Nascimento, Christiane Gleice Barbosa de Farias 23 February 2015 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2017-06-01T18:25:00Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 christiane_gleice_farias_nascimento.pdf: 540404 bytes, checksum: 30f40eb7b4802150fc54e5a07c7e608e (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-02-23 / This research has the multimodality in narratives of a blind child as an object of study, contributing to the understanding of which multimodal resources are used by this child to produce meaning in narrating fairy tales, for the child does not make use of the sight to represent and perceive some gestures. Thus, we base our study in a perspective that conceives language as multimodal as proposed by Kendon (1982), McNeill (2000), Cavalcante (2009), Ávila-Nóbrega; Cavalcante (2012), Fonte (2009, 2011a, 2011b, 2011c, 2012) and Fonte et al (2014) comprehending that gesture and speech are an integrated system of meaning. Based on this perspective, our general aim is to analyze the multimodal resources used by a blind child in the recount of fairy tales and as our specific aims to verify the roles of such multimodal resources that the blind child makes use of in retelling the tales, and also to identify and describe the speech, prosody and gestures during the narration of the tales. For this, we carried out an observational, qualitative and case of study research, with a nine-year-old blind child, who is blind from birth but does not present pathologies associated to his/her blindness. The child goes to Centro de Apoio pedagógico à Pessoa Visual (CAP) and also to school, where he/she is at the first year of fundamental 1. For our methodology we chose three classic tales from Disney: Little Red Riding Hood, The three Little Pigs and Snow White. These three classic tales were presented to the child in audio description in the child s home. The narration and recount of the tales were recorded and transcribed with the software Eudico Linguistic Annotator (ELAN). Besides this, we selected as categories of analysis the elements in the multimodal envelope: verbal, prosodic and gestural proposed by Ávila-Nóbrega (2010) and Fonte (2011). Results show that while recounting the tales the blind child took over different roles, sometimes the narrator, sometimes the character. These narratives were mediated by the multimodality of language, characterized by prosodic variations such as: strong and weak intensity, duration, pauses, speech speed. Furthermore, the child used verbal productions, that is, the speech, contemplating not only the narrative structure but also varied gestures including body gesticulations characterized by head movements, shoulders, hands and legs that contributed to the construction of meaning in the recount of the tales.

Research subjects were two students with visual impairment in different school years and age group attending multifunctional resource room (SRM) of the State Padre Nunes and Municipal Student William Tavares de Oliveira schools. Points out - that the number of target research students, although small, is full of students with visual disabilities attended in 2014 by multi-functional resources existing in the official school system of the municipality of Coxim - MS (municipality pole of the northern region DM). In addition to students, the research subjects were also the teachers of the respective multi-functional resources they attend and the teachers who attended the in mainstream education. To achieve the goal, it was launched hand of a qualitative research approach, which initially was referred to the theoretical framework that discusses the topic and was later carried out the field study procedure by means of collecting instruments such as analysis documents, observations and interviews. The results found that the two educational institutions surveyed are still building their pedagogical practice regarding the use and appropriation of information and communication technologies when used in multifunctional resource room as assistive technology. And this path is marked by questions, doubts and concerns, bringing new challenges and changing perspectives in understanding the processes of teaching and learning, mediated by the use of communication and information technologies specifically to assistive technology, despite these doubts and uncertainties it contributed more significantly the teaching and learning of students with visual impairment process. However it is of fundamental importance to teacher training for the appropriation of information and communication technologies especially in relation to work with assistive technology in educational environments so that it develops skills and abilities that allow building pedagogical practices in congruence with these technologies.

