the world production, consumption and labor division dynamics. The persistence of the agrarian base, focused on coffee plantation, provide the tools for the act of local authorities made up of supporters of the Republic and inevitably linked to coffee production. Finally, the local press that becomes the vehicle of various speeches, engendered in the materialization of urban grounds. To that end, we propose an analysis based on consistency between the speeches of legitimacy and space effectively built. To the extent that the speech must be faithful to the search context, we opt for primary sources use: laws, newspaper articles, minutes, letters and any material that expresses in a direct address the goals of the actors involved. As well as the use of photographic medium in order to understand the configuration of spaces and buildings, resource that enables the comparison image and data.

Sob o signo da cruz: Igreja, Estado e secularização (Campinas e Limeira 1774-1939) / Under the sign of the cross: Church, State and secularization (Campinas and Limeira 1774-1939)

Mateus Rosada 25 March 2010 (has links)
It deals with the relation between the Catholic Church and its consequences in the form and the dynamics of two cities in São Paulo State (Brazil): Campinas and Limeira. It tries to understand how the game of forces between these powers was and how this has moved throughout the time. For this, it analyzes a historical clipping between 1774 and 1939, enclosing the three political periods of Brazil: Colony, Empire and Republic, to have and overlook about the questions that involve the slow process of secularization in the country. It approaches the advance of the Enlightenment ideas and the urban lines of direction in the end of XVIII century and its consequences in the urban drawing of the cities that would appear. It investigates the model that granted lands for the Church to initiate a new population and how this land was being expropriated for the civil power. It analyzes, still, how new hygienic thoughts, the new technologies and the secularization way of thinking development of the individual had been increasing the apparatus of urban and profane equipment and diminishing the symbolic importance of the Catholic Church in the city space.