Diversité spatiale, temporelle et fréquentielle pour la mesure précise de distance et d'angle d'arrivée en ultra large bande / Space, time and frequency diversity for accurate range and angle of arrival measurement in UWB

Vo, Tien Tu 13 June 2019 (has links)
Detection and ranging with electromagnetic waves (Radar) are used in a number of domains such as aeronautics, automobile or even medecin. In this thesis, we are interested particularly on Radar in the wellness domain for widely use: sleep pattern tracking sensors, smart glasses or white cane with obstacles detection for visually impaired people. The problem, which so far has not been discussed, is to add necessary functionalities as follow to the exciting solution to resolve theses applications: the thoracic and abdominal displacement tracking with a millimetric resolution; and the measurements of arrival direction of backscattered signals from obstacles in front of visually impaired individuals. The technological starting point is the one of Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology, which offers a resolution of approximate one centimeter in the distance measurement within the range of few meters and in the discrimination of backscattered signals from multiple obstacles. To meet these criterias, the research focuses on the backscattering propagation channel in particularly from the human body. It also analyses the techniques in signal processing, aiming to estimate the breathing rate in the backscattered signal of human body, and to estimate the arrival direction to an antenna array to nearly one degree. Finally, it investigates the systematic architecture, especially in the receiver associated with the antenna array, in order to withstand the angular measurement without notably increasing the receiver complexity and consumption.

Benutting van Gestaltspelterapie met visueel gestremde kinders

Johnsen, Elouise 02 1900 (has links)
The researcher found little information in literature reviewed about how Gestalt Play Therapy is being used in the treatment of visually impaired children. The aim of the study was to expand knowledge regarding this issue. A basic qualitative research study of an exploratory and descriptive nature was undertaken to describe how this therapy may be used in the treatment of such children. A representative sample was drawn from the population, consisting of gestalt play therapists who previously provided assistance to these children, using a purposive non-probability method. Data collection took place through the execution of semi-structured telephone interviews. Collected data was analysed using the Thematic Content Analysis to search for related themes (in line with the objectives of the study) in transcribed interviews. The general conclusion drawn from the empirical data was that gestalt play therapy can be used to good effect in the treatment of visually impaired children. / Social Work / M.Diac. Fashion Beyond Sight : Perceptions of fashion and dress by visually impaired women in Finland

Kukkonen, Mikko January 2021 (has links)
Understanding fashion and dress is frequently dictated by the sense of sight and the social fact of visibility. This thesis aims to explore the phenomenon of non-visual fashion and dress with a particular focus on visually impaired people and their bodies as a site of knowledge production. While previous studies of the relationship between body and dress have examined how the sighted body is fashioned, the present small-scale and socio-sensorial study attempts to fathom how fashion and dress become perceivable in haptic, audial, and olfactory terms. This thesis engages thoughtfully with the visually impaired and their feelings related to the present-day field of fashion and dress, building on a Bourdieusan framework of habitus and embodiment applied to fashion studies. Employing qualitative interviews conducted among visually impaired women in Finland, this thesis gives voice to the people meagrely represented in the literature on fashion and dress. Furthermore, while acknowledging the empirically grounded non-visual dimension, this thesis adheres to previous contributions of revaluing the plurality of epistemologies and discourses vis-à-vis fashion, dress, and the body.

Jak vypadá neviditelné město / What does an invisible city look like

Gavriněvová, Kristýna January 2012 (has links)
The subject of this thesis entitled What does an invisible city look like is the perception of a city and the way it is represented. The work is based on urban semiotics that sees urban environment as a particular system of communication. The methods of sensory urbanism and rhythm analysis are employed as well. The author asks whether the cities could be represented by other than visual symbols as it is usually the case for the products of tourism industry (guidebooks, souvenirs, etc.). Usually, the symbol of a particular city is formed by the image of its skyline. In Prague, this is the skyline of the Prague Castle, in Paris, it is the Eiffel tower, in New York, it is the Statue of Liberty, etc. But every city has definitely many other qualities. What are they? To find the answer, the author asks for help the visually impaired people. These people can tell easily what are the non-visual qualities of the urban space as they experience them necessarily in their everyday life and use them for better orientation. The author interviewed the visually impaired people and she also observed the way they read the city in real. The practical part of the thesis focuses on the Prague city centre.
